Great They were always willing to go the extra mile

I pay a flat fee every month. They come out weekly and do mowing, blowing the leaves, and trimming. They take care of our property. Two people came out. They just take care of everything so I don't have to worry about it.

They did some rock work, making a dry river bed. It took them a half of a day. It was something we discussed, he made suggestions and we decided what it was going to look like and he did it.

Excellent! Rick and his crew made the squalid backyard into a beautiful oasis. He had great suggestions on how to make our yard look better and he accomplished that and so much more. Great job!

Rick Knowles and his team were wonderful!! They were professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. My entire project was done in under two days. Rick met with us ahead of time and we drew up the landscaping plans together. He managed to incorporate ALL of the plants I requested, along with others for balance. He trimmed my two trees and the camellias I had decided to keep. He brought in soil to fix the grade by my A/C units (I was not even aware there was a problem). The entire area was mulched and he even built me a platform to place my garden hose reel on. I couldn't be happier! My yard looks clean, professional and beautiful. Advance Landscaping is now working on my lawn. I can't wait to see the results! Highly recommend.

Rich and his crew are very professional, reliable, and provided all services without being told. We would continue his service if we were not moving out-of-state.

OK, except that water still pools in the walkway. An additional drain would have solved the problem. The flagstones were mostly small pieces, which means they are still not sitting firmly in the base. The extra cost sealing procedure was pretty worthless. It was supposed to keep the pea gravel between the flagstone pieces from migrating around and didn't. The contractor failed to answer my email about the drainage issue. While the work was being done I asked for an estimate for additional work but never received it.

I have a maintenance agreement with them. It is an annual contract and is $200 a month or $2,400 a year. Rick Knowles is the owner. They come weekly on either Wednesday or Thursday. They just come out and do it. They are very reliable. You don't have to think about what has to be done next. They do all the mowing and chemicals, where it needs to be seeded, and when it needs to be aerated, They take care of it all.

Rick is a good, honest guy, and his guys showed up each week, and did their job. His price is excellent, but for us at least the overall value was not as strong as we expected. Rick made some commitments prior to us committing to the contract that were not consistent with the delivery of the crew at our home. We thought the beds would be taken better care of, and The lawn has made some progress, but nothing that would be considered impactful (failed to get rid of Bermuda grass and Nutsedge) and failed to recognize aphids on the Create Myrtles until we said something, and by that time it prevented full bloom of trees. Beyond that, the maintenance crew showed up did the minimum they had to do each week, and we constantly had to remind them (nicely) about weeds, etc leafs in beds, etc. It became clear to us that the crew viewed us as unrealistic complainers and did not like coming to our home (even thought we recommended them to our next door neighbors..) This is not intended to be a bad review, it simply to share our experience, and is a word of caution to set proper expectations. If you are looking for a good basic maintenance program at the lowest price, with a reputable company, you will be happy. If you are looking for a significant impact and improvement to your lawn and yard, with proactive, above and beyond service, you should expect to pay more and go with another company. We wish Rick and Advanced nothing but the best!

We have been fortunate to work with Advance Landscaping since we moved to the area last summer. Rick Knowles and his crew have handled many tasks for us, from lawn seeding and fertilizing, to tree planting and trimming as well as other landscaping tasks. Their work has always been timely, carefully performed, and reasonably priced (even though our house is a long drive from’s Rick’s base of operations.) Recently Rick performed a more substantial job for us. He and his guys designed and built over two hundred feet of beautiful block retaining walls along the front of our property. We have never been through a project like this before, and Rick made it a pleasure. First he showed us on site his suggestions for the general design of the walls. Then he met us at his supplier’s facility so that we could see the materials choices. This was much better than trying to choose the blocks from a catalog or photographs. From the moment Rick began preparing the foundations, we could tell he was enthusiastic about quality and craftsmanship. Over the following couple of weeks he had to deal with ten inches of snow, and several more inches of rain, but the project progressed smoothly. After installing over 30 tons of blocks, cutting and shaping countless blocks, and installing wiring and accent lighting, the walls were complete. But the job was not done. Rick’s crew planted dozens of plants, and thoroughly cleaned up the entire front yard. Now that the walls are completed, several neighbors have driven by to see the finished product, and we have received many compliments. Working with Rick on this project was like working with the landscaper on the This Old House television show. He is a great guy, and we look forward to having him and his crew help us with more projects in the future.

Rick has a good team and is responsive to questions and issues. They finished the work timely and professionally. I now use them for weekly yard care.

We made an appointment with Rick to stop by to lay out the plan. As always, he was prompt and arrived on time, and within an hour we'd decided on our course of action, and Rick said he'd been in touch after looking for blocks in certain colors, etc. Four days later, we talked again, set a date to begin, and we were off to the races. He and his helper showed up on time and got to work. The entire project took 2 days. I have to say I'd considered doing one of these jobs myself but after watching what goes into it, at 72, I'm very glad I didn't try it! Rick is very meticulous about his work, and I have full faith in his abilities, and the outcome. He's fair about pricing, expecting and deserving of a decent profit so you have no fear of getting your gums ripped out. As you'll see from the pictures, he did a masterful job, and we couldn't be happier. Thanks Rick, for another great job!

I couldn't be happier!! Rick Knowles and his crew transformed a small space benignly neglected for 29 years into a neat, clean, peaceful area I will enjoy always. Rick is meticulous in detail and accurately envisions the end result well before he provides a proposal. As a single female homeowner, I was treated with respect and Rick listened to and heard every request and concern. The cost of the work was reasonable and competitive and did not change from proposal to completion. Finally, the work was completed well before the projected end date. Feedback from family and neighbors: "Gorgeous!" "WOW!!" "Beautiful!!"

Rick is a good guy, who is fair and reasonable and goes above the call of duty without hammering you for every little thing. He runs a quality, no frill, low overhead business, and it reflects in his reasonable prices compared to the bigger, more branded guys. As far as I can tell the quality is as good or better. Rick showed up when he said he would and did what he said would. The yard looks great, many neighbors have stopped and stared, and our next door neighbor is using them now too. We also hired him for an annual maintenance program and turf care I will review that at the end of the year once the results are in.

Rick and his crew showed up as scheduled Saturday morning with a small front end loader and got to work right away, cutting up the downed pine trees in short order, cutting down a couple of trees with broken tops, and cut down a couple more dead trees, which were just breaking off dead limbs. His crew cut up all this wood and carried it into the woods behind our house with the small front end loader. You could barely tell an ice storm had happened when they left a few hours later. Competant, smart, efficient - wish all contractors could work this way! Thank you!

We got an estimate from Rick. He gave us a date of beginning the work, and a a ball park of finishing, which had to be flexible due to rain. He went above the call of duty, and did a wonderful job. I'm planning a fire pit for this year.

Did a good job. Looks good. Rick is a hard-working and determined individual. The week he schedule for the work was a rainy week. But he managed to get in when there was a lag of wetness.

Timely and very reasonable quote as compared to others, quick turn around - especially given the recent rains. Really did a beautiful job and took care of a few other small items - cutting a stay limb for example - without additional charges. Would definitely use them again.

Most of the time I don't catch the guys when they provide a lawn treatment. This last time I did and I had a question about what kind of preventative service, if any, they provide in the spring to prevent the onslaught of Japanese beetles like we have had this year. Rick's son was in charge that day and he didn't really know. The gentleman that was with him said that they did treat for grubs in the spring but I'm not really certain he understood what I was asking. Rick's son gave me his Dad's cell phone to call about the treatment for grubs in the spring. I had to ask because the invoice we receive does not have a phone number or email address and they don't have a website.. This information would be helpful. Also, the reason I was unsure in the question above about what treatment they provided is because the invoice we receive only says "fertilization". It doesn't specify exactly what service was provided. The service they provide is great. We have the best looking lawn we've had since we moved here 8 years ago. Of course, this year with the extreme heat and lack of rain we are having a big problem with crabgrass and some brown sections in the lawn and the Bermuda grass seems to be spreading again but I have every expectation that they will be able to handle these issues.

It has been fabulous. Not having the yard work to deal with has been a huge relief. It looks better than ever even with our 2 children and 3 dogs using it for their play area! The dogs make it very dificult to maintain good grass since they also use the back yard for their play area and their bathroom!! However, with Rick's attention it has begun to flourish again. His crew is always quick and efficient. They are always careful about not letting our dogs out if they happen to be in the back yard when they begin the work. I have three white Oaks and 2 Red Oaks and several Maples and Beach trees that produce an enormous amount of leaves. Their efficient weekly removal of those leaves has been one of the factors that has helped our grass flourish. We paid to have a professional designer draft us a landscape plan and Rick has helped us to prioritize the plan. Implementing the entire plan would take 20-30K. We have done a little at a time and we are slowly getting it done. Rick has done several of the phases himself and we have been very pleased with his hardscape work as well as the bed and planting phases he has done for us. He has always been very responsive to any inquiry or concern I may have. He takes care of everything immediately, from quoting out specific projects to doing them when he says that he will do them. I think the fact that we went with him for a yearly yard maintenance contract has allowed him to be generous when it comes to implementing additional beds and plantings which has saved us some money with those phases depending on how you look at it. Yes it is a cost that I could not have as I have mowed and maintained my lawn for years. But I was not nearly as efficient or as reliable as they are with mowing, raking, weeding, aerating and seeding so in my opinion that cost is totally worth the effort, time, and reliability anyway. To me, the fact that he does plantings and projects for us more cheaply than if I contracted someone else to only come in and do it is gravy for us and smart for him as I have decided to continue our contract indefinitely because we are very happy with his reliability and service on regular maintence and the extra time has allowed me to devote more time to raising and teaching my children.
