 + 1 moreMr. Goia's crew completed the stone wall in less than a week. They dug a shallow trench around the shrub border and put paver base in the trench. Then they alternated 4" and 8" blocks for each course. By the front walkway there was only one course. Depending upon the slope around the house, Goia's crew used two to three courses. We requested that they keep the wall level and uses additional courses of blocks, as opposed to slanting the wall as the land sloped. They cleaned up debris each day. We are very satisfied with the final outcome.
Description of Work: Installed a short block wall around the shrub beds using mixed 4" and 8" grey wall stones. The wall replaced landscape timbers that had rotted after 10-12 years. Total perimeter 150 feet.

 + 3 moreThis was the most professional and quality experience I've ever had with a contractor. From the initial inquiry to the final clean-up, Gil was promptly and politely responsive, knowledgeable and thorough. And he really paid attention to our requirements and concerns. One important requirement was that the work be done all at once; not on again/off again (as some contractors do). Gil had a skilled and courteous team working every day (including Saturdays) until the job was finished, and they put in full days. They also cleaned up every day. At the end of each day, Gil checked the work that was done. The final result was striking; you couldn't tell what had been fixed, it all looked fresh and original - and the charming characteristics of the house's era (e.g., some curved plaster edges where ceilings met walls) were faithfully restored. He also did some extras, without charging, because he wanted the rooms to look especially nice. Goias Home Improvement had been highly recommended by a friend so I had high expectations; Gil and Goias exceeded those expectations!
Description of Work: In 7 rooms and 3 long hallways, in an 85 year old house: repaired cracks (some quite deep) in old plaster, spackled, skin-coated where necessary, put up dry wall where required, sanded, primed and painted walls, ceilings and some trim. We were preparing the house for inspection before a sale and needed quality work done.

 + 7 moreWe contracted Mr. Ricardo to do a major renovation of my parents home, which while structurally sound had fallen into disrepair due to their illness. We found Mr. Ricardo through Angie's List, and he had done some minor work on the house previously. We were very impressed with his demeanor and especially his professionalism. When we committed to undertake this significant renovation, Mr. Ricardo was our first choice as contractor. The job took approximately five months and he was with us every step of the way. He was always available to answer our questions in a pleasant and professional manner. We live out of state but we were entirely comfortable with him having full access to the house without our presence. Mr. Ricardo assisted and advised us on materials and appliances in order to get maximum value for our investment and generally went above and beyond what was expected in all areas of the job. While we probably could have paid less to have the work done we always felt Mr. Ricardo's pricing was fair. Everything was carefully explained to us before the job was started, and we got exactly (and in some cases, more) than we paid for. In particular, he was able to completely renovate our kitchen for a very attractive price. Mr. Ricardo consulted with us to ensure we stayed within budget, and offered his suggestions in a respectful and low key fashion. This was a big and expensive undertaking for us, but Mr. Ricardo made it as stress free as possible. He is a dignified and trustworthy professional in addition to being an excellent craftsman. I am proud to call Mr. Ricardo a friend and am pleased that I can recommend he and his company without hesitation.

 + 3 moreOur 1930s home had a flat roof that was leaking. It may well have been the original roof - there were many built up layers of tar. To make matters more interesting, our home is attached - our neighbor's garage and our garage meet. Most of the roofers we met with refused to do the job, saying that either they didn't do residential flat roofs, or that they couldn't warrant the work because our neighbor's roof could cause leaking after the new roof was installed. No commercial roofer wanted to do it either. We finally got two bids, both of comparable price. We agreed to hire Goias. There were some change orders, including some electrical work and repairing some stucco that had been water damaged. Gil was always very good at explaining the work that needed to be done and why the changes were necessary. Eddy was in charge of the worksite and the 5-6 guys they had on site. The men they hired were very pleasant and polite, although none of them spoke English so sometimes it was hard to communicate with them if Eddy or Gil were not there. The guys did a great job! They took off the roof down to the original oof, then got rid of all the debris and they put up a new membrane roof. It was hot, yucky work in the middle of the summer. We had some problems scheduling, due to the rainy weather. Their estimate of how long the work would take was correct. We have had no leaks since the new roof. We would recommend Goias!

Gil and his workers always showed up on time, were responsive to my questions and requests, and left the area of work clean. In our foyer we had paneling installed that went up the stairs. The carpenter helped us decide which style to go with and was meticulous in his work. We also had the foyer painted. It has high ceilings and was not a particularly easy paint job. They did a fantastic job and it looks great. As a part of our great room renovation, we had the room painted. The job included painting in-wall bookcases and the fireplace mantel. Gil's painter again did a great job. I am a picky customer and I have to say that I was very impressed with how everything came out. We had three bedrooms painted and I am very happy with the results. We also had our hardwood floors refinished. It was a big job that required us to move out for a week while they did the work. They had to move our furniture out to the garage and to other parts of the house. We were out of town while they did the work and I completely trusted them. When we came home, we were very happy to see how the floors turned out. They don't even look like the same floors! The floors were clean and dust free. All the furniture was moved back. Overall, I recommend Goias Home Improvement. I think the quality of work and pricing was fair. The only negative I had with them was we had asked for a quote on another project (a deck remodel) and we thought it was a bit too high. But as

 + 0 moreGood overall. obviously you are going to have your issues throughout construction and gill was very responsive and professional. He uses a lot of subcontractors to do work and he has a good team of guys to do the work. We have been living in our kitchen now for 3 months and we have had no issues with anything that he did. He took his time on the construction and you can really tell as everything came out great. The bad: we wanted our kitchen done on a fairly tight timeline and it took about 5 weeks longer than anticipated. He made a couple of mistakes during construction (however he fixed them without additional cost). He is very specific... if things are not in the contract he wants to charge you with extras, so be very specific and make sure every thing is listed in the contract. I understand his position because he has to get numbers from his sub-contractors so its money out of his pocket if he was unaware the work needed to be completed (example food processor, door installation, window installation, molding, crown molding, installation of beede board, installation of back splash etc) Overall he was very easy to deal with and i felt completely safe with him in our house. He was there most days working on our house with his subcontractors.
Description of Work: Gil remodeled our kitchen for us. We had an old kitchen from the 1960's which needed to be gutted and fully remodeled. He did a great job and he was very responsive.

 + 1 moreIt took 2 phone calls to get my first response. However, no other contractors called me back. A different contractor from Angie's list called me back about 3 weeks after 2 contact phone calls, and I already hired Goias by that time. A contractor not from Angie's list told me he would come over, and never showed up! I had a small job and Gil from Goias was nice, polite, and professional as he said the size of the job did not matter. Gil sent his team over to review the work that needed to be done, and I received a phone call a day or two later with the estimated price to complete. I agreed to have the work done because no one else had called me back as I stated. So I don't know if I overpaid or underpaid or paid a fair price. But to me, the fact that they came out knowing it was a small job and willing to do the work was good enough for me. They delivered the hardwood flooring on the day they said they would. And they returned a week later to complete the job. Eddie's team did the work and they were very professional and polite. And when they arrived they started the work immediately; they did not futz around wasting any time. And the job was completed in a manner of just a few hours. There were no surprises on the final price as it matched the estimate. The men also made sure to clean up all the mess that was made. I would definitely hire these folks again.
Description of Work: The contractor had to remove portions of subfloor, replace subfloor. Also had to install new hardwood flooring and replace trim and caulk and paint the trim that was replaced.

 + -1 moreHave an old electric downdraft cooktop in a center island that does operate consistently. Wanted to replace it with a modern gas cooktop and downdraft. Goias Home Improvement was very responsive in attempting to do this. The project required not only selecting a cooktop and downdraft system, but replacing the countertop, running a new gas line, changing the electric service from 220v to 110v and modifying the cabinet. Goias brought in plumbing personnel, ducting personnel, electricians and recommended an appliance supplier to attempt to accomplish this. Unfortunately our center island is very narrow limiting our options for equipment. As we did not want to expand the project into replacing cabinetry and rearranging the kitchen we decided to take a different direction.
Description of Work: Provided plans and estimates to replace an old electric cooktop with a new gas cooktop.

Description of Work: Project-reattach 16' of base cabinets to the wall in the kitchen following Sandy. The ground floor was exposed to water that did not damage the cabinets due to their quality and the fact that they were installed only 6 months. The cabinets were sprayed for mold and dried. approximate 1' foot of insulation and drywall was replaced behind the cabinets that the contractor did not ask to see as the cabinets were in front. I explained to the contractor that one wall at the end of the kitchen was not totally square and the cabinets had been originally set with that situation without a problem. I also added to the job with the replacement of 4 interior doors. All work was labor only as materials were on site. The contractor quoted $1,100 which was more than the entire kitchen uppers and lowers on three walls had cost. I went back to them and asked for a costing of just the cabinets. After waiting almost a week for their response I chased them for an answer. They responded that they had changed their minds about doing the job and would not do the work due to potential problems that may happen. They advised that the cabinets might have issues being expose to water and bloat when in the heating season. I responded that we had already been through a winter heating season without issue. They said that the walls were not straight that I advised in the first instance before they quoted initially. I regret that my experience with this contractor has been very unsatisfactory. In my stance it was the contractor that refused the job rather than the other negative review based on their apparent belief that they did not have the skill level to do the work without problems. It is probably a good thing they refused.

Gil came by, talked to us about our options and his colleague (can't recall his name) came and worked for what seemed like all day to get all the tile down. The following day, he applied the grout. The finished product is beautiful. And the thing that most impressed us is we became aware the day before that the job would be somewhat more extensive than initially thought; not a lot more, but it would require a little more work. He could have nickled & dimed me but he kept the estimate where it was. That was a nice gesture and it's good to see someone that understands having a good go-to home improvement contractor is a long-term thing. Gil will be at the top of my list for now on!
