The overall experience was excellent! Aaron Hunt was our installer and he arrived at our house around 9am and worked non-stop for five hours until he was finished around 2pm. He removed our old screen and sliding glass door, replaced the frame, and installed the new screen and sliding glass door. When he was removing our old frame, he noticed a pocket full of ants, so he asked if we had any ant spray and he took care of that problem for us. He even offered to vacuum our family room area where he had been working during the day. He was very professional and went above and beyond what we expected. I would definitely use Omaha Door and Window in the future and would request to have Aaron Hunt as our installer!
Description of Work: We had a new sliding glass door installed off of our family room leading to our deck. We had the exact same door installed about two years ago in our basement leading to our patio.

I wasn’t there when they did the work but my tenant was, I did all the co-ordination, and contacted them initially. I talked to them about it, asked them some questions, and they gave me some quotes for garage door openers. I selected the appropriate one and they worked from there. They were very professional, timely, and they were all excellent. Right from the secretary who first picked up the phone, to the sales rep that called me and walked me through the process, they made buying a garage door as easy as it could be. The fact that they came out and inspected the job site first, which took about fifteen or twenty minutes, allowed them to be perfectly prepared for when they came out to do the actual garage door. They didn’t have to run back to the shop for parts or anything, they didn’t run into any unknowns, and they were done in a little more than forty five minutes, they were fast and efficient. It’s a family business, and they have been around for a long time, they were in business when I lived there almost twenty years ago.
Description of Work: Omaha Door & Window Co, Inc. installed a new LiftMaster garage door opener. They checked out the existing garage door trap to make sure it was compatible and good to go.

I first called to get some of the windows in my home replaced and ended up loving the work that the installer Aaron did that i had the rest done about a month later and a new front door put in. I requested Aaron the install the second time because of the great work he did the first time he was here at my home. Everything was done in a professional manner from getting to the house on time to the clean up.

OD&W worked closely with frame-in contractor to determine how the installation would go as enclosing the two carports was challenging due to limited height restrictions and differing widths and ground grade. Once framed in, OD&W ordered and installed the doors and door operator exactly as planned. The quality of products and installation was excellent. Personnel were friendly and professional. Cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: Provided and installed two single doors with windows to enclose two car ports. Frame in was provided by other contractor. Doors were custom made to fit unique size. One door had an operator, the other manual.

Unfortunately, because of the 6-week delay starting the project, we didn't get a chance to use the room this Fall. Soon after the room was done, it snowed in Omaha and December has been unseasonably cold! The sunroom was basically a kit from a supplier in Red Oak, IA. The workmanship of the sunroom modules and the contractor who assembled them on site was excellent. The workmen could have done a better job cleaning up at the end of the project. We also looked at the patio enclosures by Champion Window. Their product was very comparable with Omaha Door & Window in terms of quality and cost. We visited the two showrooms at least twice trying to decide. We finally selected Omaha Door because we were concerned about the number of minor assembly flaws in the patio enclosures and sunrooms on display at Champion's showroom. If their workers aren't attentive to details in their showroom displays, will they do any better at our home?
Description of Work: We originally planned to install a 3-season patio enclosure, but we decided to upgrade to a 4-season sunroom with energy efficient walls, windows and doors. The room measures 17 ft x 19 ft and was placed on an existing concrete patio which was in excellent condition. We decided not to include heating/AC, just a ceiling fan. We signed the contract with Omaha Door & Window on 8/29/2011 and were told that construction would begin the last week of Sept. However, construction did not begin until Nov. 17th because the manufacturer of the sunroom couldn't get the necessary aluminum extrusions from its suppliers. Once the contractor started, construction went quickly and the room was completed Nov. 30th. We are very happy with the sunroom. When we did the walk-around inspection with the contractor, there were a couple of items that needed followup, and they were done within 24 hrs.

My garage door had been sticking for some time on its descent, and after researching Angie's list, I decided to called Omaha Doors and Windows. The reception was very positive and friendly, and they said a technician could come by the next day (AM or PM),( which I thought was a large block of time), and would call when he was on his way. Todd called early and said he would be here around 0830 hours (which he was). When Todd arrived, he was very personable and knowledgeable. He replaced some rollers, adjusted the speed, and oiled all moving parts. What I appreciated was the information he provided about maintenance of my garage doors, which I could carry out myself (and not necessarily call a technician). This fact alone will certainly encourage me to call Omaha Doors next year when I intend to replace both garage doors with new metal ones. He suggested I raise my sensors higher from the ground to avoid moisture damage.
Description of Work: Replaced two main rollers, and oiled and lubricated all moving parts. Adjust openning and closing speed of garage door.

Our experience with Omaha Door and Window started reasonably well, took a frightening nose-dive, then finished on a positive note. Much of the experience was average to above average for large contractors. I think it would be most helpful to highlight the high and low points. We were particularly pleased with the installation team members. They worked steadily their entire time on site and were attentive to careful clean-up at the end of each day. I thoroughly appreciated that on a number of occasions, a member of the team would seek me out during parts of the installation to confirm my desires or to offer alternatives. That's not been our experience with innumerable subcontractors or installers over the years. Any requests we made, whether informational or procedural in nature, were always responded to immediately and pleasantly. On a few occasions when their work was not what I had envisioned, they didn't hesitate to make the modifications that I requested. The biggest test came when the three extra-large patio windows were removed and replaced with two custom-made picture windows. Some significant modifications to the pre-existing framing were necessary, and my wife and I were very apprehensive about how things would turn out. The results, however, were fantastic. Many times over the last several months, we have commented to each other about how pleased we are with that particular portion of their work. If there was a rating for installation quality, it would definitely receive an "A," a counterbalance to the negative effect of the sales department. Our sales experience was quite different; we were disappointed, overall. The sales rep did serve us well initially by quickly discerning what our needs were. He didn't belabor multitudinous options nor beat us into submission through an overload of tedious information. At first we were pleased. However, the omission of what we later believed to be very important information, was very disturbing. This was our first experience with replacement windows. Our original wood-frame windows were over thirty years old, and the frames themselves were moderately narrow. We had no idea how much wider the vinyl replacement window frames were going to be until installation began. Near the end of the first day, I went around and measured the change in square inches of viewable area between the old and new windows. We lost anywhere from thirty to forty percent of viewing capability, depending on the particular size of each window. My wife and I felt as though we were looking out the slits of an old castle wall compared to what we had been used to seeing. Though we eventually got used to the reduction in viewable area, it was a bitter pill to swallow. We did not appreciate the sales rep minimizing the size disparity beforehand by saying things like "the new frames will be a little bit wider," or "you won't notice much difference in frame widths." When the extra-large patio windows arrived at our house, we immediately inspected them and confirmed our looming concern: the wider vinyl frames would change the scenic view through our patio windows for the worse. The original three, floor-to-ceiling windows were separated by two narrow partitions and no essential framing (only quarter-round stops), hardly noticeable compared to the outdoor viewing area. The three vinyl replacement windows we initially contracted for had framing of such width, that when placed side-by-side almost quadrupled the effective partitions of the original configuration. It created a sense of looking through jailhouse bars, completely disrupting the outdoor view that was a hallmark of the house. We refused the installation of the windows and had to renegotiate another option with the company's operations manager after the sales rep suggested we share the financial loss of the rejected windows. We successfully contended the loss was not ours to incur because we had been misled about the significant difference the replacement windows would have on viewing our outdoor scenery. My wife had even expressed to the sales rep during his first visit how important it was to us to maintain the same viewing experience we originally enjoyed. In our minds the rep (who had decades of experience) should have brought our attention to the significance of the change in framing effect. The manager presented an alternative that the sales rep had initially said was not a viable option for the patio windows: replacing the three original windows with two similarly constructed custom-made windows (from a local manufacturer). We agreed to the alternative, at no extra cost to us, and found the results to be wonderful, as I mentioned above. All in all, we felt like the sales rep, though very pleasant to work with, had been in the business so long that he lost sight of the personal nature that home renovations are to the owners; windows shape the way I routinely see my outside world. A secondary issue that we feel the sales rep misled us in concerns the replacement vinyl sliding doors. Simply stated, the old sliding doors were heavy and did not slide very easily in their tracks. It required the weight of my body to assist the pulling motion of my arm in order to open and close both doors we have. After testing the old doors himself, the rep assured us the new "thermal glide" doors would be much easier to operate. That has not been the case. The new doors (on their new tracks) are just as difficult to slide open and close as the old doors. We're not happy about the false promise. The last issue of note has to do with the marketing information dispensed by the manufacturer and regurgitated by the sales rep. I purposely waited several months after the final installations were completed, before submitting this report, in order to make a fair evaluation of the claims that our household heating and air conditioning bills would noticeably dwindle. I have carefully reviewed my utility bills each month to note any changes in average outdoor temperatures and usage compared to last year. I've also taken into account minimal increases in utility fees year-over-year for the gas and electric services we use. Our heating and air demands have been almost identical to last year's, and we have not changed any window coverings since the installation of the new low-e, argon-filled windows. Even though many of the seals on our old wooden-frame, double-pane windows (and sliding doors) had been compromised, after installing the new windows our utility bills have only decreased very slightly, sometimes almost imperceptibly -- nothing like the marketing suggestion that we would enjoy sizeable savings after installing the new windows. In my mind, it's likely that the suggested savings are only realized in very few cases on homes much older than my 1979 dwelling. UPDATE from March 31, 2012 -- A few months after submitting my original review in September, I received a call from the company's Millwork Manager, Mike McLaughlin. He left a message informing me he had read my Angie's List review and would welcome the opportunity to inspect our two sliding doors and attempt to improve their functionality. After several days he called again, and we were able to converse about his offer. I was pleasantly surprised at his personable insistence to investigate the modest difficulties we were having with the doors. After arranging an appointment time, he and an experienced workman arrived at my house to conduct their analysis of the doors' operation. They discovered and corrected the inadvertent reversal (from the manufacturer) of the weather seals' orientation on the tops and bottoms of both doors. After also making some minor adjustments to one of the accompanying screen doors, they lubricated the sliding door tracks. The doors operated much more easily than before. As is my habit, I have waited several months to validate the effectiveness of their work. As of this writing, both doors still operate smoothly. I wasn't surprised to discover my review had been read by the staff of Omaha Door and Window, but I was surprised by their determined effort to resolve a few of the difficulties I had reported on in the review. To write a response to my original review, as they did, might take little more than marketing prowess for public consumption. To make the personal (and repeated) effort to contact the reviewer for the sake of improving their personal experience with the purchased product, is in this day and age pretty close to heroic. I can't fairly evaluate the entire company from this particular event, but as I did with the personal recognition of the installation team in the paragraphs above, I wanted to write this update to recognize Mike McLaughlin for his extraordinary service. His dedication, alone, might warrant future business with Omaha Door and Window.
Description of Work: Omaha Door and Window provided window and sliding door replacements for my residence over a three-month period, starting in late December 2010. All original doors and windows were over thirty years-old, and many of them had lost their seals. Thirteen wood-framed, double-pane, casement windows were replaced by Soft-Lite (Barrington) brand, white vinyl, double-pane, low-e, argon-filled, casement windows. Three large, wood-framed, double-pane, picture windows were replaced by Soft-Lite brand, white vinyl, double-pane, low-e, argon-filled, picture windows. Three extra-large, wood-frame, double-pane, patio (picture) windows were replaced by two custom-sized, white vinyl, double-pane, low-e, argon-filled, patio (picture) windows manufactured by Quality Glass & Mirror of Omaha. Two wood-frame, double-pane, sliding doors were replaced by Soft-Lite brand, white vinyl, low-e, argon-filled, thermal glide (sliding) doors. All replacement products have a manufacturer's U-Factor energy rating of between 0.27 and 0.30 units. While all of the replacements were measured to fill existing framing, two of the large picture windows required minor framing alterations, and the extra-large patio windows required significant frame rebuilding. The exterior sills and molding of all windows and doors were wrapped with smooth metal coil and sealed with clear Geocel caulk. The interior molding for the two sliding doors and the over-sized patio windows were replaced with unfinished wood.

Response from Omaha Door & Window
Omaha Door & Window has a commitment to giving our customers quality service and has so for over 50 years. We are happy that were able to satisfy the customer by the end of the job, but regret that it was an up and down experience and not up to Omaha Door & Window’s standards. We are glad to know that the customer was thoroughly satisfied with our installer’s excellent service and craftsmanship. We apologize that our sales rep didn’t emphasize exactly how much viewing capability would be lost with the new windows. It is our goal to meet our customers’ expectations and make sure that they know what they are getting when they do business with us. We thank the customer for bringing the issue to our attention so we can address it with our salesmen and make the appropriate changes. In regards to the energy efficiency of the customer’s new windows, many variables can impact a customer’s potential savings. This could include attic insulation, quality of the exterior doors, outside temperature variations, and wall & foundation leaks, etc. Consequently, results may very when it comes to energy savings. We are happy to know the customer was satisfied with our extensive efforts to make the necessary modifications to make sure the job was done the way he wanted it.

I called Omaha Door & Window mid-week and they had a guy come out to my house to give me an estimate a day or two later! The guy who took the measurements and gave me my quote was early, worked quickly and was professional. They were able to schedule the actual install for the following week, which was totally awesome. The employee who did the actual installation was very nice, worked quickly and seemed to be very experienced. There were some dark finger prints that he left in various areas around the door, but nothing major. Overall, a great experience.

It was a perfect case of "you get what you pay for." Our constant problems with the old system were completely solved by ODW's system operating at the proper garage door frequency. The installer was hard-working. He cleaned everything up when he was done. A true professional. We give ODW our highest rating.
Description of Work: Install two new garage doors (three car garage) and openers in 12 year old home. We had been plagued earlier by having original installation garage doors/opener from a previous vendor. That old system operated close to and interfered with the official Air Force frequency from Offutt. Despite several service calls the old vendor never got the system fixed properly. Also, the doors did not fit tightly Omaha Door & Window installed new garage doors which operated flawlessly on a completely different frequency. They fit perfectly. They were very responsive to a follow-up call for a minor system tweak.

ODW was prompt to provide a site visit for an estimate, and prompt with the subsequent proposal / catalog specs for the door. However, I found the estimated cost to be much higher than comparables, and more importantly I had a difficult time reaching the ODW estimator to follow up with questions on why his proposal was so much higher than the comps. When I finally reached him after leaving leaving prior voice mails for a week, I was prepared to hear a compelling case for higher cost with higher quality of the door, additional labor for the existing condition or some other justification. Instead, as I tried to understand where the higher cost came from (door quality, labor content, other), he answered with single word replies and offered no salesmanship. He finally replied in frustration, "that's just the cost of the door, man." Then so be it. ODW will not get my business. UPDATE from 6/17/2011 - After posting this review in May, I received a call from Mike, an ODW Manager, who apologized and asked for a chance to talk to me about our entry door needs. Mike came over at 7am to meet our schedule, and provided a compelling case for ODW's Provia doors. Mike then came back to meet my wife and discuss colors (again at 7am) and when we had a final package ready to order, Mike gave us a very competitive price. I was fully satisfied by the value Mike was offering us in the door, the service he provided throughout weeks of questions and decisions and the overall price. I will definitely do business with ODW again, as my first experience must have been a fluke - I could not ask for more from Mike or ODW.

I have been dealing with Omaha Door and Window for 20 years and have been happy in the past. My current experience was mixed. GOOD: Product and installation were excellent. BAD: I had to wait two and one/half months to get installation. With the energy credit about to end, most companies have large backlogs. The price for labor and overhead is very steep. The actual windows cost approximately $2500. $1800 was the cost for installation. The installation took seven hours. UGLY: The sales representative was going to get someone right out for the garage door since it was a small job and the parts were in. I had to call twice to get it done. It wasn't done for two months. When I asked for an explanation of the breakdown of the $1800, I had to keep making calls and sending emails for three weeks before I got an explanation. NOTE: Other employees were highly professional.
Description of Work: We had six windows installed, plus seals replaced around the garage doors.

Response from Omaha Door & Window
We are pleased to know that this customer has done business with Omaha Door & Window for the past 20 years with complete satisfaction. It was distressing to discover that his most recent experience this fall did not go as smoothly as it has in the past. Autumn is always our busiest season, but even more so now that people are trying to purchase more energy efficient windows before the federal tax credit deadline. It is true that this customer’s installation took place in 10 weeks. On the contract, the customer was told to expect installation within 6-12 weeks. The customer has a legitimate complaint about the ODW sales representative who, after filling out all the paperwork to process the window order, forgot to pass on the information to the service department for the garage door repair. Unfortunately, the customer did have to remind ODW’s window installer about the needed garage door repair. The service department repaired the garage door in the same week that the windows got installed, but it should have gotten repaired within days of the window sale. We apologized to the customer. Our good reputation depends on speedy, professional customer service, so we will not make excuses for the sales representative. We appreciate the customer bringing this to our attention so that we can stop incidents like this from happening in the future. ODW informed the customer that the expense for the six windows was the only amount that qualified for the energy tax credit. All the additional materials such as the lumber, insulation, coil, & caulk plus the shop labor to pre-stain the wood and the labor to install and clad the windows cannot be included in the qualifying total. Since the customer reported that the product and installation was excellent and our other employees were highly professional, we hope the customer feels that the price was reasonable once the breakdown was explained to him.

As soon as the representative found out that my husband had installed some windows himself, the salesman was really done making any effort for me. He halfheartedly measured some windows and then said he would send me an estimate in a week. That was 2 weeks ago and the very last I heard of him.
Description of Work: I requested Omaha Doors and Windows come do an estimate for all of my remaining old downstairs windows now so that I could take advantage of the federal incentive money.

Response from Omaha Door & Window
It is the expectation of Omaha Door & Window that all customers are given polite, professional, and prompt service at all times. Upon further investigation of this regrettable situation, it was discovered the sales representative could not provide an estimate immediately because of the extraordinary nature of the work required both inside and outside the home. The customer was interested in changing the sizes of the openings of this historic home (built in 1878). The sales rep needed to consult the window factory and other suppliers to get quotes before he could arrive at a price. Autumn is the peak season for the window replacement business so researching and gathering information tends to take longer than usual as well. However, our sales rep should have informed the customer of the reasons for the delay. We agree with the customer that this is an unacceptable way to conduct business. We appreciate that this prospective customer took the time to point out what happened to her so that ODW was made aware of the problem. ODW has apologized to the customer and has implemented new procedures to ensure that this never happens again. As for the customer’s observation that the ODW sales rep “halfheartedly measured” the windows, please know that ODW’s procedure is to measure all windows twice by sending an installer to the job-site to double check and return with precise measurements.

I had an appointment to have a garage door put in, I was going to spend about 1,000$ with this company. First they told me they would be there late morning and by 11:50, no one had called or showed. I called the main office and was told they weren't coming until 2:30. They did not inform me of the timing issue until I called. Then one of the ladies that answers the phone was extremely rude to me. I was trying to tell her what happened, she kept interrupting me and when I finally told her everything she asked, "Are you finished?". The whole experience was awful. They obviously don't want my business because they don't care about customer service. I canceled the installation and went with their competitor who has showed up on time and has been professional.
Description of Work: They were supposed to put in a new garage door for me.

Response from Omaha Door & Window
Omaha Door & Window regrets that this job did not go as smoothly as we would like. There are a number of details that the member omitted from her complaint. We had the member’s job set up for late morning on a Saturday install since the door was broken and needed to be replaced as soon as possible. We did not charge extra for this Saturday install. On Saturdays, we have a skeleton crew working both in the office and with the installers. We also close at 1:00 pm on Saturdays. One cannot always predict exactly how long a remodeling installation would take, and the installer’s first job that day took a bit longer than he had anticipated. However, he had gotten finished right about the time the member called the office. The office worker was able to talk to the installer’s supervisor, who just happened to still be in the office. He called the installer who told him he was on his way. This was passed onto the member. The supervisor then departed, as he was not scheduled to work. A few minutes later, the installer got a call from a friend saying she had a flat tire and couldn’t change it herself. The installer called the supervisor on his cell and asked him if he could change out this tire before he went to the member’s job. The supervisor told him to call the customer to see if this would be acceptable. The installer called the member, who told him that his wife would be home anyway, so it would be OK to come a bit later. The installer proceeded to help his friend change the tire. Unfortunately, member did not communicate this to his wife. The member called the office again wondering where the installer was. The office had no idea that the installer had called his supervisor, then the member, and began trying to find out what was going on. Unfortunately, we discovered the office did not have that particular installer’s cell number, since we have a mix of company cells and personal cells. So a call was made to the supervisor’s cell. He did not answer immediately. The member then called a third time and vented her frustrations to one of the office workers. When questioned about being rude, the worker admitted she used the wrong words. As the member was giving the worker a piece of her mind, the worker was just listening. Someone was trying to talk to her at her desk since it had gotten busy. There was a pause, and the office worker asked if the member was done, thinking perhaps there would be additional comment. The member interpreted this as being rude when it was not intended to be rude. But again, the office worker admits she should have worded this differently. In the mean time, the supervisor called the installer again, and he in turn called the member. The installer called the member a total of three times. (He also tried calling the house, but the member would never answer.) Member thought he would be able talk his wife into proceeding with the installation. The installer even offered to do the door on Sunday. Member later called the installer to say that his wife did not want the door now, since we had been rude to her on the phone. So, in summary, we have an unfortunate situation where the job was undone by a series of poor communication. On our side, we had an office worker that was perceived as rude. On the customer’s side, the husband did not inform his wife that he approved of a later arrival. Again, we apologize for this mix up, but would like to say we were not the only one contributing to the problem.

The windows arrived sooner than expected and were installed shortly thereafter. Had done business with salesman when he worked for another company. Called him and ordered windows.

Omaha Door provided an excellent experience for us. They were on-time for both their estimate and installation. All of their staff I dealt with were professional and courteous. The installer took about 2 hours to put in the new door. He double checked to make sure everything was the way we had anticipated and did a great job putting in the door. The new door is absolutely amazing!

Overall, good. It was a difficult job. and the installer knew what he was doing
Description of Work: I have an old house and the door was not a standard size. I had someone else cut the bricks around the opening, then had Omaha Door frame and hang the garage door.

Overall the results were good. I would give them a B grade. Service was prompt and on time. The only problem was, we had them come out just a few months before to replace a spring. I asked the technician, at that time, if he saw anything else looking like it needed to be replaced, since our garage doors are 35 years old. He said everything else looked fine. A few months later a cable broke. So we had to pay for two service charges in just a few months. I talked to the service manager on the phone, and he was understanding. He gave us 10% off the service charge. So, I feel it is a good company to work with. They also replaced our garage door openers last year. That was a very good experience and the price was good.
