It was on Saturday so I got charged extra $100 for off hour work. I called around 1PM and they notified their worker. Around 3PM I got a call saying someone is coming over now. Around 4PM someone came and explained few things and showed me their "flat price sheet" and quoted me around $2300 to replace my leaking water heater with a new 50 gallon direct vent gas water heater of the State brand which is exactly the same as what I had except this one they've made a few enhancement since mine was like 10 years old. While he was flipping the pages, I saw some for around $1600 and that kind of matched with higher end cost of what I saw on the Internet but what I saw on Internet didn't really say what type the replacement cost was for. I mentioned this to the guy and he told me that it's more expensive than others because of the type of water heater that I require. I needed a direct vent gas water heater which is true. And he was telling me that's what makes it so much more expensive than regular gas water heater. He said he could replace it today, so I kind of trusted him and hired him to replace it at that price even though I still think that it can't be that much more expensive just because it's a direct vent type. So he went back to get the water heater and came back around 5PM and did his work and finished around 8 or 9pm. He was very good at what he does and cleaned up nicely too. Everything looked good and I was very happy that I was able to take care of this on the same day. But then again the price... I am not so sure if I got the good deal.. Even if it's average deal, I would feel OK, but I somehow get a feeling that I got the more expensive deal.
Description of Work: I noticed my water heater was leaking a little. I heard some horror stories about water heater breaking and etc, so I wanted to replace it ASAP since it's time to replace it anyway.

The water heater in my home failed and flooded several areas on 11/22/16. I called the Durham location of Progressive Plumbing and made an appointment for a service technician to come to my home the next day. The service person determined the water heater needed to be replaced. He told me he could do it immediately as he could get a water heater from their warehouse. He went on to say that Progressive uses high quality water heaters, and specifically told me that Progressive takes pride in their high quality products and installations, and that they do not use cheap products like you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. We objected to the high estimate of $1763, and the service person explained that it was because we would be getting a high quality water heater which would not blow out due to “plastic seals” like what we experienced with the one that just failed in our home. We agreed to the price, believing the water heater that would be installed would be a high quality water heater, and as such, would constitute the bulk of the $1763 bill. I was present when the service person made a call to apprise his supervisor of the status and that he would need to go to the warehouse to get a water heater. I could hear the person on the other end of the phone tell him to go to Home Depot, to which the service person stated he did not want to do that, and that he wanted to go to the warehouse to get one. The service person then stepped outside and I could not hear how the call went on. Afterward, the service person came back inside to tell me that he was going to the warehouse to get a water heater and he would return in about an hour. A few days later I find the water heater was in fact the same model that is sold at Home Depot for $375. And the installed expansion tank cost is under $75, meaning the total for parts should have been less than $500 retail. Given this information, I believe that we were outrageously overcharged and that we may possibly have a poor quality water heater – as indicated by the Progressive service person. My research indicates the total invoice should have been between $800 and $900. I have telephoned their offices three times regarding this bill and requested an invoice that explains the exorbitant charges several times with no response. We view a labor charge of more than $1200 to be excessive if not price gouging given this service was provided the day before Thanksgiving.

We recently had them out for routine maintenance and cleaning for our hvac system. The guy who came out was on time and very nice/professional. While working on our system he said he noticed that a part was sluggish and may need to be replaced. At that point we did not have problems with our system at all (we service it to prevent problems). The service call costs just under $100. The "needed" part was quoted at just over $200. . I am not in the hvac business so I don't have immediate knowledge of fair pricing for parts. I agreed to replace the part. Shortly after I was able to look up the pricing for this part. A $200 part from Progressive was selling for $4.95 on an online plumbing store website. That is over 4000% markup on parts. I called them back and told them to come back and get their part. Which they did. They refunded my money for the part. The only justification that I got from them when I called was that they are a competitively priced company. Really? So it is an industry practice to price gouge your customers on parts. Sad and pathetic. So if any hvac company quotes you a price for anything - double check online before you say yes.

Everything went well. He was very professional and explained everything he needed to do. The one thing I was not fond of was that there is no breakdown in pricing. It was a one line item description and the price.
Description of Work: After having new countertops and a 60/40 sink put into the kitchen I needed everything hooked up. The current pipes were set up for a regular 50/50 sink so the technician needed to add some turns to get the piping correct. He also installed a garbage disposal.

My 25year old home gave us both some challenges but Mr. CJ was dedicated to the job and worked so hard all day to make it happen. I am really happy to have three new toilets installed (correctly and guaranteed to work!). Also having a new kitchen sink and a hose bib that both work and don't leak is so nice. I appreciated how professional CJ was and careful with my home. He was very solution focused while keeping in mind what my plan was for the renovation.??I have high hopes for a trouble-free future with our new Toto toilets. Scheduling was easy and I always appreciate the extra TLC it seems I receive as being an Angie's List customer. Great experience.?

I purchased $200 worth of labor/service for $99 b/c I knew I needed electrical work done in the future. When I called the office to figure out how much time the $200 would give me the receptionist said it didn't really work like that which I thought was strange. I was trying to assess the labor rate/hour to see if I could get a good value for the $200. I figured I better have some back up jobs for the tech to do in case my main job fell through. It did. The main reason (which was to replace a ceiling bathroom fan/light) could not be done b/c the fan/light kit I bought wasn't compatible with the existing hole. That part became very complicated but the technician was nice enough to explain to me my options. He then went on to the other back up job I had organized. It was easy enough & my husband could have done butit b/c I needed to get the $200 worth I had the electricion do it. The back up job was installing a wall-mounted light fixture over our dart board as well as install a single light switch on the same wall to go with it. He had to use a bunch of extra parts I didn't supply & went a bit over the coupon price so we had to pay an extra $88. The trouble-shooting & the light/switch install job went over the $200 price by $88 but I guess that's electrical work. Overall, it was an ok experience & I would use them again.

I am comfortable doing most of the minor electrical stuff, but during my small remodel of my basement apartment I needed a light switch moved to a different wall. I scheduled them and although late they did call to let me know he was on his way. I originally had a long list of things I was going to have them do, but after I got the quote the sticker shock sorta knocked me for a loop. I had paid the $99 for $200 of electrical service special and assumed that would get me a few hours worth of work. I had to add $40 to it to get the switch moved. The Electrician made quick work of it and was very professional. PRO's: Made it about the time he said and gave me a heads up that he was going to be late - so he was sorta punctual. He was very professional and polite. CONS: The price was just ridiculous. The light switch he removed and all other switches, outlets and covers in the kitchen were beige, but he replaced it with a white one. There is an outlet less than 2 foot from it that is beige which makes it stick out even more.

Very nice service tech. Quick response but I was not expecting to have to spend $500.00 to replace the guts in three running toilets. Probably could have bought all new toilets and had them installed for the same price. I bought the deal and thought that would cover the labor. Who knew that less than an hour of work and some parts would cost that much. The tech did give me an estimate but my toilets were running and I took off time from work to have them come out. Wasn't in a position to get a bunch of estimates and after all, I got them from Angies List. Maybe I just don't know the cost of things. Or maybe I was over charged. If I used them again I wold have an estimate done first. But I wouldn't buy this deal again.

Late at night, a bolt broke on my toilet tank, rendering the toilet useless. I called Progressive early the next morning and Dwayne was at my house about 30 minutes later. He was extremely helpful. I decided to replace the toilet, and he recommended one, found one in the area, picked it up and had it installed quickly. He also removed a rust stain on my bathroom floor caused by a very slow leak that I had not noticed. Meanwhile, he had contacted the Progressive Service experts who came right away to determine if there was any water damage under the tile floor. I had used Progressive Service in the past for HVAC inspections. Both experiences had been equally satisfying, so I had to look no further than Progressive on this occasion. I highly recommend them.

I first found out about this company from Angies List and have used them for several years. I always thought they were a bit pricey but liked their repairmen who were always pleasant and "normal" acting- important to me after experiencing weirdos at a previous company we used. The plumber they sent out on this occasion was another nice, intelligent person. The toilet and bathtub were backing up and the toilet was slightly loose with a bit of water on the floor. I was told I had a major blockage and he would have to leave to get the hydrojet and would need an assistant. I was informed of the price and told the hydrojet would do the trick and was much better than a snake that just "poked a hole" in the blockage- the hydrojet was going to flush everything through the system. Six days later, on a Sunday, after spending $1100.06 on the preceding Monday, the bathtub was backing up again! I called Progressive and was told they "don't warranty" their sewer work. I said, " so after spending all this money with you, I am on my own again and will have to pay for someone to come out again to see what the problem is?" Yes, I was told, that's how it was going to be. Shortly after hanging up, I received a call back. This time, the same person told me she had checked with a "supervisor" and they would send someone out the next morning at 8a to do a free camera inspection of my line- threading a camera to determine site of blockage etc. At this point, I had lost confidence in the company and could picture the possibility of another costly repair. I doubted I had a problem with tree roots since the other toilet and tub in our house were draining just fine. I called a sewer and drain company (on a Sunday) who came out within hours and fixed my problem for $260.00- they also "warranty" their work for 90 days and their rates are the same regardless of the day of the week. To anyone reading this, if you have problems with drains, go with a specialty drain and sewer company (but not one of the nationally advertised ones whose workers receive commissions). The sewer and drain companies have snakes with extra large cutting blades that they routinely carry on their trucks. Most plumbing companies don't have these devices. Are they training their employees to push pricey hydrojet treatments? Bottom line: I spent $567 for an ineffective job with Progressive vs $260 on a Sunday with another company. BTW, no one but me used this particular toilet and tub since Progressive was here so the blockage can't be blamed on someone putting paper towels, feminine products etc down the drain. I called back on Monday morning to cancel my appointment for the camera scan. Then thinking about it some more, called a second time and said I wanted to make a complaint about the service and money I had spent. I was assured a manager would be calling me back. It's been 4 days and no return phone call. I think I will look for another plumbing company although this one for regular, non sewer issues, has been fine in the past.

I contacted Progressive Plumbing after hours on a weeknight about a faucet installation. The rep was pleasant and accommodating. An appointment was scheduled during my desired hours two days later. (Next day was possible.) The technician arrived early and waited at the street, so my driveway wasn't blocked. Inside Steve quickly assessed the situation, and we agreed on the price. Twenty minutes later they were gone. Punctual, friendly and great service. An Angie's list deal saved ~50% and made the price perfect.... I've used other Progressive services, and I'll keep going back.

I'm blown away. These two very polite gents came in a hurry - it was a bit of an emergency as I tried to fix it myself - big mistake. They had the parts on their well-stocked truck. They completed the job in under an hour. Good as new. But here's what blew me away. As they were leaving, $249 check in hand, I mentioned to them that I found them on Angie's list. Although they were under no obligation to do so, they suggested I buy their $200 worth of labor-service coupon for $99. They waited while I fired up my laptop and bought the Angie's deal for $99 and then wrote them a check for parts, $49. They tore up the first check for $249, saving me $100!!. These guys are good at their job and just good guys, period. I'm recommending them to everybody!

The provider arrived at 7:30 am in order to accommodate my busy schedule. He was courteous, polite and very professional. I purchased a variety of doorbell models ahead of time, not knowing what was going to be needed. He reviewed my options with me and we selected an option that was easy for me to maintain. We discussed other projects and I was given a price quote that seemed reasonable. I plan to contact them to schedule an appointment to have the work done. What I particularly appreciated was that he provided me with lots of options but carefully explained simple more cost effective ways to get the job done. I'd also like to compliment Progressive Service on the friendly and professional way in which they schedule appointments and the special consideration they gave me in scheduling work on such short notice.

It was good quality and it fixed my problem. They were extremely highly. We negotiated it down a little bit. But, they were terribly high. Larry and John fom Progressive showed up promptly when they said they would. I told them the problem and Larry proceeded to explain my possible options. He was happy to answer all my questions and provided an estimate that he and his crew never went over. The project took about three days total; one for digging/trenching the course of the new line, the second for installing the new pipes and capping the old line, and the third was for getting inspected and backfilling the project. Larry and his crew were completely professional and completed the work with minimal invasiveness to our home as we were only without water/sewer for a few hours when they performed the actual "tie In" over the course of a long weekend. The work was actually finished ahead of schedule and stayed within budget despite a few unforseen bumps in the road. I possibly could have shopped around for a lower quote, but the professionalism and quality I recieved from Larry and John at Progessive Service Co. was well worth the few dollars I might have saved going elsewhere. This was an extremely big project that involved a lot of hard work in an uncomfortable crawlspace. I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a similar problem! I would also advise anyone out there to act sooner rather than later on a project of this nature, rather than spending hundreds of $$$ on temporary (Roto-Rooter) solutions to major plumbing issues. If I had to do it all over again (and I hope I never will!), Progressive Service Co. would still be my first choice for the Job. Thank You Guys so much!!!

I have a broken water line running from the street to the house. Two weeks ago I called Progressive to come out and give me an estimate. They charged my $59 for the estimate. The utility mark out was supposed to be done the week before the work. Never happened. I called to let them know that the utility mark out had not been done. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of calling them on a Saturday. I was told by the answering service that they would not give the company a message about this issue and that Iwould have to call back on Monday. I also had mud coming into the line and wanted to see if a technical could take a look at it. The person who answers the phone refused to call a technician and told me I would have to wait. I reminded them of there 24 hour emergency service, but he did not care. I finally was able to reach them on Monday and they decided not to come out due to rain. In all fairness it was raining a lot. I was told they would be out the next day. About mid-morning the next day they did not show and I called and was told that they would be out later in the week. After telling them I was going to find another plumber they did come out and told me that they could not do the work. So after two weeks my water line still is leaking and I still need a plumber.
