We noticed a burning chemical smell pouring from our vents. We had no idea if the unit was on fire or what, so we shut it down, performed a visual inspection, and called our home warranty service. They refused to send a company out on Sunday, so we called Yellow Dot and left a message on their emergency line. We got a call back within 5 minutes and a tech was at our house in about1.5 hours (he lived a good distance from our home). Upon arrival, I explained what had happened, and he found the problem in 10 minutes. He explained what happened, why we got the smell, replaced the busted capacitor, and got our system back up and running. We have used Yellow Dot in the past for an HVAC inspection when we bought the home. They have replaced our upstairs HVAC system. To be clear, the problem was not with the one they replaced, but the existing 16 year old downstairs system. The service we get from Yellow Dot is top notch across the board, from sales, to installation, to service.

I called to schedule the service which was great. I called the morning of the appointment to confirm since they told me they would call the day before, but didn't (and i told them that). I waited for the technician, but he never showed. When I called the office I was told that I didn't answer when the technician called, turned out, they had my phone number down wrong. Technician did come out that day, but my entire work day was blown. I knew I had a leak and to diagnosis it and full with more coolant it cost another $300 on top of what I already paid. The unit was supposed to be cleaned. I'm not sure if any type of cleaner was used, when I went out to check the technician just had the hose running on the unit. In the end, I wasn't impressed. I do have to have work done to correct the leak. The estimate was almost $1800. I will be cheaper for me to fly in a family member who does AC work to fix it.
Description of Work: I bought the $99 deal, but it cost me $400.

The inspection went very well. The technician was very courteous and friendly. He examined both HVAC systems and parts on the inside and outside and answered all questions well. He found two capacitors that were bad/leaking and showed them to me explaining their function and why they might have gone bad and he had replacement parts in his van. The whole experience took about 40 minutes.
Description of Work: inspection of our two HVAC systems, cleanup, replaced two bad capacitors (which were the majority of the cost).

I was scheduled for the noon to 5 pm slot, but apparently I was the last call of the day; consequently, the technician didn't arrive until 5:45. That's my own fault--I should have scheduled my tune-up for May, before the heat started knocking out other homes' A/C units. The tech checked everything out and cleaned out the compressor. The system also needed 2 lb of refrigerant, which cost $143 (the other $99 was for the Angie's List coupon I purchased for the tune-up). Since the tune-up, my system has been functioning well (it had been struggling to keep up before the work was done).

I set up an appointment for today, June 24th with a 4 hour window from 10am-2pm. I never received a confirmation call prior to the visit, so I called them this morning and they assured me that someone was scheduled to come today between 10am and 2pm. (I had to take the day off from work.) At 2:10pm, there was still no one here and no one from the company had called me. I called the company and the person who answers the phones informed me that the technician assigned to me was finishing up with a previous client and was at least 20 minutes away (I was able to infer this distance because she told me what street he was currently on). She was courteous and apologetic, but offered no discount for the extra time I would have to wait and for the lack of communication. I told her to cancel the appointment and will use another company instead. I was going to set up annual visits to my home for heating and cooling maintenance with Yellow Dot. I will not be using them or recommending them because I cannot rely on them to show up when they say they will (with a FOUR hour window) and cannot rely on them to communicate when the schedule goes awry.

The reason we give windows of time is that some repairs to systems take only a few minutes and others can take up to half of a day or even longer. With that said, we certainly should have called you to keep you informed as to when we would be arriving at your home, and for that we are truly sorry. If you would allow us to make amends, we would like to offer you an annual maintenance agreement for a term of one year at a discounted rate. If you agree to this, we would be happy to schedule the first visit after hours or on a Saturday, generally reserved for emergency calls, if either of these time frames better suit your schedule. I thought it went well although I thought it was shocked @ the cost. However, I came home today and appear to have the same issue a month later. I'm certainly so not feel comfortable having them come out again. I'm very disappointed.
Description of Work: Serviced unit, cleaned it and unclogged drain. The reason I purchased the deal was because the drain was clogged so I knew the unit needed servicing.

We got off to a ruff start. They did not show-up [May 6, 2013] nor did they make a follow-up call. I called a couple of days later and was total that they tried to call me but my phone was not in-service. I informed them that my telephone had never been out of service. I then agreed that we could set another date. Which we did. It was set for May 16, 2013. At that date and time, their technician arrived on time and serviced my system as advertised.. He was very professional and preformed his service in an excellent manner. He informed me of the problem that would occur soon and I would need to replace a unique type of battery for my system The cost and installation would be an additional $310.00. I could not pay this amount at this time so the technician cleaned-up the area and left .
Description of Work: A/C Inspection, Cleaning, Tune-up and up to 1 pound of Refrigerant.System [Heat Pump}

The technician arrived in the last few minutes of the 4 hour window. Not happy with that. Technician did a good job. We have used Yellow Dot at standard rates for other maintenance and repairs with good results. When we scheduled the service, we were informed that we would need to hand over the physical Angie's List vouchers the day of the service. Because this is a rental property and the tenant was going to be there to meet the technician, this was not convenient. Not to mention the fact that there are no physical vouchers - just an email with two voucher numbers on it. It should be enough to read the voucher numbers to the dispatcher and for her to tell the technician it is a prepaid service. On the day of the service, we tried to give the voucher numbers to the dispatcher, but she made us fax the "vouchers" to her. I printed the Angie's List email, scanned it and emailed it to my efax service which then faxed it to Yellow Dot. All that overhead should not be necessary and it seems that some new processes or some training of their staff is required to deal with their Angie's List marketing promotions. Despite these minor issues, I will continue to use Yellow Dot.
Description of Work: We purchased two A/C service vouchers for $99 each to cover basic cleaning and maintenance on both units in the house.

I called Yellow Dot on a Friday morning because our 3rd floor a/c was not working. I was able to schedule a technician for Monday. He fairly quickly determined that the unit needed to be replaced so got me on the schedule for a project manager. I was offered an appointment later that day or the following. I took the Tuesday appointment. The project manager was very nice, took the time to explain my options, and did not pressure me one way or another. I made my decision and was offered an installation for either Thursday or Friday of the same week. I took the Friday appointment. There was a fair sized crew that arrived on time at 8 am. They covered the carpeted areas with plastic. Once the old equipment had been removed, a crew of 3 remained to complete the installation. It was about 5 pm when they completed everything and had cleaned up. They took the time to show me the new elements that had been installed and how to work the new thermostat.

The service is really reasonable. They completely look over the inside and outside of they set twice a year. If there are any issues they fine, they offer 20% off of the work. They are extremely kind. The man explained things to me and did a great job. There was no pressure on selling me anything. He left me information and I was very happy with them overall.
Description of Work: They originally installed our A/C system. We got three or four quotes and theirs was considerable less. I called a friend of mine who recommended them. They were fantastic. They also just came out to service the system.

Luis was on time, courteous and professional. He took pictures of the trouble spots he found, explained my options and was very, very helpful in helping me make a decision about what to do. Once decided, Luis set out to take care of the problem (s). I have to say, I was really, really pleased---again.

Arranged appointment by email. Service arrived punctually. Checked air conditioner with a variety of tests, including the AC unit and entire system. Added coolant and noted life of various unit parts. Suggested repairs that may be needed in the future. Very knowledgable and courteous service. Just a note that last year I had a similar service through Angie's List from a different company that only cost $49 for the same service.

First really warm day of the year, A/C wasn't blowing cold. Found Yellow Dot on Angie's List with a coupon for A/C Inspection, Cleaning, Tune-up and up to 1 lb. of Refrigerant (which is what I assumed it would take to alleviate the problem, plus wanted the inspection to see if there was anything else that needed near-term attention). Yellow Dot could told me they could do it same-day. They couldn't give me an exact time during the initial call, but said that the technician would call at least 30 mins before arriving. He called in the mid-afternoon, arrived in the designated 30 mins, promptly completed the repair/inspection. Though the unit is aging (25 years old) he said it still had full function and no further work/repair was needed at this time. I hate to be skeptical, but was pleased that he didn't try to "create" addition items that needed attention that didn't really need it.

Great guy, professional, polite and informed. I'd go back.
Description of Work: had them come out on a deal for $99 for a furnace check...all was fine, with a few tweaks they didn't charge for. Paid another $49 bucks to have a contract for another visit for furnace or A/C, so I had them check A/C. Recharged the freon and adjusted a couple things, but wanted like $250 for a condenser; not an uncommon price from a contractor, but it's a $25 part and anyone that can see can change one out, so I did it myself.

.The rep was very nice, good at his job, and honest (he just gave me prices and told me to shop around).
Description of Work: I hired them to put freeon in my air conditioner, clean it and inspect it. However, my central air unit had gone belly up during the winter. Yellow Dot tried to fix it (they couldn't), told me my options and performed what they could to the unit. Right now, I am going over my options.

We have had 2 inspections on our HVAC system. They replaced a few electrical components first time, in order to extend the life of our system. they are always friendly, prompt, and not out to make you spend extra money. After replacing the parts during their first visit, they returned the following year and stated that the system was running like new. They also came for an emergency call at our new house and they were just as fast and courteous as they were in previous visits.

The worker was very competent and explained everything. He didn't tell us we needed any additional costly repairs, which proved to us he was only there to do what was necessary and not to use the inspection as an opportunity to sell us more services.
