+ -1 moreDoug came out and provided an estimated in about one week from scheduling time. I had two other companies come out for estimates as well. Doug was well prepared with the pitch and knew his product well. He provided me a handwritten estimate on the spot. Once I finalized my decision, Doug provided me a formal estimate and said the work could be completed in four weeks. Further, Ed came out and measured to validate Doug's review. Roughly four weeks later, Ed and his assistant came out and installed the windows. Very professional installation and the crew cleaned up well. The nine windows tooks around 4 hours to install. The work looks very good and would definitely recommend.
Description of Work: Replaced 9 windows in total for my home. The new vinyl windows included six standard double hung windows, two small windows (non-opening), and one hopper.

+ 0 moreDoug and his team installed over 10 new windows for us and a new side door. It was a terrific experience from start to finish. Doug was super professional, clearly explained the options in terms of price and quality. We met with him in early January to sign the contract and order the windows, then they were installed about 3 weeks later. His installer, Ed, and his team, worked really quickly and diligently. They showed up early and worked hard. The whole installation project tookless than 2 days. And they were friendly. Would strongly recommend this group.
Description of Work: Replaced 13 windows and side door. Windows were 20-30 years old, encased in led trim. To avoid led exposure, they sealed from inside and replaced from outside. They replaced two of windows with casement windows that look great. They replaced our very very old side door with a steel door.

+ 0 moreTwo of Doug's workers came to do the install. Both men worked diligently to remove the old windows and door and within a couple of hours had completed the job. The only issue we ran into was that my old screen door would not fit back in place after installing the new exterior one. This was due to the fact that the old screen door had to be adjusted previously to fit around the old door itself. Since the new door was more of a factory design fit, it sort of made sense that the old one would not line up. Anyway, I had the men take it away, since it was useless at this point. I wasn't thrilled to not have a screen door espeically in the summer when I have family constantly going in and out to access the deck and backyard. Although the new door is sturdy and well-designed, I still needed that extra layer of protection from the outside elements. I decided to call Doug the next day to ask about a screen door to match the new exterior door design I just got. We discussed by phone, and he sent me to the website to see the door itself. I ordered and confirmed with Doug via e-mail and got my new screen door a few weeks later. One of the men who came the first time came back and installed the screen door, and I am happy to have my extra layer of protection. Overall, I think both jobs went extremely well.
Description of Work: I first contacted Windows Direct back in late September 2012 for an appointment for an estimate on a couple of windows and exterior back door. I had windows on the first floor of my home that were either outdated and/or leaking air into my home. My backdoor entryway is an irregular size due to the fact that it is attached to a room that was an add on. It constantly leaked air and of course was making it difficult to retain heat during the fall/winter months which in turn was costly. I was first impressed that Doug, the owner came to my home to provide the estimate himself. He took his time to explain the various window and door options available. I finally narrowed my choices down to what were the most troubling spots for me and decided to replcae the kitchen window, the dining room window and of course the back door. It took a approximately two weeks when I was notified by Doug's office that the windows and door were in and they just needed a date for me to come install which was just a couple of days later. I was surprised on how quick it took to get, but I found out that Doug had placed a rush on the order. That was perfect since it was about to get cold and did not want to go through another costly winter.

+ 0 moreDoug came over and walked us through their offerings, the doors and windows look great and I can already feel an improvement in terms of the heating, I'm expecting the same when it's boiling hot in the summer. Installation was a couple of days work, performed by nice and knowledgeable guys and who were in and out. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to replace doors and windows. It's not cheap, although I feel like we got a good deal with Doug, so if you want Home Depot windows, this is not the company for you.
Description of Work: We had a bay window and 3 exterior doors replaced. Our bay window was old and drafty and our exterior doors were in need of a face-lift!

+ 2 moreDoug Conner, owner of Universal Windows Direct of NJ, is extremely reliable and trustworthy. This is our second work order for him. He replaced a couple of our windows two years ago and this year he replaced partial siding after damage incurred from hurricane Sandy. Doug is meticulous in his business, the receipts are mailed promptly, follow up is prompt, work is done well and there is no debris left behind. In our most recent experience, I can say the same things again. After we scheduled an appointment with him, Doug arrived at the scheduled time and brought a lot of samples with him. He spent a lot of time going over the various choices for our siding, especially because the new siding had to match the existing siding on the rest of the house. With his help we were able to choose a siding which was as close of a match as we could possibly get. Once the order was placed, the materials arrived within a week or two. Shutters took some extra time to come. We were not home when the work was done, but we were not concerned about the quality of his work. His crew did a great job in removing the older insulation, putting the new siding and insulation and matching it up with the older siding. As mentioned before, the work was done neatly and efficiently. The clean up was efficient. What we also like about Doug is that he is very prompt with follow up actions and any follow up requests we may have. I wish all contractors are like him. I would highly recommend him to any other customers. It is a pleasure to do business with him.
Description of Work: During hurricane Sandy, siding (approx 23 feet x 12 feet) above the garage area was ripped off and couple of shutters were blown off in the strong winds. The aluminum flashing on the soffit also sustained damage and had to be replaced. Our main concern was that replacement siding should be a close match to the existing siding. Doug and his crew removed the old siding and insulation beneath, replaced it with new insulation and siding. The shutters were replaced and a new aluminum coil was installed.

+ -1 moreThe whole process was quite simple. I found Doug on Angies List and was quite pleased with the reviews. As mentioned above, he came to our house for the initial appointment, gave us a quote, window education and assisted us in making the best choice for window type. He listened to our concerns and was available during the whole process to assist us with these concerns. The entire installation process was easy - we didn't face any problems. The installer and his helper were very professional and thorough in cleaning up afterwords. I like the 30 year warranty that comes with the windows (which is also transferrable) if/when we were to sell our house. Overall, we were very pleased and are very happy with the windows we purchased.
Description of Work: I had a total of nine windows installed. My house is 90 years old so I was very meticulous about "how" the windows were going to be installed. Doug came to our house initially to look at the windows that needed to be replaced (which were quite old), sat down with us and gave us an education on window types so my husband and I could make the best educated decision on type, style, etc. of windows we wanted to purchase and have installed. He showed up at our house on the date/time we scheduled (I love promptness) was very professional and answered all our questions. My biggest concern was how the windows were going to be installed. We have all the original wood molding around our windows and I did not want any of it disturbed while replacing the windows. Doug put my in touch with his installer so that I could speak with him directly about my concerns. We discussed the installation process and he assured me that the molding would not be disturbed. We agreed on a date and the installer (who by the way is no contacted out, he works for the company) showed up promptly to install the windows. He started on one window, and during the install of this one window, he explained each step so that I understood exactly how they were being installed and how they would be finished. I agreed to the method which was installing all windows from the outside, and capping all the wood with aluminum. The windows look great. He did an excellent job and did not damage anything in the process. He layed tarp down around the work area as he was installing the windows and thoroughly cleaned up when he was finished. He also took all the older windoes away for disposal.The only small set-back was that one of the windows did not fit as it was measured wrong (no big deal - human error). This remaining windows was re-ordered and installed two weeks later.

We placed the order the day he met with us, and he kept us fully informed during the construction of the windows made specifically to fit the opening in each basement window being replaced. The installation team arrived the morning targeted for the work to begin. Workers were very friendly, careful to eliminate any potential damage to areas immediately adjacent to the window openings. Window removal and installation process was done very quickly. Very impressive and efficient operation! I highly recommend Universal Windows Direct of NJ.

It was clear that Ed (the installer) is an expert on windows and I felt completely at ease with him on the job. It was, simply, a pleasure dealing with Universal, from start to finish. Doug was great and a really sincere person -- not like the typical salesman. You can tell he takes pride in his company's exemplary reputation, acquired over time by delivering a great product with honesty and integrity , and he works hard to maintain it. + -1 moreThings went well with them. They were a little pushy on price but I was able to negotiate down by vying back and forth with a couple of vendors and having them compete .against each other. They were all really fudging the price a little. They were pretty high pressure in the sales as far as saying if I would sign right now. Their special price was $3,500 and I was able to get them down quite a bit from that advertised price if I signed right away. The windows are good quality; I had researched the manufacturer online. They installed them quickly and they were on time. They came when they said they would. It was weather permitting and there was one cancelation due to rain but they rescheduled right away and showed up on time. They got the work done in the timeframe they said they would. They cleaned everything up and everything went well. I would use them again.
