Newcomb & Company

I contacted 3 companies for a quote to replace our furnace in our attic. Newcomb & Company came out on time, got what they needed and provided us with a written quote the next day. Over the next few days, I narrowed my parameters down to a specific Trane furnace and provided them with the model number. I should mentioned we're also annual maintenance contract customers with them and was hoping that might get me a discount. I was shocked when they came in $900 higher than the other two quotes (both were within $100 of each other). The other quotes also included a new 2-stage thermostat where Newcomb was quoting using the existing thermostat. The quote listed a 20-yr warranty on the heat exchanger (Trane offers lifetime warranty on that model) and 5-yrs on other parts (Trane offers 10 yrs on that model). Newcomb was also 7 days out from being able to replace the furnace, where the other two companies could do it within 2-3 days. This may mean that Newcomb is simply much busier than the other two companies, but with the inaccurate and expensive quote, I couldn't in good conscience choose them or give them a good rating on Angie's List. Lastly, Newcomb required a 30% down payment where the other two companies require payment upon satisfaction. They were punctual and professional, but I can't say I walked away feeling good about doing business with them. We will also not be renewing our maintenance contract with them as a result.

They are very good and I have a service contract with them and they are very dependable. As soon as you ask for an appointment they will come and they replaced the filters. They are very honest about it. Everyone that we know uses them and the company has a very good reputation. They are not the cheapest company but you get what you pay for and you want somebody to be there when you need them.

I have used them before. They have always been professional, punctual and explained everything that they were going to do before they did it. I will hire them again in the future.

I really like them. I have them for years. They did all kinds of work thirty years ago. They put in a skylight for us, which they don't do that anymore. My dog had an accident, and they cleaned it up. My grandson was here and he put a picture of me, which was long ago. He put it through the vent. The guy was there on the service call. He took the appointment and got the picture out. It's a little thing like these were not only they are good at their job; but they go on an extra mile. To me a good company will do that. I never thought of putting them on Angie's List because I had them for so long. They were thorough, forgiving, reliable, and good. I never had a problem with them. I just renewed the contract with them few weeks ago.

I received four (4) bids for this project and Newcomb was the most thorough and the lowest cost. Shaun Mattern came out to the house to discuss what I needed and what I was trying to accomplish (moving the system to a new location). Shaun is very easy to work with. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and very detailed oriented. I narrowed my bids down to two (2) and then asked both companies to rework their bids in order for me to compare them "apples-to-apples". Newcomb's bid was far superior. Shaun worked with me on setting up a mutually agreeable installation date and checked in to make sure everything was still on track as the installation date came closer. On installation day, Danny and Cooper showed up to remove the old system and install the new one. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. Of course I wanted them to do a good job, but what transpired over the next 2 days exceeded my expectations. I'd almost forgotten what quality service and pride in craftsmanship was all about. Danny and Cooper reminded me. What a delight! Suffice it to say that I couldn't be more pleased with their work. Danny clearly takes pride in his work. Installing an HVAC system is more than just setting up equipment, plugging it in and turning it on (at least if it's done right). This one was done right. It's perfect. Picking a new company to perform work is often a crap shoot. However, if you need a new HVAC system, Newcomb is the company to call. If you can - ask for Shaun to scope the project and try to get Danny and Cooper to perform the install. This is not to say Newcomb doesn't have other fine installers - I just haven't met them. I can state without reservation that this team is the top flight. They represent the company well. If they are typical of all of their employees, then the competition should be nervous. I was using a different vendor for my HVAC service contract. Not any more. Newcomb has earned my business.

Came on time, curteous, finished on time, and left no mess.

The service went very well. Using them has been wonderful. We have a service agreement with them.

Newcomb was recommended by one of their competitors who thought we might need a new furnace. We called them up, they were out the next working day in the morning. The two men investigated the furnace, asked what the other service had found. The diagnosis from the other service seemed odd to them, so they investigated every symptom and possible cause and tracked it down to our fusebox (yes, I failed to check the fusebox). They also made sure they satisfied themselves that the other diagnosis was not the case, going over the junction boxes thoroughly, popping open the furnace case to inspect the firing chamber, and taking time to explain to me everything they were doing until I was also informed and satisfied. I started the day thinking I'd need a new furnace, ended the day short only a service fee and the cost of a new fuse. The service fee seemed a little steep, but the service provided was worth it.

They are very outstanding. Very competent, very dependable, excellent work and people. They are also very responsive, and are the largest in out area.

Thursday night we realized the downstairs heating system wasn't blowing warm air. We did basic troubleshooting, no luck. After calling a few other places and leaving messages without hearing back, we called Newcomb. We've used them in the past, but thought they were a bit on the expensive side. It was about 2 in the afternoon and I asked if there was a chance someone could come out today. Someone was at the house within 20 minutes, had the problem diagnosed and the part replaced within 40 minutes. All in all I'm impressed and my not worry about calling other places in the future.

Call on Wednesday 12/2 in the am. I was a customer of Newcom & Co but without a service contract. They arranged for an appointment in the afternoon. Did a thorough diagnosis of the problem. Circuit board on the gas furnace was bad...(Could see the burned out capacitors). The thermostat on the heat pump was shot, and the electrical contacts were close to burning out. They did not have the thermostat in inventory. The rewired the system to allow the backup furnanace to take full control of heating while the parts were being ordered. On Friday 12/4, I received a call that the part had arrived and they would be at the house on 12/7 from 8am to 10am. On Monday 12/7 Newcomb & CO arrived at 7:45am. As part of the process they did general maintenance on the furnace and heatpump. As part of this general maintenance they discovered the pilot light thermocouple was close to failing. It was replaced at that time. Since the furnace is 21 years old and the heat pump is 13 years old, I purchased a service contract to guarantee early scheduling and future preventative maintenance. It was "retroactively" applied to the bill. They also informed me about a rebate from Progress Energy for having a service contract in place on a heat pump. It was a good experience.

They were not at all in the ballpark of what we were looking for. They were punctual for the appointment, and they explained their services well. Their price was out of line and we will not be using them in the future.

The workers from Newcomb are excellent. They are very responsive and good. They are the best maintenance people I have ever had. They are just great overall. They did the job swiftly and I haven't had any problems with them. I thought their pricing was fair. They did high quality work.

Great - guy got here on time, did the service quickly, volunteered to service the other unit and got it done in a timely fashion. Lil pricey, but otherwise it was a good experience.

They were a little higher in cost, but they made up for it in service, quality of product, and job performance. We've used them several times for repairs as well and have always found them reliable.

I have used this company for the past four years. I find that this company does not try to sell you parts that you don't need. I like that they set up an appointment with to make sure your home. We did have them install a new furnace because they had the best price.

Excellent job. Workers were on time and careful. Tough job but they did it very well.

I was very pleased with them. We felt really comfortable with the fact that what we were told was a problem that was fixable and we didn t have to replace everything. They saved us a lot of money and were very honest. They are number one in our book and we are very satisfied with the service.

Our old furnace needed replacement in a hurry when its heat exchanger was found to be cracked. I think I must have spoken with 9 contractors, most of them from Angie's List. Some came right away, some made me wait. Some seemed sleazy, some seemed honest. Some only dealt in the lowest-quality equipment. We were very clear that we wanted to just replace the furnace, not the whole system, and that we wanted a smaller capacity, since our existing furnace was clearly over-sized. Virtually none of the contractors we spoke with were interested in listening to us and our needs, but Newcomb bid on exactly the job we wanted without argument. They lent us space heaters for the time we had no heat at all. Overall, a great experience once I found the right contractor.

(JOB 1) Came out within 1 hour of my call, the heat pump appeared to be smoking one morning. The repairman was extremely apologetic about having to charge me the minimum, since the heat pump was just in a "refresh" cycle, melting off the accumulated ice. A normal cycling process he explained (without laughing at my expense "pun intended"). Went ahead and checked out the basic functions of the unit and adjusted the heat pump/gas furnace backup furnace cut over temperature to more accurately reflect the relative costs of the two energy sources. I am definitely calling them again to tune up my system this fall. (JOB 2) Original estimate to repair problem was 5 days. Were able to arrive next day? Diagnosed the problem in 1 hour. Had to return to shop for part (2 zone system no longer manufactured, substituted 3 zone system). Installed the same morning. Expensive repair but what are you going to do with specialized parts required, only from a single source.

Showed up on time. Installers were impeccably careful and neat. Finished on time. AND, the A/C works.

I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS COMPANYS WORK AND SERVICE. THEY COME OUT ABOUT TWICE A YEAR WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. THEY ARE COMPETENT AND CONFIDENT IN THEIR WORK AND SERVICE.

THESE PEOPLE WERE VERY NICE AND COURTEOUS. THEY WERE WILLING TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. THEY WERE ALSO VERY HONEST PEOPLE WHO DID THE WHOLE JOB VERY WELL.

THEY BRING OUT A TWO MAN CREW TO DO THE MAINTENANCE. BEFORE I STARTED USING THEM, I WAS PAYING FOR REPAIRS EVERY YEAR. I AM SAVING MONEY WITH THE SERVICE CONTRACT.
