VERY professional. Technician was prompt and arrived at the scheduled time on both visits. On the first visit the technician verified all possible issues for the dead dishwasher before identifying the control board as a problem, which I appreciated since the control board replacement would be the most expensive fix. The control board was ordered, but it took well over a week-10 calendar days-to get from the need to order the part to the technician being available to install the replacement. This was a big long considering it was a somewhat "major" appliance outage. The actual installation of the control board was fast and painless-again, the technician was completely professional in every possible way.
Description of Work: Dishwasher had a blown control board, the technician came and diagnosed the problem and then ordered the appropriate part, then installed it on a second visit.

Called DK on Tuesday and scheduled the service for the following Monday. Chris (service tech) came on Monday to look at the dryer and determined that the heating element/coil needed to be replaced. He showed me the coil and where it was broken, odered the part and told me that I would be receiving a call about scheduling him to call back the following day (Tuesday) to replace the part - which I did. Everything went well and service tech was on time (he called when he was about 15-20 minutes from arriving) and got right to work when he arrived at my house. And the best part is I can now dry my clothes!

As always, K+D responded immediately to my call and came out within one day. There was a broken part which he showed us and then he ordered a new part which arrived within a week. He came back and fixed it with no difficulties. I just came on Angies List to call them again about a washer problem I am having and read the below comment. I can assure this member that I have used them on several occasions after Sears told me I would have to wait for 10 days for a repair person to visit my home. And yes, I give them all "A's" because that is what they deserve in my case. i am real and would be happy to confirm that I am a human and do not work for or am not related to this company in any way. No dog in this hunt for sure.

At every turn, they were incompetent and uninterested in helping us, probably because it was a cheap and easy fix that wasn't going to bring in a lot of money ($50 part). Kenmore appliances are so widespread that I'm surprised a pro wouldn't know how easy it is to get a model number direct from Sears (they just look it up by delivery address -- and our dishwasher, we learned, is from 1997). The one tiny piece of work Kris did was to transfer the elbow connector from the old valve to the new one. But he just screwed two bare metal pipes together -- no thread tape, no sealant, nothing. So of course it leaked, and I had to track down the leak, undo his work, and fix it myself. I'm lucky I noticed it -- it was a slow leak, and would have just slowly rotted out the floor under the dishwasher. If *I* know to use thread tape on plumbing projects -- and I'm no handyman -- anyone calling themselves a professional should know. We picked them because of their stellar Angie's List ratings. When I looked closer, however, they had an unnaturally high percentage of straight-A ratings, and more than twice as many reviews as anyone else in town. I suspect that many of those reviews are illegitimate, and would *not* recommend these folks, nor would I work with them again.
Description of Work: Kris came out a total of three times. The first time, he correctly diagnosed the problem -- inlet valve on the dishwasher. He removed the old valve but was unable to find the model number. He tried a replacement part that didn't work, then gave up and left. He took the old broken part with him and left us the broken replacement, saying he couldn't do anything more for us. My wife tracked down the model number via Kenmore / Sears customer service and ordered the correct replacement part. While we were waiting on shipping, Kris did eventually return the original part (in our mailbox). However, they had wedged the wrong replacement part on so hard that we were unable to get it off to install the correct part. After some badgering, they agreed to come back out and install the part we had ordered at no additional charge. They came out and removed the bad part, but refused to install the new one. They told us we needed to replace the copper piping (from the emergency shutoff under the sink to the inlet valve) with flexible tubing, which they provided (to their credit). But they refused to install it because it would require drilling a new 3/4" hole through a cabinet, and they claimed they couldn't (wouldn't?) do that. After a few days of trial, error, and leaks, I finally installed the new part and tubing myself.

The folks at DK were courteous and prompt. The repairman easily identified the problem and when they had to return to "tweak" the repair, did so the day they were notified. The "C" on quality and price isn't their fault - seems like everything nowadays is made cheaply and without the quality of manufactured goods we had years before.

As described above the whole experience from start to finishe went very well and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: The dishwasher had been leaking a small amount from the front left corner of the door. I did not know who to contact so I checked Angies List and decided on DK Appliance, I called DK and based on my descripion he assumed it was the door seal. He replaced it and it did not take him very long. However, it still leaked a small amount after that so I called the company back. He came out on his next open appointment which was not a problem as it was only 2 work days later. He readjusted the seal and tightened something on the door. I have used it almost daily since then and it is no longer leaking. He was very nice and I would definitely use this company again.

I found Chris to be extremely knowledgeable, honest and friendly. His assistant, Dawn, is also very friendly. She was incredibly patient with my boyfriend, who called back a couple of times to ask follow-up questions about the damaged part. I will definitely be using DK Appliance again!!
Description of Work: My washer made a terrible squealing noise and then when I opened the lid I saw smoke. I called DK Appliance on Wednesday, August 29 and was able to get an appointment for a diagnosis on Friday, August 31. On Friday, Chris - the owner - showed up early, which I really appreciated. Chris's first job was with Maytag, and he was extremely familiar with my washer (also a Maytag). Chris was able to diagnose the problem within a few minutes, and offered an honest opinion that we should invest in a new machine rather than repair this one. He said his assistant would call us with an estimate within the hour (she called within 30 minutes). On his way out, Chris also offered to take a quick look at our dishwasher (it is a Maytag brand) to make sure it wasn't a model that was recalled.

Our washing machine's spin cycle stopped working (it would agitate, fill, & drain -- but not spin). Chris came to our house to take a look at it. Our washer is an older Maytag and he was very familiar with it, as he used to work for Maytag. Our problem was a failed transmission. Chris told us this was very common for a Maytag of this era -- however, he took the time to thoroughly check the problem... he didn't just "assume" it was the usual culprit (the transmission), he actually pulled it apart and looked at it himself. Due to the complexity of the repair & the cost of the parts, the price for a fix would be about $400. He offered to fix it, but was honest with us -- we would likely be better off to just buy a whirlpool or Kenmore and not put more money into the Maytag. Since there was no repair work to do, he offered to look at our dishwasher & fridge to see what condition they were in. The fridge checked out fine, but he did mention that our dishwasher may be subject to a recall. He did not try to sell us anything or pressure us. We felt that he was very professional and to the point. He didn't try to talk our ear off -- he simply stayed focused on the job and seemed very knowledgeable. I only have one complaint about the entire process -- every time I tried to call the company initially to set an appointment, they NEVER answered the phone. I kept getting a message with the previous days' date on it saying they would open later. Each time I left a message, they were prompt in responding, but I can't take personal calls at work so we played a lot of phone tag. This is why I rated them "B" in responsiveness. Otherwise, we were very happy with their service and would use them again if a need arises.
Description of Work: Diagnosis on a failed washing machine. They charged a one-time fee of $65 for the service call (inspection, diagnosis) and then whatever parts & labor are required for repair. We opted not to have the repair completed due to the severity of the problem.

I contacted DK repair on 8/17 and they scheduled an appointment for 8/21. The technician, Chris, arrived on time and quickly diagnosed the problem - the flap inside the ice maker was broken and needed replacing. He ended up replacing the ice chute (with a kit from Kenmore) and repaired the problem. I was impressed with DK's responsiveness and quality.

The service tech came at the expected time one business day after contacting them. Immediately he suspected a bad motherboard based on the sound from the refrigerator/freezer. After thawing out the dispenser in the freezer section, he got the water dispenser to work. Since we wanted it to be fully repaired instead of turning the temperature settings up and hoping for the best, he returned promptly as expected in a couple days and replaced the motherboard. The unit has worked without fail since then and it has been about 3 months now. Also the "whirring" sound is gone. The tech was professional in doing the work.
Description of Work: The water dispenser was not working on our side-by-side GE refrigerator/freezer. The dispenser section in the freezer door was thawed out, which fixed the immediate problem. A couple days later he returned to replace the bad motherboard which was causing the compressor not to cycle off sufficiently.

He had to completely remove the microwave from over the range in order to install the new fan, but replaced everything as it was after the fan had been installed. The microwave actually is much quieter now during operation than when it was first installed new and has been working perfectly (which makes me wonder if the fan was faulty from the start and then just eventually completely failed). I was very pleased with D&K and will definitly call them in the future for appliance repair.
Description of Work: Our over the range microwave oven was not working properly. It just didn't sound right even though it appeared to be heating and the oven was past warranty. I contacted D&K repair after reading other reviews on Angie's List. They took my information and were able to come out the next day. The service person took the unit apart and diagnosed the problem due to an internal cooling fan that was not working and had to order a new one from the manufacturer. The new fan took about a week to come in and D&K promptly scheduled an installation service and completed the job. They did require payment for the fan in advance as he said that they had been burned on similar repairs where the person decided not to go ahead with the repair after they purchased the replacement parts.

A very quick initial visit established that the electronic panel was the cause of the broiler not working. The part needed to be paid for and ordered. It took several weeks for the part to come in. and was then replaced in a quick visit. The scheduled visit had to be delayed until the next morning when appointments ran over, but it was not a problem. The repair man was very helpful through out and urged us to keep the old part since everything except the broiler control worked. He pointed out that if something went out again, having this would help us have a working oven while a part was ordered again. We appreciated that advice! He also warned us of the usual problems in this model and the stress on ovens when using the self-clean. All good advice.

I am a bit late with writing this review but I guess better late than never. I was very happy with this company. Fixed my dryer for less than $100.00 dollars..their appt. turnaround time was less than 24 hours, he showed up on time and had the parts to fix the dryer and it was been running fine since. Very happy with the service and company.
Description of Work: my 14 year old dryer randomly stopped running...it was still drying clothes fine but randomly wouldn 't turn on. I got DK appliance name from Angie's list. I left message on a sunday and on Tuesday morning, he came by and told my husband it was the fuse, fixed it for a total cost of $90.00 and was in and out within one hour. He showed up on time as promised and dryer has been running fine since.

Polite, responsive initial phone call with DK. Quick service (it was not an emergency so two days before service was fine -I did not ask for emergency service). Great tech, very helpful with Preventative Maintenance suggestions. Would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: My dryer stopped working last Friday. I called DK and they set up an appointment for today between 3:00 -5:00. Technician called me at 4:10 and told me he was on his way and would be here in 15 minutes (he was). Very polite and professional tech -twenty minutes later the dryer was working. The technician also gave me a number of tips about preventative maintenance on the dryer that was quite helpful information. Highly recommended -and it is a local, family owned company. My dryer is an 11 year old Kenmore Elite series.

The guy from DK was great, professional, on-time and quick. We had a fridge that didn't sound good and he came out to give us an estimate for repairs. Exactly what I was looking for - a professional repair service at a reasonable price. There was an issue with the original repair of my dishwasher and DK responded promptly, professionally and to my satisfaction. The appointment set up process is also handled professionally. DK arrived as scheduled. The total price included two visits to my home and the purchase of a electronic circuit. I could see this costing over $400 with a standard corporate repair service. I heartily recommend DK and would definitely use their service again. Thanks!

My washing machine stopped working abruptly and had no power. Technician came out and diagnosed problem, ordered part and installed. However, it immediately broke again. He came back out (free of charge) and discovered another part failure. He ordered that part for me expedited and installed it within a couple of days. He was very professional, very knowledgeable. Most of all he and the company are HONEST and TRUSTWORTHY! I highly recommend them for service. He explained everything to me. When he arrived he introduced himself and offered to take off his shoes. Every time he came he offered to take off his shoes. He was very professional and willing to answer any questions.

I got company info from a friend using Angie's List. My refrigerator went out suddenly. I called around to several companies desperate to get someone within 24 hours. The receptionist at DK was very pleasant. She even attempted troubleshoot the problem on the phone. The fee was straightforward (and cheaper than the 3 other places I called by the way, including the GE service company). The serviceman turned out to be the owner. He was pleasant and professional. My refrigerator magically started working again so there was nothing to fix, which was nice, but he didn't try and sell me on something I didn't need and was happy to have me pay the service fee only. Overall, was a great experience and I would use this company again if something is wrong with one of my appliances.

We got DK's number from Angies List and contacted them. I spoke with Dawn and explained our troubles. It was a strange issue with the refridgerator sometimes working and sometimes not. We just weren't sure what the problem was but Dawn didn't mind. She set up an appointment for us to have a technician come out. Dawn was so great to work with, I have a hectic schedule and sometimes am hard to reach by phone. Dawn stuck with it and used email to make sure we had the information we needed. On the day of the appointment, my wife had to go to the hospital. I emailed Dawn to let her know we might be a little late getting back. She coordinated with the technician and made sure that he gave us a call about 30 minutes before he was going to arrive. That was a huge weight off our shoulders and when you are stressed already, that can make all the difference. Our technician was excellent, he was so friendly and professional. He didn't mind any of my questions and took his time to explain what the issue was. A part had to be ordered and he took care of getting the information and getting it shipped. Dawn was fantastic following up with us once the part came in and had to play phone tag with me for a couple of days :) The weekend before the tech was supposed to come out, we had an electrical storm and our small wine fridge in our kitchen island failed. I called Dawn to see if they could help and she said to just let the tech know and see if he could take a look at it. After installing the replacement piece to the main fridge I mentioned the wine fridge and he had no problem taking a look at it. He helped me extract it from the center island, and I mean extract...it wasn't an easy process. This poor gentleman was laying on our kitchen floor working out a way to check on the compressor. Now that is customer service. Wow. It has been great working with DK and we have found our "go to" company for all of our future appliance repair needs! Thanks to Dawn and her expert technician for all their hard work and thanks Angie's List for getting us connected!

Had a problem with our electric dryer. If you opened the door while the dryer was running, a spark would shoot out and throw the circuit breaker. Saw good reviews for DK on Angie's List so I called them. Dawn answered the phone and was very friendly and professional. We set the appointment and Dawn said Chris would call when he was on his way to my home (which I appreciated very much).Chris came out but we couldn't replicate the problem (door would spark when opened). After a couple of weeks, problem returned. Chris came out again and determined it was the dryer belt. Because DK offers a free return trip within 90 days for the same issue, this second trip didn't cost me anything. When the part came in, Chris came back and replaced the dryer belt. When he was replacing the belt, he saw where the old belt had rubbed 2 wires together and that was causing the sparking issue. Again, there was no trip charge. The only cost to me on the third trip was for the dryer belt. Both Dawn and Chris were great to deal with. Friendly, professional, polite, and punctual. The type of true customer service that's so hard to find any more. I would certainly use them again and also recommend them to my friends. Keep up the great work DK!

When we went to get some ice and water from the dispenser, the ice in the ice maker had all melted causing the water to leak onto the floor through the front door ice dispenser. We checked the freezer and everything had defrosted and the refrigerator side was not cooling either. When I called DK Appliance Repair the phone was answered by a person. After explaining the problem, I was informed that there was a $65.00 service fee that would be applied towards any repairs made. We scheduled an appointment for the next day and the repair person called 15 minutes before arriving at our home just as the scheduler had said he would. The diagnosis was that the compressor switch was faulty. The technician tried to clean the metal part that had melted onto the compressor so that there may be a possibility that we would only need to replace the switch. He told me that he had been successful only one other time in trying to do this. It didn't work and he had to get a new compressor for us. He said that within 15 minutes someone would call to schedule a date and time for him to return to install the new compressor. In less time than that, Dawn called and we set up the day and time for the repair and she explained what the cost minus the $65 service fee would be. The same technician arrived promptly after calling to let us know he was on his way on the repair date and completed the installation of the new compressor with a 60 day warranty. The two employees that I dealt with were both very professional and personable. Their costs are very reasonable and I consider them very honest and courteous.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem and repaired Whirlpool refrigerator that was 9 years old and no longer cooling.
