Description of Work: Two men with a very tall ladder reinstalled a piece of vinyl stripping that had been blown off by high winds high on my roof. Another large piece of stripping were reinforced to prevent wind damage. Utilizing reviews from Angies List my first contact was on 2/14, midday. The office contacted me by telephone in the afternoon. An appointment was made but I changed it to 2/19. Although the weather was inclement a quality job was done beginning at 1 pm and once finished was to my satisfaction. Had I done the job myself I would have spent about the same amount for the necessary equipment, given the situation. I had sought bids from two local handymen who did not respond promptly and did not follow up effectively. I would utilize Ray Brown's services again.

Description of Work: Asked them to check caps and 3 fireplaces, which they did. Spoke to owner on the phone, who sent two spanish speaking men to perform services requested. One did not speak english, the other one seemed to have a limited understanding. Both were courteous, I could not communicate effectively with them, which in turn produced a less than satisfactory result.

A boss and two other men arrived at 10:00 a.m. They took a full 60-minute break from noon-1:00 p.m., and they left at 3:50 p.m., for a total time there of six hours, (or five, removing the one hour when everyone was away). Meanwhile I was charged for seven hours. The boss said that he had to go and get supplies during the hour when everyone was out, but this did not explain why the other two men had to be out the entire hour. (They were small items for the kitchen and shower faucets, no lifting involved.) So I was charged $147.50 for an hour when everyone was out, plus another $147.50 for an additional hour outside the 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. time when they were there. I also came into the building one point in the afternoon and found the boss outside the lobby talking on the phone. I tried to ask him something but he brushed me aside. If I'm paying for the time, why is he brushing me off to talk on the phone? Also, when the boss spoke about the work in the weeks prior to the work date, he said he would be sending two guys to do the bathroom repairs, and that they would replace the kitchen faucet and check valve on their downtime. Then, he showed up and did the kitchen work himself. He never said why there was this switch in the plans. So, I had to pay him for seven hours of time to replace a kitchen faucet, check valve, and switch the DW connection. (Parts cost extra.) This seems excessive to me. Even if this was too much work for the other two to do in their downtime ? seven hours to replace a kitchen faucet? There is already a leak in the shower head. It is on top, and feels as though it might have been tightened too tightly and so it sprung a leak. At any rate, it is leaking, and has been for the past month.
Description of Work: One boss and two of his helpers did the work. The work done by the boss was: (1) the kitchen faucet was replaced; (2) a check valve was installed; (3) and the DW connection was switched from the cold pipe to the hot pipe. The work done by the two other helpers was: (1) bathroom tiles were removed, moisture behind the wall was fixed, and tiles were put back and grouted; (2) a shower head and faucet were replaced.

He did a great job. No problems.
Description of Work: The top five courses of brick on our chimney were deteriorating. The mortar between the bricks had just been eroded. Ray Brown essentially rebuilt the top of the chimney and put a stainless steel cap on. He did a very professional job all by himself. He also cleaned up after himself. I was very pleased.

I hired him because of all the reviews that he had on Angieslist. He did a wonderful job with the deck except for there were some things that I was not that I was not pleased with. They did the job in three days. The work underneath the deck was the reason why I hired him because all the water was coming into my basement through the window. He said to me that he was going to elevate the ground underneath the deck and then put cement. So when the water comes down, it would run downward and not up against the foundation of the building. I am the type of person who will have someone else also check your work. That was what I did. I had someone else to come in that I trusted to see what he did because I don’t know anything about this type of work. I am a widow and I don’t have anybody to oversee if he was doing the right thing. He didn’t build up the ground so that the water could run off. I thought that he would have put a window well. There is also like a cover that you can install over the window. All of these would help the water from not coming in. He just used the cover that was already there that I knew had a hole in it. He didn’t even put a new window well. He just took some dirt that he took from digging three holes in the ground. That dirt went to build up the ground. They just took some cement and dropped it down over the dirt. When they finished the deck, you could look right underneath the deck. I did not like that. I had to hire somebody else again to come in and put the lattice around the deck so animals won’t make their home underneath the deck. They did a wonderful job. I went to Lowes and bought the lattice and some other things. They worked till 7 o’clock at night to finish the deck which was dark here. When I went out to look there myself, I saw some imperfections. A slab in the floor on the deck that he used which was pretty expensive a chip in it. He could have put a perfect piece of slab there. He did not reimburse me for the material that was left over that I paid for. I did not like that. He didn’t offer to pay me for the left over material. The deck that I had was 8 x 16. So I extended the deck out four feet more to make it 12 x 16. The deck looks beautiful. But I didn’t like some of the things how he operated with me. I don’t have any more use for the extra material. I have been in the house for 16 years. The original deck was probably 8 x 10 and somebody prior to me extended it by another six feet. When they tore down the deck, they found that the beams underneath were not just inches apart, they were twenty. So what he did with the material that he had in yard, he just put in beams for 16 across. He didn’t use the old beams. I thought that it was pretty exorbitant that the material was already there. All they had to do was to cut the beams and install about three beams or so. That was extra and about $420. I told him when he came to look at the job that since he didn’t put anything around the deck, the animals would go underneath and make a hole. He just left it wide open and I really didn’t appreciate that. He offered to put the lattice around the deck for an additional cost. The next morning I sent him a text and said that I could buy the lattice myself and someone else could put it up for me. I told him not to buy the lattice. He sent me a text message back and said that he was at Lowes right then and that the lattice costs $54. He said that I needed five pieces. Also he said that the color may not match but it was pretty close. But when I went to Lowes close to my house, they had the color of the lattice that would match the floor of my deck. I went to one Lowes and they didn’t have the color. That was a special order and it would cost around $49 and change. I went to another Lowes and found a close match. They had it in stock and I bought it for $23 and change. The other contractor cam and did a beautiful job of installing it for me. I only needed 3 pieces. He didn’t rip all the existing foundation of the old deck. He just dug in three holes and put in some foundation. I asked the contractor to look underneath the house to see if the extended four feet was firm in terms of holding up. He did not put in new beams at the end of house. He put in a beam where the eight feet ended. So the contractor said that whatever you did underneath the deck would hold the deck. But he was very smart in getting a lot of money out of me. He didn’t do a whole lot of work. I went to Angieslist to find someone who is fair in dealing with people. But people are going to be people where ever you go and if they can the money out of you, they are going to take it. That is what Mr. Brown did. I wouldn’t use him again. He calls you back like he says and he doesn’t keep you waiting. He was nice and friendly. He was easy to get along with and easy to talk with. He gives you the boom in the end.
Description of Work: I hired Ray Brown Jr Services LLC to do the deck in my back which was very old. I had water coming into my basement that was flooding the basement through a window that was underneath the deck. So I wanted him to do that work. He did the work this month.

I called Ray as water was gushing out of the garage. Came on emergency at 11.00 and they where there in next hour. Ray and the boys came in and did a professional job. They put a sump pump and pulled pipe over my lawn. They came in couple of days later and finished the job nicely. Also woked with the state water supply to detect the cause of the damage. I would recommend them for their professionalism and quality.

There was a problem with the man getting the windows cleaned. As soon as the problem was noted, it was addressed. The windows are 4 over 6,(many panes) and a beautiful job was done scrapping all the paint and the windows are lovely and clean. the trash was hauled promptly away, and the roof and gutters are look pristine. A great job! The beauty of this company is that they really are handymen. Many people in the Lake community i live in are now using them. They will do anything. They will be back to hang curtain rods for me and repair screens. They have a master plumber and electrician and others. Here at this community they have done the following jobs beautifully: replace a roof, reglaze windows, paint, power wash a deck, replace a deck, move furniture, and are scheduled to update a kitchen and to put in a fireplace insert and repair a hearth. Ray is excellent. He is quick to respond, correct any errors, well organized, and employs good workers. If he is not doing your job personally he is there to check and make sure you are happy. A great company that deserves an A+
Description of Work: I had trash hauled away. The roof and gutters cleaned and swept. I had all windows in the house scrapped of old paint and cleaned. This is a 100 year old house with huge windows (over 19).

Birds were going in through the windows of the attic and building nests. So they took the whole thing out and fixed it. They did what they said they would. They quoted a price and didn?t increase it. It was what they said. They came when they were supposed to come today. I was sick with flu in the house. They were walking in and out. They didn?t bother me and just went about their work. They did a good job, but have some room for improvement.

He was on time, and did work as promised, my only complaint was the price, I was originally given a price of $400.00, When the job was completed it went to $475.00, I got him down to $450.00. The reason given for the extra money was that he had to cement around top of chimney. The whold job only took 2.5 hours, and part of that time he was waiting for the cement to set up. Overall it was a good job.

Brown Service did a superb job! They were very polite and courteous and arrived right on time. They said they would be here at a certain time and they were. They cleaned up all their mess, which was great because I have had contractors that did not in the past. His price was very reasonable for all the work they did.
