Very poorly due to their lack of professionalism and not standing behind their work
Description of Work: Refused to repair or replace toilet they had installed. Had done business with them for nearly 30 years and spent tens of thousands of dollars with them. Non-responsive and poor quality service and work.

He convinced me to buy the $20 cap for the rest of the system also. He quoted $300 for the kick start and $240 for the other cap for the rest of the system. The pricing he gave lacked the distinction between part price or hourly price or whatever business overhead price. It was just a single price listed by part but not representing the parts price. I asked why it was so high, he said he doesn't set them. He arrived between 4pm and 7pm (@ 6:35pm) and marked on the sheet 6pm and finished around 7:30pm with no signout time on the sheet copy he gave me. So he chatted with me a bit while doing the work and he was a nice person and checked his work when finished before leaving. The kickstart cap was visually toasted as seen in the picture. The other capacitor seen in the picture was perfectly fine looking but he told me I should do it so I did...while feeling bad about the decision give how easily I could have done it if I wasn't such a wimp. But it was my first time doing this so I let him. As for rating this service. Their pricing is not broken down. He literally wrote down a price. Is there haggle room? I don't know, what is this some third world country? So his price seemed like maybe he personally could have been ripping me off. My friend told me to run for my life. But I agreed to do it anyway. Much to my dismay and feelings during the time of not wanting to, I am a wimp. I blame my parents and myself. That being said. Deceptive pricing, over priced work and lame excuses for why. This guy could have been paid $100 an hour + $60 in parts and give $160 to the company and then they still charged twice that. And I know this guy didn't get paid $100 for that job. Which means the company raked in like $400 and likely more than that. That's a very inefficient business. I honestly believe they should go out of business and these employee's should go work for someone else. This business needs to fail so someone more efficient and less wasteful and take my money. I feel like I just got ripped off big time. Next time I'm going to be less of a wimp and kick them out of my house. This was a learning experience for me and I hope my review helps you. See the images attached for what parts were in my AC before he got there and the burned kickstart cap that got jolted by the storm the night before. Also a picture of the work area with the tech whited out. Decent guy, but this company should go under. Stop giving these theives your money and stop giving them your employment. Seriously I would feel a lot better just giving that guy $400 then paying this company $640. And I'm sure the employee would have been VERY happy with that. Especially if he's staying so busy as to arrive in the nick of time before the end of his window. I rate overall deceptive - F Price was deceptive and a lie - F Quality of the business is ineffcient with funds and time - F Responsive - C, decent. Punctuality - C, decent but only average at best. Professionalism - Deceptive, over priced, whiney when the truth comes out. F See images.

I had Aksarben quote me two times for repairs. The first was installing a water pressure reducing valve. The valve costs 45 and they want over four hundred in labor for a one hour job. I hence declined I then chose a water heater from home depot only to learn that to get it installed by Home Depot you had to have Aksarben do the install....yes you guessed correctly. They wanted 1300 in labor. We simply went to Lowe's and had a local plumber install for 300. Aksarben claims they have a standard pricing. This is true but they are truly criminal. Will Never even call for a bid again. Just would be wasting time.

We find that every time they come, they try to upsell and add on. The quality of the service was fine, we just got tired of the continual upsell. They wanted to sell you another $200-$400 worth of stuff. They could have done their job and quit trying to upsell.
Description of Work: We use Aksarben Heating & Air. We had them on an annual contract, and they were here last month for a service of the air conditioner. We stopped the contract after that.

AC was rumbling loudly Sunday. Called Aksarben ARS to have tech come out same day. We were aware of the $159 service charge. Tech came and took apart furnace and told us we needed a new motor, wheel, etc. the charges would be over $1000 after all said and done. Then he went outside to check unit and said it was whining and may need to be replaced. Really? He then talked about having a sales guy come see us to talk about a new unit installation. Really? Since our unit is 10 yrs old and serviced twice yearly, this has never come up. He wanted to schedule the repair for Monday since he didn't have the parts on his truck. Thank God we said no that we needed to talk about it since this was such a large amount to pay. The service charge ended up costing us $215 not $159. So beware of added expenditures. Called our regular HVAC guy on Monday. Came out and said wheel needed to be replaced. Nothing else. Said unit will last 12 to 15 yrs, not 10. His bill? $214. Unbelievable. I will never ever recommend Aksarben ARS to anyone. Oh he did look at outside unit. Said the whining was from the bad wheel since it isn't making a whining noise now.

They did all of the work on very short notice. The interactions with them were pretty good. The work turned out awesome. I think the price was pretty good.

A man came out Sunday May 8 and said he would have to order a new valve stem. He turned off the hot water around noon and I had no hot water for two days. About noon on the 10th a different man came out and put in the new part . He did not re install the chrome flange behind the knob because it did not fit the new part. So he left with a large hole in the tile behind the knob. Now it is up to me to figure out what to do with this mess. His charging $380 for a $30 part is totally insane.

In summary. Had them come out and check hvac. Put some stuff in to lubricate and prolong the life of condenser. A day later the ac froze up. Came out found first guy left something loose so the stuff I paid $400 for all leaked out and most of the freon. Then a day later froze up again...came back out and found a hole in a coil! Repair guy (and others I had look at system) said probably because of all the recent stress on system. Need new coil or new system which wasn't much more than just coil plus freon. Had salesman come out plus four others. they didnt forgive or take off the nearly $1000 spent on the repairs and were thousands more than everyone else. DO NOT USE...unless money is no object.

I was told that the ac was leaking Freon and that I needed to replace it as it would be cheaper to do that rather then finding the source of the leak and repair it. Up to this point the ac was operating properly. I was concerned at the cost of having to replace it - so I contacted a second provided for a second opinion. They are a local company and have been around a number of years. They came and inspected the ac (at no cost to me) and told me they could not locate any leaks and that my ac was functioning properly. I contacted Aksarben and told them what had happened. I asked them if they provided bonuses or compensation to their technicians that sold additional services and/or equipment. They did not respond to the question other than to say that their technicians were paid appropriately. I asked to be taken off the maintenance plan as I did not trust the integrity of the company. They agreed to do this. I would not recommend Aksarben. I have been a customer for at least 15 years. I have to say that in the beginning, their technicians did a good job. But over the years, there always seems to be a need for additional services or they push you to purchase additional equipment. Be sure to get a second opinion if you continue to use them.
Description of Work: I am on the provider's maintenance plan and pay a monthly fee for a yearly maintenance on the ac in the spring and the furnace in the fall. The provider looked at my ac and completed a check up as part of the plan.

Jeff came out to repair a broken drain in the bathroom sink. In & out quickly and professionally. Good guy. Good company. Drain fixed and leaking eliminated. And they cut me a discount on the work which would normally have been quite a bit more costly. That was undoubtedly due to our long term relationship. Then also on 7/24/14 Jason came out to check the geothermal system air conditioning at no charge as part of the service contract. Everything is working ok. Another good man. I've been quite pleased with AkSarBen HVAC over the years.

Jason W originally came over on January 20th, 2014 to do the first tune-up as noted in the Home Service Plan. He found that 2 of the 4 heat sequencers in the new geothermal heat pump were not working. He found burned fuses and wires and attempted to replace them, but he snapped the fuse block. The other two fuses were still working so the unit could run. But Jason had to order parts to get all 4 fuses in the new (1 year old) furnace working again. Jason returned with the replacement fuse block on February 6th, 2014. He replaced the block, the transformer body, the 2 fuses, and a crimped wire on the board which he thinks is what caused the original 2 fuses to blow. No problem now as everything seems to be in good working order. Jason was really bummed out he couldn't get this fixed correctly first trip. Good man as he took responsibility for AkSarBen for everything that was wrong --- and then he got it fixed. I believe there was no charge of any kind for any of this. Once again, I would certainly recommend AkSarBen HVAC and it's technicians.

Mike Murray, the technician, installed customer provided 4 new bathroom faucets and drains including supply lines. Mike also pulled the main floor toilet and installed new wax ring, closet bolts, and re-anchored the toilet to the floor. In the basement he removed the plastic trap from the laundry tub, cut in a tee, and ran it direct to waste water line. Mike was a good technician and worked well with the fairly cheap faucets purchased at ACE Hardware. Also a friendly, easy-going guy. Mike did a fine job.

My house lost all heat as the old geothermal furnace shut down. The ASkSarBen technician, Nathan, came out in the middle of a horrible snowstorm and got me back up and running after checking out the old unit. He recommended a complete replacement.

One of the cheap faucets I purchased and had installed on 11/06/2013 developed a leak in the drain caused by a broken pop-up assembly. I got a replacement from the manufacturer and then Jeff Clayton of AkSarBen came over and quickly made the repair. Jeff also sold me their annual $241.60 Home Service Plan which includes two seasonal HVAC tune-ups and a discount on other services and repairs. Jeff did a fine job as usually done by the AkSarBen HVAC technicians.

There was some slight miscommunication between the salesman, Mike Bertino, and the installation crew. The installation crew did a great job over two days and the furnace was up and running. It is now July of 2014 and I'm happy to report that after a couple very small glitches over this time period everything works well. I am quite pleased with AkSarBen HVAC and with the unit they purchased for me.

Thermostat showed 61 degrees when technician arrived. The furnace had been istalled on January 2nd and 3rd of 2013 by AkSarBen HVAC. The technician, Don G., looked it over and determined the compressor locked out as the "freeze stat" was set at 30 degrees upon delivery. And for a closed loop geothermal like mine, it should have a "freeze stat" set at 15%. This was a simple fix - NO CHARGE - and Don was surprised they didn't catch this when it was installed. It was just an oversight at installation according to Don.

We recommend to NEVER use Aksarben ARS! We own an older home in the Dundee area of Omaha. We purchased a new "Heat-Pump" in 2008 from Aksarben ARS. Aksarben ARS engineered the solution, and sold us a unit based upon the size of our home, the amount of insulation, and the size and type of duct work. The furnace and air conditioning combination unit has been good; however, our issues have been around improper ducting and venting. In addition, we have had numerous issues with the external humidification unit. We had issues in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 with the original humidification unit installed by Aksarben in 2008. We spent money on new filters, service calls, and replacement parts. None of this resolved our issues. In the spring of 2012, we engaged Aksarben ARS and the manufacture Aprilaire to try and find a solution. Aksarben made a promise to us that a new unit would resolve our issues. We installed the new unit in May of 2012. We again struggled in the winter of 2012 with humidification. Aksarben had numerous technician on site in October 2012, December 2012, February 2013, and March 2013 attempting to resolve the issues. In March 2013, the problem was associated with a manufacturer defect. Aksarben replaced a number of parts and we were promised that this unit was fixed. Spring came and the unit was disengaged by Aksarben. We had Aksarben back on site in October 2013 to reengage the unit. We experienced issues 48 hours after the technician left our home. We had Aksarben back on site on December 4. We again experienced issues 48 hours after the technician left our home. We called in on December 9 to explain our situation. We stated that we were flexible on time, but needed Aksarben to schedule a technician that was familiar with our Aprilaire 800. We received a call back on December 9 that a technician would be dispatched on December 17 who was aware of the problems, history, and be fully qualified to fix the unit. The Aksarben technician arrived today, December 17, with very little knowledge of our problems. The technician immediately called "Don", as Jerry was not familiar with the error codes. After 30 minutes, the technician stated that "there were no issues"; despite the unit displaying red flashing lights, squealing, and displaying a solid red service light. The technician stated that the unit was "operating as designed" and that it was "fully functional"; despite our home being at 22% humidity and the unit being set at a level 7. We were extremely frustrated and asked the technician to leave. We asked Jerry to have his manager call us to discuss next steps. It took another 30 minutes for us to receive a call from Phil. We proceeded to opened a case with Aprilaire. Based upon the error codes, Aprilaire is recommending a full cleaning, a replacement canister, and a new tap be made on the cold water supply. Aprilaire asked to be engaged on this incident. Aprilaire can be contacted toll-free at 1(800)334-6011, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. We have also talked with Melinda at Aprilaire, (608) 310-6175. She also recommends replacing the canister, cleaning, a new tap that is properly supported, and a new membrane switch. Melinda has offered to speak with Don and Phil, cover this issue under warranty, and make available a senior Aprilaire technician who fully understands the error codes. In the end Aksarben was onsite more than 20 times and never did resolve the problems. Aprilaire replaced the unit and everything has been operational since the unit replacement has been installed.
