Handyman Services--The English Handyman

Appointment was easy to schedule. Work was completed as expected. I was very happy with the experience.

Noel is a very pleasant person. He was very thorough and did a great job in a minimum amount of time. We bought one of Angie List's deals for $79.00 for 3 hours. He did all the work in exactly 3 hours. The only additional fee was for the weather molding, which he went and got. That was included in the 3 hours.

Noel came promptly and completed replacing the rotted out wood under a piece of gutter. It is serviceable but leaves a little to be desired cosmetically since it wasn't painted. He put in a piece of sheetrock to cover the space left by the skylight. I asked him to use as much insulation as necessary (I have bunches in the attic), but he didn't feel that was necessary and used a piece of styrofoam. He put the sheetrock in place and taped the edges and mudded the edges. He sanded the sheetrock and the entire living room was covered with dust which he cleaned up admirably. He sprayed some popcorn product on the ceiling and that was a huge mess, While we were waiting for everything to dry, he hung a ceiling fan (why there were left over parts is a total mystery to me). He also moved a light kit from one ceiling fan to another and in the process fried the motor on my Casablanca fan. He was supposed to return to take the fan down so I could have it repaired. He did offer to replace the fan but this is a costly deal and I offered to have it repaired (he would pay) rather than replace the fan. He never showed up or called or answered my email. I was out of town for a period of time but no one has tried to get in touch with me to repair or replace my ceiling fan, to complete the ceiling or to install the light lens on the sky tunnel Noel installed the first go around (he dropped the original lens and I had to purchase another). I gave Noel a goodly amount of oil paints and brushes in part payment for his services. He hasn't completed any additional job he started, I am very sorry to say. He's a nice person, fun to talk with, immensely talented but way over his head and I'm extremely disappointed. I hired another contractor to repair my celing and take my fan down. Sorry Noel.

Noel arrived exactly on time. Due to the high ceilings, he had to rent a very tall ladder. He did an excellent job of installing both the fan and the light fixture. He also accomplished moving the drain and installation of the drip pan for the washing machine. This was no easy task either. In addition to being very competent and reliable, Noel has a great sense of humor and it was a pleasure to spend time with him.

Because of the sheer volume of calls on the special, it took too long to actually schedule the services. We had to make a couple of calls/e-mails to get on the schedule. Once Noel arrived, the work was done well and he worked efficiently and the doors and locks were fixed. We have not had any problems since. I would definitely recommend using him, but not as part of a special.

It took a little time for him to get us on his calendar, but once he came out he did a very good job. I am happy with the work he did.

I purchased a Big Deal coupon that provided 6 hours of handyman services. Noel, the handyman, and I had a difficult time connecting in the beginning (Noel was swamped with people cashing in on the Big Deal offer and I was getting ready to have a baby). I emailed multiple times and he and I played phone tag for a few weeks. Once I had a little more availability, I worked with his helpful scheduler to define the services I needed performed and get an appointment. He arrived on time and got to work quickly. I needed exterior trim painted and while the task was not difficult, I did not have a tall enough ladder to reach the area. I provided the materials; Noel provided the tall ladder and the labor. He caulked the new trim and painted it as well as touching up some of the other trim along the roof-line. The second service I had requested was hanging a porch swing. After brainstorming for a while (and drilling a few test holes), we determined that without dismantling the porch ceiling, we were unable to determine where the joists were to hang the swing from. Since I didn't have anything else for him to do, Noel credited the unused hours from my Big Deal purchase to future work. i just need to prioritize down my to-do list for him. Noel is a down-to-earth guy. He was easy to work with and eager to make sure I was satisfied as a client. He recognizes his limitations (wouldn't install a new light/fan fixture where the wiring was not already in place) and seems like he'd be handy for projects that require some extra brawn, extra hands, or an extra tall ladder. He has an attention for detail that would serve well for aesthetic projects as well. I look forward to having him back to help out on additional projects.

Noel is knowledgeable, pleasant and a hard worker who shows up on time and completed the work better than I could have hoped for. Would definitely hire him again.

Two exterior door adjustments lasted approximately a month, towel bar was installed crooked so I took it down and had to patch the holes and now wall needs painting, toilet paper holder was installed crooked but I was able to take a hammer and tap it straight but wall around it now needs painting and mailbox not centered on post. Gate hinge works o.k.

He arrived on the agreed upon time. We showed him the walls and ceilings to be prepared. He started working on repairing the dry wall, tape and nail pops from the basement to the top floor. After about an hour or so, he informed us he was finished for the day and would return the next day to prime the areas he worked on. He returned the next morning on time and sanded the areas then primed them. This process took about 2 hours. When he was finished he vacumed the rooms, however, there was a lot of dust on the furniture and floors from sanding the walls and ceilings. Our one suggestion is that he wear footies over his shoes. Also, he should put down an adequate amount of drop cloths on the furniture and floors. He tracked paint on the carpet, area rugs and the hardwood floor. We believe this happened because he did not use enough drop cloths. His work was well worth the money spent.

Handyman Services--The English Handyman was great. We were very pleased with him. He was conscientious and neat and did things really well. He took his time and did a really good job.

Overall, the job went great. Noel is busy so you need some patience to get him scheduled. Once he is on your schedule, he will be there, on time! After the job was complete, he wanted to come back the following week to check on it and see if additional caulk was needed around the tub since our gap was so great. He came back out on a Saturday for no additional charge. Noel is an honest man doing honest work. He wants to be sure the job is done right and the customer is satisfied. We would definitely use Noel again for handyman services.

Noel came to my house to install a sun tunnel. Another contractor started the job and never finished. I'm happy that the name of his business changed because the other company had a similar name and they were absolutely untrustworthy which may have accounted for the mixup and some poor ratings prior. There wasn't enough material to install the interior part of the sun tunnel due to prior poor placement of the exterior part of the unit. We rescheduled this installation (at no additional cost to me) and Noel came to do the work on 11/9. It took the entire BIG DEAL time to complete the sun tunnel - not through any fault of Noel - but because of the mess left by the prior contractor. He went on to repair a hole in my living room ceiling which was the result of a roof window being removed (another job left incomplete by the prior contractor). He wasn't feeling very well and there was other work to do which we rescheduled at our mutual convenience. Noel is trying his hardest to clear up the prior poor ratings which I read and some seem unfair. I found him to be prompt, courteous and very accommodating. Susan does his scheduling and is an absolute DOLL! She cancelled and rebooked appointments for me (my request due to personal health issues) and is always professional and courteous. So far, I am more than satisfied with The English Handyman.

He is professional and always finishes the job. If anything comes up that I need fixed...I call Noel.

Noel did a great job. He was very pleasant and efficient. He made sure he did as much work as he possibly could in the 3 hr block of time I had purchased as an Angies special deal. I showed him several other projects I need to get done at my home. He gave me a great price for the work I still need and will definitely have him do more work for me.

I used Handyman Services through one of the advertised Angie's list deals. He was fantastic. I had a laundry list of random items from hanging fixtures to caulking to a cabinet separating from the wall. He worked fast but with care. Everything on my list was covered. I will definitely use him again.

Showed up on time. Did a wonderful job. Cleaned up after himself. Did such a good job, I hired him to do some more work.

He made appointments several times and did not keep them. We made numerous calls and they fail to answer or return calls. The caulking was not done correctly since most of it came out after allowed to dry for 48 hours. He did not complete his job and promised to come back but was a no show.

BEFORE purchasing the Big Deal from this handyman, I emailed him personally and asked him if he could help us with our nonworking light switches. His profile said that he can do light electrical work and I wanted to confirm with him that this would qualify. He said, "Yes that falls well within my range." So we purchased the big deal and arranged for him to come over. Once he arrived on August 6, I walked him to the laundry room reminding him that we had two nonworking switches and he said, "I have to admit this is probably my worst area.". WHAT? I specifically asked him before purchase if he could help us, and he said nothing about it being his least skilled area. I had nothing planned for him except the light switches, because I assumed that it would take some time and was plenty happy to spend that money on getting those switches fixed even if it only took him an hour. About 15 minutes in, he declared that he couldn't do it. So, I scrambled to find something for him to do, so that we could get our moneys worth. He replaced our old smoke detectors... that was it! Because of the fact that he couldn't do what we needed him to do (remember, I had asked prior to purchase if he could do it, and he said yes) we were left with nothing for him to do. He suggested that he leave early and come back the following week after we had some time to think about things for him to do, which I thought was a GREAT idea. So we sent him on his way. We didn't hear from him the next week, so I emailed him on August 12 asking when he would be able to come back. He said he would call me when he was in the area. He finally emailed us on August 29 offering to come back out, that he had some ideas on how to fix the light switches. I replied that I would actually like for him to come out and fix the switches and never heard from him again. That was 2 months ago. Our experience... $80 gone and the only thing we got out of it was switching out the old smoke detectors for new ones, which by the way, I could have done myself.

I felt cheated on my service. I only recieved 1.5 hours of actual handyman service time. I would recommend that he not constantly complain to his customers of being tired and overworked.

Noel has been quite busy the last few months - but he has been worth any wait! He installed three bathroom fans for us and did an excellent job. Each fan presented its own challenge in terms of fit - he made each of the instillations look and perform very well. Noel had a touch of extra time and was more than willing to do a few odds and ends which took him no time at all and were done professionally.

The door repair went fine. The repair work for the toilet took much longer than it should have and nearly was not done completely. Grout repair was started small area but there was obviously no chance to complete due to excessive time spent on new gasket.

Noel came out and did a superb job building a lattice storage area under my large screened porch despite the severe heat. Noel bought the materials and in a few hours completed the job with great care.
