Description of Work: After one phone conversation and several emails no one even came to give an estimate. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Response from Manus Contracting, Inc
I was asked to look at a small repair and was given a brief description on the phone of the work needed. I informed the owner that the job was below our job minimum and would look at the job only if she understood the minimum price would apply to her job as well. The owner indicated she would get back to me after she decided if to move forward with the repair. I never heard back from the client and assumed the job cost was too high. We have had a minimum size job price we would accept for the last several years, and it was designed to eliminate the smaller jobs that are really more suited to a handyman type company. I always take the time to explain to customers this fact and learn as much as I can about the problem they are having before wasting their time or mine riding to look at a job that I don't intend to accept. Description of Work: Messaged Chris through Angies List about a bathroom remodel. He returned the message within an hour, and after listening to my situation suggested it would be more cost effective and in my best interest to use his tile reference. I appreciated his honesty and reference. Wild definitely call him again with other remodeling needs.

Description of Work: Gary and his team were very prompt in giving me a reasonable estimate when we wanted to renovate our rec room. Gary helped me pick up the flooring and worked with my schedule. We were very impressed with the workmanship and professionalism. Most of all the rec room looks great! I would hire Manus construction for all my major Reno work in future. A++ highly recommended.

Description of Work: I received an e-mail from Chris Manus and he asked me to up-date my rating review comments. I want to be fair on my appraisal of Chris Manus and Manus Contracting. As I stated before, Chris is a very personable young man and I have absolutely nothing against him as a person. He appears to be honest. My reason for these negative comments on his company were because of my experience. The reason for Angie's List is to state your experience with a particular company. When I first scheduled an appointment with Chris he did not show up. I had to call him back to schedule another appointment. This I can not change. This is what actually happened. Chris did finally give me a written quote several days after he came to my house for an appraisal of my problems. Coincidentally, the written quote, for what he would repair my deck and other things we discussed, came to my e-mail box after I had written the first review rating on Chris and his company. His quote came in the same day after I wrote the first rating review. So, there is nothing I can do to change this. Chris did give me a quote in writing as I requested, even though, it was a little late. The main reason I am not going to do business with Manus Contracting is because he was more expensive than my other quotes on this project. I decided to use someone else who is less expensive and someone I think will do the job correctly and on time without delay. I hope this help clear up any misconception about Chris Manus and his company. I would suggest everyone make their own appraisal of Chris and hopefully they will have a better experience than I did.

1. HE WAS COMPLETELY PROFESSIONAL IN HIS DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM 2. THE EFFORT REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE MOLD WAS IMMENSE, BUT HE DID SO SAFELY AND COMPLETELY!! 3. HE DID NOT TRY TO OVER-CHARGE US BY REPLACING THE CABINETWORK....INSTEAD HE CAREFULLY REMOVED AND REPAIRED IT TO A POINT WHERE THE CABINETS LOOKED BRAND-NEW!!! 4. IN THE REMOVAL PROCESS, NOTHING AT ALL WAS SCRATCHED OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY!! FROM START TO FINISH, MR.. MANUS WAS POLITE, PROFESSIONAL, AND COULD BE COUNTED ON TO GET THE JOB DONE. HE WORKED EXTREMELY H****** THIS PROJECT, WHICH WAS NOT AN EASY ONE! HE RECOGNIZED HOW IMPORTANT THE KITCHEN OF ANY HOUSE IS AND HE WORKED LONG HOURS TO GET THE JOB DONE RIGHT, BUT ALSO DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER! I WOULD LIKE TO STRESS HE DID NOT RUSH IN AND OUT, I AM SAYING THAT, WHILE ON THE JOB SITE, HE WASTED NO TIME AT ALL WITH BEING ON THE PHONE OR OTHER DELAYS...HE IS A VERY HARD WORKER!! I WOULD LIKE TO SAY MR. MANUS TAKES A LOT...A LOT OF PRIDE IS HIS WORK! HE DOES HIS WORK AS IF IT WAS HIS OWN HOME. AND, TO ADD TO THAT, WE HAVE NOT SEEN A SINGLE ONE OF THOSE FLIES THAT ONCE FLEW THROUGH THE ENTIRE HOUSE. HE HAD CUT OFF THEIR ENTRY TO OUR HOME AS WELL AS THE WATER THEY NEEDED TO BREED AND MULTIPLY. WE HAVE ALSO HAD LESS HEADACHES AND ALLERGY-RELATED ILLNESSES. THIS GOES TO SHOW HE KNOCKED OUT THE PROBLEM AND DID SO WHILE SAVING US MONEY AND GETTING THE JOB DONE PROFESSIONALLY AND QUICKLY. ALL OF MY FAMILY WOULD RECOMMEND MR. MANUS OF MANUS CONTRACTING, INC TO ANYONE!! I TRUST HIS WORK AND WE HAVE ALREADY MADE PLANS FOR HIM TO COME BACK OUT TO DO OTHER PROJECTS HERE AT OUR HOME. I BELIEVE MR. MANUS DOES THE FINEST OF WORK AND IS A RELIABLE PROFESSIONAL!!
Description of Work: FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, WE HAD NOTICED THAT, AT THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER, WE WERE EXPERIENCING A LARGE INFESTATION OF A SMALL FLY WHOSE ORIGIN OF ENTRY COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. ALSO, THE MEMBERS OF OUR HOUSEHOLD WERE SUFFERING FROM AN USUAL NUMBER OF HEADACHES AND ALLERGY-RELATED ILLNESSES. OUR DOCTOR SUGGESTED THAT A MOLD OR FUNGUS WAS THE CAUSE OF OUR MEDICAL ISSUES AND REGRADING THIS SMALL FLY THAT WAS BEGINNING TO INFEST OUR HOME, WE SENT A SAMPLE OF THIS SMALL FLY TO AN EXTERMINATOR. HE SAID THIS FLY THRIVES ON A VERY WET, DARK ENVIRONMENT. IT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS A "SEWER FLY.." SINCE WE KEEP OUR HOUSE EXTREMELY CLEAN, THIS WAS A TOTAL MYSTERY TO US. WE KNEW WE HAD TO GET SOMEONE INTO THE HOUSE TO BOTH DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE MOLD/FUNGUS AS WELL AS THIS INSECT WHICH ONLY IS FOUND IN WET ENVIRONMENTS. AFTER SEVERAL VISITS & QUOTES FROM VARIOUS CONTRACTORS, CHRIS MANUS OF MANUS CONTRACTING, INC, WAS RECOMMENDED TO US. HE WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WITH A REPUTATION FOR HONESTY, FAIR-DEALING, AND PROFESSIONAL-GRADE WORK. IN REGARD TO THE OTHER CONTRACTORS WHO HAD COME IN BEFORE WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND MR. MANUS, THE ESTIMATES RANGED OVER $40,000 DOWN TO A DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS GOING TO COST US ABOUT $500.00!! TO ADD TO THAT, THE INITIAL OPINIONS OF THESE OTHER CONTRACTORS TURNED OUT TO BE COMPLETELY WRONG!! MY MOTHER MADE THE CALL TO MR. MANUS & TOLD HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN OUR HOME. HE AGREED IMMEDIATELY TO COME OUT & TAKE A LOOK, BUT BEFORE HE EVEN ARRIVED, HE TOLD MY MOTHER THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE WATER LEAKING FROM A DAMAGED PIPE, MOST LIKELY IN THE KITCHEN, BUT SAID HE WOULD COME OUT AND DO A COMPLETE EVALUATION & ASSESSMENT OF OUR HUGE PROBLEM BEFORE GIVING HIS OFFICIAL OPINION OF WHAT SHOULD BE DONE. DURING HIS PROFESSIONAL AND THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF OUR HOME, MR. MANUS NOTICED WATER DAMAGE TO A SECTION OF THE LOWER-LEVEL CABINETS IN OUR KITCHEN AND ALSO DAMAGE TO THE VINYL FLOORING IN THE KITCHEN. AT THIS POINT, WE AGREED TO HIRE HIS SERVICES. HIS FIRST ACTION WAS TO SAW THROUGH THE BOTTOM SHELF OF CABINETWORK DIRECTLY BENEATH THE KITCHEN SINK & IMMEDIATELY, THE DAMAGE WAS NOTICED! THE MAIN DRAINPIPE FOR THE KITCHEN SINK WAS LEAKING WATER. AT THIS POINT, MR. MANUS DETERMINED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM WAS TO REMOVE THE LOWER SECTION OF CABINETS & APPLIANCES AND FIND THE EXACT SOURCE OF THE LEAK. OUR KITCHEN IS IN A "U-SHAPE" FORM, WHICH MAKES REMOVAL OF ANYTHING DIFFICULT. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF SIMPLY RIPPING OUT THE CABINETS ENTIRELY, HE AND HIS CREW TOOK THE TIME TO CAREFULLY REMOVE THE OAK CABINETS, AND THEN CAREFULLY TAKE OUT THE APPLIANCES AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD HE DID SO WITHOUT A SCRATCH OR DENT TO ANYTHING!! BY REMOVING THE CUSTOM OAK CABINETS VERSUS. RIPPING THEM OUT, HE SAVED US TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT WE'D HAD TO HAVE SPENT ON NEW CUSTOM OAK CABINETS!! ONCE EVERYTHING WAS REMOVED, THE LEAK WAS EASILY FOUND. IT WAS A HOLE, ROUGHLY THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL, THAT WAS IN ONE OF THE HOUSES ORIGINAL DRAIN PIPES. THE HOLE WAS ON THE TOP OF THE PIPE, BUT EACH TIME THE SINK WAS USED, A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER WAS LEAKING INTO A SPACE UNDERNEATH THE CABINETS THAT COULD NOT BE SEEN WITHOUT THE TYPE OF INVESTIGATION MR. MANUS HAD DONE. ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE CABINETS, WAS AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF DANGEROUS BLACK MOLD THAT HAD FORMED DUE TO THE WATER LEAKAGE AND DARK ENVIRONMENT. IT WAS A PAINSTAKING AMOUNT OF LABOR THAT MR. MANUS DID TO SAFELY REMOVE ALL OF THIS MOLD. ONCE A PLUMBER HAD REPAIRED THE PIPE, MR. MANUS AND HIS CREW TOOK THE TIME TO CAREFULLY RE-INSULATE THE AREA, SPRAY BOTH AN EXPANDING FOAM AND AN ANTI-MOLD COMPOUND, AND DO WHATEVER ELSE WAS REQUIRED TO KEEP THE MOLD FROM COMING BACK, EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR. THIS WAS A VERY PAINSTAKING PHASE OF THE JOB FOR HIM. HOWEVER, WHEN FINISHED, THE MOLD DID NOT COME BACK! ONCE HE WAS ASSURED OF THIS, IT CAME TIME TO BEGIN THE REPAIR OF THE CABINETS. HE DID THIS REPAIR IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE CABINETS WERE VIRTUALLY BRAND-NEW AGAIN AND ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE COULD BE SEEN...EVEN PRIOR TO THE RE-INSTALLATION!! THE CABINETS WERE RE-INSTALLED WITH A LEVEL OF PRECISION THAT EVERY ANGLE WAS LEVEL, LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE NEW AGAIN, AND EVEN MY MOTHER WHO SPENDS A GREAT DEAL OF TIME IN THE KITCHEN COULD NOT TELL THE CABINETS HAD BEEN REMOVED, REBUILT, AND REINSTALLED!! THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH TO THE OAK CABINETS, NOR WAS THERE ANY DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE APPLIANCES THAT WERE REMOVED AND THEN REINSTALLED!! AMAZING!!

After living with the wall to wall carpet in both bathrooms in an almost 20 year old house for almost 5 years we were finally able to remodel both bathrooms. Gary Manus come out to the house in November and gave us a quote on the work to be performed. Even though we thought we have covered all of our bases Gary brought to light questions that we had not thought of making the project go much smoother. We obtained quotes from other contractor but felt more comfortable dealing with Manus Contracting. The demolition started on a Monday morning and within 3 weeks the project was completed. The workers were very respectful of our house and our cat. They put down plastic on the carpeted areas not being remodeled to keep that area from being damaged. The amount of dust created was minimal. We are 100% happy with the work performed and the final outcome.
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of both bathrooms. Removal of wall to wall carpet, shower inserts, vanities, toilets, and wall/ceiling above existing showers. Tiling of both bathrooms including master closets. Tiling of showers. Installation of new toilets and vanities. Adding lights to the new showers. Installation of new hot water heater.

Chris was extremely easy to get a hold of and was prompt with the estimate. He was able to help with an oddly difficult HOA approval and went above and beyond in all aspects of the project. He answered all phone calls and emails immediately. The porch is beautiful and well made. He started and finished as promised. We highly recommend him and will use him again in the future.

In the beginning, Chris discussed with us at length about what we wanted to do. He made excellent suggestions that we had not thought of. Everything went as planned and there were no surprises. It is an unbelievable remodel! Things went smoothly and we were so pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Remodeling a barn into a garage and room with heated space. We replaced masonite siding with vinyl. Added windows, and re-arranged doorways. He created a workshop and double garage with a separate room that can be heated and air-conditioned. It is paneled and has a floating floor. Perfect for our boys! He suggested we change the roof pitch for better rain run-off and for the structure to be more like our house with an A-frame. We also replaced the tin roof with shingles. Concrete was poured to the inside rooms and a pad outside. It was an amazing transformation!

He took the carpet out and installed hardwood floors. He painted the entire house. He completely redid the bathrooms. He installed all new plumbing. It looks amazing. He did custom crown molding for the ceilings. He made me a custom walk-in closet. He did all new insulation and wiring. He is very detail oriented. He is so friendly. We got 4 estimates and his price was the best. He is very dependable.

Chris was careful to take into consideration our budget limitations and the size of the building we would need. Our suggestions were considered carefully and we worked together to keep costs down. There were several delays due to weather but otherwise the work was done rapidly and the surrounding property was re-graded and kept clean throughout. The result was Grade A all the way.

Excellent job. I asked if he could finish before Thanksgiving as we were having company and they were bringing their dogs. They started on Monday morning at 8am and completed the job by 4pm Tuesday, They were very professional and the quality of the work was excellent. I did not need to call them to do any work they did not complete. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Install approx 300 feet of post and 3 rail fencing and screen. Included was digging of holes and cementing of posts. Clear approx 3 feet of overgrowth on outer side of fence. Cleared approx 20 feet in back of fence and provided a run off for water. Everything was done on time, on schedule and at the cost quoted.

The fan was too large to be removed, without removing the ceiling support or the roof rafters, so we decided to push it out of the way and repair the ceiling and build the access. (The attic is not used for storage.) The hall looks great and it is much more energy efficient because the fan grill is gone and the attic door is well insulated. They were very easy to work with, the mess was kept to a minimum and they clean up each day that they worked. They were very exacting with the dry wall seams, you can't see them. I would definitely use them again and I highly recommend them.

Chris did an excellent job -- in punctuality and professionalism as well as in workmanship. He kept in touch with any changes or issues as they arose, made changes and adjustments as needed, suggested ways to make the job turn out better without increasing cost, and finished the job on time and under budget. He was able to open the wall for the doors and insert the header above the door opening without disturbing the existing wall covering. His helper was well groomed and professional. I didn't hesitate to give Chris a key and let him finish work while I was away. Chris also engaged an electrician to move some wires and outlets and install an additional outlet in another part of the house. I was pleased with the electrician and his work. I would definitely hire Chris again.
Description of Work: Chris opened 8 feet of a supporting wall and installed a header (beam) above the opening and within the existing wall to support the upper floor. He then installed sliding French doors between my living room and den that I had previously purchased. He engaged an electrician to move wires and outlets that were in the area being removed and to install an additional electrical outlet elsewhere in the house.

My husband & I are thrilled with our new screen porch & deck. Chris took a rather simple plan & turned it into an extraordinary space. As do-it-yourselfers, we had a hard time justifying the expense but I can honestly can it was worth every dollar. Chris has such an attention to detail & is very talented, he had many innovative ideas plus he has the true craftmanship to follow thru and made each area special. It was a pleasure working with Chris & his guys. I feel very lucky to have found someone with his talent & we will enjoy his work for many years to come. I highly recommend his company & can't wait until we can renovate our master bathroom.

The start date came and went and I had to call to find out why we had a "no show". We reset a 2nd start date and again a NO SHOW, no call, no call back - nothing. I re-arranged other trades around his no show. I finally managed to catch him, after a couple of weeks, by calling him from a new phone number he didn't recognize, and he told me why he had not communicated with me and why he again was a no show. I agreed to allow him one more chance(chance number 3) to redeem himself and he totally blew me off. I continued to call him but to no avail. In my opinion, Manus Contracting is unreliable and unprofessional. A true disappointment, especially considering how he sold himself to me when we first met onsite. The total lack of communication and inability to meet a schedule is a prime indicator of a poor performer. I will not recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I discovered Manus working on another home in the subdivision. He walked my property/project, helped develop a list of work to be done, we agreed on rates, and we set a start date. The work was to include interior painting, installation of plumbing and electrical fixtures, a deck repair, an outside building siding repair, pressure washing, an exterior stair fix, and other miscellaneous interior remodeling/repair type work. Estimated value $1000-$1500. Potential schedule impact - high.

Response from Manus Contracting, Inc
Unfortunately, the Member did not receive the treatment he deserved.I was hired to do the job,and gave a start date.Just as the start date arrived,we found out that my mother in law had an opportunity to have surgery before her original scheduled date for a lobectomy. She was diagnosed with lung cancer, and was awaiting surgery. As a father of two young children,7 and 2 years old,I was suddenly the only baby sitter. My wife quickly bought a plane ticket and flew to be with her mom for the surgery.I DID explain this to the Member and promised to get back in touch when things settled down.My wife was away for 10 days, and I was not able to reconnect with the Member.I assumed he had moved ahead with repairs,as most people do.No more was said between the customer and myself, and I checked here to see I had a negative report, and was shocked.I will say that if this is the only way I received a negative report,I will gladly post a response for all to see.I guess I could have upcharged and sub-contracted the work to someone else, but that is not how we have earned our great reputation.I am sorry any customer has a bad experience with Manus Contracting. Overall excellent experience from start to finish. Call them before you order from Barnpros and save yourself about half the cost. I hired Manus Construction to build a 36' x 36', 6 stall Horse Barn on my property. I had a general idea of what I wanted in a barn, stalls, tack room, work area but was unsure of many details. I discussed my plans with Gary (Manus) who gave me honest and sound advice about constructing a functional barn. 6 weeks after our initial discussion my barn was complete; and to my surprise came out better than I had imagined. The quality of work and materials used were both exceptional; They worked quickly, efficiently and cleaned the site as they went. I would recommend Manus Construction to anyone who is looking to have a barn built; Gary has built a few barns in his time and it shows.

They are doing a fantastic job. They are doing ceramic tile in the bathroom and are laying hardwood floors in the kitchen. They are also putting all new vanity for the bathroom, a new tub and tiling around the tub and also put me a handicap step in. They are doing interior painting and putting in 5 doors. They are always on time and always clean up after themselves. They do exactly what they say that they are going to do.

We moved here from Minnesota to an older home that needed a lot of work, especially the kitchen. We worked with Manus Contracting and the end result is amazing. We got a brand new kitchen (Chris has an artistic eye and can make a small kitchen larger by moving things around - appliances, desks, etc.) and we couldn't be happier, it turned out awesome in every way. Our family will spend a lot of quality time together in the warm and welcoming (and well-organized) kitchen that Chris designed. What we love most is that he is open to suggestions, does not push anything on you, he "tells it like it is" and is truly a man of his word. He also did a beautiful front porch where there was none, and it is still the talk of the neighborhood our family will enjoy our front porch and spend a lot of time there, too. We have Chris to thank for building us environments that enhance our family time together, and if you are lucky enough to have Chris do your project, you too will see and experience what we do. There are contractors out there we met several, and there just aren't many that we found who are true to their word, honest, fair (not greedy) and fun to work with. We actually looked forward to seeing Chris and his "crew" every day and now we count them as family friends whom we will invite to dinner and spend time with. That's Chris's motto actually, he will provide the service that makes you want to have him as your friend after the work is said and done. Who can say that about their re-modeler?
