Description of Work: Absolutly nothing. Didn't pass the initial phone call. Apparently replacing 2 vessel sink and some tile work is not a big enough job. I was told that i need an handy man. Ok so why is this company listed under handy man and getting reviews for jobs smaller than mine? I guess my money was not good enough i guess.

Not well
Description of Work: Joe reluctantly came out to the property to do a walk through and to answer a few questions as part of a pre-bid interview back in May. He provided us with a few ideas and we agreed to touch base once the plans were ready to bid on. In late June, we sent out RFQs to three contractors including Hudson Home Improvement. Joe did not respond to the initial email and subsequently asked us for a two week extension to submit his bid. We granted the extension and hosted an additional walk through with Joe. That was the last time we heard from Joe. He went completely silent on us, not responding to emails or calls. We were quite disappointed by his total lack of accountability and professionalism that he demonstrated. I am not sure if the project was too big or if he was too busy but I do not conduct business in this manner and would not recommend Hudson Home Improvement to anyone.

Response from Hudson Home Improvement LLC
This was an investor project. Two partners and their 'friend' architect who was creating the drawings. First, I was 'reluctant' to visit the site initially. However I agreed to a 'meet and greet' given they didn't have a finalized set of plans. Typically I visit the site after the homeowner has a set of drawings or is contracting us to create a design. The meeting turned into them (including the architect) peppering me with questions about Jersey City, the process, etc. I was a bit surprised the architect was unfamiliar with all this process. The architect called me and asked to bid the project. I informed him I was extremely busy at the time and wouldn't be able to start until January at the earliest. "they really like you and want a bid from you" is what I got from him. Yeah, of course they liked me...out of the parade of contractors they had in there I was probably the only one that could articulate the building department process and willing and able to work in Jersey City. They asked and so I pointed out a few basic issues the building department will have with the plans they created. They were asking me "where I get my plans stamped". Huh? If they had a licensed architect they wouldn't be going through all this. I simply don't work like this. Then the architect had the final drawing he emailed it to me. I asked for a meeting with the architect on-site to 'walk the project' now that we have the actual drawing. I also asked for a set of drawings. I got neither. Instead, I was pressured to come over again meet one of the partners who was almost an hour late - he was overly apologetic and walk the job with the partner and a small set of drawings printed in such small print that was not useful. I was never radio-silent as the other partner suggests. That isn't true. Instead, it just seemed like a lot of mis-communication within their 'company' which if there is an issue this early in the stage imagine what will happen once construction begins. I informed the architect who I was dealing with throughout that I wished them well. Perhaps the email is currently sitting in his spam folder or he missed it and instead read the email with the plan deficiencies. Either way I wish them luck.

Description of Work: I called Hudson Home Improvement because I was interested in having my kitchen and bathroom remodeled. Joe came to have a look at things on Saturday, October 4th. I gave him a general idea of what I was looking for and he indicated that he would have an estimate written up for me. He said he'd try to get it for me by Wednesday, October 8th, but he was then going away for a long weekend so if it wasn't completed, I would get it when he got back. I didn't even expect it that week, but when it got to Friday, October 17th, I emailed him asking if I should still be expecting something from him or was he not interested in the job. He said he had been away and if I could give him until the middle of the following week, he'd have something for me. It is now November 24th. I never heard back from him.

Description of Work: Initially came to inspect a window replacement project in which he requested a $100 deposit just to inspect the windows. Once I tried to schedule the work he became unresponsive and hard to get a hold of. We had schedule a date for final measurements and was a no show. | |In the end I got a second a opinion which turned out to be much less expensive. I ended up going with another contractor and ate the $100 deposit. | |It's one thing, and totally acceptable, to be busy and unable to fit a small projection into your schedule, but unacceptable to be unresponsive. Contractors need to be upfront and not waste people's time.

Description of Work: I did not use Hudson Home Improvement. They came to my home, I showed them my kitchen that another contractor had started and then left. I explained what I had wanted. I later received an estimate for only labor which was over $12,000 for a fairly small (about 9'x16') kitchen. The estimate said I was to source and supply all of the material. I emailed back saying that I needed a contractor that could do the entire job, meaning source and supply their own material. The response back was he thought I said I had someone for that? He obviously was not listening because I said that the last contractor, was going to supply everything. Also, I asked why it was going to cost over $12,000 dollars without supplying ANY material and he NEVER responded.

Response from Hudson Home Improvement LLC
Dear customer- Thank you for the feedback. Typically, we work best when we handle all aspects of the project from design through ordering materials through execution. You already had many of the cabinets. You only needed to order cabinet parts for the items the prior contractor didn't order correctly. You didn't have a cabinet layout plan so it was impossible to identify the missing parts although you said you knew which ones were needed. And the manufacturer was in China. I was unfamiliar with that manufacturer, typically we do not deal with Chinese cabinets. I had no idea how to source the missing parts although you said you could source it all. So, I thought it made a lot of sense under the conditions for you to order the remaining parts. Regarding the price. I do wish we were able to bid the project at a lower price. Unfortunately, given the intermediate state of work on your kitchen and the fact that the work that was completed was performed by unlicensed, uninsured contractors with no permit meant that it all had to be ripped out and re-done. We needed licensed trades, permits, plans, etc. I suspect this state of the current kitchen work is the result of selecting the lowest-bid. It has been my experience that doing the project correctly the first time even if it means spending a little more initially saves time, headache, heartache and leads to a more satisfied customer in the long run. If you need any advice on the process or want me to take a look at the state of the work that you are getting done give me a call and I'll swing by as a courtesy to help your project along. Best regards, Joe Shoback

My wife and I are renovating our house, and therefore have used several contractors in the Jersey City area over the past few years. Simply put, Husdon Home Improvement have been the best so far. Joe and his team were courteous, responsive, skilled, and went out of their way to make the work go smoothly. In fact, the work was actually completed sooner than they had originally estimated, and looked immaculate! Further, they showed up in the middle of a major storm to put the finishing touches on the floor, as promised. I plan on hiring them again, and would absolutely recommend them to any of my friends and neighbors.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS COUPLE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A CONTRACTOR IN THE PAST SO IT TOOK A LOT FOR US TO EARN THEIR TRUST. SOMETIMES PROJECTS GO QUICKER AND SMOOTHER THAN EXPECTED. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE SCENARIOS. ONE HICCUP WAS THE TRANSITION FOR THE TILE FLOOR LEADING TO THE DINING ROOM. THEY WANTED SOMETHING ECO-FRIENDLY AND THUS WE HAD TO FABRICATE A CUSTOM TRANSITION PIECE. THE COUPLE WERE EASY TO DEAL WITH. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE BUSINESS AND LOOK FORWARD TO DEALING WITH YOU IN THE FUTURE. JOE SHOBACK
