About 9 years ago, I had a problem with iron in my well water at a former home. I did some research with various local companies advertising water softeners (most provide multiple different services related to water treatment) and then I eventually came across Gene and the crew at AWS. From the very first conversation I had with Gene, it was clear that his level of knowledge related to the subject matter of water treatment and his customer service ethic were both WELL above the level of his closest competitors. To me, those are two of the three legs of the 'sales triangle'. The last leg would be 'quality product'. It doesn't matter what you know or how nice you are if the product that you sell doesn't do the job. Gene took plenty of time to explain the Kinetico system that he was proposing to me, and since Kinetico was not a very well known name in the NC area, he went the extra step of putting me in touch with the factory and getting more detailed information for me about the technical specifics of the product that he proposed. In the end, I selected AWS for the job, Gene personally did the install, and I never looked back. The system performed flawlessly for the 6 years that I lived in the home and to the best of my knowledge, it is still working to this day. About 6 months ago, I discovered that I had a problem at my current home with copper fitting corrosion on the PEX fittings in my plumbing system. Particularly on the hot water lines. I found this the hard way when two of the fittings above the ceiling began to leak within about 4 months of each other. The plumber who did the replacement mentioned that I should have the water tested because he had seen this type of corrosion before on acidic water systems. Sure enough, I went back and looked at the water test that we had done when purchasing the house (3 years ago) and there it was in black and white - ph of 4.8! That's about the same as really strong coffee or really weak wine. Either way, it is not suitable for a fluid flowing in pipes with copper fittings. This time, there was no question about who to call - I ran into Gene while AWS was exhibiting at a local home and garden show. I mentioned the problem, and he pulled out a sheet that discussed acid water in detail, and listed several options for me. The simplest option was to install a Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) neutralizer. This was attractive due to low cost and other items, but the water at my home was VERY soft and VERY 'pure' in all tested categories. As a matter of fact, my only issue was low pH. A by-product of CaCO3 neutralization is that it adds hardness to the water and I couldn't get past that. Gene then suggested that I consider the system that we eventually installed - a soda ash injection system that meters the flow based on the amount of water being used by the household. He sent me several links to the Stenner web site and we exchanged numerous emails concerning the detailed aspects of the system. This product would raise pH, but not add hardness to the water. When I was doing my final evaluation, Gene went so far as to make up some solutions of neutralized water with one using CaCO3 and one using Na2CO3 so I could sample them at my home (he used my water as the test solution and then neutralized it). In the end, I couldn't tell a difference between the feel/taste of the two, but the clincher was when we did a 'soap test' where we added a few drops of soap solution to each water type. The soda ash neutralized water continued to become soapy just like I would normally see when doing laundry. The calcium carbonate neutralized water basically formed a soap scum on top and hardly produced suds at all - the key indicator of water hardness!! At this point, I was convinced and we scheduled the job using the Na2CO3 process. These days, Gene's office has grown and he doesn't to the installs himself any more, so being the picky customer that I am, I was a bit concerned about whether the person who did the work would do things in the same neat fashion that I was used to when working with Gene. No need for concern! Pete - the installer - did a FANTASTIC job. It was clear from start to finish that he took great pride in doing the job right, and doing it neatly. Right down to the final work site cleanup where he was in my crawl space wiping up water that I probably would have been completely fine if he had left in place. Once again, I am very happy with a job from AWS. These systems are not cheap, and Gene understands that when a customer is spending money like this that they have to have accurate and complete answers to any questions. He is great at getting things to the point where you just know that the job will go well, and that it will be successful in the end. The system has been installed for about 5 days now. One nice by product is that I now know how much water I am using in the house due to the meter that was installed to drive the pump controller. The pH at my last sample was about 6.4, and I am tweaking the pump controller up slightly over time to shoot for a value of roughly 7.0 - 7.5. Gene is planning on another visit in the next week or so to inspect the work and do a more sensitive pH measurement, but I am pretty happy that things are going in the right direction now! I have attached a few pictures of the final install. I'll just close and say that if you are looking for water treatment of ANY kind (softeners, reverse osmosis systems, neutralizers, chlorine/iron removal, sulfur removal, etc) you will be doing yourself a favor if you call Gene at AWS and hear what he has to say regarding how to solve your particular problem. I know who I'll call next time I have another issue!

There is a reference under Angie?s List for them and it's excellent. They had put in a watering filtering system for a customer. I read that, but I also know them as they worked around here quite a bit. They are always dropping in and seeing everything is okay. So I got a bid from them to put a water softener. They put it in two weeks and it's beautiful. They came back and checked it. They are very knowledgeable, dependable, fast, professional, and extremely nice. They also put in our whole house water filtering system. They did that and we were familiar with them so they continually come and check that. Anytime if we have problem, they come out and make sure that everything is okay. Whenever anyone wants water softener, I always recommend their name to them. I checked with other people who do it and it's hard to find pricing. However they gave me a reasonable quote and I decided to go with them. I would recommend them and also use them absolutely in future.

I had been concerned about my water quality because we had had a periodic, persistent odor like rotten eggs and taste like chlorine. I interviewed 3 companies. Advanced Water Systems gave me an itemized, signed, dated estimate as well as free water testing at my home. They explained everything in simple, easy-to-understand terminology. This was very different from one other company which seemed to be deliberately trying to confuse me with a lot of complicated terms and mathematical calculations. Advance Water Systems personnel were on time, completely professional, and got the work done within the time frame they said they would do it and exactly at the price they quoted me, to the penny. They gave me a $200.00 discount since I was purchasing 2 products - just because I asked for a package deal.

This is a great system, although expensive. It is non-electric with no timers or computers to set or reset when the power goes out. The dual tank setup provides non-stop conditioned water, even when the system needs to regenerate itself. Our water is great now. Advanced Water Systems seems to be a family run company, and they are super nice people. They followed up 3 weeks after installation and offered to come out for a visit to recheck the water and see if we had any questions. I'm confident if we have any problems, they will be very responsive.
