Description of Work: My wife and I were very enthused after our initial contact with this company. We had received several estimates and Harbor came in at a very reasonable price. The salesman was very responsive during the initial stages and we were reassured by the reviews available at that time. The salesman was receptive to our concerns and seemed more than willing to accommodate our concerns. We felt quite confident that we had made the right choice during this time. |The level of responsiveness dropped off slightly as the date for the work drew closer. The first major problem was the supply drop. I asked the company that dropped off the pallets of materials to set them in the driveway. The driver preferred to place them in the yard. I understood the premise, but I thought my concerns for my yard should have been honored. |The work ended up being delayed and Harbor was quick to respond in terms of my concern for the materials damaging the lawn. The materials were moved to the driveway that day, but the damage to the yard was substantial after the forklift had made several trips back and forth. |The crew was able to show up about a week later after a period of rain passed. While it was inconvenient to have pallets of materials in our driveway for a week, we understood the situation. I must say that the crew was very diligent, and outside of the fact that I had to spend half a day pressure washing my driveway to remove all of the scuff marks and stains from the materials and the oil stains from the crew van, I felt that the crew was very efficient and respectful. Not that we know exactly how a roof should be applied, but the roof looks very nice and we can surely assume that it was put on correctly. |The main complaint we have with Harbor is the way things were handled once the work was finished. The salesman appeared with the bill shortly after the work was completed. We completed a thorough walk through of the yard. I pointed out my concern about a damaged bird feeder and the damage to the yard from the forklift. He did not acknowledge the feeder. |I felt as though the lawn damage should be addressed before the job should be considered complete. He assured me that the lawn would be taken care of, but insisted that payment for the work completed needed to be procured immediately. I said that I wasn't comfortable with this arrangement, but I understood that materials and labor had been expended. I now feel I should have pressed this point further. We agreed that a few hundred dollars would be held back until the lawn damage was addressed. |When he presented the amount due I presented a 5% coupon that I had recently discovered on the Angie's List website. The coupon is specifically for Harbor Roofing and there are no stipulations as to how or when it can be applied, or when it must be presented. After presenting the coupon, the salesman insisted that the discount had already been applied to the original estimate. I told him that there was no indication of this on the original estimate and that he had not verbally stated that any discount had been applied. He maintained his stance and said that we had indeed received the "Angie's List price". I asked how I was supposed to know this. He claimed that when he asked how I found the company, and I said Angie's List, that the discount was already built in to the estimate at that point. This action alone would keep us from providing Harbor Roofing a glowing review. |While we feel we received a fair price, this misdirection was very unsettling and soured our overall experience. Moreover, I also asked, during the original estimate, how much it would be to roof our small shed. The cost ended up being over twice what the salesman quoted. He dismissed the disparity by saying that he hadn't measured the shed. |It has been several weeks since they finished the job. The salesman assured me that he would have someone attend to the lawn. I haven't heard from anyone since that day. |Again, we were impressed with the crew. But, in the end, the company's representative ended up being both careless and misleading. |I'll update if I should hear from them about the yard. At this point I'll just assume that they've written off the small loss. In fact, I've already started on the repairs.
