Mr Smokestack Chimney Service

I have had them out twice for the same service to my gas fireplace only to be told that my equipment was not to code and needed to be reworked. After going through the process of having the building code enforcement of my town look over my unit and the gas lines they found it was in fact built to code. Mr. Smokestack still insist that it needs to be altered to meet todays code. Basically they are saying the building code official I spoke to doesn’t know what he is talking about and I need to spend money to come up to todays code to make them happy or more money, you decide. I would not recommend using them it could be a wast of your time and possibly more expensive than it needs to be if they are not happy with the code at the time your house was built. I would also like to say the technicians who came out were fine the problem lay with the supervisor who felt he knew better than the building code office. Once again beware should you have a older unit not built to todays code.

I emailed them and they said that I needed to call. I did. I left a message because it was busy. No one ever called. I guess they did not want the business. Choosy. I called another service and also left a message. They called back and I made an appointment.

Great job service was fast and the technician explained what he was doing and took pictures.

Technician arrived on site promptly spent about 15 minutes checking out the chimney, told me all the things that needed to be done to it. Then proceeded to tell me that he couldn't do any of them. Gave me the name and number of someone that could"do it on the side". It just didn't seem like they wanted to do any hard repairs.

Not available for over two months to schedule the work. Suggested if I got a maintenance contract I may be able to get in sooner if there was a cancellation. So I guess they do not need any new customers.

Didn't have time to service my request. They should have told Angie's list they couldn't do anymore work. Maybe next year.

Poor and expensive result. After Mr. Smokestack inspected my brick roof chimney for a leak, they said the mortar had to be repointed in spots, and the the chimney waterproofed. The charge for the repointing was $1,450.18, which I paid after the work was allegedly done. I decided that I would postpone the waterproofing to see if I still had a leak after the mortar holes were filled. Well the chimney still leaked and my roofer checked the chimney and said all the holes were not all filled. I called Mr Smokestack's representative again and he told me the leak was because I never waterproofed the chimney and the charge to do that additional work would be $1,485. At that point I searched other chimney repair contractors and found one who inspected the chimney and said he would repoint the holes, waterproof the brick and waterproof the cap where he thought the leak may be coming from all for $1.200 total. The leak was repaired for that amount and not for the almost $3000 that Mr Smokestack would had wound up costing me.

They replied immediately to my correspondence, explained the process, scheduled an appointment, and contacted me when an earlier appointment became available. Each employee greeted me by Ms. W and always addressed me as "Ma'am." Steven, technician, arrived at the earlier part of my timeframe, politely greeted me, diagnosed the problems with my gas fireplace, and thoroughly explained how he was going to complete the maintenance. Steven was professional, ensured he covered his boots each time he entered/exited my home, and made sure he cleaned up his work area before departing. I HIGHLY recommend this awesome company!

They arrived on time, were very courteous, did a thorough check of the entire system and cleaned everything. They put down a tarp in front of the fireplace to protect my floors and then vacuumed around it when they were done.

They were great! They even removed our old, outdated fireplace screen and carted it away. The cost for the cleaning was very reasonable. They provided a quote for additional repairs and services that seemed a bit high so we are still deciding if we want to get all the other work done.

The technicians did a great job repairing the stucco and upgraded the chimney structure. They also installed a gas-log insert that looks great. They were good at responding for my request for a quotation for the repair. That was better than the other chimney repair companies did. It took awhile to get on their schedule, but it was worth the wait.

It just worked for one day , we gave him calls but he never came back to fix it.

It went well, but there was a mismeasurement and the cap had to be refabricated, but they put a rush on it and got it in 2 days. Once the right sized one was installed, it worked perfectly with no leaks. Looks really nice, too. Great people to work with...owner on site for job.

Our tech was professional, called ahead of time to ask whether he could come early, and did a fantastic and quick job with the work. He even took the time to clean out the space under the dryer when we discovered it had been venting into the house! Would absolutely hire again. The office was also a pleasure to work with.
