Dennis was great and very professional. I spoke with him after purchasing the deal and received constant communication until the job was complete. He repaired and replaced my shingles that were blown off from the recent storm and cleaned up upon completion. I felt confident with his work and will definitely recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Roofing service call Big Deal
The work started in the master bathroom. We had a very 70’s blue tile bathroom that measured about 12’ x 4”. it could only accommodate one user at a time comfortably. Attached was a large unused vanity room. Dennis designed a new bathroom that offered a tiled walk-in shower, double vanity, closet for the toilet and a closet. The fixit crew demoed the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling and in about 2 weeks we had a very spacious and modern master bathroom with all the bells and whistles of a modern high end home. The shower was moved, the toilet was moved, ceiling vents were installed and vented outside, 6 new can lights including 2 in the walk-in shower, new tile floor and shower, new double vanity and AC vents were rerouted. The job was finished with a custom built stained double door and it created a very impressive entry into an entirely remodeled room. We are very very happy with not only the quality of the work but also the design concept Dennis came up with. I should also mention that all the work was done in our bedroom. The guys took the time and steps necessary to make sure it was cleaned every day so as not to disrupt our lives. This was an A+ job in price, quality and the crews overall awareness of the fact that the job was in one of the most important areas of the home. Next Dennis, Mike and Tommy went to the other side of the house and began removing all the wood paneling. This was a big job. 4 rooms were remodeled from the floor to the ceiling again. In these rooms there was woodwork that was original to the house. The crew carefully removed all the wood trim and reinstalled all of it without any damage. very nicely done. In the great room the Fixit crew installed (including wiring) 12 can lights, 1 ceiling fan, finished the drywall, refinished and painted the ceiling, installed new crown molding and baseboards, painted the walls and trim, installed blinds and installed nice engineered hardwood flooring. The same was done in the mudroom, mudroom bathroom and laundry room. These three areas all had new heavy-duty vinyl floors installed as well as light fixtures, steel exterior door and frame, dryer vent routed outside, crown molding and baseboards installed, 4 light fixtures and new laundry room countertop with large stainless farmhouse sink installed. Once that area was completed the work moved outside where Dennis and the crew demolished a very old wood staircase at the back door and rebuilt it from the ground up. The entire staircase with landing were built on sight with a extra step added. That extra step makes a big difference. While outside the crew rebuilt our crawl space access door and matched the board and batten on the siding. Again, nicely done. Dennis and the guys also installed a new guest bathroom counter top with two sinks and fixtures and at the end of the job blew 10” of new insulation into the attic. All told the Call MrFixit crew was here working in my home for just over a month. I never had a single problem with the crew or the quality of the work. The scope of the work was considerable. The Fixit crew made our house into the home we now have. It was worth every dime, was finished early and cost less than we had budgeted for. Almost anything you would call a contractor to do to your home was done here. These guys are true skilled tradesmen.
Description of Work: complete demolition and remodel of master, guest and mud bathrooms, great room, laundry room, mud room. installed 5 sinks, 21 light fixtures, ceiling fan, 6 sink fixtures, 3 dead bolts, 3 toilets (master bath in custom privacy closet), 1 double vanity, 2 new countertops, walk-in shower, drywall, crown molding and baseboards, custom window seats, hardwood, tile and vinyl flooring, blinds, 2 AC intake vent covers, insulate attic MrFixit also finished all the drywall and painted everything from floor to ceiling. The crew performed all plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, framing, and masonry work. Much of the work involved removing and replacing wood trim that was original to the house. Big kudos for managing that without any damage to the old farmhouse accents.

They worked with us for 3 days on a variety of projects and were on the job every day at 8:00 AM. Not only were they punctual, but worked organized, and maintained a clean environment in our home throughout their time on the job. They're professional and do a quality job at a fair price. I've already recommended them to friends and highly recommend Call Mr. Fixit to handle a wide range of projects. They do it all!!
Description of Work: I had several projects for Mr. Fixit. They "opened" a small doorway to enlarged it, and installed new door and threshold area. Remodeled a small bathroom room with wainscot and chair rail. Installed crown molding in our Great Room, had some deck repair completed, along with other misc. smaller jobs.
I don't bother to shop for estimates anymore. I know he will show on time, I know the work will be beyond my expectations and I know his crew will pay exceptional attention to every detail. I won't hire another contractor. No need.

The work was completed quickly and in a professional manner.
Great overall experience using Call Mr. Fixit. Dennis is professional, courteous and knowledgeable in addition to doing great work. We had several pieces of vinyl siding warped from BBQ grill heat. We also had a mailbox that had started to tilt which we asked him to reinforce. He came out and did the estimate the day after we messaged him on Angie's List. The estimate was reasonable for the work and he explained everything that was included in the cost. The mailbox was relatively simple in that he poured concrete at the base; the mailbox is now secure and does not move as it did before (due to the soft ground). The vinyl siding repair was very professional. Unfortunately, the company that made our siding 8 years ago was now out of business. Dennis and his crew searched through several stores before coming up with a close match. As the repair was in a very visible area and the vinyl was not an exact match, Dennis and crew pulled existing siding from an inconspicuous part of the house and put the new siding there before replacing the warped siding. The work looks great, the crew was professional and the price was very reasonable. Would recommend to anyone needing general repair/construction services.

It went very smoothly! They were on time - actually a little early. The manager is a perfectionist like me so the work was high quality and met my tough standards. Multiple people came so they weren't in my home very long and they cleaned up when finished (swept the floor). Will definitely use them again!

The second time they couldn't identify the leakage on the roof because they seemed uncooperative. They seemed not to want to work during the weekend. The following day they came with an over price. They did not have the equipments the second time. They also turned out o be rude and unprofessional. They didn't take the time to identify the cause of the leakage from the ceiling. I had to get another contractor.

They took an hour to "run to the store" for a ground fault circuit breaker, which they should have had in the truck to begin with since that's what I asked them to do. Even if they had to pick one up, the store was 5 mins away--it should have taken 20 mins AT MOST. The spent another 20 mins playing with a switch which I told them specifically several times to ignore. And then they tried to charge $275 for work that should have cost $100 at most. I argued with the manager to get the price reduced to $200, but I would NEVER call them again!

We called Mr. Fixit about installing wainscoting below the chair rail. Dennis had much better ideas - he removed the current moldings and dry wall so the wainscoting would not protrude from the wall above, and installed nicer chair rail than what we had. He was very concerned about making it look nice. The work is gorgeous, and everyone was punctual, professional and friendly. I would not hesitate to hire them again or recommend them.

Dennis is extremely hard to get a hold of as he and his associates are very busy. I have to say he and Tommy and Mike are worth the wait. If you need anything fixed around the house don't go the cheaper route and learn from my mistakes as it cost me double to have it fixed. The old adage "you get what you pay for" seems applicable. From here on out I am "calling Mr. Fixit" and have it done the right way the first time. Kudos.

He did a great job, and he was punctual.
Description of Work: We had a chandelier installed in the bathroom which has a high ceiling, by Call Mr Fixit.
The initial contact with Mr. Fixit was via phone call after I had left a voicemail. Mr. Fixit (Dennis) called me back within a few hours and we discussed exactly what I wanted done. During the initial phone call, I made it clear to Dennis that the exterior door and frame I needed replaced were custom sized, that they had been damaged during previous attempted break-ins, and that I had the measurements of the door ready for him. I told him the exact measurements of the door (32"W x 72"L), but left out the measurements for the frame. We set up an appointment for him to come out and look at the door and take his own measurements, which I readily agreed to. My wife was home to meet him for the initial appointment. She showed him to the door, whereupon Dennis proceeded to take measurements of the door and the frame. He then discussed with my wife exactly what we were asking for again, and after he was satisfied, he departed my residence, telling my wife that he would order the door and it would take several days for the door to come in, at which point he would contact us to set up an appointment to install it. Up until this point, nothing seemed amiss, but it was after this point that things went down hill quickly. The next contact we received from Dennis was a text message at 6:49am on Wednesday August 27 saying "7am tomorrow." This text message came without any warning or discussion, and my wife was forced to adjust her work schedule ad hoc to meet his demand, as Dennis stated that he was otherwise completely unavailable to do the job until September 8, nearly 2 weeks later. This was the first "red flag" in a series of incidents. After returning home from work on Thursday, August 28, I immediately came face-to-face with the new frame and door. To my utter surprise, the new door was a full 2" shorter than the original door. After asking my wife what had happened, she retold the story to me about Dennis and the work he had done, as well as how poorly he had treated his crew while on the job. She told me that after the door was in place, she immediately noticed the difference in size and mentioned it to Dennis, who then told her that the door was exactly the same size as the old door. When she asked about what to do about this new 2" gap at the bottom of the door, he told her that it wasn't his problem. He also asked her if we had any water or moisture issues with the old door, to which she replied that on heavy rain days we did indeed have moisture issues at the bottom of the door. He then informed her that she could go to Lowe's to purchase a threshold and a sweep in order to make up the 2" difference. After she retold the story to me, I felt at a loss over the issue, and we proceeded to go to Lowe's to find out what our options were regarding door thresholds and sweeps. As it turns out, Lowe's does not carry a threshold or sweep that will cover the 2" gap at the bottom of the door, and even if they did, we weren't willing to place a 1-2" tripping hazard at the foot of an exterior door. We then returned home and I proceeded to measure the new door. The measurements I recorded were 31 7/8" W x 69 7/8" L. After several attempts to call Dennis and reaching only his voice-mail, we attempted to reach him via text message and discuss the problem and how best to get it resolved. Dennis attempted to provide a number of different solutions, none of which were either viable or acceptable, not to mention the extra cost to purchase these items or to have more labor done. He repeatedly attempted to pass the blame on myself or my wife for his miscalculations and ordering mistakes, as well as his attempts to cover up the poor job by telling us what we should do about it. My wife and I agreed that we were completely unsatisfied with the work and would like to see it redone. Dennis agreed to raise the level of the concrete beneath the door (thus creating another tripping hazard) but he refused to replace the door. After we informed him that that was unacceptable, Dennis proceeded to call my wife's phone and demanded to speak with me. The conversation went something like this: Me: Hello? This is Jerad. Dennis: Listen to me. I'm sick & tired of you people harassing me with all your text messages and phone calls! I'm not going to replace your door! Keep your money and do it your-(explicative)-selves! Me: That's fine---(line goes dead) In conclusion, the door frame that Dennis installed was correctly sized and well done. The only real mistake was the door size. If he had been willing to replace the door slab to its correct size, we would have been willing to pay him full price. As it is, Dennis received the first half of the payment at the beginning, but did not receive the second half of the payment. Mr. Fixit's complete lack of professionalism and blatant disrespect to myself and my wife has led us to the conclusion that Dennis is by far the worst service provider we've ever encountered, and based on how he treats his crew, is also a downright bad person. I've come to find this kind of "customer service" with many of the handymen in this area, and I wish it weren't so.

Response from Call Mr Fixit
Thank you for your response! However you failed to accurately articulate the facts of this job. I continue to read and amuse myself looking for any resemblance to the truth. Particularly, how the facts were distorted and revealed later in your own words. Let me start from the beginning. You called me and expressed interest of having a door replaced due to the break-in because you felt the door was not secure enough for your wife while you were away. You also stated you would have done it yourself but, you didn't have any tools. You did not ask the door be lengthened to the concrete base. Had you or your wife conveyed that I would have ordered the door longer. As I said in my text message [that you kindly included] there was a 2" sweep on the bottom of the door. And guess what? that 2" along with the measurement YOU provided equals 72" Special order doors are custom built and can not be returned or exchanged as they do not come from Walmart. This is the first reason I would not replace the door. I was your measurements that I simply confirmed at your home. It was not my ordering mistake that you continue to focus on in your response rather it was your mistake or oversight. As written in my text messages which were professional and polite I offered several solutions to your door. If you expected me to re-order another door for another $400 and than remove and replace it free you really have your own perception of reality. Construction is not a perfect business or procedure, I have absolutely no problem rectifying a mistake for any of the good customers we have the pleasure of dealing with from Angie's List. In this instance the mistake was not mine. One sentence in your response you said what a poor job we did on your door. In the conclusion part you say "the door was correctly sized and well done" with the exception of the length. I'm glad to see that you posted only partial responses for you or your wife via the numerous texts that were sent. because people would get to see the fiber of the conversations that led your to fabricate the last conversation to best fit your story. Have some integrity at least and call it like it was. After the job you wife paid me promptly with a check because the job looked good. You arrived later and were not satisfied, rather than take the responsibility you wanted me to replace the door. It was not that you only paid me half and refused to pay the balance. The truth is that I still have your check and told you I wouldn't cash it because you were not satisfied. Maybe it was the money, I don't know but attempting to "spice up your story" three months later is shameful. You also said that you have come to expect this this type of service with many handyman in your area. First, we ARE NOT handymen but builders. Handyman is someone you hire to fix knobs and minor home repairs that do not require a contractor or CONTRACTOR prices. Sitting and watching every nail be pounded in and every bead of caulk spread as if my men or I would take a piece of dog food from the floor of your basement contributed to me refusing to go above and beyond for you as a customer. Your response on Angie's List show maybe, it's you not all the contractors or as you say handymen.

Call Mr Fixiit's team are skilled tradesmen who are competent in their crafts. I did what everyone should do and got 3 estimates and chose Call Mr Fixit because he displayed exceptional knowledge of the work process, listened to what I wanted, offered great suggestions and presented himself as the most capable and experienced contractor. Dennis showed on time like all the others but his initial assessment was far more in depth and here is why. 1 Dennis looked at the job and offered several suggestions many of which I opted for. His input was based on current market trends that would increase the value of my home and and stayed within the parameters of what we wanted. 2 Dennis took the time to explain what had to be done at each step of the remodel process and explained what problems we could find during the process. No other contractors offered this information which negated any surprises. 3 Dennis then wrote the estimate on site with a complete list or "scope of work" to be done and prices. None of the other contractors could provide this information on site. 4 Dennis let me know up front that add on projects (and there were a few) would not be an issue. He was very professional and very easy to work with. 5 most importantly Dennis's estimates were spot on! No surprises. When work day came everyone showed on time and went straight to work. It was like a military operation which was no surprise as Dennis is a retired Command Sergeant Major. The Call Mr Fixit crew is polite, professional and efficient. The guys were very easy going and personable. I am not only very happy with their work, work ethic, and attention to details but also enjoyed their company. Just good people you won't mind having in your home. If you are looking for hard working skilled professionals then this is the company to call but you better hurry because as soon as my old house sells I plan to have them working in my new home for a couple months. Call Mr Fixit is a professional contracting company and Dennis has a network of professionals who can literally do anything you need or want done to your home at reasonable rates with quality results. Good people, reasonable rates and top quality work = money well spent! On a side note, Dennis noticed me struggling to do some repairs on my old golf cart. On his own time, using his own tools and equipment he assisted me in making the repairs. This is a testament to his helping others outlook and was done at no charge. He just wanted to help where he could. No doubt an attribute developed from his years as a leader and mentor for our Soldiers.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bedroom, finish drywall, move floor vents, repair subfloor damage, and at no charge helped me repair my golf cart using his tools, equipment, and materials.
