Our hot water heater had gradually been becoming less efficient so that we were frequently running out of hot water. When company arrived for a week, it became even more noticeable so we called Neil Slattery, who has been our plumber for 15+ years. Neil checked it out the next morning, ordered a part that had to be shipped special delivery, and had it ready to be installed the next day. In August, just prior to having to leave the house on a Friday evening for an event over an hour away, we noticed water on the floor outside a bathroom. As we traced it back, it appeared to be coming out of the wall and we feared we had a leak or break that was going to cause significant problems. We called Neil and, even though it was past normal hours, he quickly came to evaluate the issue. Fortunately, it was a minor problem and the water was just coincidentally running along the side of the wall. He had it fixed within 5 minutes. We were not even late for our event and had peace of mind that our house wasn't about to be flooded.

Once I called and explained the problem they had someone at my house within 3 hours. There was a $69.00 non-refundable service call/estimate charge just for coming to the house which, my understanding was, that it would be waived if we had the work done by them. This was not the case as they added $69.00 service fee to the bill. They charged $117.00 for the work and $59.00 for the materials, and there was 17.15 tax. Total was $262.15. He was probably only here for 45 minutes and part of that time was discussing what he would actually do. Pros: I appreciate their quick response and the quality of the work was very good. Con: I think the price I was charged for the job was high considering and how quickly he was able to get it done and the cost of a few feet of exhaust pipe and fittings.

He used a contractor for the bathroom remodel who had no idea what he was doing. All the work done by this initial contractor had to be torn out and re-done. The person was clearly a handy-man, not a carpenter. The new contractor was better--but left the wainscoting panels out in the rain and then installed and painted them while still damp (and they could have been ordered already white). They smelled for months. The sub floor under the bathroom was replaced, but the remaining floor under a bedroom closet was left, with semi rotted and moldy beams. This was never reported to me or even mentioned as an option (I realize I would have paid extra) and I subsequently had to have these replaced at enormous cost and inconvenience--also smelled. I waited for two weeks for Neil to install my shower door--the door was on my sun porch this whole time to which Neil had access-- (this was after the whole debacle above, which took over two months) and I finally had to call yet another carpenter to get the shower door hung (which I deducted from Neil's final bill). He has a person who answers his office phone and insists on saying "How can I make you smile today" every single time she answers. This should be enough to turn anyone off. The HVAC thermostat is currently broken and I will have to pay to have this replaced (has been installed for only six months). In short, this plumber is a disaster for any large jobs. He doesn't even fix leaks very well.

Every employee is clean and courteous. They put slips on over their shoes to not dirty the floors and carpets.
