Dear Member, I do appreciate getting your feedback even though we weren't able to make you a satisfied customer. Your main issue relates to the price of our estimate, and not having the estimates from the other companies in front of me to compare what they offered vs. our offer means I can't honestly point out any reasons for the price difference. I will say however that many lower cost tree providers often leave out the removal of tree waste (either limbs or woodchips) in order to lower their own disposal costs. This leaves you, the homeowner, with unsightly material decomposing on your property. Our prices INCLUDE wood waste disposal unless specifically directed by the homeowner. Another possible reason for the price discrepancy for the quote done at the end of the summer is that at the time Downes Tree Service had sufficient work backlog. Many other local tree care companies had lowered their prices aggressively to get residential work. Here at Downes, as you noticed, we didn't drop our prices to match other guys. Now that several months have passed and you've probably had the work done, I'd like to hear about your experience with the tree care company that did the work. Did they leave wood waste on your property? Did you have any crane work done? Was the other company able to get you a certificate of insurance listing you as an additional insured, just in case any damage was done to your property? We are a professional tree care company in business for nearly 29 years and hope to get the opportunity at another time to win your business. Description of Work: Tom, an experienced certified tree expert, carefully considered options for reshaping overgrown areas. He presented a very detailed proposal for the hedge and tree work needed to restore landscape health and balance. This even included notes on equipment needed so everything was in place at his briefing when the crew arrived. They were prompt and worked smoothly as a team, taking obvious pride in their work as the crew chief checked back with me to insure satisfaction. All my contacts with this company from first office call to job completion conveyed an impression of high professional standards.

Tom Youmans, the arborist you worked with, is very knowledgeable and as a Certified Tree Expert is on top of the new research in arboriculture. For example, new research has shown that gradual pruning of live limbs on a large tree can maintain its health while allowing the tree to adjust to the loss of the energy source. Drastic pruning can actually create a more hazardous tree because the tree will be more prone to die-back and future failure. Really it is best to get guidance from a Certified Tree Expert, and Downes has three on staff. Please contact us if you have any questions or if you’d like to see Tom for a free estimate. Just lousy.
Description of Work: These people are completely impossible. They are never rude but simply do not respond. Every time I called they expressed surprise that I had even signed an agreement. They could not EVER find my paperwork. This went on for 9 months. Naturally I was understanding for a very long time about the huge problems associated with Hurricane Irene, but this went on far beyond that time period. Finally I just had to find another company. They never even noticed. They are so big and important that my measly $3000.00 worth of tree trimming and removal was not worth their time of day!

Dear Member, We sincerely apologize for the poor service we have given you. Making you a satisfied customer and completing the tree work you contracted us for ARE important to us, but unfortunately we did not execute as we normally do. We initially did not get to the bulk of your tree work for two reasons: the ground did not freeze sufficiently this past winter and we had difficulty in getting crane access from your neighbor’s yard. I would like to clarify though that we did do some of your tree work on December 15 of last year (top and shape the hemlock hedge and the southern magnolia, and cut back the cedar and euonymus). As you referred to in your letter, Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm caused major difficulties in our operation due to the sheer volume of emergency work they created. We have been making improvements in the way we handle the paperwork to make sure we don’t repeat the mistakes we made with you. Although there are some valid reasons for our delay, at the very least we should have kept in touch with you and communicated our situation. Needless to say, we will not be billing you for the work done in December. Please accept our apologies for your frustration. WENT VERY WELL OVERALL.
Description of Work: MY ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THAT THEY DIDN'T CALL US WHEN IT RAINED AND THEY OBVIOUSLY COULDN'T CUT DOWN THE TREE THAT DAY. OTHERWISE THEY WERE VERY GOOD IN EVERY RESPECT.
