Mr Smokestack Chimney Service

After having our chimney inspected by a "professional", our chimney still was not drawing up air like it should and the house filled with smoke with each fire we made. So, we contacted Mr. Smokestack, and they came and performed a thorough inspection of our chimney foundation, took video of inside our chimney, and went up on the roof to inspect. They provided a detailed report of their findings with photos. It turns out the our chimney was actually capped and had several large cracks in it that allowed water and smoke inside our home, all of which the previous "professional" did not report to us. Mr. Smokestack instructed us to not use the chimney until it was fixed for safety reasons. We had Mr. Smokestack come back and perform all repairs they suggested. They arrived on time, the workers were very professional and friendly, and the work was finished expertly and quickly. These guys are real professionals, I cannot stress how appreciative we are to Mr. Smokestack for potentially saving our family's lives. I highly recommend!

Chris arrived and explained what he would be doing, he was really friendly and knowledgeable! He took care to place a blanket down so as not to get any soot on the carpet. He also went onto the roof and checked the chimneys for any issues. He did a fantastic job cleaning out the chimneys! It was almost like they were brand new when he was finished. He noted to me some cracks that needed to be addressed and also showed me pictures he took of some rusted parts around the chimney vent that I had no idea was like that. Chris cleaned up and even took two old charred logs that were in the one fireplace (I have no idea how long they were in there) to throw them away for me. He really did a great job and I am so happy knowing my chimneys are now safe and clean! I would definitely recommend these guys and I will be using them again too!

This company is first rate. Customer service is clearly a priority with them. Within 24 hours after I had purchased a Big Deal with them, they called me to schedule -- at that point, it wasn't convenient so I told them I'd call back when my schedule was more flexible. Flash forward several months and I realized I let the deal expire, nevertheless, when I called, they honored it and despite the fact that they were in their busiest time of year, fit me in quickly. Office staff were friendly, helpful, and polite, as were the technicians Chris and Evan. I had been given a two-hour window for the appointment, and Chris and Evan arrived on the button at the start of the two hour window. Super professional -- I felt totally confident that they knew what they were doing. They took their time cleaning the fireplace, making sure everything was functioning properly, and adding new embers to spruce it up. It looked much better when they were done, and I felt comfortable that it was in good working condition. Before the Big Deal, I'd never seen a contractor that offered a gas fireplace tune-up, but it makes a lot of sense to me that any gas appliance should have professional attention periodically (Chris and Evan mentioned every 3 to 5 years, which sounds right to me). Shortly after they left my home, the office called to make sure everything went well. A+ experience. Bravo!

Scheduling was efficient and they were particularly great with communicating and confirming appointments. They showed up on time and we discussed the problems that we were having with the chimney. After a thorough inspection, they provided digital pictures of the chimney and provided a reasonable estimate. The work was completed and they provided digital pictures to show the repairs as well along with additional pictures of the inside of the chimney as well. They did a thorough cleaning and did a great job keeping the space around the fireplace clean as well! I would definitely recommend them and plan to use their services in the future.

Provider was excellent! Cleaned the logs, checked the flames and cleaned the screen. Made sure all was in working order before he left. Would highly recommend this service.

Excellent company all around. The price seemed a bit high but I really don't have a good frame of reference. Brandon was the technician. He treated our home with much respect. Performed a very thorough inspection and identified all issues with photos and written report. The repairs looked wonderful in the end and he even repainted the iron bars that hold the burning logs and fixed a broken door on the fireplace. Thanks!

The technicians who came out to do the work on my chimney were very courteous and professional. They did a good job and made recommendations for things that needed attention that weren't included in this job. That isn't unusual but in this case they took pictures to show me that the chimney crown and flashing were in need of repair. They also recommended that I install a stainless steel chimney liner in order to bring it up to code. Mr. Smokestack gave me a quote to make the repairs but I decided to do the work myself to save some money. After the job was finished they cleaned up and put everything back in its place. Great Job! I highly recommend Mr. Smokestack.

An exceptional job; he spent the time to do it right...and at a fair price. While on the roof (where the last guy never went!), he found a problem that could be serious. But we didn't have to take his word because he had several photos to show us. We'll be using these guys next year!

Chris worked in a very neat manner. He spread a cloth in front of our chimney on the inside. He moved his camera inside the chimney with a special stick and showed us problem areas on a monitor which was connected to the camera. Chris renews his lisense annually. We had similar inspection done around 5 years ago by a company that probably a lot of people who live in Chapel Hill know. We had to pay around $150 for that inspection. But they gave us a much higher estimate for the same kind of work. We decided not to do anything at that point because did not want to pay another $150+ for another inspection. I regret we did not look and find the Mr. Smokestack Chimney before. The other company did not have at that time the kind of camera to let us see by ourselves problem areas inside our chimney. We definitely are going to go ahead and accept the estimate this time. By the way, Angie`s List members get 10% off of work that needs to be done.

The service was great. The appointment was confirmed by the office and the team of two persons arrived on time. They spent the better part of the next two hours cleaning the chimney. As part of the service they also inspected the chimney. This inspection included the use of a camera to determine conditions inside the chimney as well as a visual inspections of the outside conditions including up on the roof.. I will able to view the chimney on the camera with the Mr. Smokestack team. Then they produced a report that explained the conditions and what repairs were necessary. I received a full report as well as an estimate to make the repairs recommended. The list is itemized which is helpful as recommended does not always mean essential repairs. They will be making the repairs as well.

Eric was very professional and a pleasure to have around. There wasn't a spot of dirt from the chimney cleaning when he left. He also explained the process thoroughly and was (I felt) honest and transparent about the inspection results. I will definitely use again.

Very professional. Staff members began by signing 'Chim Chimeree" to me at the font door. They put the shoe covers on and took steps to cover my carpet and the areas surrounding the fireplace. They did an interior and exterior inspection of the fireplace and then cleaned it. They made recommendations as to repairs that need to be made. Both gentleman were polite and courteous. I highly recommend Mr. Smokestack.

They called me within minutes of purchasing the Big Deal! I was quite surprised but exited about that. The appt. was for between 8 and 9 am and Eric showed up at 8:30 - perfect! I showed him the fireplace and told him a little about it - like it hadn't been used since our Dad passed away (he built the house) and we weren't even sure it had ever been used. Eric proceeded to look it over and were conversed at times whilst he worked. He seemed to me to be very knowledgeable about fireplaces, telling me some interesting things about them. He answered any question I had even about the company. We asked about re-facing the fireplace from the red brick and maybe using a piece of marble that we saved from a table-top Dad had made. He said he would have the office send us a link about re-facing the fireplace. I didn't know they did that! Sure- they can make most any changes you'd like to the look of your fireplace! How cool is that? We were quite pleased with the service Eric provided representing Mr. Smokestack. I got an email with that link the very next day! Kudos! Mr. Smokestack. Guy was on time and polite. He did a thorough job cleaning the fireplace and took the time to explain how to operate it (igniter is broken). Good experience and would definitely use again

They arrived on time. Were very courteous and professional. Were respectful of my time and my home (used slip covers on their shoes). Thoroughly explained what they were going to do. And also thoroughly explained their findings and recommendations.

This process was very detailed and thorough and the technician completely explained his findings after he finished. He did a good job for the price and made no mess in the house. The company sent a long report with color photos the next day via email and also responded with additional information when I requested it from them. I will not use this service again because we have moved and do not have a chimney in our new house. However, I do have to say that cleaning is not the main purpose of this business, it is convincing customers that their chimney needs extensive repairs and then providing the repair work. Their proposed repair for the cracks that they reported was almost $4,000. We decided not to do the repair, gas logs are cheaper and less risky.

I contacted Mr Smokestack Chimney Services through their website requesting an inspection and an estimate for services to repair our fireplace and chimney. We have a leak that was missed by another chimney company that was specifically asked to inspect the firewall and chimney before we bought the house. I was quickly called by the main office to set up my appointment and was thoroughly explained the process of the appointment. I also received a reminder call the day before the appointment. On the day of the appointment Brian called me to let me know that they were on their way and would be at my house within 20-25 minutes, shortly after the start of the 2-hour window that they were scheduled to be at my house for the inspection. I found their promptness to be quite a good mark. Upon arrival, they began with taking a photograph of my house for the estimate and made sure to go over my request and expectations of their visit. They then proceeded to thoroughly inspect the firebox, then the chimney from the outside taking pictures the entire time. Lastly, they asked me over while they put their camera up through my chimney showing me and taking pictures of degradation in the flue. They sent all of the pictures to their main office to get the full estimate completed and input into their system. They also took the time to explain the reason for their $0 invoice and their desire for significant customer service, providing documentation of their visit in case of any damages incurred because of the inspection. I found this to be a very thoughtful detail. Both Brian and Chris were extremely thorough and respectful. They took great care to leave the chimney and living room cleaner than when they arrived. They took excellent measures to make sure I fully understood the estimate, what issues they found and my options. It was a privilege to meet such dedicated professionals. After they left, I received copies of all of the estimate and the invoice for their visit as well as options for fireplace doors. I would certainly recommend them solely on their professionalism.

I had the chimney swept and a full inspection performed. The inspection was a very professional 10 page report noting 6 issues with the chimney. At first, I was quite anxious as the total repair cost for fixing all 6 issues noted was several thousand dollars! However, after talking with the owner and another company personnel, I came to better understand just what was in the report and that some of the issues noted may not have immediate consequences. Bottom line, if you receive a report make sure to talk with the owner to get a better understand of what it could mean for your home.
