I needed several repairs done as quickly as possible and contacted Mr. Fixit. The voicemail message indicated they were scheduled out through mid-August, but I sent a text message anyway to see if they had the capacity to squeeze in the work I needed done. The owner Dennis called me within the hour and came out within a day with his foreman Mike to give me an estimate on time and price. The appearance of our breezeway particularly concerned me (see Description of Work) but I was not sure what to do about it, and Dennis and Mike came up with a great plan to make it look so much better. Mike and his assistant Tommy came out to do the work - great team! They were prompt, courteous, hardworking and cleaned up after the jobs, and they completed the repairs within a few days for the agreed upon cost.
Description of Work: Removed two medicine cabinets and put in new bathroom lights and mirrors. Removed two bedroom fans and put in new light fixtures. Attached bathroom faucets with new hardware. Removed and put in new posts at driveway entrance. Caulked window on roof. Repaired roof truss on garage. Removed six warped breezeway posts, added new concrete pad for one of the posts, leveled breezeway and put in new column breezeway posts. Removed ugly boards on "bird box" (extended box above breezeway underneath side of garage roof) and put on new board to match garage siding.

Response from Call Mr Fixit
[Member Name], Had you listened to the message, you would have learned that we were booked until 25 August and would not be returning calls for projects until then. But obviously you didn't, instead you decided to rate us as an F for frustration. You probably are not someone we would prefer to work for anyways. Good luck to you and right back at you with your "F"

In the main full bathroom, the bathtub remained while everything else was replaced. In the master bathroom, everything (to include the walls) was replaced. Instead of a new bathtub, a full walk-in shower was built after the old tub was removed. In the half bathroom, the floors remained as did the old sink. Everything else (to include the walls) was replaced. One of the greatest characteristics of Mr. Fixit (aside from the high quality work at a fair price), is the fact that Dennis (owner) and his crew were there when they said they were going to be there. Many people, to include myself, have had the very unpleasant experience of waiting for hours if not an entire day, for contractors who don't show up and don't call to say that they aren't going to show up. Another great quality of Dennis, is the fact that he's very experienced in the remodeling arena and knows what colors, tile schemes, mirrors, lights, vanity types, etc. will "work" in the available space. The single greatest thing about Mr. Fixit however, is that their #1 priority and concern is that you the customer are 100% satisfied with the work.

They were highly rated on Angie's list and that is the only reason i went with them. The only thing i can say positive about their service is they showed up on time. The job job did not turn out well, they did very shady work. It is going to cost again a lot of money to fix it and what they did is not worthy the money. He never came back to fix it as he said. I would not recommend them to anybody.

Band repair was required due to termite damage prior to our purchasing the house last year. There was about 3' that needed to be removed and replaced. Mike replaced the eaten/chewed up wood with treated wood and built a support pier for the band with concrete. Mike also replaced two pier supports, that were precariously dry stacked, with proper concrete support piers properly cemented together as the NC Building code requires. They look as pretty as a support pier can look! It is sad to note that the house inspector (prior to purchase) stated that dry stacking support piers were within NC Building code standards. Throughout my extensive research I have found that the inspector was wrong. Go figure... I cannot give you a play by play because I have no desire to go into the crawl space but I have attached what the rotted wood looks like and what the new support piers look like. R-19 insulation was properly installed in our house for the first time by Norbert and Mike in a very expeditious manner. I am looking forward to a much cheaper heating bill this winter. And Dennis took the opportunity to break a sweat when sledge hammering the ugly brick flower bed that more than likely caused the termites to call the house their home prior to us purchasing it. As always, Dennis Kolenc and his crew have impressed me with the quality of their work, materials used, utilizing NC building codes, and of course, their professional, ethical and very humorous attitudes. I will highly recommend him to anyone in need of home repair or the construction of new buildings, decks, kennels, etc.

I contacted Dennis (Mr. Fixit) the first week of April to schedule to have a joist fixed under my house. He told me the week he would be available to come out and said he would follow up the week before to schedule the exact date. Dennis called me as promised and arrived promptly for our appointment. He was also very understanding that I was coming from work and did not show up quite as promptly for our appointment time. Dennis and his team fixed the joist under my house very quickly and the repair is very well done. He even sent me before and after photos to keep for my records. The Mr. Fixit team was very professional and kind, had no issues that my beagle was jumping all over them, and definetely didn't drag out the timeline to finish the project (I couldn't believe how quickly they were done). I picked Mr. Fixit not only because of his great reviews on Angies List, but also his wide scope of services offered. I can honestly say I have found my go to "handyman" for any kind of job I need done on my house. You can always trust that a retired Sergeant Major will get the job done! I also found his price to be very fair and he quoted me right up front on the cost for the work.

I called Mr. Fix It - to ask him about providing a remove/replace shingles estimate and to ask that he contact me to provide a good time that WE 'make a date'. He immediately sent me a message, via Angie's List, and provided me with a 'basic roof repair' cost of $325.00 and that we could discuss a future endeavor for the shingles issue (I knew that I wanted it done but, was in the process of getting several quotes and I had not made a selection of WHO would do it for me). I called him the next day and told him that I work 8-5 (same as he) and if he would kindly call me to schedule when he could get it completed, at his earliest convenience, and he did just that. The very same day, he called (Monday) and told me that he could repair the roof leak for $325 and provide me a quote as early as Tuesday morning 8 am. I asked if this was a 'solid' date as I would need to verify with boss in being late for work the next day and he stated that he would verify with his crew's schedule and give me a courtesy return call. He called me back later on that day; however, I was not able to take the call and he didn't leave a message thus, I called him back after 5:00 to 'inquire' about the status. He did not answer so, I left a message. I 'received' the message from the phone call when I got home that evening and found his 'trailer' sitting in the road outside of my front yard (THANK YOU!!) so, I was pretty doggone positive that he would arrive the next morning. The next morning, I received a call from Dennis @ 7:00 am to 'notify' me that he personally would not be there at 8:00; however, his foreman, David, will be there to get started and that Dennis would be there around 9:00. David showed up at 7:45 am and went straight to work - putting the ladder up and getting the tools he would need. Knocked on the front door to introduce himself and proceeded to climb up on the roof to take a look. David let me know about a nice 'hole' that was in the OSB board and kindly shimmied back up that ladder to take some pictures with my camera (although he is not too 'tech' savvy, he did a GREAT job on those pictures Dennis.....lol). Dennis showed up around 10:30ish (he had a previous 'honey do' item to take care of.....lol) so, it was absolutely understood - and introduced himself and gave me a quote to remove/replace my shingles. I was absolutely flabergasted over the difference in his quote for others I received. Although the cost was 'comparable' and he came in a bit higher than 2 others I had received, with the information he gave me (shingle make/style and year), I felt absolutely comfortable with his advice and will give him my money versus the others quoted. Dennis - thank you for the 'discount' offer that you provided me and the GREAT customer service and GREAT workmanship that you and David gave me. Wonderful experience that gave me a 'warm and fuzzy' gut feeling about you and your company.

Dennis was great throughout the entire process. He returned my initial telephone call within 24 hours and arrived on time for our walk-through appointment. His price was fair and he was very willing to work with me to adjust the scope of work to fit my budget. He was also very flexible and agreeable to several scope changes during construction and still completed the project on time. Dennis and Mike were careful to keep the construction mess to a minimum and they cleaned up every evening before they left. The final product was exactly as I had envisioned. Most importantly, a huge thank you for not asking me to crate my three fur-babies, for putting up with their occasional nosiness and for sharing their lunches with the puppies every day. Great job!

We want to thank Dennis, Mike and Scott for all their assistance and hard work to repair and renovate our master bathroom. This was one of the best experiences we've had with a repair or renovation business. This business is very customer service oriented and will take care of all your requirements or needs. From the time Dennis arrived to provide the initial estimate and throughout the entire renovation process we had the feeling that we would get what we wanted at a fair price. We started the project with a long list of items we wanted changed in our master bedroom but first they had to repair our badly water damaged bathroom subfloor, floor joists and main load bearing beam for the floor joists. They carefully removed all the master bathroom items such as the old tub and shower, toilet, sinks, medicine cabinets, vanity cabinets, exhaust fan system and existing electrical wiring. They then removed the water damaged flooring, subflooring, joists and main bean. They properly disposed of all the damage material and took great care to protect the rest of the house while removing all this old and damaged material. They then demolished a wall in order to install a new pocket door along with relocating and installing some additional electrical wiring to support new light fixtures and a heating system for our new tile floor. Once all the damage flooring was removed, the new construction process began, they installed a new ledger beam, joists and subfloor, and moveed drain lines for the new tile shower and new sinks. They next installed a new custom walk in tile shower with customer plumbing to provide mulitple shower spays. Next they installed the heated tile floor in the entire bathroom area, built new walls, installed the pocket door, and a new set of double doors into the master bedroom area. They installed new vanity cabinets in the sink area along with all new plumbing to the new sinks We are very pleased with the entire effort and want to thank they the guys again for all their work to make our master bathroom remodeling project a success. We will definitely be contacting Dennis in the future wen we decide to do our next project.
Description of Work: Renovated our Master Bathroom and repaired/replaced our water damaged floor under the bathroom.
The work was scheduled to begin in early November, and Dennis had his guys pour the footings, do the brick work, and pour the patio all by the end of the first week in November. Once the patio had cured sufficiently, the crew got to work on the gable roof, then did the electrical, shingled the roof, installed bead board vinyl ceiling, trimmed the rest of the soffit and fascia with aluminum, installed the recessed lighting and ceilings fans, and painted all the hardiboard siding on the front of the gable and the columns. I had also asked Dennis if they could do a few other minor fixes to the crossheads over the garage doors and dining room window, as well as some fascia trim on the end of the house, which they did very well, and at no additional cost. The majority of the work was done last night and the guys even went so far as to carry our new patio furniture from the garage to the patio after they cleaned up. It was obvious through the entire process that Dennis and his crew take their work seriously and that they aren't just in it for the money. We are very pleased with the effort and thank the guys for building a beautiful patio for us to enjoy! We will definitely contact Dennis in the future if we decide to have any other improvement work done. Thanks again guys!
Description of Work: Constructed a concrete patio with brick trim, and a gable roof over the entire 32' length. Also provided a 220V connection for a hot tub, wired and installed recessed lights and ceiling fans.

It was a real pleasure working for this Angie's List member. From the start he was very receptive to suggestions and changes to the original plan. It was easy offering him upgrades to materials based on pictures of my own home. The changes to the soffit made the job very attractive and we were just as proud of this job as this member after it was completed. We kept contact while the job was being done via email and text messages to ensure this huge job was completed to his satisfaction. Thank you for the kind words and I know my foreman Mike, Electrician Scott, David and Myself are all proud of this job. Called Mr. Fix It on two occasions to have a sink mounted hot water dispenser replaced. The one currently in place was leaking water from the internal tank. I order a replacement system with the initial intent to install it myself. However after reviewing the instructions decided it was best to have a certified plumber do the installation. I queried Angie's List for plumbers/handymen, Mr Fix it seemed to have the best reviews. The first call was placed on Saturday Oct 5 and again on Monday evening Oct 7th, on both occasions the company's voice message said: "some one would return a call in 24-48 hours"....The message I left was a detailed description of the work and I repeated my phone number twice. No one has called to schedule the work or even acknowledged that a message was received. Unlikely I will use their services.
One of the best experiences we've had with a customer service oriented business! From the time Dennis arrived to conduct the estimate until the job was done, we had a feeling that we would be taken care of and not get that "screwed" feeling during the process. We bought a house that was supposedly "move in ready" only to find after closing on the home that the kitchen floor had water damage in three different areas on the kitchen floor and several layers of linoleum (two of those layers were asbestos) were placed over the damage in an attempt to hide the damage. The previous owners also painted (several times) the kitchen cabinetry (white) which we intended to scrape off and re-do only to find TERMITE DAMAGE and more MOLDY CRAPPY FLOOR!!! Long story short on that is after another company came in and removed the moldy asbestos layers and other debris and we removed all the cabinetry, we were left with a sub floor that was falling apart and kitchen wall in dire need of patching. That's where the Call Mr. Fixit crew came in and literally saved our faith in people...we initially hired them to only fix the subfloor and patch up the area where we ripped out the cabinets since we intended to try to save money and do the rest of the kitchen ourselves. Dennis came by on Monday, 24 August and quoted 2300.00 to fix the floor and wall. He mentioned starting work on 2 September, which we thought was a mistake since that was Monday, Labor Day....true to his word Monday morning at 0800 he knocked on the door and announced their arrival! That was way cool! They work on Federal Holidays! Anyhow, they got right to work and had that floor out and wall repaired (with some added improvements such as electrical outlet placement and recommendations) as estimated: within two days however; Dennis didn't stop there. He heard our story about how we discovered the damaged floor and cabinetry plus, how we were going to attempt to DIY the entire kitchen (lay the new flooring, install the cabinets and kitchen sink). Well, Dennis must have felt sorry for us cause he took the initiative (on his own time) to research and design a plan to renovate our entire kitchen, to include installing a dishwasher and garbage disposal! All for under $7000.00! We felt the weight leave our shoulders when he told us this! The entire project took six day's to complete and words cannot express our gratitude for Dennis and his crew: they should be featured on a show of their own on the DIY Network or HGTV! To us, Dennis is the Mike Holmes of North Carolina! We hope the pictures we uploaded can paint a better picture of the great work Dennis and the Call Mr. Fixit crew are capable of. We already plan to call him again when we are ready to change our car port into a real garage.
Description of Work: Dennis and his crew ripped out and replaced a moldy deteriorating sub-floor. In addition, they renovated and installed new cabinets, lighting, dishwasher, disposal, range hood, GFCI, moved electrical outlets to more logical places, installed new molding around the new linoleum floor and fixed leaky plumbing by replacing older PVC pipes.

What an absolute pleasure working for these Angie's List members!!!We had an absolute "blast" working in their home for a short time. I did not feel sorry for them, I just figured they had "bitten off more than they could chew (-:" Cabinets can be tricky for homeowners (leveling and spacing) not to mention all the special tools involved. They were already doing a shed project when we arrived and it turned out well. We commend them for taking on such a project and completing it. Again we sincerely enjoyed being a part of their remodeling efforts. I knew they were on a tight budget and did what we could for them price wise. Just the smile we got at the end of the day and the energy in the comment of "see you tomorrow" made it an absolute joy working there. These are wonderful, good, honest people and I'm glad we helped them out and wish them the best of luck and we know we will see them again for a future project. V/r Dennis Owner

The name ?Mr. Fix-it? can be misleading . While searching for contractors, I saw ?Call Mr. Fix it? and mistakenly assumed Dennis was just a ?for hire handyman? who would be able to do small repairs around the property. I was wrong. On the contrary, Dennis and his team are skilled tradesman who can accomplish any size project, and who will complete the job correctly the first time, without taking short cuts. We had some water damage from failed plumbing, and decided it was time to replace the 20+ year old Quest piping in our home? this of course turned into a complete kitchen, three bath, and laundry room renovation. Our project included gutting our entire kitchen, first floor half bath, and laundry room all the way to the studs and starting again by redesigning the floor plan; replumbing the entire house; relocating the laundry area; and completely gutting and renovating two second-floor bathrooms. We had a limited 6 month window to complete the project and had initially hired a competing contractor who wasted 3 months by planning and talking about the project, but hadn?t swung a single hammer. At the 3 month mark, the contractor doubted he could complete the project as desired in the time left, and wanted to just spruce things up (i.e. not tackle the difficult stuff such framework, plumbing, electrical, and other time consuming/ labor intensive tasks). We immediately severed ties with our initial hire, and called Mr. Fix-it (something we should have done from the start) Dennis contacted me within a few hours, we made a Friday appointment for an estimate, and he arrived right on time. We explained our situation, discussed our vision for the project, and voiced our concern about the limited time for completion. Dennis had no reservations about being able to complete the project in the limited time and was able to start the following week. As planned, the next week Dennis and his crew, Mike and Scott, arrived promptly at eight and started work immediately. Over the next 6 weeks Dennis, Mike, Scott, Anthony, and Kenneth, would demo, frame, wire, plumb, drywall, and tile our house. Their first task was to remove all Quest plumbing from the residence and replace with new PEX tubing. This proved just as time consuming and mind boggling as Dennis had expected. We did not know exactly how the plumbing was run through walls, and Dennis did not feel comfortable demoing our entire house just to make his job easier. He and Mike had to figure out how the utility was entering the dwelling and its path throughout the house . From an outsiders perspective, it seemed like it was slow going at first. However, once they had the plumbing figured out, the project took off. Next, they reframed and roughed in a new floor plan for the first floor, which included replacing load-bearing walls, and completely relocating utilities for a half bath, laundry, and kitchen, before hanging drywall and prepping for paint and finish work. I have to point out that we anticipated the project to last 6+ weeks and planned to live in the house while it was under renovation. I think this is where Dennis, Mike, and Scott really shined. They were always conscious of the fact that they could not completely demo the home since we had to have a bathroom, some sort of kitchen, and a way to do laundry. During the project they rotated which side of the house was under construction and which side could be used for living. Every day, they would systematically remove and replace the plumbing and wiring as required by the project, but more importantly they would also reconnect a temporary water and electrical supply before leaving for the evening. Every day they ensured that we could use the bathrooms, kitchen, etc, until the next day, when they would continue removing and replacing plumbing and wiring. To illustrate how Dennis and his crew do not take short cuts and always had our best interest in mind: one Friday evening Dennis and Scott stopped by the house long after they had reconnected our temporary utilities and left for the weekend. Dennis was concerned that they may have forgotten to cap off some newly run wiring and wanted to double check and ensure the exposed area was safe until they returned on Monday. Of course, there was no cause for alarm as they had indeed capped it and removed all hazards (as they did everyday) before departing for the weekend. We truly appreciated that simple act of stopping by the house (off the clock) to double check instead of second-guessing. After the Kitchen and bath was complete, the guys relocated the entire laundry room to the opposite side of the house. This of course entailed framing and dry walling the laundry area, running a water supply and drain, venting the dryer, and running the 110V and 220V for the washer and dryer. After the first floor was completed, Dennis and the crew turned their attention to the two second floor bathrooms. They completely demo?d both bathrooms (on a rotational basis), replaced all plumbing and wiring, and corrected some short cuts/ deficiencies that had occurred during an earlier renovation under the previous owner. They then finished the bathrooms by installing tile on the floors and a tub surround (in the common bath) and a tiled walk in shower (in the master bath). Dennis was always conscious to use upgraded fixtures and didn?t scrimp on cheap hardware that would need replacing in a few years. The overall project last 6 weeks, and we started getting accustomed to having Dennis, Mike, and Scott around house. It was a little anticlimactic to see them go at the end of the project, (especially for our family dog Bridgette, who I swear was receiving a daily sausage and egg biscuit by Scott and/or Mike). Dennis was also adamant about guaranteeing his work and pointed out that if we noticed any imperfections in craftsmanship he would stop by to fix it; so far we haven?t seen any. As a side note; I?d like to point out that Dennis didn?t only work as the hired contractor. He also shared home improvement tips and techniques (which will enable me to do many future projects myself and not have to hire a contractor), and as a recently retired Command Sergeant Major, he dispensed invaluable career advice to me and my spouse (both military). He was also helpful in providing advice on countless decisions during the renovation; many of which saved us money. I highly recommend Call Mr. Fix it, keeping in mind that Dennis and his crew are not day-hire handymen; they are professional craftsmen and will ensure that the job is done correctly the first time. I will definitely hire call Mr. Fix It for future (Major) projects.
What a great experience working for this Angie's List member and his family. They were absolutely great hosts for the time we spent there! Even though they continued to have full time jobs while the remodeling was being completed they always were there to greet us each morning and discuss the ongoing project to include any changes. We also dubbed this project as "Niche World" as every available inch was utilized by moving the refrigerator opening to the original laundry room so the refrigerator could sit flush with the kitchen wall (creating more kitchen space)and creating a niche for the bathroom sink to sit in with a built in look additionally we used some space behind the vanity to extend his living room closet. Although the project at times was challenging the finished product served as the reward. It absolutely looked great when completed. This member was quite skillful in his own right doing some things along with the project to help save time as we were under time constraints with the arrival of cabinets and flooring. Over a weekend he installed laminate flooring in 1/2 of the kitchen before it was completely finished to facilitate the cabinet installation by another contractor. We simply worked around it and all worked well for the member. We were glad to assist him in his project and were happy to see his timeline was accommodated and he went off to the Sergeants Major Academy. We wish him the best of luck and are sure we will see him in the future. Finally Bridget, although she ate many biscuits Pizza was her obvious favorite. Respectfully, Dennis Owner Call Mr. Fixit
