Description of Work: Sperling Concrete installed a concrete sidewalk which was the Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. They also installed a concrete ramp to our front porch. Of course we paid extra for the ramp since it was not part of the Big Deal purchase but it was very reasonably priced. | |The work was all done in one day. The workers were professional and efficient. Everything looks great and is just what we needed. We can now walk to our driveway without having to walk across the grass. My wife loves the ramp to the front porch since it is hard for her to go up steps. | |There was a delay of several months between the time when we purchased the Deal and when the work was done but that was because we were not ready to have the work done when we purchased the Big Deal. Mr. Sperling contacted us soon after we purchased the Deal and I told him we were not quite ready. Once I contacted Mr. Sperling to let him know we were ready he soon came to the house to talk to us about what we wanted. Mr. Sperling was very professional and worked with us to get everything completed. | |I would reccommend Sperling Concrete to anyone in this area who needs to have some concrete work done.

Description of Work: replaced driveway plus 3 walkways I bought a big deal for $599 for Concrete Patio, Walkway or Driveway. That covered 100 sq feet of concrete. The estimate was completed promptly. We had a hard time scheduling a time to have the work done. I finally requested and received a refund from Angie's list because I just never could get a time to start even though I talked with Mr. Sperling several times. Then he came out, added the additional work we wanted done to the original estimate and scheduled the job. The work was completed the week it was scheduled and the crew did a great job. We had 12.5 yards of concrete poured. That included removal and replacement of our driveway and walk plus creation of 2 additional walks. We are very happy with the results. I think the price was reasonable.

+ -1 moreThey came out and gave me a quote but I ended up not using them. Their cost of service was about $1000 to add some curbing to the front of my lot. He was very up front, he told me everything that I needed to know and he suggested that I contact the city to let them know I was putting up a curb on their road. So I contacted the city and they indicated that I do not put curbing up so that's why I didn't do it.

+ -1 moreDidn't follow instructions and cut the curb incorrectly (not up to street asphalt as instructed) causing a steep drop at bottom of driveway where cars bottom out. Just cost me another $1,800 with a different vendor to correct problem.

+ -1 moreNorm Sperling came out the same day to examine the job and provided a written estimate. He carefully explained how the job would be done and how the end result would look. We were in a hurry to get the job done before Thanksgiving and Norm assured us that he would work us into his schedule to make that happen. His crew arrived within a few days. They immediately went to work and were careful in pouring the concrete to keep the surrounding area clean. We were very pleased with the work and the expertise of the crew.
Description of Work: Sperling Concrete (and two others) was asked to come out and examine our driveway and provide an estimate. The job required a concrete sawcut and the installation of a channel drain.

+ 0 moreMy tenant in the rental house actually found Sperling Concrete and asked me to talk with them about the job and requested that I pay for the repair. I talked to the representative, got an estimate, gave the go-ahead and approved the finished job. I could not have been more pleased with the results and my tenants were very appreciative about not having to step in puddles of water to get in the door.
Description of Work: Front stoop and back porch concrete areas were too low and regularly had standing water during and after a rain. Mr. Sperling did a wonderful job of adding concrete pads over the existing pads and that solved the problem and looks much better.

Description of Work: The concrete slab floor of our screen porch developed a crack that was slowly widening. Called Sperling, they came out promptly and gave us a competitive quote to patch the crack. They showed up on time, and did the job. However, the technician who did the work had a different repair in mind than the one that the company owner and I discussed. After the technician completed the job, I called the owner to let him know that I didn't think the job was finished. They came right back out and finished the job to my satisfaction with no increase in cost. They also did quite a bit of work, including curbs and steps down into the backyard for the previous owner of our house. That work was done correctly and has held up very well. Sperling has been working in the Lake Norman area for a long time, and I would not hesitate to recommend them or call them again.

+ -1 moreOverall, the project was a success; however, interior supports for the upstairs were somehow overlooked and not quoted in his bid. He had custom support poles made and installed. They were great but a little big - 4" diameter poles instead of 3 1/2 " diameter poles. These poles are too big for a conventional 2x4 interrior wall so, I will have to build a 2x6 wall instead. The subcontractor for the basement walls and footings (Coach's Concrete- which I also reviewed) was very difficult to work with and was more than $1,800 over his part of the estimate- ouch! lessons learned: *Check with the contractor who submits a quote or estimate about who is doing the actual work. *Never ever pay the subcontractor separately!!! Note: It was not worth pursuing the sub in small claims court. *Never assume a completely finished basement is quoted even though you asked for one and supplied drawings showing finished walls with waterproofing and french drain. Yes, I would hire Sperling again but only if he does all the work quoted. His concrete work is top quality.
Description of Work: Sperling was hired to build a foundation with a basement slab and (3) 10 foot walls for $11,691.00. Sperling subbed out the basement walls and footings to Coach's concrete. If I had known this up front I would have handled things differently. Coach's concrete will be rated separately. Sperling poured the basement slab ($3,298.00). The slab is very well done! He knows what he is doing!

Description of Work: Two areas of concrete, at front and back doors, had sunk so the water pooled at the entrances. The contractor poured new concrete over the old so that water would no longer pool at the doors and rain water hitting the porches would drain away from the house.

+ -1 moreBeautiful framed finish on the concrete and what seems to be excellent quality concrete. They used a buggy to bring the concrete from the truck to the drive so the heavy truck did not need to drive around the lawn and concrete. Brick base was a tiny bit high, but looks good and the brick layer Jeremy Bouska did a great job. Both have laborers to do the work. However, the concrete was primarily built up on top of a leveled, but not dug lower, grade. They did not want to have to haul away dirt. With dirt, rocks and a little trash thrown back to the sides, the side of the drive will probably need landscaping now. Oh well, they didn't hurt any existing roots and plants and we would need some landscaping in any case. Sperling would be ideal for a construction site where grading and later landscaping would not be a problem. You may need to call him a couple of times to arrange things.
Description of Work: Poured a circular driveway and a base for brick entryway and put me in contact with brick layer.
