Bartlett Tree Experts

Although he's still working as I type, the crew member who came today has already met the expectations I had from the very first meeting with the arborist. I don't know what happened with the first crew, but the arborist and this man today have certainly responded positively.

They were responsive to my request for an estimate. They surveyed the situation, gave me a recommendation and quoted the lower of the estimates I had received. When I was ready, I scheduled the work, they advised me about Duke Energy and power lines, did the work on time. Very professional.

Jeff came out to meet with me and was great about answering all my questions about the trees. We knew we the trees needed care, but weren't sure of our options. Jeff was great about making suggestions and explaining his reasoning. He followed up with me via email with an estimate and a date for the work. He knew we needed to notify neighbors about the work being done, and was great about setting a date with enough notice for us to contact the neighbors. Their professionalism really shined through when, because of a miscommunication about the date of work, they came a week earlier than I expected. I explained to the crew that I was expecting them the following week, per Jeff's email, and they were very understanding. Later Jeff followed up with me to re-confirm the date. In reviewing our emails, I could see that it was likely that the date Jeff had given me in his final communication was a typo. I'm sure this caused some disruption for the company and their work schedule, and greatly appreciated that they managed their work schedule adjustments internally and seamlessly from my perspective.

When I called Bartlett, it wasn't long that day that they contacted me. I needed them to evict some tent caterpillars from a weeping cherry tree. They told me that they'd send someone out to look at the tree and email me an estimate. humm... no face-to-face contact?? I wondered but I thought about it and decided that this was a good thing because I wasn't strapped to my house that day waiting for someone to arrive - and after all it will be Barlett vs The Caterpillars and why do I really need to be involved. I indeed did get an email estimate which noted that they were out to the property. The estimate was lower than a verbal one I received later in the day by another company. I decided to make an appointment for the spray. They came out the NEXT morning and showed up 10 min early - which I so appreciated. The man came to my door to let me know he was here (face-to-face - good!!) and he said that a near by tree, also a cherry, was showing signs of caterpillars as well and asked for permission to treat that tree as well. I thought that was very thorough and I appreciated it. He informed me that I will get a bill in the mail (huh! Cool! That will give me time to see if indeed the caterpillars are no longer chopping on my tree). They were professional, didn't disrupt my day, the estimate arrived via email when he said it would and they were back out to my property less than 24 hours later!! Can't complain about that. Since the service was great (EASY!!) I asked, via email, to be put on an Automatic Spray for next year. I received a quick response that it will be done. WOW - how prompt and professional - and how nice not to have to worry. We are in the middle of a remodel and I am chasing down this and that person and calling everyone back a SECOND TIME who I have left messages for. I didn't have to do that with Bartlett and I feel that they did value my time and took my one tree, a small job for them I'm sure, (which turned out to be 2) very seriously. THANK YOU. It went well. We have some small things we need to wrap up, but generally, they were pretty good.

They were exceellent . They are not cheap thou as you get what you pay for. .i will use them again in the furture.

It went very well, they came when they said they would come. They were educated and articulate in their field. They worked safely, did an excellent job and cleaned up after themselves.

Their arborist came out and gave us an assessment of our trees. Some of our neighbor’s Bradford pears have been splitting but he said our trees were in good shape and just needed trimmed and more mulch. He provided the estimate for the work, scheduled the work, and had a crew come out to take care of it. They had a machine with a lever arm and a basket that someone can ride around in so they didn’t have to get on the grass. It was a good experience and they are well equipped. We got lower estimates but we trusted them because they seemed like the experts.

I am happy so far with their work. They are going to be servicing the trees all this month. I wrote a check for $160 for two trees for their last service. The trees have to recover and it’s not something that happens overnight. I wanted to try and save the trees. The trees weren’t planted properly from the beginning. The root systems were harming the growth and the health of the trees. So, they came in and excavated around the roots. They did that for both the maple trees that are about 7 or 8 years old maybe in late spring. Then they came and treated for the gloomy scale disease in July. They said that there would be two treatments. I think their estimates were on target. We aren’t sure if the trees are going to survive, but I am giving them every opportunity. They were very professional and punctual. They sent a botanist to examine the trees and to make a diagnosis. Then they came up with a plan and executed it. It has been good so far. The botanist was very knowledgeable. He was easy to work with. He was very impressive with his knowledge base. I would use them again. They are coming back in October to give the trees a second treatment for gloomy scales. I think everything is on target with that as well. I need to give my trees the assistance they need to survive. I would recommend them. In fact, I would highly recommend their botanist. I would use them again. I don’t have anything to compare their price to. I have never hired tree service people or a botanist. I have never handled that type of situation before. However, I think it’s worth it if it saves my trees. The maple trees aren’t fully grown yet, but the trees wouldn’t make it unless they intervene. You can drive around Raleigh and see trees that are suffering from gloomy scales. Those trees may all die if they aren’t treated. If the trees in my neighborhood are suffering and not going to get treated, then the people are going to lose their trees. I have a neighbor who lost a maple tree and it was probably due to gloomy scales. I hope I got to my trees on time.

Very responsive when we called them for an estimate. They came out looked over trees and gave us a price. They said someone would be out in a few days to spray. It rained that day so we knew they could not do it that day but never heard from them until a week later when they just showed up to spray the tree.

Excellent work. Austin Proctor was very knowledgable and thorough in planning the work to be done. He also took time to educate me about the trees in the yard. He held the crew to high standards and made sure I was completely satisfied with their work. I highly recommend this organization and would hire them again.

The first time they came out was when I just bought my house. I had nine oak trees, so I wanted them to evaluate them. They cut off all the dead limbs. Another time, they came and did some fertilizing for me. The main person I talk to is Jeffrey Kish and he was very thorough. He was also on the radio and talked about trees and things like that. He is personable and likes to share and teach. I had a positive experience with them. Everything was excellent. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future.

Everything was great. The guy in charge was very professional and very knowledgeable about trees. They showed up exactly on time, did great work, and cleaned up perfectly.

They were good. They came out and took an estimate and I and not sure if I was here or not. Their estimate was for $350 and that is what it ended up costing me. They were an A all the way through. I thought it would cost me more because it was a big tree.

They are a big company and very professional people. I have used them many times.

They were very knowledgeable, asked me to come look at the work at various stages, to get it just the way I wanted it, also made suggestions for future pruning schedules ( I was trying to reduce the size of a very large holly, to let more light into my house). I even asked for them to trim the ligustrum more after they had already finished it and they did it with no problems. Outstanding, and I plan to use them again in the next two years, also recommended them to my daughter and son in law. They were done in just a half day, and cleaned up very well.

The crew consisted of 3 workers, they were there a little ahead of time simply becuase it was lunch time. They got to work and it only took 1.5 to 2 hours to have everything cut, chipped and cleaned up.

The salesmen came out and he and I got along good. I think they were honest. I've worked with other tree companies before, but these guys were friendlier and more customer-oriented.

Overall it was a good experience. Some miscommunication meant them coming back to grind a couple more stumps at a nominal, but fair, cost. The time lapse from getting a quote to getting the work complete was very short. The trees were removed between our house and a neighbors. The debris when they were finished was non-existent, but for the ground stumps. They do not remove the material from the stumps, but as they recommended, it makes for great mulch.

Tree was removed from the driveway first, so I could get out, if I needed. The cost of cutting the tree seemed expensive and the tree was cut to about 8 inches above the ground, which I will have to have removed. I expected all the tree to be removed for the cost.

We live on a wooded lot with many mature oak and pine trees (I'm guessing about 50-60 feet tall), several of which are very close to the house. Our concerns were: 1) In the event strong winds (storm/hurricane), are any of these trees in danger of crashing onto our house? 2) One oak in particular has a long-standing large hole at the base of its trunk. It is only about 10 feet from the house. Could it be that although the tree looks healthy, it is actually weak and hollow and about to fall? 3) We wanted a quote on taking down three of the larger trees (two dead, one ugly). I called Bartlett on Sept. 3 for their complimentary property assessment. An appointment was set up with Austin Proctor, a certified arborist, for the following Wednesday at 1:00. Mr. Proctor arrived on time, walked and discussed the property with me and then spent about an hour evaluating the trees and preparing a detailed itemized proposal. As he presented the proposal, Mr. Proctor showed and explained exactly what he recommended and why. To my surprise, he said none of the trees were in danger of falling on our house, including the oak with the big hole at its base (he said the hole was an old, healed wound). He did, however, recommend: 1) Pruning out dead, diseased and broken branches 2" and larger in diameter and branches overhanging the chimney. Price for twelve trees, including debris removal, would be $980.00. 2) An annual fertilization treatment (which is injected into the ground) for six of the most important trees to help maintain plant health. Price for the six trees would be $325.00 per annual application. The price to take down the three dead/ugly trees would be $1170.00, including removal of debris. To grind down two of the three stumps (one is so dead there won't be much of a stump): $160.00 Mr. Proctor was friendly, polite, professional and knowledgeable, freely taking the time to answer questions like "Why is that tree leaning?" and "How can I tell the difference between a white oak and a red oak?" and "How old is that tree?" He was not at all pushy and at no time did I feel pressured to have the work done. He provided his phone number and email address in case I had any further questions. It is now one week later and, although I got my free consultation, I have not received any pesky follow-up sales calls. We will probably hire Bartlett for everything except the fertilizing, which is just not in our budget at this time.

Pretty good professional team did the work and cleaned up well. Pricey job, but well done.

They made it look very nice. They did a fine job. It really made a difference on the look of the house. We had a lot of branches that in wet weather came down and touched the top of the car and the driveway. They cleaned up a lot of that kind of stuff. They cleaned the yard very well.

I was very unhappy with the way I was treated. If a company does not have the time or inclination to deal with me as a customer, I have no problem with that. Just let me know that you cannot help me and I'll move on. I WILL find someone more qualified and more professional who will do the work and be happy to take my money.
