DOWNES TREE SERVICE

Sent detailed email asking for estimate. When I finally talked to someone (had to make multiple phone calls, as they didn't return mine) I made it clear that while in my opinion the tree needs to come down, right now I want only dead limbs removed, with the whole tree to be removed this winter. Two further days with no contact from Downes. Then I'm working in my front yard--on a ladder, with a bright red shirt on and a safety orange electric hedge trimmer in my hand. A Downes truck pulls up. The driver gets out, sees me, and without a word starts walking down my driveway into my back yard. "Where are you going?" I ask. "Don't you have a tree that needs to come down?" the guy says. "No," I say, "I need some limbs removed--and you need to walk down my neighbor's driveway to see that." He walks down the driveway, comes back, and says "The tree needs to come down. We're not going to just take limbs off it. And oh, by the way, my name is Scott." Needless to say I told Scott I'd be using another company for the work. I called to let the company know Scott's arrogant rudeness cost them the job, and the response was "Oh, he must be having a bad day." Bottom line: this company doesn't return your calls, they don't pay attention to what you say on the phone, and they'll try to upsell you even when you've been very clear ahead of time about what you want. Don't waste your time with Downes.

The initial visit was very pleasant and informative. They showed up on time and were very professional. We received some good advice on some other item that Downs was not going to work on. Once we decided to hire Downs, they arranged a convenient time to do the work. They showed up on schedule and all the work was done and totally cleaned up. The tree looks great now. We couldn't have more pleased with the service. We will recommend Down's to anyone that need tree service.

DOWNES TREE SERVICE REP (MIKE F.) ARRIVED HOUSE ON TIME TO PROVIDE ESTIMATE. PRICE WAS NOT THE LOWEST OF FOUR BIDS BUT APPEARED TO BE REASONABLE. A FACTOR IN CHOOSING DOWNES WERE THE MANY FAVORABLE REPORTS ON ANGIES LIST. CREW HAD TO CLIMB THE TREES - COULD NOT USE USE BUCKET BECAUSE OF LIMITED ACCESS TO THE REAR OF PROPERTY. LARGE LIMBS WERE LOWERED TO THE GROUND WITH ROPES. CREW AND CREW CHIEF WERE FRIENDLY, COOPERATIVE, AND INFORMATIVE. . CLEAN-UP WAS THOROUGH (PROPERTY, ROOF, STREET AND NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTIES). MINIMAL DAMAGED (IF ANY) TO FLOWER BEDS. HIGHLY SATISFIED AND RECOMMENDED.

They come quickly and they respond quickly. They service it in a reasonable amount of time and they don’t put us on a waiting list or anything. They told me what they were doing and they said they would come back because they had to get some more equipment and they came back when they said they would come back. They let me know what they were doing and answered all my questions.

They arrived when they said they would and stayed till they were finished. They used a crane and carefully removed both trees without damaging other trees or the house. And they nicely cut the stumps down to practically nothing ... an inch or two high. That was amazing. The team also used leaf blowers to clean the leaves and debris from their limb grinder off the street and my driveway. The crew left the segments of the tree trunks which were too big to grind along the side of the street. A couple hours after the cutting team had left another truck arrived and used a small crane to pick up the pieces of the trunks and put them on the truck bed. The loading process took about fifteen minutes. It was an all around excellent job.

Gave an estimate within a couple of days. We accepted estimate for work to start a few weeks down the road. Get call very next week that the crew is ready to go on that day - would that be possible? The crew arrived around noon and stayed for most of the afternoon, trimming, cutting and grinding - and cleaning up! Nice job. Professional. Courteous.

Excellent. From start (estimate) to finish (removal of the tree), the experience was outstanding. The estimator (Mike) was on time, cordial, and gave a very reasonable price. I'd gotten another estimate from a non-Angie's list contractor who had done work at a relative's home and was trusted and very inexpensive, but the Downes estimate was better. Considering they were a larger and more professional company I selected Downes. Best decision. I wanted the work done before I left the area in a week. Although the process of confirming the date for the work wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped (maybe I misunderstood what they were telling me), they did meet my schedule and it all worked out very well in the end. When the crew arrived they noted that equipment could not access the back yard. All work had to be done by hand. They literally carried each branch and trunk piece out by hand. Further, I asked that they not make any big divots in the lawn and flower bed, so they carefully handled each piece of the tree, lowering it slowly into the hands of a waiting employee to be carried off. When complete, they cleaned up and it was as if the tree was never there. I was impressed. Considering the price, responsiveness, and professionalism, I'll use Downes Tree Service again in a heartbeat if I ever need another tree removed.

Downe was terrific not only were they the only tree people who came and gave us an estimate, after the October storm.They came as promised after the larger more dangerous trees were taken down. They kept their promise were fast and efficient and did a beautiful cleanup job. I would highly recommend this company.

tree service.They came and provided a proposal, which I agreed to. Over a month and half later, when the work was finally scheduled, they were a no show. Not even a phone call. When I called them, there were plenty of excuses but in the end, I waited for a month and half and still have the same tree so I going with another tree service.

We were very satisfied with them. They were excellent. Their service was good and they came when they said they would. Their price was right. The price was about $470. They cleaned up very well and they were very nice. They did the work and we were very pleased. We would use them again.

NO SERVICES WERE PERFORMED AS THEY NEVER PROVIDED ME WITH AN ESTIMATE FOR THE JOB. AFTER 2 WEEKS, I WENT WITH A COMPANY WHO CARED ENOUGH TO RESPOND.

The owner came in June and gave me an estimate for pruning two trees and advised that I wait until the fall to do the work as that would be best for the trees. When I was ready for them to come back, I called, the work was scheduled, and they were here within days. The trees look great and everything was cleaned up.

They were good and I would recommend them to anyone. They were actually recommended to me by my friend. We would rate them high overall. They came and did everything within two hours. They were very very fast. They didn’t come immediately as we had scheduled them to come on a Saturday when my husband was home. So it took a few days to schedule and it wasn’t because of them. It was mainly because we wanted it on a Saturday. I would definitely call them again. We have also actually called them to have a look at our trees as we have a lot of them and have several tree problems.

They were prompt and they gave me a very good estimate. I am very likely going to work with them. They came when they were scheduled to come. I haven't spent any money yet but I probably will. They were professional, prompt and straightforward.

They came out when they said they would. I don't think I had any tree taken out. Each tree is a different proposition. I don't remember their price, but I felt it was fair. They did everything that I expected a tree surgeon or whatever they call themselves to do. They did exactly what they were supposed to do. I will use them again when I have work to be done.

They did a good job, and we were satisfied. They were on-time, and everything worked out.

A friend had used and recommended them. Their expert came promptly, then said my tree didn't really need work. He offered helpful advice.

It went wonderful. Workers asked if the tree was trimmed enough to my satisfaction. They work clean and quick. I am quite pleased with professionalism and price was under competitions, The estimate was exact charges. Will use again.

They were excellent. I don’t recall what they charged but I do remember that it was reasonable. They are courteous, efficient, and reliable. I recommend them.

They did exactly what was promised. They took down a large willow efficiently, safely and quickly. I would use them again.

When I called to say I'd made the decision to use Downes, Tom said it would be closer to the end of the next week before they could get the job done but then a few days later he called to ask if they could do the work that day since it wasn't that big a job. It worked for me and by 8am the team was here.They worked in a light rain.One thing I liked was that Tom came over with the team to go over the game plan. Everything went according to plan. The team was very professional and got the job done just as planned. They took away all the debris and used a leaf blower to clean up my flower bed which to my delight was only minimally disturbed. They had to move the BBQ grill to do the work and replaced it back in it's spot afterwards. It was hard deciding which service to use as I got all three from Angie's List and all of them were top rated. They all contacted me in a timely fashion and their tree experts were very professional. The estimate I got from Downes was a little higher than the other two because after my discussion with Tom I added some other tree to be trimmed that I had not talked about with the others. It turned out to be a good decision. I can't tell you how pleased I am with how the back yard looks.Taking those trees down really opened it up. It will be interesting to see how much sun we will get in the yard now that the trees are gone. It's been raining all day. I would use them again and would recommend them to friends.

Very happy with their workmanship

We were scheduled for June 11th but they arrived on the 8th. We weren't given advanced notice but that didn't seem to matter. They just came and did their work. They knew what they were doing and seemed to work well as a team. They removed the tree on Tuesday, removed the trunk and stump on Wednesday. One thing that stood out was how well they cleaned up the patio and lawn. except for the missing tree you wouldn't know that anything was done.

there were approximately 5 individuals working to cut dead branches and remove debris. I was extremely impressed with their efficiency and the care that was taken to clean up the mess. The job took approximately 4 1/2 hours from start to finish.

Extremely smoothly. They gave me an estimate in the summer which was better than other estimates - and offered a sizable discount if I had the work done in the winter, when business is slow for them. Their removal crew showed up on time - in fact, half an hour early, with a large crane for hoisting the tree over the house from the back yard to the street, piece by piece, as the crew cut off sections of it while hanging from ropes. They cut the branches and ran them through a wood chipper, and an hour later their loghauler truck showed up to take away the sections of trunk, which were as much as 4 ft. thick. The whole thing was very professional, and they were done in a couple of hours. The stump removal crew was a separate operation, and there was a glitch in scheduling their work, but when they showed up they were every bit as competent as the first crew. This outfit is generally well known in our area for this kind of work, and it does work for the town I live in. They are the right people to call around here.
