Asheville Garage Door, a family-owned business, has progressively grown over the years. We are locally owned and operated by David C. and Marie L. Hall. The company offers sales, service and installation of residential and commercial garage doors and electric garage door openers. AGDS sells a full line of quality garage doors in every price range. AGDS specializes in carriage house garage doors in steel or wood in a wide variety of designs.
The garage door openers are extremely quiet and we are very happy with the products installed and the service provided. We really love the exterior outdoor garage opener. It gives us the freedom to work outside in our yard without the worry or hassle of someone gaining access into our home through an open garage. When we're ready to go inside we just enter our code and the garage door opens! The codes can be changed as needed or set up to give other family members access to your home on a temporary code basis. We wanted the Coach brand garage doors for their quality, warranty and competitive price. That's what Asheville Garage Door Service provided for us. The installers from Asheville Garage Door Service are extremely knowledgeable and did a wonderful job for us. We would use them again and we certainly recommend them.
Description of Work: installed 2 new garage doors and 2 new automatic garage door openers and 1 exterior opener. The garage door openers are extremely quiet and we are extremely happy with the products, the service and we love the outdoor opener. The outdoor opener is a great feature when working outside and you're away from the garage; it allows you to keep the door closed until you're ready to go back inside your home.

David came by to diagnose the problem with my garage door opener. Carefully heard my desire to keep my original wooden door, described options for repair, gave a detailed estimate, scheduled the work. Installation day, 2 courteous workers arrived exactly on time, went over the list to be accomplished, worked quickly, explained how new system worked and explained charges.

Asheville Garage Door Service did an excellent job. The guy came out, looked at it, said what’s required, it’ll take this long and cost this much. He did as promised. Things worked. Well done. No surprises. No questions. He shows up when he’s suppose to. I've been having them service work for 40 something years. I can tell the difference. The price is in normal guidelines. Not too high. Not the cheapest out there. It was in line with what it should have been.

Everything was exceptional. The price was very fair. Two guys came out and worked great together. We couldn't asked for it to have tuned out any better. They came when they said, they weren't there too long, they cleaned up after themselves, and explained how everything worked. I would recommend them to others!

David Hall made the estimate and ordered the new garage door and remotes in late December. His crew of two men came in January when they promised, removed our old wooden door, tension springs and track. They installed everything new, but were able to use our motor - which was not that old. They installed an exterior remote and programmed new remotes for our cars. All of this was done within three hours, and they hauled away the old stuff. The new door seals infinitely better and the motor is quieter because the springs were adjusted properly to carry the weight of the door. Very courteous, very fast and efficient!
Description of Work: Removed old door and spring mechanism. Replaced with a modern and safer torsion spring system. Kept our motor.

It was fortunate that I called Asheville Garage Door Service, because the whole door-lifting assembly needed to be replaced and it would have taken me a while to figure that out. In an hour and a half, two men were in and out, completing the assembly. They arrived on time, did a good job and answered my questions at a reasonable price (Sears would have charged just about as much but told me they had no installers in the area). I got the recommendation from Angie's list - it was a good choice.
Description of Work: I had purchased a new motor assembly for a garage door. The circuit board on the old motor assembly had been damaged by lightning. I had intended installing the motor myself but could not get to it for a while.

I called these guys in the afternoon on a weekday, and they were at my house within an hour!! They just happened to be on another call that was near my neighborhood, but I was so grateful that they took time out of their schedule to swing by and look at our problem. One side of our garage was not opening properly. The metal frame was coming off the door, causing all sorts of structural issues. These guys not only came out quick, they fixed the door by simply adding some new screws to the existing door frame and readjusting it. The did all this in about 10 minutes... I felt a little dumb that it was such and "easy fix", but totally appreciate them doing it. They could have tried to sell me parts or a whole new door, but they were honest and just did the simple fix that it needed. I appreciate honest people. I would recommend them (and use them again, if I needed too). I felt like what they charged me was a little steep for the small amount of work done, but that is a small complaint. They did good work, so it was probably worth it in the long run.

First they came out at the promised time and looked at the systems and gave a cost to replace the broken system. I thought the cost was fair and we arranged an appointment to do the work. They showed up on time and installed the new opener system. They were knowledgeable and pleasant. They got the work done quickly and neatly. They took all the time needed to explain how the system worked and answer any questions I had. Becausee I had put in the new system, they did not charge me for the preventive maintenance on the two systems. I was not expecting that.

Nothing. I called in and they could not return my phone call. I am sick and tired of this, seems to happen with every top few Angie's list providers now. These are small operations that become popular, not real business's. If a phone call or email is not important and can be ignored, than this is not a top provider. I don't have time to pester you to do your job.

The contractor was prompt to furnish an estimate, and offered to make a separate trip to take out the old door so the jamb could be replaced before installation of the new door. This was done promptly after I got that job lined up. Contractor installed the new door promptly after the new jamb was done. The door's appearance and function are excellent, both inside and from the exterior. As to price, I checked on-line with a few major outlets, and their doors alone often went for nearly as much as this entire job. The estimator and installers were very efficient and courteous. Cleanup was exceptionally good; my garage was neater after the job than before.
Description of Work: Removed damaged double-garage door (coordinating with installation of a new door jamb by another contractor) and furnished and installed a new door, reconnecting it to existing opener. Replaced a faulty door-obstruction sensor.

Contractor gave estimate, including brochures detailing the products to be used in the replacement. We determined independently that the products came from Home Depot, and that Home Depot was, at the time, having a sale. We returned this information to the contractor, and he revised his estimate, allowing us to have a top-quality door installed at the price originally quoted for the lowest quality door. During installation, the contractor determined that the garage wasn't built level, and it became clear that the failure of the previous door (the door itself was broken in the middle, and the lifting mechanism was burnt out) was probably due to the non-level installation. The contractor corrected for this by installing the door on a level, with an oversize gasket at one end to compensate for the (3 inch) inequality. We were not charged for this correction, nor did the contractor suggest any charge. There were some delays getting the material, which the contractor attributed to the special character of the materials we were using. This seemed reasonable, and still does. In fact, the controller we had specified was no longer available, and we eventually used another type. This was handled with a discount from the contractor for the difference in price. After using the new door for a couple of months, we are extremely satisfied. In addition to the upgraded door, which has benefits in R-factor which we have been able to notice, the controls have been moved to a more convenient placement and upgraded to include safety and convenience features we had formerly missed. We highly recommend Asheville Garage Door in general, and David Hall in particular.

They came on time the next morning after I called. I was pleased with the fast response. They were very professional and did more than I expected. They added bolts to other door framing boards that were loose. They applied lubricant to the rollers on the door. They added electrical tape to exposed wires on the door. I was very happy that they checked out the door and took care of other things that needed attention. All of this was done for the $85 service call fee.

I called him at 9:30 yesterday morning and he came out right away. When he first came out he got the garage door back on its tracks and raised it so I could get the car in and out. He was able to get this done all within two and a half hours. I requested an extra standard spring that he didn't have in his truck that day. So he came back the next day, first thing in the morning, to install this special part. They adjusted and lubricated the door and it runs as smooth as silk now. They were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing. No fuss, no muss.

To be fair this was a difficult garage door electronic eye install. The house came with a 1990 Osco commercial grade mechanical garage door opener without an electronic eye. The eye is the device that stops a garage door from closing if a child or pet wanders under the door while the door is in motion. It's an important safety feature that's standard on all of today's doors. I had a helluva time contacting the original manufacturer (long ago acquired by another company) who in turn ended up recommending Asheville Garage (AG) to me. AG had to get a special kind of eye that would work with the old Osco unit. The actual install, while ultimately effective, is kind of cheesy and amateurish looking. My issue is the unit is still very touchy and easy to knock out of alignment. And the install looks bad for the money I spent. BUT they were the only company willing to attempt the repair.

We typically do not work on this type of electric operator or sell this type of equipment. We ordered the specific equipment for his operator. We did not install the original unit. We could have upgraded and updated the customer's equipment and replaced the our brand but the customer requested for us to repair his older machine. We aim for 100% satisfaction with our customers.
