Roofing, Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, General Remodeling,

About us

M&M Construction Specialist has completed hundreds of projects successfully and to our clients' delight. We will do no less for you as your general contractor. Northern New Jersey is an extremely competitive market for home remodeling and construction, but we are confident you will find us to be the greatest value and exhibit the highest caliber workmanship (regardless of whether you are looking to renovate your kitchen or a gut rehab). Furthermore, you will never have to deal with a salesperson (we don't employ any) and we will always offer level, competent, and professional advice. All the principals involved with your project, from the company's president on down, are available to receive your call or e-mail. We believe that open, on-going and unhindered communication is pivotal to a successful project and a happy client. Predictability of outcome: Most contractors and builders vying for your project and worth of it would assign a superintendent to supervise, manage, and execute the actual work. Your experience with such a contractor and the actual results you get will vary based on the competencies of the 'super' now in charge (a mostly wild card entity). This uncertainty and variability is eliminated in your relationship with us. Your construction plans and project will be personally supervised and managed, from conception, to design and to completion by our experienced project managers. This is the case with every project we agree to undertake as your residential builder. We are confident that our work is the best of any New Jersey home builder. We offer double the industry standard warranty on all of the work we do and products we provide.

After contacting M&M, they sent out a project manager fairly quickly to take a look at my roof. He made me feel at ease and didn?t try to pressure me into doing more than I wanted. I was also pleasantly surprised at how quickly they were able to provide me with an estimate. After I signed the contract, work began about a week later. The workmen were polite and cleaned up at the end of each day which I appreciated. Overall, I was very happy with M&M. They were communicative and efficient. Plus, the roof and gutters look great and are holding up just fine.
Description of Work: M&M replaced my 50-year-old roof. They also replaced my gutters and downspouts.

I have to say the whole experience was effortless. My husband and I needed to update the exterior of our home. We also wanted to improve our homes energy efficiency. Our friend recommended them to us and we looked at their website. www.mmbuilds.com . They had a great deal of before and after pictures and a lot .of great reviews. So we decided to have them out to our home for an estimate. The project manager arrived on time in a uniform. His vehicle was newer and he was clean cut which my husband liked because he was in the army when he was younger. The windows took about three weeks to come in and M&M Construction Specialist pulled permits during that time, I guess for the siding and the roof. The day after the windows came in they scheduled the work to begin. The roof was done first and then the windows and siding. We chose insulated siding and energy star windows. We also picked Gaf roofing. They gave us a lifetime warranty 50 years on our roof and also a lifetime warranty on our siding! We really liked our project manager and that was the biggest plus for this company because they only have project managers NOT salesmen. The same guy who sold us our home improvements came and ran all the work. He was there from beginning to end. The house looks beautiful!! The communication throughout the project was seamless. The craftsmanship was excellent and my husband is picky! They did a great job cleaning up and making sure we were happy. We would recommend them to anyone looking to do a home improvement project.

I am always nervous starting a large project with my home, but the whole process went smoothly with M&M. I found their website online and liked all of their before and after pictures and information. One day I decided to take the plunge and give them a call. The office girl was able to schedule someone to come out on a day that worked for me. I also liked that the initial appointment was free! The guy who came out was very personable and asked me lots of questions about what I wanted for my bathroom. He explained exactly how the process works and made me feel pretty confident. I decided to go with them over the other guys I had come out because I appreciate good communication, especially when I'm embarking on a big project. The price was right and I signed up with them and we scheduled the work date. The project manager helped me pick out paint colors, tiles, and the very important vanity. Leading up to the actual work date, I was happy with the communication from the office. I always felt informed and like they were being honest. When the crew arrived to start the work they weren't obnoxious and did the work in a fairly clean manner. Everything was completed in the timeframe the project manager gave me and at the end I was SO pleased with the bathroom. My master bath had needed an upgrade for so long and I kept pushing it off. It looks so much better and makes me feel like I am in a fancier home! So overall, I would recommend M&M Construction Specialist. The price is right, they communicate with you and the end result is high-quality.
Description of Work: M&M Construction remodeled my master bathroom - they took out the old shower and tiles, removed water damaged wallpaper, gave me a new vanity, and installed an exhaust fan which it didn't have before.

The construction experience was horrible to say the least. Currently there isn't one single thing that was done by Mand M that we aren't repairing, from the plumbing, to the windows, so the doors, paint, sheet rocking EVERYTHING! When construction started they moved fast, they cleared debris quickly and framed out quickly as well. After framing was done work slowed down completely. We would go to the site weekend after weekend and nothing was done. When I talk to Mark and his assistant they would tell me that they needed more money, regardless of the fact that the contract stated that once the house was at 50% then they would get more money, and the house wasn't at 50% yet, but regardless of what was going on I contacted my mortgage company who was holding our insurance money to try to get them to release more money so that construction could move. We then get a and quot;project managerand quot; assigned, Vince, who is possibly the WORSE project manager in the world. The electrical was put in and so was the HVAC unit, which by the way was installed so badly that my first floor doesn't heat AT ALL, meanwhile we are burning up on the second floor. Mand M wasn't looking out for our best interest in the least, they were stuck with this job that was a lot more than they could chew and my family and I were the only ones suffering. Months went by arguments back and forth and s***** work being done every single time. It is to the point that I know for a fact that they didn't prime our walls!! they just painted over the sheetrock and now the paint is peeling off and it wipes away when we clean the walls. After months of no work being done, only a few things here an there we asked that our and quot;project managerand quot; Vince, not step foot in our home again because he was unresponsive, incompetent and just plain rude to us. The work they did was so bad that when the sheetrock was put up they left the insulation from the window visible and NO ONE thought to correct it, but that was just one thing of a million things that were done incorrectly that they had to keep bringing worker’s back to repair because there was no one at my house supervising them and all this did was delay our move in and cost us money. I’ve spoken to several of the subcontractors used by Mand M and 3 of them have told me that they haven’t been paid by Mand M, to date. I’ve cleared it up with these subcontractors that Mand M was pain in full by us so there is no reason they shouldn’t be paid. Bottom Line: DON’T USE Mand M…I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy. No one deserves to have to deal with the crap work that they provide. I could literally go on for days with complaints about Mand M it was 11 months of h*** working with them.
Description of Work: Unfortunately my home was in a fire in 2012 and we met Mark at our home. So my entire home needed to be gutted and rebuilt.

This homeowner has stated many incorrect facts which we will correct regarding this review. Yes, the homeowner suffered a fire prior to moving in because they resealed the floors in their house and did not leave a window open. The insurance monies covered their loss. The original contract signed with M&M Construction Specialist totaled $234,547.16 and was 30 pages long. It detailed every aspect of the project, what was to be done, and with what materials. In addition to M&M Construction Specialist making their home whole again, we also constructed an addition at the rear of the home, two dormers in the front, and included many “extras” for the monies that the insurance company gave them. Homeowners must understand that we as a company are not a bank and cannot finance the project. In order to keep the project moving along, we need money to purchase materials and to pay employees. The way the insurance company released funds and with the amount of work needed (above and beyond what the original plan of the house called for), money was very tight on this project. One such example was the windows. The plans called for Anderson windows to be used, but we offered them a different brand which was more affordable. In exchange for the other window brand, the money for the windows was used toward other aspects of the project not covered by insurance. They looked at the literature, had time to research the product, and authorized it. But regardless, no communication about the windows was ever sent to M&M Construction Specialist. The homeowners also added a number of change orders to the project which were not part of the original contract or covered by insurance: A French drain and sump pump, central heat/air conditioning throughout the home, raising the floor height in the rear of the home to match the existing floor level, a larger front door opening (which required modifications to the framing), a much larger front door than insurance paid for, five additional windows (3 in basement and 2 in attic) which were not specified to be replaced by insurance, running coax cables to the living room, dining room, each of the 2nd floor bedrooms, and rec room in the basement, installing an additional electrical outlet in the living room for their flat screen TV, running a water line from the basement to their ice maker on the refrigerator (not previously existing), and installing 4 high-hats in the living room (deviating from the original plan). As part of the original contract, a bathroom was also installed in the basement where it did not previously exist. Lastly, the homeowners purchased a side and rear entrance door which was more expensive than what the insurance company gave them. There was also a very long list of credits and overruns to compensate for what they did not do versus what they did do. In the end, there were cost overruns of $775 because of finishes that were requested that were more expensive than what was allotted. The entire project utilized licensed electricians and plumbers and like any project of this size, permits and inspections were required. All inspections were passed. Also, the walls were primed – we have all the documentation showing that primer was purchased. Without the primer, the paint would have not gone on well. Additionally, the homeowners often stopped by the house to see the progress. If there were issues with some of these items, why were they not brought up at that time? Additionally, the homeowner did contact us twice after the project was completed but never mentioned any of these alleged problems. Each time they spoke to the office, they were very pleasant and did not communicate displeasure. So why write such negative things on here without contacting M&M Construction Specialist first? Your guess is as good as mine. The project was not more than we could chew – our company has built homes from the ground up for many clients. We are not sure why this client is so unhappy, especially a year after the project was completed. Plus, they never communicated any of these frustrations to us. And despite the commentary that the project manager was “unresponsive,” it is quite peculiar that the homeowner graded M&M Construction Specialist a “B” for responsiveness. If we didn’t finish the project to their satisfaction, why were we paid in full? We invite everyone to see photos from their project and determine for themselves whether or not it was a quality job: [Hyperlink Removed]

The process went very smoothly. My wife and I had a few contractors come out but Mand M Construction Specialist was better prepared and more knowledgeable than the others. They brought all kinds of brochures and samples so we knew exactly what we were getting. Their demeanor was great and they explained the entire process to us. They alerted me about material and dumpster delivery and let me know when their crew would be on-site. They were punctual and efficient from start to finish. I was worried they would leave a mess - as my neighbor had his roof done not too long ago and materials were flying all around with the wind. But at the end of each day they cleaned up all the debris and placed it in the dumpster. I felt comfortable having them work on my roof and the next time I'm in need of home repairs I will definitely give them a call.
Description of Work: M&M Construction Specialist installed a new roof on my home. The old roof had been on for about twenty years or so and showing signs of age.

Buyer BEWARE!!! This was the worst experience I have ever had with any contractor from the initial communication with the sales person, to the owner, and most all the people in between. First, Nick, the sales guy came to our home, literally shaking, sweating, and speaking faster than I could understand, to follow up on a previous call he made with us. It was the beginning of a new month and he said he would cut us an amazing deal on the work we wanted done if we would back date the check a few days so he can make his quota and win a steak dinner. Ok, so I thought, this is our lucky day! (Sucker) After heavy negotiation and Nick calling his boss twice, we settled on a price of $2200 for cleaning our roof of algae, installing an attic fan I had already bought, a new garage door and aluminum frame, and new gutters with leaf guards. A great price no doubt! (Sucker) A contract was drafted that was detailed and specific to what needed to be done including the start and conclusion date. The start date came and went by about 4 days so I called the office who said they would send someone out the next day. The owner, Marc, came to my house and looked at the work that they said they would do and told me that they would not honor the contract and would not do any of the work the sales manager agreed to. After pulling out the contract, mentioning that they already took $400 from us, and threatening legal action, Marc said in a very pissy voice that they will do their best to fit us in. This was after he made four or five very hostile phone calls and blatantly stating that Nick was getting fired. A couple days later a crew came by with scrub brushes to do the roof. Mannie, the project manager, said this was the first phase of their filling the contract and asked for $1000 in addition to the $400 we already gave Nick. To my knowledge the work they did on the roof is fine, but I will not know for sure until next summer to see if the algae returns. The one issue, which is relatively minor, is that the shingles do not match where they installed the attic fan and also by some skylights we have. Again they disappeared for about a week before I had to call to get someone over again. After a couple more days some people and Mannie showed up to begin working on my garage door. They tore apart some of the frame which was rotted by termites. They left some of the rotted frame and nailed new wood to the old rotting wood and told my wife that they would be back the next day to finish the job. I immediately called them from my office and left a message stating that I did not want them to put aluminum on the wood that was nailed to the rotting wood. While I was at work Mannie came by the house with the owner, Marc, and insisted to my wife in a very disrespectful way that there was nothing wrong with the wood even though any fool could see clearly that it was rotting from termites, weather, etc. I actually took a pocket knife to it and pulled it apart later on when I got them back to investigate. Another week went by with the exposed wood and garage door sealed without a handle so we could not get in. I called and left messages 2 days in a row. One day, without notice, someone and a partner came over and installed gutters and leaf guards. The leaf guards were installed completely wrong (see photos) and I had to get on the ladder to fix them all over the house. They also damaged some of our aluminum siding and roof shingles while installing the new gutters which I had to repair as well. Again, another week went by with calls to their office trying to get into my garage and get the frame fixed. A new guy finally showed up to install the frame and door tracks because the previous tracks they installed did not fit properly either (photos). He looked at the frame and said he would not touch the tracks until the frame could be fixed even though he was there to fix the frame???? He left saying that he would call Mannie and return with the proper tools later in the day with Mannie. Two days went by and out of the blue two new guys showed up and began ripping the wooden frame apart. The wood happened to be connected to my brick exterior which was also torn apart leaving a 1.5 foot by 3 foot hole on the side of my garage. This all happened while I was away on business and they told my wife everything would be fine and not to worry about the damage. When I got back to town I got a new guy to come over who said he was making an inspection and was going to repair the hole in my house. He left after taking a look and said he would be back later that day. About 3 days later when I was away from the house some of the M&M crew came over and covered up the hole in my house with aluminum sheets. The bricks were never repaired and it is just a matter of time until the whole side of the garage collapses. It is now November and M&M has walked off the job leaving a hole in my house and an incomplete frame around my garage (see photos) door that I will need to fix myself once I can find the time and someone who can cut an 8 foot piece of aluminum for me. In the end, this company lied to us, tried to cancel a contract, was unprofessional, damaged my home, walked off the job, improperly installed a simple item (gutter guards), had unethical and deceptive sales people, entered my property without permission, was disgustingly sloppy in their work, and used intimidation techniques on my wife vs. when speaking to myself. I hope this helps prevent someone else from making the same mistake I did. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau which means absolutely nothing in my opinion, but it can trick people into thinking they are legitimate, honorable, and trustworthy. At this point, I worry that they will do more damage to my house if they were to come anywhere near it. The good news is that there is an $800 balance I was to pay upon completion of the job, but I'll be putting that toward the masonry repair since the work was never completed. Also, they did call once to do an exit interview/survey on how they did. Considering how furious I am, I thought this would be a better forum where I may gather thoughts, not be interupted, and write without being disputed. Buyer Beware!!!!!!!

We signed a contract with them in July. It was too hot for masonry work at the time so we told them to start in September. They showed up in September and realized they did not have a permit so they all left. They have never shown up. I contacted them and they said they underbid the job and it was going to cost more so they were not going to do the job. They said they would give me my money back and I have never heard back from them. I have called several times and have gotten no response.
