Dennis and his crew did an excellent job! I placed a call, received a response within 24 hours and had an estimate on that same day. I was given the start day and a time of 8:00 a.m. They were on time and ready to go. The entire crew was professional and friendly throughout the job. They were very clean and took great care to sweep, use the shop-vac and this was after completing covering everything that would be in the work area. The job took one day of prep and one to finish for just a couple of hours each day. The ceilings look great and two do not require painting. One room had more severe water damage, so I will have that painted. This was a great experience and I will call them for future projects.
Description of Work: I had three ceiling areas repaired.

I contacted Mr Fixit and he came by our home and went up in the atttic to inspect it. He told me that he didn't see any signs of a active or old leak. We had been told by some other handyman that we had a opening in the roof that was probably responsible for the leak. We haven't notice any additional signs of a leak and came to the conclusion that the leak was due to debris that was stuck between the gables of the roof. He saved us money and time which we do appreciate.
Description of Work: look for leak in the roof.

Mr. Fixit was polite and professional during the entire conversation. He took the time to explain the the process that would be required to go through to do the work I asked about. I was up front about my budget and he was up front about the actual cost. We both agreed that it was not a project that could be undertaken at this time. I appreciate his honesty and for not wasting his time or mine.
Description of Work: Mr. Fixit spent time with me by phone politely listening and asking polite and insightful questions about the electrical work that I was contemplating. He gave me an honest assessment about what the type of work I was asking about would cost given the budget I had to work with. The work was beyond my budget and so we agreed not to do it.

My experience with them was very good. They were on time. The work was good and they cleaned up after themselves. I was very well pleased with what they did. The price was a little bit high, but still at the same time they did a good, quality service. I furnished the shingles on the storage building.
Description of Work: Call Mr Fixit repaired some termite damage on the outside of the house. They re-roofed the storage building for me. They replaced the plywood and re-roofed it. The damage on the outside kind of came through a little bit behind the sheet and they fixed it on the inside of the house.

The entire story of this contractor can be told by looking at the amount of work I had done and the price. But if you want a longer answer...when I called to set up the appointment, I asked if there would be a surcharge for a Saturday appointment or if there was a trip fee and was told no. I also talked about the work I needed done and asked for an estimate. He said he couldn't give me an estimate due to the possibility of work becoming more complex than expected, but said they were very "reasonable". Hmmm, should have been my second clue (first was how the phone was answered). On Saturday they showed up on time, but there were two men instead of one. I assumed they were training someone, since the second guy basically just watched the first guy work--who knows. The men were nice enough, though I'm not convinced they were licensed electricians based on their behavior (an issue I specifically asked about and was told the man being sent was)--the second guy definitely wasn't. The biggest problem though was the amount of time it took to do the work. I just needed them to pull out a couple outlet boxes which had been set too deep (didn't happen-they opened them up and said it couldn't be done), change out a GFCI, figure out what a mystery switch was for, and change the polarity of an outlet. The mystery switch in particular turned out to be a huge time black hole. It took about 15 minutes for them to figure out that the switch was wired so that it would be "on" all the time and that when it was "off" it would shut off the electricity to half the house--cool, good information. I told them to just leave it wired the way it was originally. End of discussion, right? No. 10 minutes later they are still messing with the switch. I told them again not to leave it the way it was, to just put it back together and finish up the other work. Seven minutes later, repeat of prior experience. 20 minutes later, I see them--both--still messing with other switches and ask what they were doing. They said they were trying to figure out why that mystery switch was wired that way. Professional curiosity is one thing, but not on MY dime. The other big time black hole was a trip to Lowes to get a GFCI. You would think that licensed electricians would carry a GFCI in their truck, esp. if they had been told this was one of the jobs they were going to be doing. And if they don't have one, you wouldn't be charged for them to go get basic supplies. I mean painter don't show up to the job without paint brushes and then expect you to pay for their time while they run to the store, do they? But not only was I charged for this "errand", they were gone for over an hour, when Lowes was 5 minutes away. Breakfast was on my time apparently. And when I got the bill (initially $210) and complained the owner got quite nasty, saying I should have been "grateful" that they came out on a Saturday at all!!! I refused to back down, and pointed out the amount of work that was actually completed vs the price and his original statement that there wouldn't be a surcharge for a Saturday, and that if he wanted to train a second guy or have his men take a breakfast break, he needed to do it on his time, not mine. Eventually he dropped the cost by $55, but he was VERY unprofessional about it. This was definitely not a provider I would recommend. Oh and to top it ALL off. They installed some bizarre GFCI the likes of which I've never seen before and did not leave the instructions. Now the blasted thing is tripped or doing some strange automated monthly test, and I can't use the outlet at all. To sum it all up...whatever you do, DON'T call Mr. Fix-it.
Description of Work: Changed out a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter in my bathroom (which is now unusable) and reversed the polarity of a outlet in my bedroom. They also opened up a couple outlets and a switch and then returned them to their original condition. Original cost was $210 before I complained.

Response from Call Mr Fixit
Dear Ms "Know it all"!! If you thought that we would sit by idle and let you write such a scathing report without our response, think again! First of all, since you know so much about pricing and invoicing I'm sure this will be simply a refresher for you. YES you should have been more than appreciative that we showed up on Saturday for a reduced rate. Normally electrical service calls are $125 -$150 PH, which includes an electrician and a helper. If the helper stood around and didn't appear to be doing anything SO WHAT!! Your entire comments are riddled with one concern, the cost. It is painfully obvious that your motivation is what you were charged for the repairs. First of all, your outlet boxes were installed improperly, YOU were not willing to pay the associated costs to repair them correctly and told the repairmen to leave them "as is" Remember during your invoice" training" that normally electricians time begin from the time they leave their shop, (this time is what a TRIP CHARGE IS) not the minute he arrives at your home, You were not charged for the trip. Secondly, electricity is an investigative process (not plug and play) but i'm sure you and all your training understand this. If you stood around and counted minutes as the men worked, a major error or misunderstanding during your invoice manual test. There are only 1/2 hour billings and full hour billings, most companies charge for any part of an hour . Finally, we do not carry replacement GFCI's because of style and color, as a frugal shopper you understand this , RIGHT? So when the men went to Lowe's and you counted the minutes for driving and an alleged "biscuit stop" (pitiful ) you forgot shopping and checkout. The bottom line is that you rushed the men and scrutinized every step during your repairs. If your repairs were not completed properly and the repaired items were not working, I'M POSITIVE someone as astute as you are wouldn't have paid us anything. Instead, you called and squabbled over a few minutes of time. These are the same men that have received numerous accolades for their electrical work here on Angie's List, Suddenly they are knowledgable enough to satisfy you. I doubt it... The only thing you were trying to satisfy was your own greed. And PLEASE, don't Call Mr. Fixit. We enjoy working for honest customers and go out of our way to provide a quality service to them. Denis, AKA Mr. Fix it ,was a very nice man. He was prompt. However, I do not feel like I not get my money's worth. The columns on the porch had to basically be rebuilt.. This appeared to be impossible as the wood they cut did not match the size of the columns and it looked like they used a hack saw without sanding, very rough edges. They also left paint on my porch and trees, not to mention cigarette butts and tools in my yard. I was so disappointed, my husband called from Afghanistan to speak to Mr. Fix it. Denis did go back and remove some paint and tried to even some of the railings that were uneven. According to him, the wood (which was re-used by the way) was not even. I'm not sure why it cost so much when they had to purchase very little material and the craftmanship was awful. I thought by paying a little more, I would get better quality..I was wrong. The workers were not professional and took no pride in their work. Because they also repaired some rotted wood around the gutter, I did not give them an F. I was very disappointed and will not recommend or use this company again. Yes, and the great thing about reciepts and pictures are that they last forever!

Response from Call Mr Fixit
This customer started her experience with an outright LIE. First of all the job was not a $3000 job it was $1940. (I could have done the entire porch for that amount.) Instead she wanted the cheapest job possible by simply to pick and choose which things would be replaced. The job was not to replace he entire porch it was to remove several balusters , replace the top railing and replace some of the individual porch post boards. Had I simply painted the items I replaced as agreed in the contract the porch would look like clean spots along with dirty weathered areas. INSTEAD WE PAINTED THE ENTIRE RAILING. The porch was in hideous shape with wood rot. I suggested that she rebuild the entire porch with vinyl because her porch faces the direct sun and any wood used there would twist and warp. The trim used to wrap the porch post is made of vinyl. I explained this to her that it would not rot like the wood trim that was removed, The posts had to be disassembled and re assembled in order to remove one or two of the boards. Additionally, there were a few drops of paint on the porch that we returned and removed however, I showed her the paint that was there before my arrival on her job where someone sloped paint on the already rotted balusters and dropped paint all over the porch, and now almost 1 year later she recalls me leaving a drop. Lastly, she paid us promptly upon completion.. After reading her fabricated recollection of the facts. I would agree, that if this was what happened (but it is not)I would be dissatisfied and would not have paid for the work. She was a nice lady too however her facts and recollection of events were less than truthful. That's the great thing about Angie's List. we the contractors also get to respond when customers skew the truth. Sort of like putting lipstick and a ribbon on a pig.... It's still a pig... Dennis showed up a day early after I emailed him which was extremely convienient for me. He was very professional, polite and respectful. But that's where all the good comments stop. I had him look at fixing some wood rot around my two sliding glass doors on the upper lever, rear deck. Immediately he says it's going to cost $1200 just to remove the doors and put them back in. That's before he does any repair work! Then he couldn't give me a quote until he took the doors out, but did say it wouldn't be more that $2500! I asked him if I would take the doors out myself, would that have change the price and Dennis said that's easy and won't change anything. Needless to say, I was looking at my watch for the second guy (Brian, with Home Improvement Solutions) to show up. Brian did the job for $420! A huge difference in price! I won't be calling Mr. Fixit for anything ever again, no matter how polite and professional Dennis is!

I cant say enough abou Dennis and his team. Always on tIme, and allways cleaned up at the end of the day, and also both times I have used Mr. fix it they have finished early with the project. The second time I used Mr. fix it was on a different house and the transformation was incredible! Night and day! I would highly recommend Dennis and his team to anyone looking to have quality work done to your home that will last a life time Cindy Rhodes
Description of Work: I had so much done to my house so let the list begin........ It started with wanting old linoleum flooring in my bathroom ripped up and putting down tile, which turned into have all kinds of water damage under the flooring. In the back of my head I had a feeling that is what we were going to find out when he ripped up the linoleum but I was hoping for the best. So we gut the bathroom because of the cast iron tub we had to get under it, bye bye tub and hello new bathroom. It was badly damaged so it took some time but when all was said and done I had a beautiful new bathroom with new flooring, new tub, new vanity, new ceiling fan. :) Then we goto the deck, most of the boards were in pretty bad shape and the deck was two levels, so they ripped up the whole deck and put down a gorgeous one level deck that is so much bigger and absolutely gorgeous! Now to the kitchen, not a whole lot of work done in the kitchen but I did have French doors that were put in that lead out to the fantastic deck! Also they wired and installed a dishwasher into the house which was much needed!! It is 2013 isn't it? What else, oh yes the outside of the house completely received a complete face lift! Brand new siding and windows through out the house. The whole look of the house changed and has added so much more value it's unbelievable. We will be able to enjoy this house for many more years to come. Thanks Mr. Fix it! Cindy Rhodes

Dennis and his electrician, Scott came over, spent two hours figuring out and fixing our electrical wiring problem. They were nice, personable, cleaned up their mess. They explained what the problem was and how they were fixing it. The house belongs to our son, who is a recovering wounded warrior, my husband and I are staying with him right now to help him out. Dennis is retired military. When he handed me the bill, it had a zero balance with a note that read, "Good luck to you Soldier!" He shook our son's hand, thanked him for his service.

We love 4+ hours away from the job and one of us celebrated an 85th birthday (with lots of family coming) immediately as the job was over so we were limited to the trips we could make back and forth. Dennis met us initially on the date and time agreed on. We discussed the job and made a plan. He gave us an estimate within a few days. The job started on the date we had agreed on and took seven days. We came on the first day to give him a key and were not present for the rest of the work. We communicated mainly by e-mail and the occasional phone call. We did have one communication problem regarding the height of the vanity mirror which we were unhappy about. Dennis returned on a day we could come back and not only fixed the height of the mirror but fixed our garbage disposal at no additional charge. We were very happy with the way the job turned out.
Description of Work: Dennis made a powder room by borrowing space from a laundry room and the master bathroom. This involved taking down a wall, making a new wall, removing an existing shower and putting in a smaller shower. I purchased the shower for the master bath and a toilet and vanity sink and mirror for the powder room in addition to the job cost listed above. Dennis also made an alcove wall to fit the vanity into. It was a lot achieved in a limited amount of space. He reworked plumbing and electrical for a lot of the job. He put down a vinyl floor I chose and painted the rooms. He put in the vanity fixture as well as two other fixtures not associated with the powder room. I had requested this extra work. He also put in vinyl doors to hide the laundry area.

What a pleasure working for this member. I could hardly beleive the job another contractor left this family with. I felt sorry to see that someone in the same bussiness as I could leave a customer with such a poor job on the laminate flooring in their home. Originally my job was to drywall the bathroom, we put the vinyl floor in for her at cost only (no Labor) hopefully making her feel better after such an experience with local contractors. We thank Angie's List for giving us the opportunity to right some of the "wrongs out there and give good people what they paid for.. V/r Dennis Owner Call Mr Fixit

I got a return call from Mr. Fixit the day after I contacted him (in fairness, I called at about 5:30pm), and he was out in 2 days to give me an estimate. He called me back the same day to say that his crew would be able to come out and do the work the next morning at 8am. True to his word, his guys were pulling up outside the house at 7:50, and they had the work done by 11. OVerall, it was a good experience, and I am going to call him again to have some other work done inside the house.

I was overall very satisfied with their work, and would use them again. This company is somewhat busy and it took a while to get the work scheduled, but when they began, they worked straight through and finished in the estimated number of days. The work was of good quality, they made sure they understood what I wanted, and called to ask questions and confirm when they had questions. The men who performed the work were very friendly in a professional manner, and they left my house neater than they found it. The company is expensive and the cost went higher than estimated. However, I have no issues with the quality of the work done, and I am satisfied that they did all they could to avoid over charging me, as well as finding & suggesting more economical solutions where possible.
Description of Work: Call Mr Fixit performed electrical, plumbing, and framing work in a house I am remodeling. I made initial contact with the owner, Dennis, and he was very pleasant and informative. The next day he arrived and ready to go to work...however I thought I was about to be taped in an episode of the Discovery Channel's "Duck Dynasty'! The "Beards" had arrived, Scotty and Mike, but Dennis had a ways to go on his beard, lol. They accessed my current situation and wasted no time in tackling the problem areas I had. They were very polite, professional, and pretty personable...by mid afternoon my job was completed. I was disappointed that it wasn't the 'Duck Dynasty', and I would not be on TV...but very pleased with their work...if they ever run out of work, they may have another calling for TV. lol I really liked the guys and would not hesitate to call them again.

What an absolute pleasure working for this member! She was so helpful during such an arduous job, cleaning up behind us as we went; she had many stories of her days as a contractor which were easily verifiable by their content. She didn’t have a beard (lol) but her personality matched exactly with the working "beards". It's easy to go above and beyond for such personable charming customers. Thanks for finding us on Angie's List and making it work for us. P.S. being retired military, I haven't had any facial hair for 20 + years when I finally got to see some it was grey LOL. Our back deck with surrounding built-in benches was completely replaced with absolutely beautiful planks. The work was actually begun a day before we had been told to expect it to begin, which was great! We had expected the wood to be dropped off on one day, then the work to begin the following day, but the rebuild started the same day. The craftsmen were efficient and also finished far ahead of when we thought they would. The cleanup was good, and the completed project looked beautiful, but in less than a year, the planks began to warp and my husband had to replace one which had warped and lifted to the point of being dangerous. We also did not expect the planks to weather and need refinishing in less than a year's time.

Dennis promptly returned my initial phone call and we were able to setup a walk through estimate within a couple of days. It took a week from start to finish however most of it was due to rain. Dennis is very knowledgeable and it was very convenient to be able to have the wide range of services done by one person/company. His price was a little higher than I originally expected but in the end it was worth the cost because of convenience and quality of work. The pressure washing made a huge difference, especially on the patio however there were some missed spots on the side of the house that was hard to reach. The paint on the porch turned out really nice. Before they began Dennis called to double-check the paint color because I ended up buying the wrong color. He made a run to Lowes, found the correct color and saved me some time and money. The 2 air conditioning units were installed in old windows and had been in place for so long that there was a gap between the window and sill that he fixed. I couldn't see the caulk or where the repairs were made the job was so well done. I wasn't happy with the paint job on the window sill however Dennis easily fixed this when he came back to the house. The workmen also left all their trash behind which I had to clean up. I called Dennis and he apologized and ensured that when they came back to the house to finish the work that I was completely happy before he left. The window sills were repainted and areas where the house needed to be rewashed were done. All in all I was happy with the quality of work and especially happy that Dennis wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied and that I got my money's worth. I will use his services again at my home if/when I need it.
Description of Work: I contacted and hired "Call Mr Fixit" for some repair and update work needed at a rental property. The list of jobs that needed to be done was pressure washing the entire house and patio, painting the porches, replacing/painting the back screen door, installing new smoke detectors, installing an outdoor motion-sensor light, removing 2 old air conditioning units, sealing and painting the window sills and finally changing some outdoor light bulbs.

I installed drywall into an unfinished attic space. When I was done, i discovered that the electrical outlets were set too far back in the wall. I contacted 'Call Mr. Fixit' at 9:34 on the morning of the 16th to have him stop by and take a look at the problem. He said that he was already in Fayetteville on another job but would stop by that afternoon. He arrived quicker than I expected (around 11:00), took a look at the outlets and told me he could have it done that day. Dennis called a pair of his workers and while we waited for them, I showed him the loose wall sconce and the rotted garage door trim to get an estimate on those projects. He not only gave me the estimate, he told me that he could complete the other two jobs while they were fixing the electrical outlets. His workers arrived, were friendly and job focused. Dennis and his crew got to work and were finished with all three jobs by 3:00. I was very happy with the fast response and quality of their work. The call Mr. Fixit extremely professional. Dennis even took the time to show me how to produce smoother seams when 'mudding' the seams between sheets of drywall for sharper looking walls. Overall, it was a great experience and I would use this company again.

Mr. Fix It came to take a look at my bathtub tile project right on time. He came shortly after my initial call. After we chatted about how I wanted the finished project to look, he made professional suggestions that I was COMPLETELY unaware of. Once i had made my decision, he explained in detail how the project would go. Step by step and why each step was necessary. This was VERY comforting to me as I am a layman trying to save face with the hubby. (The last home improvement project he left me in charge of didn't go as planned at all!!!) Once all was settled on, Mr. Dennis scheduled around MY TIME (very important as we just had twin baby girls) when the project would begin. His team was nothing short of true professionals! I received courtesy calls reminding me of our scheduled appointment and while in my home working they were such gentlemen! Again, with new twins in the home, they were as kind and quiet as a family friend! All of Mr. Fix It's team !! The project was also completed sooner then scheduled! Mr. Dennis checked in with me a few days later to assure I was happy with the end results. THANK YOU MR. FIX IT for helping me save face with the hubby! I know have that "go to guy" for all our future home projects!!
Description of Work: Mr. Fix It and his team water-proofed and installed tile with a decorative border around my master bath's garden tub.

IF YOU LIKE COMPANIES THAT ONLY DO ESTIMATES BY PHONE THEN THIS ONE IS FOR YOU, AS MR FIXIT STATES "TRUCKS DO NOT RUN ON AIR" SO $425 FOR A ROOF LEAK WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE LEAK. I ASKED "WHAT IF ONLY CAULKING WAS NEEDED" MR FIX IT SAID "DO IT YOURSELF". OF COURSE THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE BY EMAIL, GLAD I DID NOT MAKE THE NEXT MOVE.

Response from Call Mr Fixit
Thank you for your reply.... Many Angie's List members do read these reports and laugh about them to me. Now that you have thoroughly lodged your foot in your mouth. You can be one of the laughs as well for misrepresenting the truth to the many Angie's List customers and we can expose you for exactly what you are. Here is a transcript of the actual email correspondence between us and this member. This one was sent thru Angie's List. TUE 9:39 AM JAN 15 2013 I HAVE A SMALL LEAK IN MY WALK IN CLOSET ON THE SECOND FLOOR I NEED FIXED My initial response was JAN 15 5:59PM Greetings Member, Thsnks for finding us on Angie's List. Standard roof repair service charge is $425, which includes replacement of up to 1square of shingles. Please give me a call @ 910-303-0256 to schedule your repair, we do not do estimates for leaks, we just fix them at a standard rate. Respectfully, Dennis Owner Call Mr Fixit This member chose to send a sarcastic email instead of calling. Then, his first response was via his personal email.WED 3:07 PM Wow, even if a leak only requires caulking? That is a good deal for you, but I would not trust a company that does not even want to take the time to look at the problem before deciding what the amount could or could not be. Good luck, but not with my check book. I responded in the same disrespectful sarcastic tone which he was well deserving of on WED 7:01 PM Member, Wow, I've been reparing roofs for a long time. I've never "caulked "a roof leak, that just prolongs the problem . Ceilings do not leak! If all you beleive that you need is some caulk, a better "deal" would be, to do it yourself. Trust whom you want, our reputation speaks for itself. I've done hundreds of estimates and an overwhelming percentage of them are simple repairs and all require shingle replacement. The charge breaks down as initial assessment, removal, go and purchase shingles, replace, clean-up Since my truck does not run on air and my crew does not show up for free, we simply have a standard rate for roof repair as I explained in my first reply. Good luck with your trust issues Dennis Summary: His attempt to take snipits of emails and try to appear as a victim in this situation by his comments has backfired and all the Angie's list members and maybe some of his neighbors will get a good laugh and see this for what it is. (A sad attempt to post a negative comment for a company that enjoys a great reputation for the quality and price of it's work) Keep writing!!! Dennis Owner
