In the middle of the night we awoke to a burning smell. We tracked it down to the HVAC unit. Checked Angie's List and decided on Yellow Dot for trouble-shooting and repair. Called Yellow Dot first thing in the am and a technician was at the house by noon. Technician was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Diagnosed the problem, left to get a part, came back, and had the unit fixed before the end of the business day.
Description of Work: Our gas pack HVAC unit smelled as though it were burning. Called Yellow Dot for trouble shooting. Conclusion: Control board had melted. Yellow Dot replaced the control board.

It went well aside from the part that he had to come back out. But we have been customers of Yellow Dot since we purchased home in 8/04. And so were the owner since 1992. We are the 2nd owners.
Description of Work: The unit stopped cooling home in Summer of 2007. Tech came out replaced in April (Easter Weekend, Friday) a part that was supposed to make it turn on and stay on. Then he had to be called on that Sunday because the smell of gas was really bad. Then we found out that the unit had shut down because of it's safety feature, because the Freon had finished. There is a leak and it would cost way too much to replace if the part could be found. So we received 2 estimates from them for top of the line unit and mediocre unit. We can not afford to pay the full price straight out and their financing was way too high. But we would like to have the unit relocated with a new one with a longer warranty. Then the one we have which is on it's way out, tech informed us it would be best to replace with a new one. Again because of the unit being so old, they didn't think they could find the part. And if they could, it would run about 3 to 4 K. We prefer to replace with a new one.

Prompt, courteous service, knowledgeable technicians, good communications. The parts manager went the extra mile on his own initiative to expedite a part delivery overnight (the distributor had said 2-3 business days) so that our furnace could be repaired before the weekend.

I don t mind paying the annual fee. We have piece of mind that every thing is in good working order. If something is going wrong, we can call them and they will be here to fix it. They are honest and don't try to sell you something that you are not in need of. I like that they call with a reminder before they show up.
Description of Work: We have a annual contract with them to come out twice a year to make sure that everything is in good working order on my furnace and my air conditioner. They make sure that the furnace is putting out the correct emissions and to make sure that the air unit is working properly, cooling and defrosting.

I was pretty happy this last time they came out. I have regular maintenance checks and they always seem to turn out fine. I have been using them for several years now and I seem to be rather pleased. I pay them yearly and it is reasonable. They are a very good company. They also offer discounts on parts with the contract I have. I have no problems recommending them at all.
Description of Work: My heating and air condition system was checked out by Yellow Dot. It was checked out to make sure everything was functioning properly.

There were a few problems along the way, but the end result was excellent. The work twice did not pass an overly picky building inspector, but this was eventually accomplished. Workers are courteous and knowledgeable.

Our A/C began behaving strangely, with the outdoor circuit breaker tripping intermittently. The team came, checked out the unit and the electrical connections, and suggested that the breaker be replaced. After hiring an electrician to replace the breaker the next day, the unit continued to behave strangely, not cooling the house. The team not only returned THAT DAY to diagnose the problem, but fixed it, called back that evening to check that the unit was still working, AND called to check in the NEXT day (a Friday) to check that the unit was still working properly before the weekend.

When our heat pump broke Tom Bullock came the next day to give us an estimate for a new heat pump. He explained several alternatives and answered all our questions. The installers came at the time promised. Put protective covers on the carpet and were careful in removing the large air handler through the pull down stairs for our attic. They tested the system and vacuumed the carpet.
Description of Work: Removed 22 year old heat pump from outside and 22 year old air handler from attic. Replaced them with new Trane heat pump and air handler.
