Mr Smokestack Chimney Service

We were very pleased with the service.

The technician arrived early and completed cleaning out the dryer vent (which exited through the roof) promptly. The technician was professional and showed me the before/after photos of the condition of the vent.

They did a great job of custom making and fitting a new chimney cap for us. The original was not secured properly by the builder and was blown off and damaged by a wind storm. We have used them before for cleaning and they have always done quality work and are pleasant to work with.

We did a Level 1 inspection as part of due diligence negotiations. Technician showed up, immediately told me refractory panels needed replacement and to not operate the gas logs. Said I did not need a chimney sweep, saved some cash there. Shut off pilot light, then tried to relight the pilot light and failed. Went in the attic and took some pictures of the chimney. Went on the roof and took more pictures and made comments on some things. As he's leaving he tried to sell me a gas log service for $129. I said no, then told me how to clean the pilot light assembly myself. After he left I went inside, one hit of the igniter and pilot light lit and held itself lit. A few days later the inspection report showed up and stated the incorrect refractory panels which needed to be replaced. Also stated that a crack was in both panels, however didn't provide conclusive evidence the size of the crack. Rule of thumb from what I've heard from multiple places is that the panels should be replaced if the crack can fit a dime (conservative) or nickel (less conservative). Inspecting the panels myself I could not fit either into the cracks on the panels. Regardless its in an inspection report so it has to be disclosed. Either way, they are the "certified inspectors" so I could either spend more money on another companies opinion or air on the side of caution. Quote came in to be about $1000 to replace two panels, disconnect the logs and reconnect them. I'm not sure where they are buying the panels from, but as a homeowner I can purchase both for $117. I assume this would be a few hours for a homeowner to replace and probably an hour or two for a trained technician. Not sure where the other $883 is going... I emailed them and they were happy to update the inspection report with the correct refractory panels mentioned while on-site. When I asked why no measurements were taken of the cracks, I got no response, again they are the "certified inspectors" they should have some response based on their certification. I prefer absolute proof and not opinions. The other items they quoted were chimney supports and storm guard sealing, in total was $600. I would not recommend this company unless you have money to throw away. 1) They are way overpriced. 2) The technician did not provide objective evidence to support their claims that the panels had to be replaced. 3) The technician claimed I needed a gas log service based on his inability to light the pilot light. I called around and found another certified company which was 2/3 of the costs of this place to purchase the panels and perform the installation.

The repair went well. The fix performed the prior years was under warranty and so the fire box repairs were made along with the annual cleaning.

They did a fabulous job cleaning the chimney, were polite and on time, and offered a detailed repair estimate. The technician even reminded me that I left my keys in my front door. Very polite

We weren't able to get on the schedule for over a month, but I have to say I'm very happy with Mr Smokestack. Eric arrived on time, was very friendly and professional. He pointed out what he found as he started working on the gas fireplace system, and answered my questions quite thoroughly. He got the pilot light lit, fixed some other issues, reset the logs correctly, and ensure everything was working perfectly. Before leaving he made sure that the area was tidy and clean.

Jeremy went out of his way to provide us with excellent service. He also got rid of all our wasps that the exterminator that we hired didn't do.

Eric and Brad were very professional, explained what they were doing, gave suggestions for future work without any pressure, took all the time we needed to understand the work. The office called to remind me of the appointment and called after to see how the service was. I would highly recommend the company and the people.

The two men were great. Very polite, professional and concerned about keeping the house clean. They cleaned the flue, and found some pretty serious problems with the chimney, which we kind of expected. Their estimate to fix is about what we expected, in the neighborhood of $1500. We haven't had the work done yet, but they said we could use the fireplace as long as we didn't create a raging bonfire in it.

I was given a very thorough breakdown of the work/repairs that I needed. That said, it was a very expensive quote. From what the technician said, I'm sure I really do need the extensive repairs, and I'm sure that Mr. Smokestack's work is very well done. It was just a lot to look at. I received a couple really confusing follow up emails about the quote - it seemed like the office staff and technicians didn't do a great job of communicating with each other. I finally got some clarity and then called the office to see if I could talk to the technician again. I just had additional questions about the best way to separate out the work so I wasn't responsible for $4000 all in one go. I was told that someone would call me back. That was a month or more ago, and I haven't heard from anyone since, except to receive a letter in the mail reminding me that my quote would expire. I'm sure that Mr. Smokestack was very busy through the fall, but I'm disappointed that my service fell through the cracks. I would still like to have work done, but I don't really want to have to send (7) emails and make (2) phone calls just to try to figure out what I need/want to do.

They arrived early (what, that never happens with other contract services ; ) and were very professional. I appreciated their feedback and the fact that they didn't try to charge me for services that were not needed. I did think the price for inspection & cleaning was a bit high ($129) in general, but I haven't needed my chimney looked at before so that may be the norm. Overall, would highly recommend them!

Eric showed up for both cleaning & repair. Eric is very professional, patient and polite, answered all my questions and took the time to explain things to me as he was working. Jeremy joined him on second visit, and he was also very polite and professional, always answered yes ma'am or no ma'am. I thoroughly happy with their work.

Eric came first to do the inspection and determine what needed to be done. Brad and TJ came a week later to do actual repairs. All three were very professional, courteous, and prompt. I was very pleased and would definitely use them again.

This is unequivocally a loss leader to try to sell other services, many of which seem to be cosmetic and not needed. After several tries I gave up trying to get useful information about different additional services suggested, which had totaled over $10,000. I haven't checked but I am pretty sure I can demolish and build an entirely new chimney for less than that, Still they did a nice and professional job on the chimney and provided a good report.

The inspection showed the cracked panels. They were obvious. Since I decided to replace the chase, which had to be ordered to size, I waited on the fire box panel replacements until the special order chase arrived (about 10 days) and the work could all be done at once. (They did have panels on the truck had I wanted the repair done immediately.)

There explanations were good. I didn't want to spend this kind of money at this time. The price I do not know how it compares. I got the quote immediately I called them and they came within one to two days. They came on time.

He did a throughout good job for me. I have no comparison on price. I have not had anyone else do it. I would use them again.

It was great, he was really thorough and really seemed like he knew what he was talking about.

There were a couple of unforeseen delays, mainly once the siding was removed, the damage was determined to be worse than anticipated which lead to pushing out the repair until they had enough days in a row to complete it. We were given a discount on our bill for an earlier delay. Once work was started, everything when extremely smoothly, the deck area around the chimney was left cleaner than they found it and the chimney looks great. Definitely no more worries about water getting in. Robbie called us often to check in and give us updates.

Went great. When I first called, the phone was answered by a live person who was able to schedule an inspection for me. The technician came out within the scheduled window and took pictures of my existing chimney cap and chase and explained what the problem was. After I agreed to the work, I got a call within an hour to schedule the repair. I was scheduled for 7/12 but then they called this week to say they could do the job the job early. I was called 30 minutes before the tech showed up and when the work was completed, I was emailed before and after pictures showing what work was done. Very professional.

They were honest to let me know that they would not be able to preform the work stated in the deal. They are excellent to deal with. I would highly recommend Mr Smokestack Chimney Service to anyone.
