I had been looking for someone to install the retaining wall for a while as this project was beyond DIY. I have worked with many contractors over the years on various projects and have become very skeptical of what will be the quality, on time delivery and cost of a project. My experience has been cost over-runs, less delivered then promised and at a longer lead time to perform, often leaving me with a project that is sub quality and feeling very dissatisfied. That was very far from this experience. Communication A+ First, Advance Landscape has hours that fit my busy schedule! I was able to call late and got a immediate response. When I thought I would have to wait weeks for a quote, Rick came out on Sunday to get the ball rolling. Rick kept in constant contact via e-mail, phone calls and text messages. I was never left wondering during the entire process. Delivery A+ Rick told me the dates he would start, and when he would be finished. When the weather turned and we got nonstop rain for a week, Rick let us know exactly the alternate dates and met those commitments. Value A+ Rick did everything he said he would, He did it for the price he said he would, and then he went beyond. Rick did a multitude of extras that were not part of the original scope. He planted my shrubs and trees, he was there when they delivered the shed (I would not have had to come home from work) He did more mulching than agreed on. He cleaned up after others. Quality A+ The workmanship is something to be proud of. I like to Do It Myself as I am seldom satisfied with the quality or workmanship when I have had services performed as contractors seldom treat it like it was theirs. Ricks delivered quality workmanship like he was doing it for himself. The wall is level, the joints tight, the miters clean. Impressive. Service A+ Rick gets it. He made sure at ever step we knew what was going on and what to expect. Friendly, Professional, There was never a time when it was uncomfortable to have this team at our house. In fact, my wife and I enjoyed the conversations and we found it is a small world as we got to know the people that make this a top notch organization. I am comfortable to highly recommend Advance Landscape as I am confident what we experienced is the norm for this organization. We will certainly be inviting Rick and his team back when we need more work done.

Thanks to Rick and his team, we have the nicest looking yard in the neighborhood. He has also put in steps with lights built in and a patio going from our driveway down the back of the house. In the patio he was clever enough to add irrigation water sprayers for our daughter to play in during the hot months of the summer. She has had a lot of fun with this. We then asked Rick to move a swing set and we are now asking him to install a Fire Pit for us. He has great ideas and plans everything down to the smallest details. In the fall he blows the leaves out of the flower beds and off the yard. H does a fantastic job selecting mulch and putting it down for us. He maintains our irrigation system, added a remote control for me to make it easier to run the patio water system with the touch of a button and makes sure the system is running properly in the summer and then blown out and properly shut down for the winter. He even helped me put up Christmas lights this past year as it is getting a little harder for me to do each year. And he comes out when the driveway and sidewalk need to be cleared of snow and ice. Rick and his team are extremely professional and know what they are doing on all aspects of landscaping. We were introduced to Rick in 2011 and I can't imagine using anyone else to help us with our yard and landscaping needs. They are also very friendly and respectful as well. Every time I have asked Rick if he can do something for us his answer has always been, "Yes I Can!" And he is excited to do it. You can always tell when someone lovers what they do and Rick really loves what he does. I recommend Rick Knowles and his team at Advance Landscaping on the Highest level. They just came and did the service and left. I do kind of wish they would leave some kind of notice when they perform a service because we are not always home when a service occurs. However, I must say, we have the greenest, thickest lawn we have ever had.

Have used Rick for years now. Had used others before and found the prices too high and the people less than trustworthy. I can always rely on Rick to do a good job and tell me what needs to be done to make my yard look better. Very pleased with the service.

We found Rick on Angie?s list at the beginning of 2014 and are so glad we did! We cannot say enough great things about the work Rick has done at our home over the past seven months. He has been out many times for different projects, such as removing many small and large trees, planting a 10? tree, installing shrubs and perennials, and creating new landscaping beds (they are the best looking in the neighborhood). We have also used him for larger projects such as installing downspout drains, installing a walking path, and putting in a large retaining wall. Finally, we have had his company do our lawn fertilization this year and have been very happy with the results. Rick is very busy but has always taken the time to meet with us to discuss new projects. He listens to our ideas and then makes suggestions based on his experience while keeping our budget in mind. He gets his estimates to us in a timely manner, and we have found his pricing to be unbeatable given the high quality of work. We changed our minds on what materials to use for several projects, and Rick accommodated by doing new bids. As much as possible, we try to be DIYers for landscaping and home improvement, and we take great pride and care in what we do. Therefore, when we do use a contractor, we expect the work to meet our high expectations. The fact that we used Rick for projects this year and already have many in mind for next year is a testament to the quality of his work.

Rick was great to work with throughout the project. He was very patient and accommodating as we changed direction and added to the scope and complexity several times. We were always kept up to date on the progress and he genuinely wanted to make sure we were pleased each step of the way. The extra little touches Rick and his crew added throughout their time here were very much appreciated. As it turns out, the results were amazing! Looking forward to our next project in the Fall.

They dug out everything--removed and cleaned up everything--were attentive to the surrounding landscape, and made sure the patio fit well into its surroundings. They brought in, I believe, 28,000 pounds of gravel before laying the sand, and were meticulous throughout the process, measuring and leveling. Some adjustments had to be made as the patio was built, and Rick took care of everything, including making sure the water would flow off and away from the house--which it does beautifully. He also covered some brick steps with pavers which was not in the original plan and helped us use some of the leftover pavers for a paver and gravel path. The job took 10 days or so, including spreading grass seed out over some areas where they smoothed out the yard by spreading out the dirt they'd dug up. The crew has a great work ethic and it was actually a pleasure to have them work here. Always cleaned everything up--including blowing out the screened in porch where some dust had found its way in. Wish I had "before" pictures. This project has totally changed the feel of the back yard. It turned out even better than anticipated. We will be working with him again as other landscape projects arise.

We're just beginning a lawn maintenance program. The weeds are dead and dying and the good grass which was reseeded in the spring is coming through. Rick says I'll have a nice lawn in a year! Can't wait!

Provided and estimate, showed up and did the work unsupervised. I was happy with the result.

Rick was very knowledgable and helpful in the selection of the pavers for the patio. Rick met us on a number of occasions at our home and at his vendor's store as we searched for the right paver. The project was finally under way but the weather was not cooperating. Rick and hit team worked as often as the weather would permit. What was most impressive is Rick's attention to detail. Specifically, our back yard is essentially up hill and he did an excellent job in ensuring the patio sloped away from the house and that the water would shed off to the sides of the house. It was not an easy task but he took no short cuts in ensuring we would not have water problems. When it came to the laying of the pavers, Rick and his team did an outstanding job of ensuring the base had the correct depths of stone and sand. At one point, the neighbors dog walked through the smoothed sand. Rick and his team did not complain, just dealt with it and drove on. Rick and his team worked through the weekend to get the job done. We were around and Rick was kind enough to explain what he was doing and why, knowing I was doing a paver project of my own at one of my other properties. Over all, nothing to complain about.

I met Rick Knowles, the owner, across a fence between my yard and my neighbor. Rick was there doing landscape "cleanup" for my neighbor. This was October, 2013. I expressed interest in his lawn service, he got my email, etc, said he'd send me his standard contract that evening. He did as promised and then followed up with a phone call to answer any of my questions. He's been taking care of our yard since. I'm totally happy with that work. Now comes an even better review. We had been discussing adding an addition to our patio since last December. At that point we had no idea that Rick did paver's, etc. So, I got an Angieslist, made phone calls, sent emails, etc, etc for about two weeks. Of the six companies I tried contacting 2 called back, one showed up and gave me an estimate that was ridiculous. As luck would have it, Rick was working with his crew in our yard one day and I mentioned my irritation of people not calling back for estimates, etc. Once I found out he did this kind of jobs I was excited because of knowing how he performed his work for me. He came by the next day, we sat and described what we wanted, measured out the area, talked a bit more about the process, materials, and time frame. He was busy enough that we were two months out from getting it done. We talked several times leading up to the job starting. The date finally arrived, he and crew were on time, and had the necessary equipment to get'er done. I'll not bore you with the details but will say that every single he promised he did, plus other things that were a real nice surprise to us. To say that we're very pleased with the workmanship, professionalism, personal touches, his crew, quality of the materials used is simply an understatement. It is SO refreshing to find a small business that does care about his job, what he produces, and the customer he does it for. I've recommended Advance Landscaping to many people already and will continue to do so. Give him an opportunity, you won't be disappointed!

I am over-the-moon thrilled with Rick and his business. He is the 3rd lawn maintenance provider we have had in 8 years. My experience has been that most providers start out great, but then they slack off. Rick has maintained our yard as if every time they come is the first time they've worked on it. They are extremely prompt, quick to respond to concerns, and extremely thorough each visit. He has a great crew - polite, professional and well-trained. Best decision I ever made!!!!

An excellent company to work with!! I was impressed with Rick and his knowledge and professionalism when I first met him. I called to set up an appointment, and he arrived at the scheduled time. He had so many ideas about what could be done. He returned a few days later with samples of pavers and suggested a website showing shapes, sizes, and colors that were available. Rick and his crew were here on the set date and began breaking up the old patio and hauling it away. After completing that, things started falling into place. When they started laying the pavers, I was thrilled and could begin to see the end result. I wish I knew the correct terminology for all they did and the types of pavers and stones they used.. The project lasted 5 days, and I am so happy with it. It is beautiful, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have received so many compliments from family and friends. I highly recommend Rick and his crew, and I would not hesitate to call him for any future landscaping projects.

They showed up on time and went straight to work. Rick and his team were great! They worked their butts off the entire time from the time they got here,approx 930am till they left, approx 300pm. They did a fantastic job! They did not leave until I was completely satisfied, which I was.

Rick and his crew did an excellent job for a very reasonable price, and he also made really good suggestions for what should be planted, and how things ought to be trimmed and maintained in a manner that saves us a considerable amount of money.

I want to start by saying I'm knowledgeable about stone/brick construction having done it in the past but I'm older now. Advance Landscaping was 1 of 5 bids I had received. All 5 companies I contacted came to my home and surveyed the job proposal and delivered written estimates. Of the 5 estimates: 1 was totally ridiculous in price. Not just high but ridiculous (how do they get any work?) 1 did not appear to be very professional. He was unkempt and he drove a pretty ratty pickup truck. (he could have been good but first impression was not good) That leaves 3 who were in the ballpark on price so other factors had to be applied. 1 basically told me my plan was no good and proceeded to tell me what HE wanted to do with the backyard. He also told me that it would take him and crew at least two weeks from start to finish as he had to work in "other" jobs as well. (My thought was, just go work your "other" jobs and I'll move on) Then came Rick Knowles of Advance. Positives= he listened to what WE wanted. He made excellent suggestions which improved the project without raising the cost (ie: instead of using drain boxes near the downspouts, he would directly connect them to buried PVC and route the piping to the side of the house and downhill with popup drain head, plus other improvements to our plan. The last company was fine except not as impressive. knowledgeable and responsive as Rick of Advance. Two days after our walk around and meeting, he emailed me his proposal and we accepted - WE ARE GLAD WE DID! Rick and his team are OUTSTANDING.. They showed up every morning ready to work, materials on site and put in a full day each day. Rick's knowledge of stone/hardscape work it outstanding. He is VERY METICULOUS ! He and his team perform at a very high standard. Soon the first wall was coming together and then the second one was nearing completion. Along the way, he would always have us come out to approve and small change he had in mind or to verify "this is how you want it - right?".. This alone is great feature not found in many companies. He wanted each phase perfect before moving to the next phase. Excellent work! Now that our walls are built, we must now landscape the area and finally install pavers at the foot of the ground level wall - ADVANCE IS ALREADY APPROVED FOR THESE PROJECTSS I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RICK KNOWLES OF ADVANCE LANDSCAPING for any of your landscaping needs.

Rick and his team were terrific. First Rick came for a consult, listened to my ideas and needs, then presented me with a plan to achieve all of my goals and then some. Rick's crew came in and cleared the back yard and an overgrown front natural area, and sprayed down weed killer. After the weed killer had time to work and get out of the ground they came back and laid topsoil where needed, planted two areas with a well thought out plan. The plants look perfect, with an order to the layout and presentation. Rick used plants that were low maintenance (which I wanted) but would still look good all year. The crew worked hard all day getting the landscaping perfect, laying a truck of topsoil, a truck and a half of mulch, planted a lot of plants, then aerated, seeded and hayed the yard. I could not be happier with the work they performed, the quality of the work and the professionalism of the crew. I would highly recommend Advance Landscaping to anyone.

The job went well. Finish looks great. Rick mulched, edged, aerated and re seeded the yard, fertilized and laid new sod in key locations. The crew did not work all day the first few days but the work was completed in a reasonable period of time. Rick took us to the plant nursery to select our own rock, boulders, plants, shrubs and trees. He worked through the details do the plan put together by an outside designer, offered his input and discussed the options with us along the way. We are quite pleased with the result and plan to have him complete more work in the future.

It 's too soon to know the results because the service was just provided less than a week ago, but I feel confident that we are going to be pleased with the results in the long run because they are going to continue regular lawn treatments over the next year.

First, I can understand the woes some have had with getting a response from Rick. It took a couple calls to get a hold of him, but when I did, he met me promptly the next day to discuss my landscaping needs. It also took a little bit of time before I got the initial quote and the follow-up revised quote. To his defense though, I understand that September becomes an extremely busy month for any landscaper who maintains yards, as they start adding in the seasonal work, plantings, aeration, seeding, fertilizing, etc. That said, he apologized for the delay, and from the receipt of the revised quote I have had nothing but great communication with him. He was prompt with calling me ahead of coming out to do the work as I'd asked, and was out to do my work on the day specified, even calling during the process with a question. Rick came out with his guys on 10/1 to put plants in a front planting bed, spread mulch in that bed and the others in my front yard, as well as seed/aerate/fertilize the yard. My revised quote for the landscaping only was $1,200, which included putting out 20 3-gallon plants plus a nice Japanese Maple. This was down from the original quote which included another 10+ plants in order to keep the cost down a bit. What Rick actually installed though, was around 35 plants of various sizes (vs the 20 3-gallons), along with the maple center piece. He used his professional judgement as I wanted him to, and I'm very glad he did. The result looks great, and I think had it been much less plants, I would have been less excited by the results. The rest of the price paid was for the yard maintenance and the mulching. While the cost of the mulching is higher, it definitely is a time saver not to have to contend with acquireing it or putting it out myself. In the end, he ended up using more mulch than he quoted me on, but didn't charge me extra for the little overage, even though I said I would more than willingly pay for it. Aside from mulching the front beds he even went extra to put some around two trees in my back yard. He also called me about a bed around my walkway where I had pulled up some existing edging to see if I wanted him to pull up the rest of the edging and cut it in properly. I told him I was planning to do that, widen it and round out an area. He ended up doing all that, and mulching the extended areas too. All in all I am very pleased with my experience of using Rick and Advance Landscaping. The end result has more than outweighed any minor hiccup at the start. Rick is knowledgeable about plants, yards, and landscaping and it shows, and so do the results. I very much look forward to having him do additional work in the future, particularly with doing some beds and planting around a new deck rebuild that I'm having done. Much thanks!
