Unfortunately, my experience with Robert was not as positive as I had hoped. I began to describe the problem, and about three sentences in he abruptly stopped me with "Sir, if you could let me talk." He then then pointed out in a scolding tone "... then you don't have a furnace, sir, you have a boiler." He said he was not feeling well, but that is really not an excuse for talking to a potential new customer that way. He declined to make an appointment, as he will not work on steam heating systems (which is fine, I don't hold that against him). He also did not have any recommendations, as "no one works on those any more." There are quite a few older homes in the area, and you often see steam heat listed in real estate listings, so I presume I will find someone.

Response from R & L Mechanical LLC
Member, called me and told me he had drianed his furnace and refilled it and was having problems with it leaking ect and it was a lot more then three sentences, I could not get one word in when Member started talking and I tried to interupt him politely but he just kept on then when he stop then I told him, he didn't have a furnace he had a boiler then as the conversation went on come to find out it is a steam system that are in older house's, I also told him I have not work on a steam system in some time and didn't feel comfortable working on his system, so no appointment was made and when he asked me if I knew anyone that work on them I told him I didn't and I don't, not nobody doesn't work on them anymore. One issue I have with this is when people that know nothing about what kind of heating system they have in their house start flushing these very old steam systems for some reason and get them selfs in trouble then call you. I have been placed in this postion before and it happened this past summer with an A/C condenser all the wiring hanging out becasue the home owner had a so called friend that said he knew how to fix the problem and left me with a bunch wiring hanging but the home owner said he wouldn't be upset if I walked away from that problem i told him just give me some time and guess what I fixed it and both parties were happy. And mybe from having bronchitis for 2 weeks my voice sounds scolding I can't help that, I had to put off a lot appointments due to this, I don't want to get anyone sick so I guess that makes me a bad person. But anyway I really don't replay to this kind of stuff but I'm tired of a few people trying to bash me for just telling them the truth, I help out a lot of people with any informantion I can give them and a lot of times they get it done with out me even showing up because it something they over looked try that with another company and I also have the best pricing. So Good Luck Member sorry you I couldn't help you

R and L Mechanical did an outstanding job! We are very pleased with our unit and new duct work, and everything runs smoothly. Bob's in-depth knowledge of what needed to be done, was first class. Amongst all the other H VAC companies we reviewed, His quote was the best for the amount of work called for, especially with the duct work. They worked quickly, neatly and professionally, within a given time frame, and were willing to answer any of our questions -- making sure we got what we needed. I highly recommend this company. They know exactly what they are doing.
Description of Work: Complete Heating and A/C job, including the addition of a regular humidifier. All the duct work was done: cutting and removing most of the old ducts, cutting in the supplies and returns, cutting the old 5” flex back and adding 7 x 5 “ reducers as well as adding 7” flex's to already existing 5” flex's with collars with dampers.

Our central air system developed a leak on Friday evening Labor Day weekend. I selected R and L Mechanical . I spoke to Bob the owner and told him the problem. He said he would be there early Saturday morning. Bob showed up right on time, and repaired the system. His price was very reasonable. I would not hesitate to use him for any future work and would recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Cut out bad site glass from ac high pressure line. Replaced and soldered in quarter inch copper pipe. evacuated system checked for leaks, and filled system with R22.

AS you can read from above Bob and Ray from day one were right on the money every time. He kept to his word thru-out the entire process from setting up the estimate , calling when he said he would and arriving on time every time. There were no hidden surprises along the way either. Fantastic to deal with !!!!!!!!!!!!! All contractors should take lessons from R & L Mechanical LLC.
Description of Work: I had a 30 year old Comfortmaker Central Air Unit which was on it's way out ( after 30 years of service it's time to say AMEN). I called Bob from R & L for a estimate on replacing the central air unit as well as the air handler. I got his voice mail at first and within an hour he was back to me setting up a date to come down and take a look. The date was set and he called the day before to see if all was still as planned. The next day he again called to confirm and as planned arrived on time. Let me say that thru this entire agreement Bob was always on the time he stated. If he said 8:00 am you could bet your boots he was there. Bob and his assistant Ray were true pros on all levels. He looked at my unit accessed what needed to be done and told me straight up that he would e-mail with the estimate the next morning. Before noon the next day he wrote a detailed proposal replacing the unit, electric box, air handler, condenser pump and taking all the old stuff with him. The work was to take 3 days, day one the rip out then day two most of the install and day three to finish up. Well just as he stated he was true to his word. I agreed at the price given ( $6,000.00) told him I would have the money in about a month to which I would call to set up. The money came in and I called Bob to set up a date we agreed on the date, sent him the check for half the job then as planned he came on the date and arrived on time . Bob gave me the option since it was so hot that he could rip out the stuff tonight and we would have no A/C or just deliver all the new equipment take all the measurements and start off very early the next morning. I took option "B" and enjoyed A/C for that evening. The next morning Bob and Ray arrived on time and put in 11 solid hours of work. I offered to go and get lunch and both men were fine. I offered water or soda and again they were fine. They must have had a cooler for I let them do their work so I wasn't a bother to them. Just to show you what kind of people they both are, I was having a garage sale at my house that day. Bob got a phone call from his wife in Brick stating that they were getting hit with sheets of rain. Bob and Ray came to me and told me about the weather in Brick and helped me bring all the garage sale stuff back into the garage and then went back to work. They got to my house at 7:00 am and left a little past 6:00 pm. Bob stated he would come at 8:00 am the next morning and once again as planned arrived on time. He and Ray finished up and went thru everything they had done. As Bob was going thru what they had done he asked me what temperature the thermostat was set on, I said that i have a gauge type unit so it could be 69 to 72 degrees . Bob got up went to his truck and then installed a Honeywell Programmable Thermostat for me. I had already written the check for the remainder of the work ($ 3,000. 00 at start and $ 3,000.00 when done). I asked him what I owed him for the new thermostat and he said forget about it. I can't say enough how great these two men were. DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL ON BOB IF YOU NEED THIS TYPE OF WORK DONE..

Air conditioning unit stopped working during a heat wave. Telephoned R&L Mechanical LLC, and spoke with Bob. Bob indicated that he would arrive by noon, and showed up around 11:00 a.m. This was fantastic, as the outside temperature had already reached 90 degrees. Bob was very methodical during his evaluation and found that the circuit board needed replacement. Manufacturer parts for my unit are not readily available, however Bob willingly contacted a distributor and was able to obtain what was needed. I was quoted a price, and Bob left to get the part. Bob installed the part according to the manufacturer's schematic attached/printed on the unit, even though intuitively he thought the schematic was wrong. Bob was right, the diagram from the manufacturer is wrong, and this resulted in damage to the part. Bob then travelled back to the distributor to again purchase the part, and upon return using his professional knowledge and insightful expertise, installed the circuit board and transformer properly. As the consummate professional Bob added freon to the unit, checked the airflow in the home, educated me about the vents / returns, and charged the original price quote. Honest, Professional, Hard-working and Fair Prices -- Highly recommend R&L Mechanical

We set up the dates for the installation based on both of our schedules, which happend to be Friday evening and Saterday morning. Bob and his assistant Ray arrived ontime Friday, removed all the old equipment and dropped off the new. they also flushed the lines and installed the new coil and braker box. The next day Bob and Ray arrived on time. After working for about four and a half hours my house was cooler then its ever been. Just in time for the next heatwave. They didn"t leave as much as a crumb of debris. The work was neat and professional. Bob even registered my equipment online for me to insure the 10 year warranty.
Description of Work: During the heatwave preceeding the July 4th holiday , my central air unit stoped cooling. I found R&L Mechanical on Angie"s list. Bob came by the day before the forth and tried to revive my old GE unit which was already pretty old when I bought my house twentytwo years ago, but alas, the compressor had died. Bob informed me that they didn,t make parts anymore for thirty plus year old GE"s. I asked Bob for an estimate on a replacement. He said he would get back to me, which he did, with some prices on various models that I had expressed intrest in. I decided on a 3.5 tone Goodman plus an upflow coil with a hightemp drianpan since it sits atop an oil furnace. He also said he needed to flush out the lines of the old r22 coolent, replace the outside disconect box and whip and redo the pvc for the drain.

We purchased a house that was a real fixer-upper and needed to install central air conditioning system, as there was no central AC. We received about 5 quotes from all different vendors. Bob came over, spent time explaining everything, was affordable and the most important HE DID NOT COMPROMISE ON THE QUALITY. He is "my way or highway" kind of guy. But that's great, he knows what he is doing and doesn't cut corners. Other vendors tried to limit ac supplies and ac returns to cut cost, Bob did not. He didn't even ask us how many supplies or returns we would like, he's an expert so he made a decision. That's exactly what we were looking for. The great thing is that he also cares about esthetic, visual look of the installation. After units were installed, we wanted to call him for service for first couple of days, as we thought that upstairs unit does work good enough, it was just too quiet :) but it was cooling the place so we didn't call. Until today, we can't tell if units are on or off, but it's nice and cool. I guess it has something to do with air flow. We love the job Bob did for our new house!

I had a problem with the AC condenser and I called Bob at 8:00 this morning. He returned my call within 20 minutes and arrived at the house by 9:40 AM. Bob found the problem quickly and repaired it within the hour, for which I was extremely grateful because of the heat wave we're in. He was great to deal with and very fair in the cost of the repair. I plan to call him back to work on the furnace. I'm also thinking about having the AC ductwork upgraded, as well as replacing the attic fan, and he will be the one I call. I would recommend him to everyone.

Overall, I could not be happier about Robert and his work, or my first experience using Angie's List. Robert of R & L Mechanical is the owner and technician. I found him on Angie's List while searching for a new HVAC contractor since my previous HVAC company tried to over charge me by $1000.00 - a total price of $5000.00-- for the exact same work and product. Since my primary residence is in Virginia, I often have to remotely arrange for maintenance or repairs at my home on the shore in New Jersey. I called Robert and he returned my call witin a few hours. I explained my situation and he agreed to inspect the AC unit which was not working well. He confirmed the need for replacement and quoted me a fixed price. He sent me a contract and asked for 1/2 downpayment. I agreed and sent the money and later met him at the house. Robert peformed the work within the week and also noted that some duct work was disconnected. He also agreed to remove an old furnace and hot water heater littering the lower level crawl space and dispose of them. I met him again at the house the following weekend and verified that the work was completed. It was all done, professionally, well fited and sealed. Robert (Bob) was always responsive and straight forward. I found him to be completely honest and trustworty with my property, and have retained him for future maintenance or repairs

Everything was done quickly and efficiently at a good price. I then decided to replacethe entire furnace and duct work. R&L did the work within 2 weeks and did an excellent job. R&L was always on time and always returned telephone calls or emails very fast. I have already recommended them to some of my neighbors and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I noticed an F review and wonder how this is possible. The reviewer said they did not respond; I find this to be unbelievable. I would give R&L Mechanical and A++ if that was available.

Bob was pleasant enough during our initial and only visit. But failed to ever contact me again.
Description of Work: Bob showed up on a Friday after a lack of communication on both parts. Examined existing A/C system located in the attic which I wanted replaced. Was advised he would call back on the following Monday with an estimate for a new system. I was left no literature and never received a call back or follow up after nearly 2 weeks. Obviously I would never recommend his services especially with no contact after initial visit.

I had estimates for a new air condition and furnace from several different companies, ranging from $6000 to $10,000 dollars. I called Bob for an estimate. When he came over he said he wanted to see if he could repair the unit before giving me an estimate. He spent over 4 hours working on the air conditioner and was able to repair it. Total cost $175 dollars. He was determined and pleasant to deal with.He was the only contractor who took the time to try and repair the unit . Everyone else just wanted to sell me a new air conditioner and furnace. When I need a new air conditioner and furnace I will call Bob and you should too. He felt he could repair the unit and did not stop until the job was done!

Went great.. completed work immediately - totally reliable!!
Description of Work: Had a leak in the tray that the central air conditioning unit sits on in the attic - Called Bob, he determined what the problem was and fixed right away. Then i mentioned to him about how my bedroom is not as cool as the rest of the house and he went up in the attic and said if i put a return in the bedroom it would cool it better so i had him do that and he was right. He also changed out the old fiberglass ductwork for my AC unit (which was making my house very dusty) and replaced it with sheeting. He has helped me out w/ countless other jobs here and there - always answers his phone, always reliable, professional and a really nice guy to boot!! Call him!!

He came over the next day right on time. I could tell right away that he knew the work inside and out so we set a price and he started work.He took great pride in his work, and is clearly one of the best skilled contractors I ever met. I really should have replaced my system years ago. The system he put in is Great! Thank you so much R & L Mechanical!!!!
Description of Work: My 23 year old furnance and air conditionioning system gave out and the critical replacement parts (I checked myself) were not available anywhere. This was going to be a real big job and I contacted several HVAC companies that advertise in the local home improvement journals. Concerned with the $9500 to $18,000 preliminary estimates which "could go up if the job needed more" (yes, that's right-some people bid for all they can get), I talked to friends that had success with Angie's list. I found out that R & L Mechanical was top rated so I called Bob, the owner operator.

Our A/C failure occurred in the middle of a heat wave, just before 4th of July weekend 2010. I entertained AJ Perri. Although they claim to be a family business they came across like a major corporation. A 2 hour presentation ended with a replacement estimate for an entire system (heat and A/C) of $15,000. Of course there would be rebates and tax credits which we may or may not qualify for. Then the real bad news, they could show up in 2 to 3 weeks to do the work. Enter R&L Mechanical. The one man, owner operated business, Bob was available with in days, his estimate was 1/3 the cost of the competitor. He showed up when he said he would, he got right to work, he worked until dark, in the heat. He did everything I asked, in the way of small alterations to the system, re-routing the line set, drains and duct work. The entire HVAC system was replaced, up to the duct work. The HVAC unit, an attic horizontal system, furnace and A/C coil were replaced. The condenser, line set, electrical fuse block and whip, were replaced. He cleaned up after himself. Everything worked as he said. He was concerned about out comfort and worked to meet his time estimate. We are very pleased and highly recommend R&L Mechanical for HVAC repairs and system replacement.

Owner operator. Was prompt and courteous. Knew his business. Stayed true to written estimate. Arrived on time to jobsite, worked without interuption. Estimated project, picked up unit and materials, disposed of old equipment. Was meticulous and caused no damage. Upon completion was unable to properly test as the weather was too cold. Required 65 - 70 degress outside ambient temperature. First warm day, a week later, he arrived as promised and completed final tests. Stayed in touch via phone throughout project. I wholeheartedly recommmend this company
