I called Roto Rooter to see if we can get a plumber out to unclog a toilet at 7:15 am; the call center took the service order and said someone will be there between 8:00 am - 10:00 am. At 7:50 am, Roto Rooter called and said someone will be there within one hour. Victor showed up within the hour; looked at the job required; and gave me a quote. He explained what he had to do and the job was completed in 15 minutes. He also waited and asked me to flush a couple of times to make sure it was working when I did it. Victor was great and very professional.

Had to make a couple of attempts with the auger but finally cleared the clog. Then ran several tests to ensure problem didn't immediately repeat. Technician gave several tips for buying new toilet, should that prove necessary, including information about a city rebate program.

Called "Pearce Septic Tank Svc, Rolesville NC. They responded the next morning....drained, cleaned, updated fixtures for septic system. The service was excellent. Just left and said they would mail the bill. Note: they had quoted cost earlier. Very reasonable cost for excellent service.
Description of Work: Thoroughly assessed and identified problem. Advised me of the type of serviced needed, which they did not provide. Very helpful in assuring that there were no other problems related to inside plumbing. Service rep was very professional and patient

Main sewer backed up into the house early morning. Roto-Rooter set an appointment for 3pm to fit in with my schedule that day. They arrived on time and attempted to clear out the sewer line. There was evidence of root intrusion so after clearing the line temporarily, arranged to video the inside of the pipe the following day. Technician arrived at the arranged time and found a large root ball in the middle of the pipe. The pipe was semi cleared that day to allow emergency use and arrangements made to be at the house the day after to replace the damaged pipe and provide a new line. Again they arrived right on time; the work was completed on time despite a couple of heavy storms passing through. The excavation was limited to the small area needed to lay the pipe, no damage to surrounding flower beds and the site was left in good order and even the neighbours commented on the quality of the work and friendliness of the technicians. All the technicians involved were friendly, competent and worked hard. An unpleasant situation was handled quickly and efficiently

We called for a semi-stopped up toilet, that wouldn't completely flush. We were originally told that the tech would arrive around 10am. However, he did not show up until well after 11am. After running a simple test by running the water in the sink, he decided to auger the line, for $127. He tried to convince us that if there was anything blocking it, the auger would push it further where the pipes were larger - and theoretically would take it to the main line. And if it did not work, then he would want to take out the toilet - for an additional $300. This worked - for about 4 hours. Now, after auguring it, we wonder if it just pushed the problem further down...which will cost more than the quoted $300.

Our house has an unfinished walkout basement with the plumbing stubbed out for a bath. The sewer line exits the house under the foundation footing. There is a back flow valve in the line recessed in the basement floor where the sewer line exits. The sewer line can be accessed via two clean outs. While working in the garden on May 29 I notice that the cap on the upper clean out had dislodged and there was some sewage around it. This prompted further inspection that revealed standing water in the waste line for the toilet stub in the basement and at the lower clean out in the front yard, indicating there was an obstruction in the sewer line below the lower clean out. After perusing the Angie's List plumbers, and the customer reviews, we chose Roto-Rooter and scheduled for a technician to come out on May 1st and assess the problem. The technician (David), arrived promptly as scheduled, I explained what the problem was, inspected waste line from the toilet stub in the basement and the lower clean out outside. He agreed that there was at least one clog somewhere between the lower clean out and the waste line connection in the street. He proceeded to insert his power auger through the lower cleanout and immediately struck a root and removed a root. This permitted the water backed up in the waste line to drain. He re inserted the auger to check if the remainder of the line was clear to the street. Another obstruction was found about 25 ft. further down the pipe, Using a video camera on the end of a snake we could see the first root within 6 inches of the clean out and the mass of smaller roots that looked like a mop or hair wig further down the pipe. David could not extract the "mop" of roots with the auger, but said he would push it into the main sewer line where it would be carried along with the waste water. David prepared an estimate for Roto-Rooter's proposed repair of the waste line at the two locations where the roots have intruded. It is a substantial cost and involves tearing up a section of our concrete driveway, which was replaced just two years ago. I saw the extent of the damage on the video monitor for the intrusion closest to the clean out but I did not view the second. I had to leave for an appointment and returned after he finished and left. I need more info to ensure we have the information needed to explore alternative solutions and arrive at decision that resolve the problem at the lowest cost. There is usually more than one way to "skin a cat". I have been trying to contact David through Roto-Rooter to ask him what he saw in the area of the lower mass of roots. Roto-Rooter contacted me a couple of days after the service to inquire if we had decided to do the specified work. I told them I needed to speak with David to acquire more information prior to deciding. Roto-Rooter had another person contact me because David is on vacation and will be back next week. I have requested Roto-Rooter ask him to call me when he returns. David is a knowledgeable, competent, extremely helpful and communicative professional who I would recommend to anyone. He quickly assessed the problem, implemented a satisfactory interim solution and answered all my questions. Unfortunately, I had to leave before he gave us the written estimate so I could have asked more questions at that time. This is the first time we have had need for this type of service. I had done all I could to minimize the time it would take to assess the problem and facilitate the solution, e.g. locate the clean outs that were buried under 27 years of plants, mulch and soil. Based on the services rendered and time spent we feel that the $295 cost was fair.
Description of Work: Used a power auger to clear the clogged PVC waste pipe between the lower clean-out and the sewer connection and did a video inspection of the sewer line from the clean-out to the point where it connects to the main sewer line in the street.

They showed up a little over an hour after I called on Sunday, Mother's Day. Plumber was a fairly young guy named Stan (#2439). He took charge and gave me options available and cost. He then proceeded to do work. He used a substantial auger through a drain that toilet had been removed. He was very careful not to do damage inside house or make a mess. He explained what he was doing all the time he worked. He was excellent and problem was solved when he finished. He recommended things I could do to prevent or deal with this kind of situation in the future. I can't say enough good about this guy.

Watch out for bait and switch (quoting one price on phone and then much higher when actually perform work). Could be initial quote was if trap, and slow draining vs. totally clogged (like hair in the strainer) and higher quote was when actually out and realized in stack but if so, didn't explain it this way to tenant and have to say I'm suspect.
Description of Work: Don't use, much better & less expensive options. Rental property, Tenants contacted for drain cleaning. Once came out, quoted a much higher price (nearly $400) for drain cleaning then initially quoted on phone (initial was about $200). Price was way too high so tenant didn't use. Fairly simple drain clearing although was stack between 2nd and first floor rather than just in trap.

We just moved into our new home when we found that there was a problem with our toilets and sinks not draining out. As we found out later, the main sewer line was blocked out near the street by roots and over the course of a day of normal water usage, the line backed up into the house causing toilets to overflow. I think it is important to note that we first called another plumbing company that had very good recommendations on Angie's List and, although they responded to our call rather quickly, they would not carry through on repairing the problem in a timely manner. I will write a review for them to explain why we decided to call a second company. We could not use any water in the house so we had to move into a hotel while waiting for the problem to be fixed. We called Roto-Rooter to see if they could take care of the problem right away. As described above, they sent out Cory who told us he would stick with us until he fixed the problem After waiting on the first company over two days and being told it would be another 5 days minimum before it would be fixed, we told Cory to please go ahead. He was excellent to work with. He told us what he would do, he would show us what he was doing, and did what he said he would do. A company is only as good as its employees. He treated us as valuable customers and he knew his job. I would highly recommend this company for blocked sewer lines and most especially if you can get Cory to do the job.
Description of Work: Our drains and toilets started backing up and overflowing. We called Roto-Rooter to tell us why and to fix the problem. They sent out Cur who identified where the blockage was occurring, dug it up and repaired it. He arrived late morning and worked tirelessly until about 9:30 that night and then returned the next morning and finished it up by that afternoon. He was very professional in his approach with us and gave us a good idea of what the eventual cost would be. He was excellent at communicating the progress he was making, letting us know on an hourly basis what he was finding and doing. He used his plumber's snake to try and clear the block and, when that did not work, he identified where the blockage was. He dug a trench about 3' deep and 5' long. The trench was near bushes so there were a lot of roots to deal with. He did not need to remove any of the plants, but a bit of lawn was removed. I appreciated the fact that he did it all by hand and so damage to our front yard was minimal. When he was done, and after we tested the drains from the house, he covered it all back up and returned it to near original shape.

Roto Rooter did an excellent job from the initial call to the end. I called for service around 1:30 on 4/03/13 and by 2:30 the crew was at my home ready to work. My sewer line was very backed up and they worked diligently until they were able to clear the line. Then they used the video to view the line. They also gave me helpful ideas on ways to reduce the buildup and to prevent future problems. They removed all debris prior to leaving. We are very pleased with the service delivery. Now the cleanup inside my home begins. Please consider this company for all of your service needs because we will .

Having used Roto-Rooter previously and been satisfied with their quality and responsiveness, I called them again to address a water damage issue we were having. I live in a condo and we noticed water spots and damage from the unit above us. After waiting months for our HOA to take appropriate action (they sent out a plumber but he couldn't figure out what was causing the water damage), I finally made a decision to handle the situation on my own. Roto-Rooter responded the very day that I called and sent someone out. Within a few hours, the problem was recognized and repaired. The serviceman was polite, professional, and explained everything very thoroughly to both me and my neighbor upstairs. I highly recommend them for your plumbing service needs.

I had two tubs with a slow drain problem. Called into the call center and gave my information. I received a call back within 5 minutes letting me know they had assigned my issue to a plumber and was given an estimate of when the plumber would arrive. Received a call 30 minutes prior to arrival and the plumber arrived on time. He was very professional, diagnosed and fixed the issue quickly, and was gone in under an hour. I was only charged the fee of a basic service call for the repair. I'm very happy with the responsiveness and work provided by the company and the plumber and will use them again in the future if I need a plumber.

My initial appointment for an estimate was for Friday between 2 and 4 p.m. The dispatcher called to say someone would be on the way as soon as located. At 6:30 p.m., the dispatcher said she found a plumber in Raleigh who could be on the way to Durham, and I declined service asking that someone be available Saturday after 11:00 a.m. I waited at home all day -- and finally at 4:30 a plumber arrived. Within about 20 minutes, he was able to give me an estimate which I accepted. He had to return to the shop for supplies and came back in about 30 minutes. The estimate indicated the job would take one person two hours to complete. The job was completed, explained thoroughly, paid for by 6:30 p.m. Still somewhat unclear why I was charged for two hours of labor since there was no charge for the estimate or travel time to get supplies -- I thought. The serviceman was personable and efficient. I'm not happy about the long wait (two days) for a plumber -- why do they make appointments they can't possibly keep.... and think I should not have been charged for two hours labor. I think that estimates and service orders should include time begun and time completed in order to avoid miscommunication or misunderstandings.

The technician was late-- 1.5 hours past the scheduled time slot. There were several calls to advise us he was running late. We had a sewer line clog and called for assistance. There was no charge to them to come out. The initial price to check the line and possibly clear the situation was $300. The initial report was that we had a major obstruction near the end of the line -- close to the city's main line--probably a collapsed pipe. Then the obstruction was found to be about 10 feet from the house. The equipment was brought inside the crawlspace area and efforts to clear the line were not successful. The next step was to remove the downstairs toilet and try again. The price went up over $500. The line was successfully cleared all the way--meaning no problem near the end of the line. The technician replaced the toilet and went on his way with our check for services. However, our crawlspace door, normally locked, was left open with lights on. The price seems relatively high. The process took a while, and combined with the technician being late, we were unable to attend church in the evening as planned. Now for the follow-up. The regional manager telephoned. He had seen the rating on Angie's List. He appropriately apologized for the several issues--in a sincere manner. He then offered and I accepted a partial refund. I am convinced that this firm is serious about providing excellent customer service!
