They were awesome!! Showed up early and worked almost the entire day. Crew was professional, courteous and did exactly what I discussed with Scott. All hazardous dead wood was trimmed from trees around my home and suckers removed as well. Ornamental trees were trimmed and shaped and the large dead tree and bush were removed with no issues. They are the only tree service I will use from now on.

Mulch delivered as expected.

Downes was excellent! Price quoted was the most competitive from a number of service providers. The crew was on time, punctual, and went out of their way to do the job well and meet and exceed expectations. As an example. the original estimate was quoted taking into account the removal of a tree which we decided on "cut day" not to remove. Without asking, Downes mailed a check to me as a refund for the work not performed. I would absolutely recommend.

Initial estimate was fair and thorough, very cordial contact person for the area where I live. Excellent service through the phone, with my phone number they already knew who I was and what I was calling about. Day of service crew arrived promptly, very polite and friendly. Short delay in dumpster truck arrival was met with responsibility, crew did not have lunch until job was completely finished. Final removal of stomp was done when I was not home and the backyard was left as if not touched. Existing plants around the removed tree grew back. They honored 5% Angie's list member discount without a blink.

Quality of topsoil was excellent. Perfect for any landscape work. They provided fair pricing and delivered the top soil on time. The forecast was rain on the day of topsoil delivery. The front office admin (Melissa) advised us that they would call us ahead if it rained as the topsoil would be wet and heavy to carry. So, that helped us a lot. Recommend them for anyone planning to use topsoil.

We have used them in emergency and non-emergency situations. They are prompt, courteous, thorough and efficient. They leave the property clean and neat.

The price was reasonable. They sent a tree expert out first and then they had the workers come out to do the labor. The workers were prompt and did a good job cleaning up. I would recommend them and use them again.

Their work was great. They were just prompt and easy to work with. I have used them in the previous season for the mulch when I had tree damage from Sandy.

Scott was outstanding. They did wonderful work and had excellent workmen. Scott had an architect eye. He gave us recommendations. He listened to us. We are very happy, and it looks wonderful. It was a very positive experience. We felt like we got our money’s worth. The clean up was wonderful.

Due to the tornado that went through the Fair Lawn, Paramus area we had damage to a very old, very large oak tree. This tree is in a pre-school play yard. Tom came on Monday the 21st of October, assessed the situation, looked at other damaged trees and provided an estimate before leaving our site. We approved the estimate later that same day. I got a call back that evening from Tom letting me know that there would be a crew there the next morning early to do the needed pruning. True to the commitment the crew from Downes was at my site early on Tuesday. They were prompt, courteous and professional. The crew worked to clear out the twisted broken branches from the oak tree. There were 2 additional trees that were in need of attention. The crew cleaned up all of the resultant mess and left our site in much better shape. The oak tree looks healthy and without the damaged branches is a much safer tree. I would recommend Downes Tree Service to anyone needing work done. I definitely would use them again for any necessary tree work.

I was amazed at how quickly the job was scheduled and executed on. It was a completely painless process with great service all throughout.

Downes responded promptly and arrived on time to give an estimate for tree removal. While we were impressed with their knowledge, their price was $1000 higher than the company we went with. We did mention this to them, but they only offered to take off an additional $200. Cost was the only reason why we did not hire them.

Great. I purchased a deal from Angie's List since I had already done business with Downs Tree Service. Last year they came and cut down 4 GIANT trees. They took great care in the work they did. I was VERY worried about the lawn and what type of marks would be left on the lawn, as 3 of the tress were in our back yard, Downs is a great company and the do great work don't look any further if you want someone reliable to do business with.

After having done business with Downes in the spring of 2012, I had an emergency situation after the hurricane. I thought that having done business with them that they would respond. I was wrong. They stopped returning my calls. I had to pay through the nose for another tree service. I have since had more trees taken down in my and did not use Downes. If you treat customers with disregard then you lose them as customers. They lost me.

Were very responsive during a difficult time for our state. Showed compassion and great patience.

Service was simple and straight forward from quote, order and delivery.
