Description of Work: I asked for a quote for chimney service. I provided them with a detailed inspection of the chimney that I had done as part of a pre-purchase home inspection by a certified chimney inspection company. They said they would charge $99 to come out to prepare an estimate of what they would charge to do the service, only refundable if we book service with them (no other chimney company I have dealt with expects a customer to pay them to develop a quote for service) and they were booking jobs 3 months out.

Description of Work: I reached out to schedule in early August, was told no one could give me an estimate until Aug 19th. After that date, never heard from anyone. I reached out through email, was sent a note which I did not understand. I called their office numerous times, with no answer during business hours. Finally, on Aug 28th, heard from owner, was told that I need to work with a stucco mason.

Description of Work: I have used Ryan and Son Chimneys twice this season, and both times, they were very professional, courteous, and kept the work area and house clean. I had work done to my wood stove, and both times, the timing of the appointment and the duration of the service call were reasonable and accurate. I have no complaints whatsoever with the quality of work. My singular issue was with my ability to schedule the service call. We rescheduled twice due to weather, and it took quite a while to finally nail down a date that worked for both myself and the company. As a customer, of course, it's always ideal if the services could be done on my time, but I understand this is not always the case. Nonetheless, the company made good faith effort and in the end, I would much prefer to use a quality business that I have to wait a bit for. Thank you Ryan and Son for helping me with my chimney needs!

Description of Work: Ryan and Son resurfaced the chimney in the living room with Travertine and repaired the exterior chimney to fix water damage and structural cracks. |For both jobs, they arrived promptly, and were very professional in the job site preparation, execution of the work and site cleanup. |For the interior work, they took care to protect the floors from scratches and, despite bad weather, were very careful to avoid tracking water and dirt into the house. |For the exterior work, they had to work around both a hot tub on the ground and a solar system installed on the roof. They removed 25 courses of brick and were able to very closely color match the new brick to the rest of the chimney. |Any questions that came up during the completion of both jobs were discussed and actions clarified before any action was taken. |Both jobs were completed as scheduled and on budget. Ryan and Son was the most expensive of the 3 bids I received for this work, about 10-12% higher than the other bids received. They were selected because they came across as "more professional" and were willing to work with me trading scheduling flexibility for cost.

I would consider them in future, even though there were a lot other factors, their service was impeccable and their prices were reasonable. I will definitely give them consideration, in the future.

 + -1 moreThe initial job was fine. However when they came to install the liner on my oil burner they had the wrong parts and said they would have to come back another day. I never heard from them again. they wouldn't even return my phone calls. I finally gave up on them.
Description of Work: They installed a stainless steel chimney liner on my woodstove. They also installed a cap on my oil burner. After they finished I asked them to install a liner on my oil burner.

The guy showed up on time, took his time inspecting the fireplace and told me that the fireplace is in a clean condition and do not need a service at this time. He also provided valuable info on how to take care of the fireplace. I asked how much he would charge for his trip, he said "nothing". I was impressed by his honesty and professionalism. Will definitely recommend him to friends and neighbours.

 + 1 moreI'm a professional building Inspector/Consultant & occasionally I have to recommend a chimney professional to do a more in depth evaluation of a chimney, repair work or just a simple cleaning. Having someone I know I can trust, to recommend to my clients is paramount. The industry is riddled with con men who prey on homeowners that don't have the means to know if what they are being told by a chimney contractor is accurate. I had Ryan & Sons recommended to me by another Home Inspector whose opinion I trust, that told me he had used him many times and found him to be "very conscientious & ethical". Well the term "ethical" being applied to a chimney contractor caught my attention so I gave his name to a client whose major home renovation I was consulting on. I had already inspected the home prior to close of sale & my inspection of the chimney & fireplace revealed they had some need for repair, but nothing catastrophic. I knew from past experience, if I had the wrong person come in to clean & inspect it, they would have a quote for a completely unnecessary re-lining job in their hands before they even got out of the truck, so I was happy to have found Ryan & Sons through a referral from a trusted source.When I refer someone to my clients, their performance reflects directly on me... Out of coincidence, I pulled up at the property for my normally scheduled inspection of the renovation contractors work in progress, just after Will Ryan had arrived to meet the homeowner to clean & inspect the chimney/fireplace to provide a quote for the repairs I had told her it needed. The house was bustling with several work crews, and other people & I wasn't wearing anything identifying me as someone who might have a good professional understanding of what he was doing. I didn't introduce myself but instead kept an eye on what he was doing from afar. At one point I poked in and asked a few well placed questions, giving the impression that I had no experience with what he was doing and he took the time to explain what was going on and why he was doing what he was. In the end, he did a solid inspection and his findings from the inspection & recommended course of repair was derived from solid facts, not embellished at all & consistent with a high level of craftsmanship. A professional job, delivered with integrity for a reasonable price. I still recommend him to my clients today and they have always been happy with his work. Glad to have found you.  + -1 moreThe person who came out from Homestead Chimney Inc Company told me that the chimney just had some surface crack. He told me that it will cost me more for him to do it and that I could do it myself so I did it. I thought that was very nice of him. He could have given me a quote and charged me a couple of hundred dollars for the work. However, he was honest enough to tell me that I could do it myself. He even gave me the name of the material that I could use to fix the crack. He was on time. He was responsive. I would definitely consider using him in the future for any work related to chimneys.
