 + -1 moreI called Jimmy on Saturday and left a message. He called back within five minutes and said he would have someone out to take care of the broken spring Sunday between 11-1pm. Frank, the technician called around 11:15 or so and said he was on his way. Frank arrived took a look at the broken spring and got to work. He replaced the spring, bearing assembly, and lubricated everything and finished the work within 40 minutes. Frank was very knowledgable and answered all of my questions. I was very pleased with the communication and speed of everyone involved, and very pleased that they had folks that work on Sunday. I will definitely use them again for garage door issues and replacement when the time comes.
Description of Work: Called Garage Door Specialists on Saturday due to broken torsion spring on 2-car garage door. They sent technician Frank out on Sunday and he replaced the spring, bearing assembly and lubricated everything.

Description of Work: Our garage door opener was making a grinding sound when it got about a foot off of the ground. After we disengaged it, the door wouldn't stay all of the way up. They replaced a worn gear and the spring that holds the door up. They also greased all of the parts that needed it.

Description of Work: Garage door was not working properly-wouldn't open at all. Called this company and explained the problem. They said they would be out the next day. The technician had to replace a plastic sprocket inside the actual motor. This only took about 30 min. He also lubricated and inspected the rest of the opener. The door is working just fine now.

 + -1 moreEverything went great. Michelle was very courteous and helpful on the phone. Brian likewise was very courteous. He took the time to explain what had happened (the broken spring), gave us an exact price (very reasonable) for replacing the two springs, and indicated the warranty (10 years) on the springs. After we agreed to the price, he replaced the springs, repaired the garage door opener (by getting the chain back onto the sprocket), and cleaned and lubricated the tracks and rollers. It took Brian considerable extra time to get the opener chain back onto the sprocket, but he did not add any additional labor charge onto our bill for this additional work. The only labor charge was the single flat charge he quoted for replacing the springs. Clearly Brian is very knowlegeable and capable at repairing garage doors and garage door openers. He did an excellent, highly professional job. We are very pleased with the service provided to us by the Garage Door Specialist team. They quickly responded to our need and repaired our garage door in a high quality fashion. The price was very reasonable. We strongly recommend Garage Door Specialist to anyone needing repair work on a garage door. When we do eventually decide to buy a new garage door, we will buy it from, and have it installed by, Garage Door Specialist. Kudos and thanks to Brian, Michelle and Jimmy!
Description of Work: When I came home from work, I clicked the remote to open our garage door. The door started to go up, then suddenly crashed down. We were unable to manually lift the door, so we left our car parked in our driveway overnight. We checked Angie's List for garage door repair companies in the Cary area. Garage Door Specialist got excellent reviews, so we decided to go with them. The next day my husband called Garage Door Specialist and spoke with Michelle and arranged for a technician to come to our home later that day. The technician, Brian, arrived at our home even earlier than the block of time (11:00-1:00) indicated by Michelle. Brian quickly determined that one of the springs had broken. He recommended replacing both springs, not just the broken one, since our springs were at least 17 years old. (This was a very reasonable suggestion.) Brian also mentioned that our garage door was starting to warp ("smile"), but he didn't push us towards buying a new door. He indicated our existing door was OK for at least two more years. Brian quickly replaced the springs. He also fixed the garage door opener - the chain had come off the sprocket either because of the door crashing down or because my husband had accidentally pushed the door opener button inside our garage after the door had crashed down. Brian cleaned and lubricated the tracks and rollers and even replaced the burnt out light bulb on our opener unit.

We could have opted to do less than replacing the the spring system we had, but decided to go ahead and replace it to avoid future problems. Dennis worked quickly and efficiently. When he was done he showed us everything that he had done and asked if we had any questions. The door works so well now and we are very pleased with the work done.

 + -1 moreHe said be careful of simply tightening the chain (which some people do as a quick fix) as that usually just causes the problem to get worse more quickly.
Description of Work: Had a garage door that wouldn't fully close (would start to go down and then return). Decided to have a "professional" look at it considering it has done this before and didn't want to have it get worse. Call Garage Door Specialist and got a call back within 30 minutes - they had a technician over at my house a couple of hours later. He immediately noticed that the gear was worn down causing the chain to be loose. He gave me the options and I decided to get it replaced. He was able to make the repair in about 45 minutes - he was also helpful when I called my home warranty company and they actually covered the cost of the repair (minus my deductible). He also lubed my other garage door for free since he was there. Quick service and the door works perfectly now.

 + -1 moreWoke up Saturday morning to find that our garage door had not closed correctly the night before. The opener had pulled it back up and basically destroyed the top panel of the door. Caled Garage Door Speecilaists and they sent someone by 2 that same day. Frank repaired the door enough so it could close, but we both agreed a new door would be needed. By Monday morning, one of the 'GDS' staff called and told me they could install the door that same day between 1 and 5. The guys showed up by 1:30 and my new, much higher quality door was installed and working. Now that is what I call service!

 + -1 moreI made the appointment for the service call and got a next day appointment. The technician was prompt. After spraying WD-40 over the rails and wheels, the door seemed to be in working order. He said he did not know how to fix the locking mechanism and after offering him the operator's manual, he declined and left. My door worked, but not 100%. I called the office to express my disappointment with the service and they were quick to respond with another technician the next day. Brian was able to fix the lock and was determined to get it working properly. He was professional, prompt and friendly. He spent his 2 hour time block figuring out the problem, then had to leave to another call, he came right back and fixed the problem. He gave me honest information about what to do in the future if I have more issues with this particular brand. He definitely saved the day and the reputation of the Garage Door Specialists. I had a somewhat rocky impression, but now I wouldn't hesitate to call and request him personally.
Description of Work: My garage door opener (Wayne-Dalton I Drive) would not function properly. It would only partially lift the door. Also the locking mechanism was not working.

 + -1 moreCalled and someone came out the next day, quickly determined the problem, fixed it, tightened up some bolts that had come loose (that fixed a funny clicking noise it had been making for years), installed safety cables (per my request), greased everything. Completely satisfied with the work and price! Will definitely use them again if have any garage door problems again!

I thought I was going to need a whole new door so Jimmy gave me some prices however given the issue I was having, he wanted to have someone come out and take a look. Scheduling the appointment was easy, Jimmy came out the next day and it was determined that a simple repair was all that was necessary. I was given a verbal quote for the service and that was the final cost. The repair, as opposed to a full door replacement, saved me around $700.00. Great customer service!! I will defiantely use Garage Door Specialists in the future.

 + -1 moreTechnician arrived on time and went straight to work. He was extremely efficient and checked over everything to ensure safe operation. His name was Dennis and he was cordial and spent time instructing us on the operation of our new door, how to change the codes, warranty, and any followup issues. Dennis left our garage clean, taking all debris with him, and also took time to answer all our questions. Best of all they offered a great product with a great warranty and the best price out there. The other companies we called were quick to sale extra services or push a lower quality opener at a higher price. But Garage Door Specialist was the only one that fullfilled all our needs - quality, warranty, pricing and service. So my wife and I are very satisfied with our experience with them.

I found Garage Door Specialists on Angie's List and wrote to them after 6pm. I had a response within two hours that night, and made arrangements for a technician the very next day. They arrived on time, they immediately evaluated the problem, they immediately provided me with estimated work needs, and then proceeded to completely fix it. All of this was accomplished by a friendly and competent professional, at an extremely reasonable financial rate - both for the parts and for the labor required. I am thrilled, relieved, and extremely grateful. I highly recommend this company, and will definitely recommend them to my friends and associates as well.
Description of Work: My garage door is twenty years old. The steel spring on one side had deteriorated with wear and tear, snapped, and the door could no longer be lifted. Garage Door Specialists replaced the broken spring as well as the spring on the other side that was about to break, providing balance and safety. All bolts and screws and other parts of the mechanisms were evaluated, tightened, and brought to their best status to ensure more safe usage. I was also advised on how to be aware of future wear and tear, and an estimate of potential costs when that issue arrives (replacing rollers).

 + -1 moreI woke up on a Saturday morning to go to work and my garage door didn't make it all the way down. In fact, it jammed into the railing breaking off some of the rollers. I had to physically close the door, which I'm sure did even more damage. I happen to be off work the following Monday. I called them around 830, they had a technician to my house at 3:00. It only took him a few mintues to figure out the problem and he was able to repair it in about 1.5 hours....which itself was impressive because I think it took me about 25 minutes just to shut the door on Saturday so I could go to work:) Excellant customer service!! Arrived on time, performed the repairs in a timely manner at a very reasonable cost (cheaper than what I thought it would be). I was impressed with every aspect of this company; especially the fact that I called them in the morning to tell them my garage door malfunction and they arrived the same day to repair it....that's service!! They were very knowledgeable and professional. My garage door works better now then it did when it was new. I would recommend this company to anyone who is in need of garage door service/repair.

The next day the technician kept me informed of his schedule and arrived right on time. He diagnosed the problem quickly and gave me a quote and said the problem would take five minutes to fix. In that time he fixed the door and lubricated the hinges. He was professional and courteous. I thought the price was high, but it is not too unreasonable. I would use this company again.

I explained that my garage door wouldn't open, but it wasn't an emergency, since I have a 3-car garage and the other door was working. Regardless, they were able to schedule a technician for the next day. (Keep in mind this was scheduled for Friday before the long holiday weekend!!!) She gave me the name of the technician I should expect and the time he would arrive. The next day, even though he was experiencing vehicle issues, Bob arrived on time and was very professional. He checked the garage door and explained what would need to be done to repair it. He had to move some items in the garage in order to get to the workings of the door - but never once complained. Bob replaced the torsion unit and cable, readjusted the door and ensured all was working properly. I was completely pleased from start to finish with the entire repair project. If I need more garage door work, I won't call anyone else. Cannot recommend Garage Door Specialists enough!

 + -1 moreOur 15-year-old Craftsman garage door opener suddenly stopped working. It would buzz for 30 seconds, but the chain would not move. I called Garage Door Specialist at 10:00 PM, and I left a message. Jimmy (the owner) called back within 20 minutes. He asked me a few questions and then he was able to diagnosis it accurately over the phone: the teeth on the plastic gear had stripped. He gave me a reasonable price for replacing the gear: $65 for parts plus $85 for the service call. He also gave me the option of replacing the entire system with a more modern belt system for $335 plus tax. That price included everything: his visit, all labor, and the system itself. There was absolutely no pressure from Jimmy for me to get the new system rather than fixing the 15-year-old system, but I decided to go with the new system. He made an appointment for the next morning. The technician came, examined our broken garage door opener, confirmed Jimmy's over-the-phone diagnosis, and made sure we understood that we did have the option to simply replace the broken part. We asked him to replace the entire system. He finished within an hour. He showed us how to use it and helped us set up the code for the outdoor keypad and tested everything. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Replaced the entire garage door opener system with a belt-driven system. These new items were installed: the opener itself, the optical safety sensors that go on the floor, the outdoor keypad, the switch that goes by the inside door, and two remotes for the cars. In addition, the technician thoroughly cleaned the garage door and oiled everything that needed oiled. The price included the purchase of the new system and its installation, a $10 discount for the Angie's List coupon, and sales tax.

Description of Work: The spring on my garage door was cracked in half. When the garage door opener did not close the door, I manually released it sending it crashing down.  + -1 moreI am so happy that I called Garage Door Specialists. The day before they came out, we had another contractor come out to hopefully fix the problem. That other company, Precision Door, said that we needed to replace the whole system, including springs, plates, and rollers, to the tune of $900! Precision Door had replaced all these items in 2001 for the previous owner, and it didn't seem like anything was wrong with them. The problem obviously was in the motor- we could tell that the relay wasn't working properly. The technician even said that the part of the problem was because the door was extremely heavy- well duh, it's made out of wood. We said "No Thanks!", and paid them $40 for a service call. Dennis evaluated the situation, saw that the relay wasn't working properly, and fixed it. I asked him if we needed to replace the springs, plates, and rollers, and he said not at all. He recommended that we oil the moving parts regularly. Our door works fine for $75. What if I had said okay to the other company for $900! Yikes, how many people are getting ripped off? Thanks again for great service at a great price. I will highly recommend you to my friends!
Description of Work: Our 30-year old All-o-Matic garage door wasn't opening- just buzzed when we pressed the switch. This wasn't an emergency because we could open and close the door manually. I called several companies to check fees for service calls and availability. They were available the next afternoon; worked perfectly for my schedule. Dennis called prior to his arrival to let us know that he was on his way.
