+ -1 moreWe were having our kitchen design modified by having a dropped ceiling replaced. When the panels were removed a heating duct that came out of a wall and then back in to connect to a vent became visible. The painters wouldn't handle the task of "hiding" the duct in the attic and resetting the vent. Dave was suggested as someone who could do the work. We called him and he came to look at what needed to be done. After going into the attic he said that there was plenty of space to accomodate the duct work. The only problem was while he would break through our walls to put the duct in the attic he wouldn't be able to patch the holes created. After consulting with the painters they agreed to plaster the holes that would be there. After the painters removed the ceiling panels, Dave repositioned the duct and added a new vent opening. Then the painters came back in and patched up the holes. Dave was a good worker who delivered what he promised. I rated his work an "A" for the most part but if the painters had not agreed to close the holes we would have been obliged to hire another worker to do so thus we gave an him an overall rating of "B".
Description of Work: Rerouted a heating duct and vent in our kitchen when a "hung ceiling" was replaced.

+ -1 moreWe bought the HVAC tune-up and ended up buying the year-round service plan. The work was thorough. The service people and office contact person were very courteous and professional. The cost of the replacement parts for the A/C, freon, etc. seemed to be pretty expensive, considering that we had purchased a service plan that was supposed to be more economical in terms of long term system maintenance.
Description of Work: Furnace and A/C system tune-up. Also, A/C repairs. Furnace replacement. (These were at different times.)

+ -1 moreEco Mechanical did a really good job of reviewing the issues with my duct work and explaining options for remediation. They were very prompt, responsive, courteous. The job took a little longer than estimated, but this was clearly communicated and they did a good job of explaining why. Our home is older and the foundation, HVAC design, and topography made this a difficult job and they met my expectations. I would recommend them and will use them again if needed.

+ -1 morePurchased coupon through Angie's List for a furnace tune up. Scheduled service and technician was on time and very friendly. When I turned on the furnace it would not ignite. Tune up has become diagnosis (service call). This increased the price for the visit. Tech removed panels all around furnace. Control board was flashing. Tech looked up code and told me it was bad sensor. Tech then pointed out corrosion on electrical terminals and surface rust on the heat exchanger. I was then told that the furnace was eleven years old and at the end of its lifespan. Tech was very concerned that a hole might develop in one of the rust spots on the heat exchanger. It was then suggested that I replace the unit. I informed them that I could not afford a new unit. Tech then agreed to give me a quote on replacing the bad sensor. I accepted the quote and the technician left. Follow Up: I later received a recommendation for another technician. I called him for a second opinion. He came out and also noted the bad sensor. He then also saw the corrosion on the electrical terminals. He polished the terminals and furnace worked as it should. Charged me less to repair than the previous tech charged me to diagnose.
Description of Work: Technician performed a complete and thorough inspection of the unit. Control board showed error code for a bad sensor. Gave me a quote to replace the sensor.

+ -1 moreEverything went smoothly from start to finish. The technician who serviced my furnace turned out to be the owner of Eco Mechanical. (found this out as he was cleaning up and ready to leave!) He has over 20 years of experience and is very knowledgeable. He works efficiently, and his clean organized tool box shows that. He is friendly, approachable, and treats you with respect. I highly recommend Eco Mechanical.
Description of Work: Purchased a $55 furnace tune up package offered through Angie's Big Deal. Called Eco Mechanical to schedule an appointment on Wednesday and was given four hour window from 12:30 to 4:30. A technician were here around 2:30 and performed the 14-point tune up service on Friday.The lady who took my call explained that in order to perform tune up, the furnace needs to be working. If not, a technician would have to perform diagnostics instead which would cost $75. She also called the day before to remind me of the appointment. On the day of the appointment, the technician walked me through the tune up process and explained to me what he was doing at each step. He discovered that it was time to replace the capacitor. He showed me the reading on his equipment and said the lower the reading the more load it would put on the motor(?) and it would eventually break down. The new capacitor was $209. Replacing the motor(?) would have cost much more. Another thing he checked was carbon monoxide. He highly recommended that this be checked because typical plug-in type carbon monoxide detectors that most home owners have are not as accurate as they need to be. He confirmed that there was no carbon monoxide leakage, and this has given me peace of mind. He put back the doors and panels and completed the service. The total cost of this visit was $264: $55 for the tune up and $209 for the new capacitor.

They shared the results of their inspection and made a few recommendations for additional services / replacement parts but we decided to forgo the additional services at this time. I would definitely recommend and use them again.

+ -1 moreI was very happy with the service I received from Eco Mechanical. I worked with their technician, Anthony, numerous times and he was always very professional and helpful. They originally came out to diagnose my problem unit on 8/30/12. I agreed to have the unit replaced and they were able to get the parts in and install them on 9/4/12. Anthony also came back out on 8/31/12 when the older unit was still having problems and refilled it with freon for free just to get us through the hot weekend. I would definitely recommend Eco Mechanical to anyone in the Charlotte area looking for a budget-friendly service provider!
Description of Work: The upstairs Lennox A/C unit on my 2001 home has been having problems for years. It constantly leaked freon, frequently tripped its breaker, and really struggled to keep my upstairs cool during the summer months. I have had three different companies out to look at it over the past three years but I continued to choose to just "patch" the problem by adding more freon and not fix it. Eco Mechanical / Five Star have been my vendor of choice for the past 2 years and recommended replacing the outside unit and the coil in my attic with a larger 2 ton York unit/coil. I finally decided to have it done this summer.

After obtaining a number of quotes from different HVAC providers, many tried to "sell" new ductwork or entire systems when we literally only needed runs of ductwork replaced after they were removed from asbestos remediation. ECO Mechanical came in with a very reasonable proposal. They listened to what we wanted and quoted the work without any sales. After scheduling the work, I had to change the date numerous times due to its dependency on other contractors. Each time ECO was understanding, professional, and courteus. I have used many services before and do a fair amount of construction myself, and, these folks were tried and true technicians proud of their work with great attention to detail. If you are looking for someone to quickly come in, throw some pieces together, and send you a bill, or sell you things you don't need, these are not your folks. But if you are looking for one of the few companies with true crafstman thak take pride in their work, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done and do it the right way - this company is fantastic. I could literally imagine seeing them on the Holmes on Homes show. I will definitely use them for all my HVAC needs moving forward.

+ -1 moreMy air conditioner conked out while I was out of town on vacation. The house was very warm when my fiance arrived home alone late Friday evening July 6th. I was still in Tennessee when she called me to report the problem. I asked her to contact Eco Mechanical Solutions since they had performed a service check last fall. James Ritchie called my fiance back at 8:45pm within 45 minutes of her call. He made arrangements to meet her at my house at 9am Saturday morning. After finding the proper repair part, James had my air conditioner repaired by 1pm. I appreciate Eco Mechanical's prompt response on a weekend, when temperatures were extremely high, and I'm sure there were many other emergency repairs required throughout the city. I returned home Sunday afternoon from my trip, and was able to enjoy cool temperatures inside thanks to James Ritchie and Eco Mechanical Solutions.

+ -1 moreI called this company in the morning and Dave was out to our home by 3. He serviced the AC and replaced the thermostat in the house. He asked if we ever used the programmable control on our current thermostat. We did not, so he suggested a lower priced thermostat that would do the same thing. Dave is always courteous and prompt. He has serviced our units for more complex AC issues in the past with the same reliable, cost effective way. I recommend A and D without hesitation.

+ -1 moreThe young man who came out today didn't seem to have the confidence and didn't make me feel like he really knew what he was doing. I really won't be surprised if I have to call someone else tomorrow because my heat goes out again!
Description of Work: This company featured The Big Deal a few weeks ago for a heating system inspection for $69. They came out in October, the owner and a trainee. The owner raved about my unit being in such excellent condition considering it's age except the "igniter" might need to be replaced at some point. He then told me about their service plan. He seemed very knowledgeable and told me about how they are not like other companies who just take money from their customers for unnecessary work. I fell for it and purchased the service plan. The very next day my heat went out and I called Five Star, they came back out, it was my "igniter". I paid more than $200. Today, less than a month later my heat stopped working again, I called Five Star, now it's my gas valve plug connection. I'm feeling like it was a set up from the start. Not feeling good about my experience with this company, even worse I learned about them from Angie's list.

+ -1 moreTheir people were friendly and professional, including putting booties on their shoes when they came in the house. They arrived ready to work and did so immediately. They cleaned up as they went and disposed of the old furnace.
Description of Work: Five Star did a routine service/inspection on my 16 year old furnace in the attic. They were prompt and honest, showed me what they found, and made recommendations: minor repairs that 'might' get me through the winter or replace the unit now and take advantage of multiple discounts and rebates. Since the parts for the repairs were almost half of a new furnace it seemed logical to upgrade to a furnace with 95% efficiency and further reduce my gas bill. While I wasn't expecting to replace the furnace this winter I was pleased at how they were able to provide a furnace and installation the following day. Their people were on time with all the equipment needed and went right to work. I would recommend them again without reservations.
