I recently purchased a condo and needed to get significant work done before moving in. I needed someone who could manage the entire project for me, as I didn't have the time to deal with multiple contractors, due to my work schedule. After interviewing many contractors and remodeling specialists, I was immediately impressed with my first conversation with Joe Shoback, the owner of Hudson Home Improvement. Unlike so many other professionals I had spoken with (and dealt with on a home improvement project I had done on a house I owned), Joe's project management skills from his days working in Finance were apparent right away. His approach was methodical and thorough, as he assessed the work I needed done and prepared the project scope. He assured me that his methodology for scoping the project would prevent unnecessary price changes by completion, i.e. I could remain confident that I would pay what he quoted. And he was absolutely right. The work was completed exactly on time and on budget, give or take some $$, due to additional items I added to the scope as the project was underway. I really liked the software app he uses called Buildertrend, as it provided a forum for us to communicate about the project and I watched progress, as his team posted photos of their work. We had weekly checkin conference calls, which included his team. This was very helpful, as I could ask questions directly of the team (and vice versa) and touch base on any; issues that needed attention. Also, I was able to make payments online, which was hugely convenient. At the end of the project, Joe had a team do clean up, something I had not expereinced with contractors I worked with on previous projects. The condo was move in ready, after his team finished their work and cleaning.........amazing! I would highly recommend Joe and Hudson Home Improvement. He and his team are professional, efficient and will enable you to get on with your own work, knowing that he has everything under control. It was a stress-free expereince for me and an absolutely pleasure dealing with Joe, who is professional, calm and efficient. I have other remodeling projects slated for the future and have no doubt who I will be asking to handle!

I was extremely satisfied from start to finish. Joe was very honest, offered advice , as well as , pros and cons to my initial choices that helped me formulate the right choices for what I ultimately wanted. This was important because some of my initial thoughts would have not been practical and I would have not been happy with them in the end. He kept me informed of what to expect each day so I could work around properly.-It was only bathroom in apartment so that was very important. I felt Joe and his team all went over and above. Team was very professional, respectful and cleaned up after each day. The quality of the work was great and I would definitely use them again.

Initial contact was 2/18 but our information was not entered into the system and I had to call on the 2/25 to see if he was still interested in the job. The visit was on 2/26, on 3/10 I call to follow up thinking by now he has a bid, I got a return call on 3/11 stating he would email me the bid and to make sure I sent the $150 fee in. I wrote the check and waited for the bid...today 3/22 I get an email stating once he receives the $250 fee he will send me the bid. I've been doing property management for 12 years and have never dealt with a vendor like this. I've gotten 2 FREE bids and will be using one of those vendors. Joe was very pleasant to deal with, I just can't wait to get this repaired and I don't want any run around.

Joe and his office were initially pretty responsive over the phone, which I recall because at the time it was very difficult for me to get a contractor to call me back. I had him come over to look at the details of this home that I was just about to purchase. The walk-through went fine, and he and the guy he'd brought with him seemed professional. I was surprised, however, that Joe didn't take any notes, but was relying on the other guy to notate everything. The upgrades to the house were going to be pretty detailed and numerous, so I was a little nervous that I wasn't sure whether they would remember everything that needed to be estimated. Joe ended up delivering the estimate without a lot of time to make comments before I had to submit it to the people I needed to submit it to. I had asked him to please follow up with me the following Monday with the additional estimates that he said he would provide for upgrades I wanted to make to the bathroom and another room. He never ended up sending that to me. I would have preferred he send me a message at least to say that he wouldn't send me an estimate for that for whatever reason. Note that I can only speak to his estimate services since I did not move forward with him on actual construction.

Joe jumped into a situation I had with another contractor in the middle of the project. He used his professionalism and smarts to get the work to a break even point and not escalate the situation. That saved me a several thousand dollars if Joe would not have interfered the contractor would not have done the work and I would had spent double the amount to undo and redo the work from the first contractor. Joe and his crew also helped me finish the rest of the project additions. Quality and professionalism of Joe and his crew is second to none.

I met Joe from Hudson Home Improvements and within that meeting we developed an entire remodeling plan. Within one week the project started and was completed on time. Joe and his team are amazing and my kitchen turned out incredible. If you need remodeling done right you need to use this company.

I first met with Joe who was very professional and knowledgeable. He was very helpful with picking out the tile, bathtub, fixtures etc. he explained the entire process of the remodel and provided daily updates on the workers progress. The workers were awesome and very detailed in their work. They cleaned up after themselves everyday and we're super nice. I highly recommend this company.

I bought a 1920s frame house in Jersey City at the beginning of summer. I discovered several areas where water had damaged old plaster and lathe ceilings. In one particular room, the plaster was severely cracked and looked unfit to support any new plaster or paint. It looked like a professional job but I couldn't clearly envision the solution, so I called a few contractors on Angie's List and Joe from Hudson Home Improvement was the first one get back to me. I was impressed that he at first recommended I fix it myself, explaining that it could be a rather easy fix involving hanging new drywall. I got some technical recommendations from him and sat around for a week thinking about how to do it before I circled back and asked for his services. He promptly scheduled a visit and showed up on time to give me an estimate. He drew up an itemized contract that left room for optional work. The process moved quickly and his team completed the job ahead of schedule. Joe is one of the most punctual and efficient professionals I have worked with in any business. The original scope of the work involved demolition of the old ceiling, but upon further investigating the structure, Joe determined that it would be more expedient and less expensive to build a new frame below the damaged ceiling and hang dry wall on that. This saved me more than $350.00 and probably days of labor in my house, so I was impressed that Joe proposed that step. The electrical contractor Joe used was also thorough in reworking some ancient wires to connect a new light fixture. The work is now completed as per contract and the room was totally tidied up. I'm already considering Joe and his company for work on this property over the next few years.

Joe and his crew exceeded our expectations many times over. Joe gave us a very detailed and precise estimate along with making us aware of all the possible design options as well as product options. Along the way he would also explain us things wherever needed with online videos, pictures and sometimes based from his experience. He spent significant amount of time to make sure we understood all the project details and were absolutely happy with the options we had selected. Once the project begun, there was no looking back. Him and his crew were absolute professionals. Very punctual with their schedule, very precise with their work with great quality and no surprises on the way. They finished the project before schedule and within budget with superb quality. Joe was always available over the phone and in person whenever needed for questions regarding the project. I wouldn't have asked for anything any different.

Joe and his crew were amazing. I found him searching on Angie's List, and even on here I've had hit or miss experiences so I wasn't keeping my hopes up. His listing looks like his company only does larger projects, but they made time and space for our little needs and I'm so grateful that they did. The quality was top notch, the crews were incredibly polite and respectful of our space, we didn't need to be around to supervise, and they were really patient and accommodating when it came to changing needs/requests that came because we thought better of an idea, or started looking at something and it didn't seem right. Two huge bonuses worth noting: Joe and his crew finished swiftly -- all of our work took a matter of days -- and then when it was all wrapped up, he brought a cleaning service in to take care of the sawdust and drywall dust, which was such a nice touch and totally unexpected. I give Hudson Home Improvement straight As, even with the price. I didn't have a lot of extra wiggle room in my budget, but felt the price was well worth it in terms of quality, ease of mind, and overall service. In the end, I am more than happy to have paid him for every penny and hope to contract his services again.

This is actually the 2nd time I've hired Hudson Home Improvement (the first time was in Dec 2013), and I sought them out again for this second job. I was very pleased with their workmanship and professionalism on both occasions. A while back, the old fiberglass corrugated back porch roof on my parents home had partially caved in under the weight of some of the heavy snows of recent years. The older wooden framing had become rotted in a number of places and they replaced it with sturdier, pressure treated wood. The old white fiberglass panels had discolored and were replaced by new smokey-colored poly-carbonate panels which actually let in more light. The project was about four days of work for the mostly two man crew. One of the things I liked about working with Hudson Home Improvement was that they were flexible with us and they were able to handle some necessary changes to the project without any problems. It was much appreciated!

Mr. Shoback refused to provide me with a Written Proposal to have a kitchen remodel. Because our Home Owners Insurance Company was involved, he insisted on handling all transactions with them. Well, that's none of his business. Mr. Shoback appeared arrogant and for this reason alone, I would not recommend him to anyone. In his assessment of my reason for calling him, Mr. Shoback clarified one thing correctly. I experienced a water leak in the house that I will add resulted in mold remediation. It is really unfortunate to find that Mr. Shoback misrepresented my intention by claiming the I insisted he 'stack' the estimate he never provided to get more money for me; this is a complete fabrication of the call that I intentionally recorded to avoid such misrepresentations of facts later. Frankly, I never heard the term 'stack'. I will submit that in all likelihood this was his own intention. I am an honest Christian with high moral valued and really take issue with this defamation of character. So much so, I am calling Angie's List Management the first thing on Monday. I see a pattern emerge with Mr. Shoback. When he receives an unfavorable review he spins the truth of what really occurred to continue to support his web of falsehoods; this is very telling. Angie's List Management must really keep an eye on him. In closing, I received two (2) professional written proposals from Licensed NJ State Home Builders and Home Improvement Contractors which I submitted to the insurance Adjuster without incident or their insistence on working directly with my insurance company. My purpose throughout this process was to insure the the insurance company accurately report the scope of work needing to be done. Interestingly enough, both Proposals came to within $150.00 apart of the other; this is truth telling. End of story.

Joe was willing to get involved, but suggested that I contact a mason directly. Hudson is more focused on remodeling.

The work was excellent! They went above and beyond our expectations. Project management was excellent. They kept me informed and finished right on schedule. The crew was professional and considerate, very easy to work with. They had really good reviews on Angie's List and my interview with the owner went really well. Joe was professional, knowledgable, and competent. I felt very comfortable letting him in my home to do the work.

Joe charged neither for the diagnostic nor the proposal, and spent considerable time on both. While we opted to go another route this time, I would work with Joe in the future and recommend him strongly.

Hudson was great. The old plaster ceiling collapsed with no warning, so prompt repair was essential. Joe was right on it, and had a team dispatched immediately. They arrived as scheduled and worked promptly. They checked with me regularly, both on needs and results. They found some other problems (leaking skylights, broken gate) that I had not noticed, and asked if I wanted them to take care of them, which I did. They finished right on schedule, making sure that all cleanup was completed and work done to my satisfaction. Can't imagine using any other firm for construction or repair work. Previously remodeled kitchen. Very helpful with ideas, design help, and cabinet selection. Excellent with suggestions for opening up the kitchen and making it more efficient and user-friendly. Found other contractors (e.g. marble, electrical) for work that they didn't do, and managed them in a timely and professional manner. All work done right on schedule and in budget.

Even though my kitchen is small and the options for a new layout were limited - the team came up with a blue print that allowed me to maximize the space. They made suggestions for all material providers and appliances. I've previously done a few renovation projects with other contractors - and working with Joe's team has been the least stressful experience. Everyone on the team is professional, respectful and helpful. I liked being able to completely trust the team coming and going and working at my place while I was traveling. Joe is very responsible and a couple of times saved me from erroneous decisions.

I have a duplex, and the serious and continuous leak from my upstairs bathroom ruined my basement - the floor, the closets, the ceiling had to be ripped out and completely re-done. Joe helped me through the entire project and definitely helped alleviate a bit portion of the associated stress. He helped me to identify the issue (I initially thought that the fault was with the floor installation) and fix the immediate aftermath. He worked with me through my interaction with the insurance company and his guidance proved very helpful as I didn't have any previous experience in the matter. He helped negotiate the insurance settlement to the possible maximum by providing detailed and accurate estimate. Once the insurance settlement was determined, Joe helped me source and order the materials. The installation work was done while I was traveling. I could also count on Joe with any little question or request. The responsible, trustworthy and supportive contractor's team is a rarity and I wish the team the continued success.

I contacted Hudson Home Improvement based on the glowing reviews I found on Angies List. They contacted me back and we set up a consultation. Joe came out and immediately understood what I was looking for and the look I wanted for my condo kitchen and bathrooms. I was a little disorganized when we first chatted and probably did not give him all the details he needed immediately, but he took it in stride and came up with a terrific plan that fit all my needs.I sent him some photographs of ideas I liked and he was able to incorporate that perfectly. He was very upfront with the difficulties that some suppliers could cause and recommended others. I followed his recommendations and I am glad that I did. He recommended quartz over granite due to its easier care and durability and I am extremely pleased with what I chose. He was able to find additional kitchen cabinetry for me that matched my existing cabinets. They new additional cabinets are installed and you cannot tell the difference. His team took about 3 weeks to complete the job and it came out fantastic. The kitchen looks transformed and the bathrooms look very polished and high end. His team was very neat, talented, and responsive. They communicated immediately if they had questions or recommendations, as I needed to be at the office and could not be on site during the renovations. Each night I came home from work very pleased with the progress and work they made. His estimate was a bit higher than some other contractors I spoke to, but totally worth it. The workmanship and quality is superb and I am extremely pleased. One side note, my water heater went on their last scheduled day there...luckily, the plumber was coming out to finish the last bit of installation on some faucets the next morning and immediately took a look at the water heater. He indicated that it needed to be replaced and schedule a time to come back and install (tomorrow morning.) I was very happy with their flexibility and pricing. I would highly recommend hiring Hudson Home Improvement at anytime!
