Wow ? what a great company!! I joined Angie?s List for one reason ? it?s Sunday ? Super Bowl Sunday ? and our Septic Tank was backing up. I called Doctor Rooter to see if they could come by and to my amazement they helped us out even though they don?t pump septic tanks. The person I spoke to gave me the name of two companies that handle septic tanks and I was able to get someone on the first call. I would not have known where to start if it wasn?t for DR. I am very impressed with how nice they were and really helpful even though they weren?t going to make anything on the call. That is the sign of a truly professional company. Thank you very much for the help. I?ll be sure to call DR for all our future plumbing needs!!

Overall, the service was performed as well as it could have been given the location and severity of the blockage. The workmanship was professional and persistent to resolve the problem. The underlying issue is the four occupants of the connected condominium have never really cleared the pipes / drains previously and the residue has built up down the line which, hopefully, is now the condominium association's problem. The Techs were helpful in trying to establish that the problem is outside the scope of the occupants; and that is most helpful and, we think, an honest and fair assessment of the problem
Description of Work: The first tech came and tried to snake the drain (the last in the line of 4 condominiums) which failed to clean the line the cost of that service was not charged because we ordered a hydro-jet service. A second tech (supervisor) came promptly with the hydro-jet which was to cost $695.00. The two techs tried 3 or 4 times to completely clear the line but at 30 feet hit a blockage that would not clear. Given that the work could not be warranted, they reduced the charges to $300.00 and provided an invoice that may be useful with the condominium association to have the line ultimately cleared. Cheers Claude Thouret, Jr.

Our kitchen drain would back up every time we ran the water and then take several minutes to drain. I tried Drano and snaking it myself but it still refused to clear. I called Doctor Rooter after a good Angie's List review and they said they could do it that day. The worker was on time, asked for a description of the problem, and quoted me a price up front. He brought in a power snake and got to work. After running it through a full 75 feet (15 would have reached the outside of my house) he cleaned up and ran the water. Everything ran fine, so I'm pleased with the service.

Excellent -- I would certainly call them again and even request Mark.
Description of Work: My kitchen sink/garbage disposal was clogged. I called and got a nextday appointment (which was fine with me - no emergency for me). Mark came out at the time scheduled, was very polite and professional. He immediately got to work snaking the drain - which was an issue, because of the way the pipes under the sink were configured. He actually had to take the garbage disposal out and take an elbow off the drain. He worked for a long time - as the clog was way down the line. He eventually found the clog and treated it. At that time I asked for him to re-configure the drain - which he said he certainly would (in case in the future we had any issue - this would make it easier to get to. He re-installed the garbage disposal. He was very pleasant through this whole process ( I even had cleaning people out that had to work around him). He was very pleasant - even when they were cleaning right there where he was working. I feel this probably took longer then anticipated - but you would never know with Mark's attitude. He was great.

I just kicked out of my property (a little after 10 a.m. today) George , the owner, for rude, unprofessional and aggressive behavior. This man was so unprofessional that he did not even give his name when I shook his hand and introduced myself. I just found out his name by calling the company office just a few minutes before writing this review. After shaking George?s hand, I walked him to the garage and handed him a copy of the approved bathroom plan. He immediately told me that he would not be able to give me a quote because the bathroom was not framed out yet. I found his reasoning very strange and puzzling for many reasons. First, other plumbing contractors have given me price quotes for the job already. They did not seem to have a problem with basing their quote on the professionally-prepared and town-approved bathroom plan. Other contractors such as framing, masons and electrical contractors were also able to give me quotes based on the plan. Secondly, as a business owner who has had experience with build-outs and leasehold improvements, I know that contractors do give out quotes based on plans. As a matter of fact, most of them use the plan for their estimates. I also know that the framing need not be built yet in order for any contractor to give a price. George, however, insisted that he can?t give a price because nothing has been built yet. I told him that other plumbers and other trade contractors have already given me a price for the job. He then proceeded to tell me that Angie?s List is a listing for specific services such as plumbers. He also told me that he was very expensive because he was the best. I?m not sure why he would utter such nonsense but I can only surmise that he was suggesting that the quotes I received were not from legitimate plumbers. I told him that all the other plumbers and other contractors came from Angie?s List. He then asked me for the price quotes that the other plumbing contractors had given me. At this point, it became obvious that George was playing a game. I told him that I was not going to give him the price quotes of the other plumbing contractors. I also told him that there was no point in continuing the meeting since he was not going to give me a quote anyway. He then raised his voice and proclaimed that he is the plumber with the highest A-rating in Angie?s List. I told him that there are other plumbers with A-ratings in the list. That seemed to agitate him even more because he raised his voice and moved towards me in an aggressive manner while making the same proclamation. I guess he thought that he was going to intimidate me with his height and overweight size but I am not one who cowers to bullies At this point, I moved towards him to show that his bully tactic was not going to work. I demanded him to leave my property immediately. I told him that he was very obnoxious and unprofessional. He actually had the audacity to accuse me of being the unprofessional one for not having the bathroom framing done before calling him in for an estimate! I am still shocked at what happened. While this was not my first experience with an aggressive contractor, George was certainly the first one to become aggressive over a price quote that was not even forthcoming. I just don't understand why this man behaved so reprehensibly.
Description of Work: No services were performed since I just needed an price quote. However, my overall experience with meeting the owner at my property was awful, to say the least. Please read my overall review.

We have used Dr. Rooter twice recently for plumbing issues. First was when we had an odor in the bathroom and we were concerned. We called Dr. Rooter and a very friendly person picked up the phone immediately. She said Kevin would come that same day (a Sunday I think). He came right on time. When he investigated the issue he said he asked if we had used the shower in the bathroom for a while and we didn't. He said the water evaporated and was letting the fumes from the pipe come in through the drain. He just ran the water and that solved the problem. It has been fine since. We also had him snake 2 drains and give us some estimates on other repairs we were thinking of. I like that he gave us estimates right away and was giving us ideas to help us save money. I also thought he might charge us extra for coming on a Sunday but he didn't. The price I thought was reasonable. The second time we called him our toilet was running and leaking. Again, a friendly person answered the phone immediately and scheduled an appointment for the next day. Kevin came right on time. He was also very considerate to be very quiet as our son was napping. He said our toilet was from 1962 and they don' t make the all the parts any more and we may need to replace it. On further inspection, he replaced the parts he could and was able to fix it. It has solved the problem and he thought we may be able to hold off replacing the toilet for a year or more. We have been very happy with the service from Kevin.

They were very responsive, punctual and professional, and did a great job. I would definitely recommend and use them again. The only thing was I thought the price on the new water heater installed was a bit higher than I had expected, otherwise everything else was an 'A' grade ...
Description of Work: I noticed water leaking near my water heater/furnace area on q wednesday night. Given that my water heater was 18 years old, I decided to have it replaced. I had used Dr Rooter's services before to replace all my 18-yr old toilets and they had done a great job, so I called them up on Thursday to see if they could replace my water heater, and they were there the next day to replace my old water heater with a new 50Gal Bradford-White model. Responsiveness was great (they had even offered to come the same night I had called !), the fellow that showed up was the same guy (Brian) who had replaced my toilets, and once again he did a great job of removing the old water heater and installing the new one, with new up to code copper fittings. He even re-installed my April Air Humidifier connection to the cold water pipe, and also replaced some old valves with new ones.

I was happy with the work overall, they were prompt and professional, and the replacement toilet seems to be quite good. Only issue was the price seemed a bit higher than I expected, but I would still use them again for other plumbing jobs.
Description of Work: Replaced downstairs toilet. Downstairs toilet kept backing up. First I thought it might be the sewage line. Called Doctor Rooter (based on Angie's list ratings & reviews), they came on time within a day or so, checked the toilet & line, concluded that it was the toilet (it was a builder's special badly designed cheap toilet used in most condo's and townhouses, and quite old). I asked them to replace it with a good basic reliable toilet, they recommended an American Standard Cadet 3. They came back 2 days later (on time) and installed the new toilet. The installation was done fast and done well with no mess, and they took the old toilet away as well. The work was done about a 6 weeks ago and everything seems to be very good so far, no more issues with toilet backing up now. The toilet flushes much faster since it has a larger 3" diameter water flush hole (I'm not sure of the technical name), and is quiet when filling up. I was happy with the work, but the price seemed a bit higher than I expected. I would use them again for other plumbing jobs.

True to their Angie's list listings, this company was very professional and top notch. I called to have a leak investigated in my basement that was coming from some duct work. The gentleman, Joe came and was very cordial and professional. He immediately investigated the source of the leak and advised me that it was caused by a frozen and clogged condensation line within my a/c unit. After turning on the heat to defrost the line, the line was unclogged and the leak disappeared. He quoted my the price and told me what he would have to do and with my agreement, he proceeded to defrost the line and advised me what to do in the future to avoid this type of problem, ie., have my freon levels checked. I was very happy with the technician as he was very knowledgeable and cordial and did not talk down to me because I was a woman. He explained everything in sensible terms and did such a neat and clean job that you cannot tell that anything had been wrong in the area. I applaud Doctor Rooter, technician Joe and the excellent lady who took my order, D.S. as this made this an anxiety free fix. The front desk lady is exceptionally pleasant and knowledgeable and cordial and sealed the deal as I started to contact area plumbers in order to service this leak. I like them because they were honest, did not try to make a mountain out of a molehill and perform the work pleasantly with no surprises and/or clauses. Keep up the good work.

Description of Work: Called for an estimate to have another sump pump installed in my basement. Kevin was extremely professional and helpful. He told me that my current pump was all I need and even gave me some tips on how to keep more water away from my house. When I called yesterday (Labor Day) I received a return call within minutes of leaving a message. I was given a 2 hour window between 9 and 11 this morning as to when the plumber would arrive. We experienced a sewage backup in the downstairs bathroom. Doctor Rooter came within an hour of the call and scoped the line with a camera and found a broken main discharge line just outside the foundation going to the septic tank. The line was snaked and cleared with an estimate given for line replacement. We scheduled a replacement date and Doctor Rooter came on time and completed the work giving a complete explanation of the work done. The work was done neatly and within the estimate cost.

The company responded quickly. they came the same day. He ascertained problem quickly and gave us an estimate of $546.75 to install new float switch and clean pit. We agreed even though it seemed to be a lot of money. We set a date for the work to be done. My husband researched the part we needed on the internet. Every website he visited quoted the price of the part between $44.00 and $49.00. Imagine our surprise at the mark up here. When the work was actually done it took about 20 minutes. This is a colassal rip off. To prove the company's guilt of highway robbery my husband complained to the seviceman, who then promptly called his boss. His boss told him to take $50.00 off the bill and throw in a container of something called Bio Clean which they claimed was a $100.00 value. It is a shame that this company is such a rip off because the work was quickly and neatly and their promptness was fine. But it is definietly not worth paying so much for a $44.00 part and 20 minutes of labor.

We have two reports on Angies for Doctor Rooter because we originally had them in for just an estimate and weren't sure we were going to use them, but after several estimates we are very grateful we did. To start with we could not use our septic system - no toilets, no showers and not dish washing, we were in emergency mode. Honestly, as a consumer it becomes very difficult today to find an contractor to come into your home for the big ticket items...like septic and be comfortable with them especially if you are under pressure. We called for several estimates, two included $4,000 - $7,000 to dig up our our two seepage tanks and have new rock beds put around them, another estimate was given to us without even coming out to see the job - just from a verbal conversation with us over the phone. We reviewed the estimates and by early afternoon we chose Doctor Rooter - they were back by mid afternoon. George's team came in and advised us not to do anything drastic at the moment and allow them time to make the repairs they thought were really needed....they immediately made us feel at ease. They came in and started the job on a Friday afternoon, but we decided we needed to empty the septic tank before Doctor Rooter could continued and agreed they should return Monday morning 9am to complete the job. Come 9am sharp Monday morning they were here - George (master plumber) and a helper, and by noon the job was completed. WOW....they came, they saw and they completed the job exactly as explained and we did NOT have to pay for work that wasn't necessary - which is always good thing. It's good when you can find an honest, knowledgable contractor to trust and needless to say, Doctor Rooter and his team will be our new family plumber...thanks guys.
