Schwartz Plumbing sent someone right away - within an hour or so of my call. Alex looked it over, got the parts that he needed and made the repair. The expansion tank had failed and had become so heavy that the pipe had ruptured from its weight. He installed a new one, and used a very sturdy brass pipe and connection to prevent it happening again. I was very happy with his promptness, his work, and also the price.
Description of Work: During the night a pipe had burst going into the attic hot water heater and I needed it repaired as soon as possible.

The tech who came out on Friday (the morning it was out) could not get the pilot lit, and told us that it wasn't getting any gas. He said we needed to replace a part that would cost us $550, or replace the entire water heater for $1800. We told him someone was supposed to come from the gas company on Monday. The tech from the gas company lit it right away and suggested we replace the thermocouple, which cost $16. We felt that the tech from Schwartz didn't know much about what he was doing and was only trying to sell us something.

The dishwasher repair and tightening of bracket went well. I was happy with the plumber's expertise on this and pleasant attitude. It was the shower diverter issue that was upsetting and frustrating. I was told a special part would have to be ordered- an extra long Moen diverter- this turned out not to be the case- the shorter one worked. I was told initially that the part would arrive in "a few days." Then I was told at one point that it would be five days. After 10 days of waiting and phone calls not being returned, I called and said I wanted to cancel my order. I had voluntarily prepaid 430 in advance. I appreciated that they promptly issued a full refund and I wasn't really expecting to be refunded for the dishwasher repair. I wanted an apology and acknowledgement that they messed up. I ordered the diverter myself on amazon prime and had it delivered in two days. The cost (no shipping charges) was 29 vs the 75 I was quoted using their supplier. I understand there will be markups on parts and it takes time for a plumber to make trips looking for parts. It was the delay, poor communication and not having a shower working for almost two weeks which infuriated me! I found another company who installed the slightly shorter diverter from amazon and it works just fine. The new plumber told me that he carries this particular Moen diverter on his truck and so if I had called them initially, I would have had a fix immediately. Schwartz is a bigger company yet this other plumber routinely carries the part- none of it makes sense. I don't understand why I had so many problems with Schwartz. Also, for any of you with Moen fixtures, the new plumber told me that Moen has a life time guarantee on all their fixtures and parts. It's possible to order directly from the company. They also carry old, obscure parts.
Description of Work: We needed a dishwasher affixed to the inside cabinet and a Moen shower diverter.

He said that if we went with his company for the toilet problem, the $195 he charged us for "diagnostics" would come off the cost of the job. He was heading out the door when I reminded him that our primary reason for calling him was our leaking kitchen faucet. He told us he was taking $50 off the cost of the faucet repair since he was already here (and I had just complained about having to pay for a job estimate, even if he euphemistically called it a "diagnostic charge"!). He fixed the faucet in 5 minutes and charged me $100!!!! ONE WEEK LATER, THE FAUCET BEGAN SPEWIING WATER ALL OVER THE PLACE! SOME FIX!!! I used to call Schwartz for all our plumbing needs. Had them do a very big job and it cost us very big money! They have gotten too expensive and now they are nickel and diming (or should I say $195-ing) me on estimates! Will no longer be using them again.
Description of Work: Repair of the kitchen faucet. Plus we asked for an estimate to solve a problem with one toilet sometimes not flushing properly. He rebuilt our Delta kitchen faucet with new seats, springs, bonnet, and ball. He quoted $150.00 but did job for $100.00 since "I was here already doing work." He charged us $195 for diagnosing the toilet problem.

They were fine. The price seems high to me, but I have not had a lot of plumbing done so maybe, it was not, but it seemed awfully high and it was a little higher than their estimate. As far as I know, the quality was fine and the actual person that came to my house was excellent.

My water heater pilot light kept going out. I called Schwartz plumbing. They got it lit, but explained that the controller was bad and given the age of the heater, not worth repairing. They did not charge for a service call, only for an estimate to get a replacement (Can be used towards the purchase price). The technician was professional, polite and did not pressure me to make any decisions. The patch held for another month. Two days before my daughter's wedding, the water heater went out. I called Schwartz, explained the problem and they had someone there that afternoon for a more detailed quote and installed the next day. The plumber on this visit was also polite and professional. The installation went well. HE showed up again on the day of the inspection to insure all was well. I've used Schwartz plumbing for emergency repairs in the past. I would highly recommend them for their prompt, professional service.

I used Schwartz many years ago to replace a water heater (and remember having a good experience) so I decided to call them for this job. I called on a Tuesday afternoon and they were to schedule it for the following day. James arrived early for the appointment and I believe is the most professional tradesman who have ever worked at our house! He was polite, articulate and thorough. He was careful to not scuff the walls and cleaned up after the job. I cannot say enough good things about him and the quality of his workmanship! The only negative thing was the cost. He was on-site for only 45 - 50 minutes total and charged $350.00 (parts were not itemized on the bill but I know I could buy them at Lowes for about $30). That seems pretty expensive to me considering the amount of time it took to do the repair. However, I haven't had much plumbing work done in recent years so Schwartz may not be any higher than anyone else. And considering how pleased I was with James, I would definitely consider using them again!

It took a long time for our hot water to flow through our faucets, a minute or more. So Schwartz installed the 10 gallon heater and valves to speed up the hot water. Now we get hot water within seconds, it works great now. I appreciate the fact that the company was very responsive and gave me an estimate before they left. I had two other companies come out to give me an estimate and they took for ever to get back to me after repeated calls. Schwartz was on time and when it came time to do the work they respond right away. They came out the next day and got the work done in around 2 hours.

The serviceman showed up on time or early for each appointment. The first time we got an estimate for the toilet repairs and some other work. There was a service charge for the estimate which was applied toward the final cost. The second appointment involved the actual work. We called within a day or two and they replaced the flapper on the toilet with the major repair and checked the second toilet. We called a few days later and a different serviceman resolved the leak in the second toilet. I am a little fuzzy about the cost, but I think that with the original estimate cost the price is in the ballpark. This company was definitely better than the first company we called, but it took several appointments to get the problem resolved. I am glad they honor their warranty as expected.
Description of Work: Repaired two toilets. One needed a major fix with new interior parts and new screws and washers and nuts for the tank. The second toilet only needed the new parts.

The job was to replace the existing cast iron, drop-in sink and faucet with a new similar model. The job was estimated to take 1 visit but took 2 visits a week apart. We went an entire week without a kitchen sink. Only one worker was sent to do the job. Since the sinks were too heavy for one person to handle, I was expected to assist. Even on the second visit, they knew how heavy the sinks were but still only one worker showed up. They still charged me full price. But the bigger issues are: I now have counter top scratches around the sink where the tech used a screwdriver to pry up the old sink. I had to patch the wall where it was hit by equipment being carried through. At the end of the project the tech was packing to leave. He had not caulked around the edge of the sink. When I asked, he said that his company did not do that. It was left up to the homeowner. I'm still looking for a quality plumber.

Matt responded to a Saturday morning call. We we e without hot water this morning. He gave me instructions over the phone on how to open the bottom part of the water heater to see if the remote module needed to be reset. I sent him pictures and explained there was no power reaching the module. He requested the model and serial number, he contacted a local supply store to see if the module was in stock. He called backed and told me specifically how much the weekend call would be and the cost if the module did have to be replaced. He also stated that he could not guarantee he could restore the hot water if we had to order another part. He arrived exactly in the window of time he gave me. He had the hot water restored in fifteen minutes. He contacted the manufacturer to see if there was a better way to install the module to avoid future issues. Matt was honest, on time, knowledgeable and professional. What more could you ask for?

Given I was told that the tub needed re-sealing but Schwartz would not do that work, I first had a contractor who came and sealed/calked the tub and repaired the access panel. At that time, the contractor pointed out that the plumber should not have tore out of the wall - the original panel had screws that could have been used to take the panel on and off the wall. I did not make an issue of this with Schwartz, given it was 'water under the bridge". However, it adds insult to the injury below that leads me to give them this poor rating. When I called today to have Schwartz come back out and look at the slow leak, the company was adamant that they would charge a service call even though I feel that they either caused the slow leak or failed to diagnosis it properly. I do not have an issue with paying additional repair costs (e.g. if they needed to replace the faucet and the relevant labor). However, I do think it is inappropriate that they would charge me another service fee - it felt like a blatant money grab. It is unfortunate because until this point Schwartz was my go-to plumber and I have used them for various jobs (including hot water heater replacement and service). Given the insistence on service fees when I think the issue should have either been found on the prior visit or may have been been caused *by* the original visit this experience has soured me. I will no longer use them or recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: I had what appeared to be a leak in my wall behind the shower, and I requested Schwartz come and address the leaking issue. The plumber came and tore out the access panel - literally tore it out of the wall (see the "How did it go section"). He was in there for about 20 minutes and then said the issue was calking around the tub, but that Schwartz does not do that type of work. They charged me the service fee visit and left. The next day, in addition to having an open hole in my wall to the crawlspace, the tub faucet developed a slow drip.

My experience with Swartz Plumbing overall was terrible and costly. The company has no sense of customer service, accountability and standing by their service. I called Swartz Plumbing for an emergency need. I needed someone to come in and drain a leaking hot water tank and cut off all flow of water to the tank which had started leaking to my guest bedroom below (hot water tank was in the attic). The technician came out and drained the tank and ensured me that he'd cut off all water to the tank so that I could start the mitigation process. Well 2 days later in the middle of the mitigation process for what was then a localized small issue in my guest bedroom, I came home to find that the water was now leaking to my 1st floor in my Living Room, the guest bedroom on my 2nd floor was completely damaged now. All the carpet and flooring had to be ripped off including now part of the adjoining guest bedroom. Partial of my ceilings of both my guest bedroom and Living Room was damaged. I called Swartz Plumbing of course (after hours as this was an emergency). The technician came back and asked that they completely remove the hot water tank from the attic since it was blatant that they did not do their job the first time and wanted to ensure that I did not have this again. I asked to speak to the supervisor or owner. The owner would not talk to me. Though I could clearly hear the technician talking to him. After hanging up, the technician say the owner said they would not take the tank out that night as it was a 2 person job and this was after hours. Though, I'm sitting here with a completely damage guest bedroom and living room due to their incompetence. And a cost that was around $2K had balloon to the total cost of all repairs I needed for this was about $9K in the end and I had to file an insurance claim. It is about 5 weeks later and I am STILL under repairs trying to fix the damages that this cost. The owner NEVER called me the next day or any day to check up on me, to take accountability for this or anything even after I specifically asked to speak to them. I will NEVER recommend or use SWARTZ plumbing again!!!!
Description of Work: The provider was enlisted to drain my hot water heater tank and cut off all flows to the hot water. I had a hot water heater in the attic that was leaking and had leaked in my guest bedroom (right below) the attic. I wanted to start the water mitigation process and in parallel, of course needed plumber to come and drain and stop all flow of the existing water heater until I could figure out how I wanted to replace it (moved from attic, tankless, etc). I was given Swartz Plumbing as the plumbing company I normally used was unavailable during this emergency.

The owner called and asked us to drain and turn off her water heater which we did. They were going to use a different company or friend to install new one. i found it odd they didn't want us to replace it . The pan had water in it and the water flowed back into heater from the use of the homeowner mixing the hot and cold water together. We offered to remove heater from attic for free so the sub floor could dry, not because we "didn't do our job as alleged ". Had we replaced heater the day of the call this would not be an issue.

Called them to diagnose why the water would suddenly shut off. The original diagnosis was that the well pump was failing. We authorized the replacement at a projected cost of $2,500 but as they were starting the job, they found that the capacitor at the well head had failed. Apparently, the new style well pumps have been redesigned, and what they found at my house is no longer common. So we agreed to replace only the capacitor for $250 and go from there. They did, tested the pump output and flow continuity after installing the new part, replaced all the insulation at the well head, and so far, so good! Nice to see a firm pass on a $2,500 job when they find only a $250 repair is actually needed.

The plumber showed up on time (actually a bit early). I explained what I needed to have done and he stated the price up front (the same price that the person on the phone had quoted me). He seemed surprised that I wanted to have both faucets replaced when only one was currently leaking (but I figured it out be better to get both done considering the age of the faucets). He got right to work. He had to locate the water shut off and asked me where it was. It was covered by an inch or two of mulch since Cary now reads the water meters electronically and it's not necessary to lift up the cover. The plumber scolded me for having mulch covering the water meter cover because it could be a problem if it needed to be shut off immediately. He also said that is especially important because we don't have an inside shut off, but I told him we do have one. He finished the job quickly and then told me that he had some trouble installing the faucets because our "siding is thin," but he he did the best he could. From what I could see, it looks fine and the faucets have been working fine. All in all, the work was done just fine. It's just the plumber was really grumpy and unpleasant.

We had 2 new vanity tops installed and I was responsible for the plumbing. I decided I could do it myself with minimal problems. I ended up with a leak around the faucet that i could not fix and was tired messing with it. I reviewed Angie's list and decided on Schwartz as they said it was $92. to come out. I figured that would be my cost as there wasn't going to be any parts needed. The technician looked at the 3 sinks I asked him to, a total of about 15 minutes and said he saw no leaks. I directed him to the problem and then he saw it. I asked if he would loosen the faucet , put silicon around it and retighten. He said they don't do that. So I had him put silicon arounf the faucet base, which my wife didn't want but had it done anyway. That took care of the problem. He also put it around one other faucet that might have the same problem. I was very surprised when the bill was $150 for basically no work. He also stated that you weren't supposed to get water up near the faucet! I defy you not to. I will not use this company for any future work.

I've used them before to replace the water pressure regulator on the house and was very happy with the price and quality of the service, but that was in 2011. When the hot water stopped working in the shower, the pressure dropped, and it starting dripping, I did a quick internet search and determined the 15 year old cartridge had probably failed and needed to be replaced. I could order it online for $40 or $50 and spend two hours cursing while I tried to install it, or call a professional. Sure they'll charge more for the part but at least it gets done right with no headache for me. When the plumber showed up and quoted $275, it sounded a little steep. I called Cary Plumbing and asked what they would charge. $60 for the part and $95 for the labor. Thank you! Oh and I dinged the professionalism from A to B because the guy didn't put the shoe covers on until I asked. We don't wear shoes in the house and the last thing I need is my wife yelling about someone tracking dirt around the house. I think any service professional should always put the covers on without needing to be asked.

The appointment was made in a timely manner and the service tech arrived on time. We were having trouble will well pressure so he replaced a regulator and guage and spent about 1 hour here. It did not fix the problem so he said it was probably the well pump. For this, he charged $305. Be advised...they DO NOT itemize their invoices, so I have no idea how this outragous price was determined. That, to me, is a bad business practice. We have used Schwartz other times in the past but will not use them again.

Plumbers that did the work were very good. Since no one came to take measurements I had to estimate the rough in number for 3 toilets. One was wrong.... my fault but I told them I would pay for the new toilet and the labor for installation. It took 6 weeks for them to get the right toilet size and come out to install it. Initially I called Schwartz every other day and all I got was excuses, so I finally gave up. 4 weeks later I finally got a call. The new toilet was installed in 30 minutes. If you have to use Schwartz, make sure someone comes to your house to take measurements and give you a WRITTEN estimate. When they say they are done, make sure it's to your satisfaction before you give them a check and let them leave. I still do not have an itemized bill for the cost of toilets and installation.
Description of Work: Install 3 toilets.

Response from Schwartz Plumbing Company
The toilet had to be ordered from the factory. It did take several weeks but as soon as it came in we installed it. Home owner was pleased with his new fixture.
