Let me start by saying that we had originally set up an appointment before we read the other reviews on Angie's list then, after reading one, decided to call and cancel because it was very negative. When we called he asked why, and I was honest as to our reason. He first denied that this had actually been a customer, then he said that you can't please everyone, and that customer wanted the job done for free. My wife, and I, listened to him and he sounded very adamant about wanting a chance to prove himself. I asked if he gave estimates, and he said that he did, and they were $76. I also asked if that would be applied towards the balance if we chose for him to do the work. He did tell us no, so I knew that was not an option. He did ask what the issue was, and we explained what the washer was doing, and everything we had already tried to fix it. He said that he would pick up a drain motor in case that was the issue. He called the next morning with the timeframe for his arrival. When he arrived I showed him to the washing machine. He never even turned it on, He went right to taking the covers off. I work from home, so I went back to work. A short while later I went back to check on him. he had already partially put the machine back together. I asked how he knew the pump was definitely bad, and he said just from experience. I was disappointed that he did not even attempt to run it, and duplicate the issue. Once he had enough reassembled, he turned it on for the first time. He asked if that sounded better, and I said that it actually sounded the same. He asked my wife how much laundry detergent she normally used. When my wife attempted to explain how she measured he told her that she should be using the cup on detergent bottle to measure. When she tried to explain that she did the first time, and remembered how much she needed to use. He pretty much beat her up over how she was measuring wrong. My wife got very upset, but kept her cool. My wife, and I, have raised three children, and four grandchildren. I believe she knows how to wash clothes. By this point I just wanted him done, and out of the house. He tried to show his knowledge of detergent, etc. and I was just over his speech. He told me the total was $282. I paid it and he left. He charged me the $76 estimate fee, even though he came in with the only plan of changing the motor. Like I said, he did absolutely no troubleshooting. He also charged $91 labor for less than an hours work. He did fix the issue but I will never use him again. He does not have the people skills for working that closely with the public.

well I read everything. and all I can say is I did not need to diagnose the washer due to two reasons.,one reason is a pump goes out when I fill it with water ,it won't drain out ,so I have to em pty the tub of water which would of cost the customer more.to be honest ,there are some customer you just can't please because they have to spend money. and I'm a whipping stone.thanks for reading.

Not well... I was afraid with all his banging and shoving he was going to break my appliance.
Description of Work: Called for Refrigerator repair. The freezer was not cooling properly. While Mike was prompt, he badmouthed the whirlpool brand, took our french door model apart roughly and slammed the door open and shut and blamed the problem on our boys leaving the door open and the freezer door being warped. Told us we needed to get a new refrigerator (it is less than 3 years old). I called another repair company. Turns out there was a manufacturer recall we knew nothing about... The other repair tech pulled the refrigerator out from the wall and discovered the problem while on phone with whirlpool. The repair was done and paid for by Whirlpool. Would never ever call this Handy Mike again!

This person has written this review for the wrong company. I do not know them and have never dealt with them. We don't even do appliance repairs.

Our washing machine had started leaking underneath over the weekend. I called Mike's Appliance Service, and Mike was able to come to our house in a timely manner to make the repair. He arrived on time. He asked questions about what was happening with our washer and then began his diagnostics to determine the source of the leak. He was efficient, polite, and professional throughout. Ultimately, it turned out that the source of the water leak was from the door not closing properly. He repaired the door with parts we already had. We had been having trouble with that door for a while but never had the confidence to take the washer apart to replace the parts. After replacing those parts, Mike ran tests to ensure that the problem was fully resolved...and it was. I appreciate that Mike did not try to make unnecessary repairs. He has earned our trust, and we will always use Mike's Appliance Service for our appliance repairs.

A small leak had developed under our 7 year old Whirlpool dishwasher which was seeping up through our wood floor. We phoned our plumber who suggested we contact an appliance repair shop first. Mike's Appliance Service had a good sized ad in the Yellow Pages stating that he serviced most makes and models of appliances. Mike answered our call personally and promised to call early the next day to schedule an service call. He called as promised, scheduled a visit and arrived on time. The problem was a loose compression ring on the water supply line which was repaired quickly. When trying to locate the site of the leak I had moved the dishwasher out from its slot and inadvertently damaged the fill valve assembly. Mike ordered the part and replaced this a day later. Mike seemed very knowledgeable about this repair and appliance repair in general. I would contact him for future repairs and feel confident that he would be able to fix other appliances in our house. The initial service call cost was reasonable and while the total cost which included extra labor and part cost was more than I expected, the promptness and quality of Mike's service was worth the expense. To be honest, I did not get estimates nor have a good feel for what the going price would be for this type of repair.
