Our system stopped working at noon on Sat., 12-14-13. We got a temporary fix about 9 p.m., but was told someone would come out the following week for a more thorough check up. A Service Rep came out on Thursday, 12-19-13 and determined our system was not safe to operate so he shut it down and said new parts would be ordered. We called 3 times on Friday trying to find out if parts had been ordered, but had to leave a message each time. Finally, got a phone call at 4:30 p.m. saying he had been in a meeting all day. He said new parts were not available, but they could sell us a new system and give us credit for our remaining warranty. This was a big surprise as we did not want to buy a new system so we said no, we wanted to think it over, and would call them back on Monday. Of course, we had no heat. Since our system was still under warranty, my husband, a retired engineer, made some phone calls to the manufacturer of our system on Monday a.m. He was told that new parts could be ordered. He notified Weather Master, which made the man mad that had told us no parts were available. After several phone calls with Weather Master on Monday & Tuesday, the parts were finally ordered Tuesday afternoon, 12-24, Christmas Eve. The parts came in at noon on Friday, 12-27 & were installed that afternoon, although another part had to be ordered that day. We were without central heat from December 19 until December 27, 2013 at 5 p.m. although my husband went to Lowe's & purchased 3 small space heaters, but we did not leave them on when we went to bed at night for safety reasons so the house got mighty cold. The result of getting our system fixed is that most of the inside of the system is now new and the service rep did an outstanding job. We did not have to pay anything for the repair since everything was still under warranty, but we did pay $600.00 to have 2 Blue Tube UV Sanitizers installed, which has greatly reduced the dust in the house. I do not like the restrictive questions above on this review. It is hard to give an overall rating when the service rep did such a great job, but the office person did just the opposite. I would give the service rep that did the actual repair work an outstanding grade and would use him again. In fact, we have requested that he handle all future inspections on our unit as long as it is under warranty. The above ratings were really based more on the work of the service rep as he was great and said our problem should have been determined 2 years ago. We have used Weather Master for many years, probably more than 20 years as I cannot remember when we actually started with them. They used to be great, but in recent years, they appear to be more pressured toward selling than service. At the present time, we will use them as long as our system is under warranty, but will certainly check at least 3 other options when we need to buy another system from someone.

I have used these guys before although never very impressed. This time person who came out barely spent any time inspecting the unit in the attic and told me that it was probably about to go and I would need a whole new unit. After I told him that wasn't happening he suggested that there is a Freon leak and the coils are rusty so he could put in some Freon and that might get me through the rest of the summer. I reluctantly let him do this which I now regret as the charge for the Freon was outrageous. Overall the tech was rude and condescending and I believe was trying to take advantage of the situation to make more money. Once day later I discovered water coming through my ceiling. The AC unit in the attic had clogged and the drip pan had poor caulking resulting in a leak. I called another company and they came right out and fixed the issue, they did not report that the unit was "about to go" or any of this. Most likely the issue the entire time was a clogged pipe. Unit ran fine after that.
Description of Work: Issue with upstairs A/C not blowing cold air. They added Freon to the unit.

I called upon reciept of the postcard and scheduled my apt and they were scheduled to come out. They called at 11:30 to say the guy might not make it out but he would try . I rushed home from work leaving early and thus losing out on the pay I would have gotten had I finished out the day to find that the plumber is not able to make it an emergency came up. I rescheduled for the following thursday at the same time. This time I called before I left work and they had made no contact to reach me as they did prior and the clerk on the other end said that he was running late and he would be to my house in an hour. I left with plenty of time to be home and no plumber, I called the mr.Plumber again and the plumber called to say it wasnt an emergency I am only the emergency person the other plumber will call you and no phone call was received that night or the following day . The clerk did call and said I understand no plumber came to your house last night if you would like to reschedule you can do that but I dont think I would either. so unless you are desperate or an emergency is the message I am taking away from this dont use them even though they contacted me they dont want my business or prob yours either.
Description of Work: last year they came out and installed all the new pipe and shut off valves that were required to bring my hot water heater up to code and installed a new tank. Weathermaster/Mr.Plumber sent out a reminder card for service to the unit.

we purchased a new home where WM installed the HVAC system and have had problems with controlling the humidity in our home. At the builder's request , WM has come on 4 previous occasions and declared that nothing is wrong with the system- we have been taking humidity measurements and they completely discarded our information. Did not even bother to look at the units, just very defensive and argumentative - refusing to offer any plan to resolve the issue , except to blame the . builder do not use this company - their customer service is non existent and unfortunately, we are stuck trying to figure out the solution at our own expense.

Scheduled service call on internet late Sunday and Tech responded late on Monday. Quickly determined that the problem was a bad blower motor on the 4 year old system that they installed previously. I had purchased a 10 year parts warranty but had to pay labor for the replacement. The Tech showed me the price of the motor -$1400 but indicated it would be covered under the parts warranty and they would call the next morning with a labor cost. The next morning I was called to tell me that the labor charge would be around $600! The motor was in stock so I agreed to have the work completed. Their Tech showed up on schedule and replaced the blower motor in under 2 hours. While he was on site he performed a system check on the upstairs unit and determined that the gas valve would not operate and told me that the valve needed replacement. Price for the new gas valve - $640. Tech leaves to get the part and upon replacement finds that the valve was not the issue. Turns out the control board was faulty and needed replacement. The price of the circuit board - $1120. He needed to go buy this board and return to install it. With the system open and parts visible I searched online for both the gas valve and control board to see if this pricing was even close. I found the valve online for $64 and the circuit board priced between $76 and $215. The average price was around $165. The circuit board looked very easy to replace so when the Tech returned I told him to replace the old valve and not the circuit board as the price difference was astonishing. He then called his company to report in and describe the situation. I get a call from the company wanting to know why I was refusing the service after the Tech got the part on my approval. I explained the huge price discrepancy and they asked what I thought would be a fair price? I said $200 and they said $250 was as low as they could go. The Tech was a good guy and he was in a difficult position so I finally agreed to let him finish at that cost. The strategy at Weather Master seems to be that all parts are marked up 10X the normal cost to convince you that repairing a system is not worth the money and a new system makes more sense. Quite a scam!
Description of Work: Replaced blower motor on 4 year old gas pack. Found faulty circuit board on 2nd system during inspection.

Met with AC Heating Mgr. Mr. H. to discuss the lack of cooling/heating my living room with with approx. 13 ft. high ceiling. It seems as though that the lack of vents could be part of the problem. I am unable to bring the temp below 78 for the bulk of the day light hours and into the night. Upstairs temp never goes below 85 with A/C running 24 x 7. A temp. sensor was previously installed in the upstairs "return", but that did not work, so I had it removed. No other suggestions/alternatives seems to be available. I have 2 skylights in living area, and I am planning to have them coated to lessen the suns rays.

See above for "brief summary". Service issues were NEVER corrected per WM. Had to utilize a reliable, professional service provider to correct their MANY costly mistakes.
Description of Work: Awful service, lack of professionalism and complete lack of follow-up regarding all issues including a defective part from Lennox. (After purchasing a new HVAC unit). I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone for ANY type of service. Hopefully, Lennox pays attention to WM reviews, because Lennox is a "top of the line product". Unfortunately they are poorly represented by Weather Master and need to re-evaluate their business affiliation.

Standard spring inspection, everything working fine prior to the service call. Suspicious discovery of major problem - one unit suddenly has issues in middle of inspection. Almost $400 later... this is becoming the usual story for Weather Master. Serviceman arrived after the "window" of time, was unkempt, and spent over 45 minutes (!) loudly jabbering with friends on his cell phone while leaning against the AC unit just outside the window. I don't think he knew we could hear or see him. He then comes to the front door and states that it was a tough job but he got it done - and gives the pitch to sell different (and expensive) add-on products. We cannot prove it but our perception is that the problem was created / dreamed up by the serviceman. It raises an uncomfortable question: are created problems like this tacitly supported by management? I want to be clear - we have no proof, just a perception. We have used Weather Master for many years, I think over 15. Over the last 5+ years, we have seen a slow but steady decline in the quality of service and quality of staff combined with an increasing use of the service call for sales pitches for the purchase and installation of expensive gadgets and add-ons, this to the point where one now has to sign a statement acknowledging that the offer was made and turned down. We have fallen for a few of these. Used to be a good company with on-time service and a devotion to quality work with no BS about buying product. This last experience was the latest in a string of similar ones and was the last experience we intend to have with the company. I'm not stating that it's entirely gone bad - some people probably still have good experiences - but for us, this is one time too many. We're done. Buyer beware: a good paint job on the truck and slick advertising can be a concealing veneer.

The cooling coil on our old air conditioner broke 3 years ago and Weathermaster got us to replace it for about $5k, reasoning that it was too old to a new cooling coil for. When A/C stopped working, we thought they might be in the best position to understand and fix the problem. They set a 10-2 window for the appointment and never contacted us afterward. After waiting at home until 2, we called only to find out that it would be another 2 hours. You'd think they would remember to at least call at 4 and give us a new time estimate. Being late is sometimes unavoidable. Leaving a pregnant woman home all day in a hot house all day without any notification is something else. If you're going to charge $100 just to show up, at least try to show up or let us know if you can't. It seems as if this company only stays in business by slapping their phone number on any heating and air appliances they can. Given the recent run of reviews on this site, it's hard to imagine any other way they'd still be in business with their lack of professionalism and above-average service charge. On a semi-related note, they were also my first call to fix or replace a water heater over a year ago. They immediately tried to sell me a tankless water heater for $3.7k. When I got another opinion, they carefully explained the costs for getting an up-to-code normal water heater installed and mentioned the tankless only when I asked. They noted that the model Weathermaster wanted to install was much more expensive and powerful than necessary and installed the correct-sized model for over a thousand less.
Description of Work: Nothing. Absolute nothing. Called them Thursday scheduled them for the earliest possible slot at 10-2 Friday. Called them at 2 Friday and they said it'd be another 2 hours. Called them at 4 and cancelled.

Weather Master installed the original equipment. A fan apparentlly failed, but they were unable to confirm its total failure and just put a new one in. It appeared that a repair could have been done rather than a total replacement. They encouraged me to replace the entire unit for $6000. It was only about 7 years old. We have had Weather Master install 5 HVAC units for us at various homes in Raleigh over the last 27 years. They are not the company they used to be.

The plumber that came out didn't even want to see what the problem was, all he wanted to do was replace the water heater( 7 years old). Ask him if he would lite the pilot light, (turn setting to pilot, press down and hole red button for 15 sec while pressing lighting button) said it would cost an extra 130 bucks to this. The company minimum repair charge( so the above step is a repair) They were going the sale me a "State" brand 40 gal hot water heater( because what Lowes sell is not as good. With my preferred cust discount because I had a hvac system installed by them was 1,440( the company had sent me a 25$ card to use for future repairs, but since I was already getting a discount the plumber said I couldn't use it. Went to Lowes in Knightdale. An installer came out (Johnson Plumbing) and installing same size unit for a cost of 875(with an addition 5 year warranty from Lowes. I did get a 5% discount for using my Lowes card so it could have been a little higher. 1440 vs 875

Your service sucked. I will never recommend your company plus now I have joined Angie's List and will be writing a full review of the terrible service I received from Weather Masters. I'm still without heat due to the fact your tech said it would take too long to find the problem. He would not listen to my wife explanation of the smell in the return vent. All he wanted was to replace my unit. It's no more than a fan control board or blower. Additionally the technician refused to honor the ten percent discount for using the Internet to request service. A service that was only provided once I called to inquire about the appointment. The secretary said she had not received an Internet request. she was probably on Facebook all morning and never checked. Call Air Experts if you need HVAC work accomplished.

Overall, hmm I would have to say they came in with the ulterior motive of getting their Christmas' paid for or to get a bonus before the end of the year. I hate to say that but it just seems that way. My husband is a very equipped handyman, he by day is a civil engineer so fixing things has never been a problem it was finding the time to do the fixing that was the problem. So I relied on Weather Master. When our heat went out in December 2012 I dreaded contacting Weather Master. Though I had a maintenance agreement lately I felt inept when they would come out and tell me this or that because used to I would go and make them show me what was wrong but I am physically unable and have to rely on what they tell me. Thankfully, My husband happened to be home when they came for this service call. After the tech told us it would be a $1,000 to replace the When the Tech asked if we wanted to meet with the salesman to see about replacing the unit I let him do it, he knows technical stuff. The salesman came and gave us estimates on replacing the entire unit $7000-$8100. He never once said you can get by with just replacing the heating unit and leave the original a/c unit as is, did not even give us that option. My husband has since found that it could be that the unit isnt getting power because of the board and is going to start off replacing that because it is the cheapest at $250. Then if he has to he will replace the pressure switch and the Inducer Motor for the cost of the parts which is around $350 (for both) so even with replacing 3 parts it will still be a little more than 1/2 of the price quoted by Weather Master. I feel so ashamed of how many years I let this go on. But I will not be their fool no longer but better yet I will make others BEWARE of their tactics.
Description of Work: I want to say that Weather Master has been servicing my units for 9 years. This was an inventory home we bought from Centex brand new first owners back in 2003. At first, I was satisfied with their maintenance agreement but I suddenly started to notice a change, each tech that would come out and do my spring and fall maintenance would try to sell me other services. I did buy a Carbon Monoxide Unit in 2010 and a UV light filter system on both units to kill mold and other allergens in spring of 2012. On this call a tech came out under my maintenance agreement to check our heating system a Lenox a/c forced gas air unit because our heat was not working, here is what happened: December 2012 After a 15-20 minute check of our unit he said that the Inducer motor $615 and the pressure switch $413 needed to be replaced. I remember the pressure switch being replaced before went back got my receipts and showed him that in March of 2012 the pressure switch had been replaced and the cost was $372... He stumbled a bit and said yeah the price has gone up a bit since 9 months ago.. So then he goes on to say instead of sinking $1,000 in this unit that may only have 1 or 2 years left in it we might want to consider getting a new unit. So we paid him $79 and then he had a salesman come out and give us an estimate. The salesman came out and gave us 2 quotes on 2 complete replacement units both lennox $7500 and $8100 that is with a discount from PSNC. Plus he said we had to replace the Carbon dioxide monitor they installed the upstairs one for $140 on Feb of 2010 it was only 3 years old, he said it wasnt up to code any more and the second one had to be installed because I have one spare bedroom downstairs so there had to be one on that floor. 1.The salesman never offered a price on just replacing the heating part of our unit and leaving the a/c part alone. 2.The tech never checked to see about the board and to see if it was getting power to the two parts that he wanted to replace, why, maybe because that part only cost $250. The clue should have been why has the pressure switch gone bad in less than a year (8 months) of it being replaced? He just passed us on to the salesman that showed up that same day.

The technician was professional and had a good sense of humor (a must when wading through six inches of water in a dark crawlspace). He fixed everything up for me and even gave me all the information for having the city adjust my water bill for the month. I will definitely use this service again.
Description of Work: I came back from vacation to discover six inches of water in my crawlspace and water spraying from my hot water heater. I wasn't able to turn the valve to shut off the supply line, so I had to call an emergency plumbing service at 8:00 on a Sunday night. The Weather Master plumbing service was the first that I called and they were at my house within a half hour. It turned out that the thermal expansion tank had ruptured, and the supply line valve was broken, which was why I couldn't turn it. The technician replaced the tank and the supply line valve in very short order.

They overcharge for the systems they try to sell. Their prices for routine maintenance are fair.
Description of Work: This was the second visit this year. We have used this company since moving into our home for the annual heating and air conditioning checks at the beginning of each season. They have become more interested in selling their products than in merely servicing the current equipment. Every time they are in my home, they try to sell me something else. I just want the service I requested. One o technician actually told me they receive a bonus for every referral they get from us routine customers.

While on a service call, the technician quoted $350 to replace my two outside faucets. When the credit card was swiped, he charged double ($700.00). I agree I should have caught this error before signing the charge but I did not. I spoke to the manager and the manager agreed to refund my $350.00. After several broken promises and 6 weeks of waiting, the manager delivered a check to my home for the $350.00. I did find them courteous, they seemed like they wanted to help but for some reason they would not follow through with their promises. In the end, the manager provided the credit (personally). It was a good gesture but too little too late.
Description of Work: Service call to adjust the pressure on the main valve to my home. While at my home the technician said my outside faucets needed replacement. I agreed to have them replaced.

We didn't have much complaints on the air conditioner but when they serviced our heat last fall they disconnected our water heater and turned off our gas and didn't turn it back on. When we called them they said if we didn't wait all weekend then there would be a service call to come back and turn it back on. It was not our fault, it was not warranty, it was their fault but we couldn't get them to come back out without paying them a couple hundred dollars. It was a service charge for weekend service charge for something they messed up. We ended up going without hot water for the week end because I wasn't paying $200.00 for something they broke. We had a contract with them is why we let them come back and service the air conditioner. We will not be re-using them. I give them d rating because I will give them the benefit of the doubt. We weren't totally unhappy with the air conditioning but we were most unhappy with the heating repair. They didn't jerk us around on the air conditioning this past Spring. I think the price is probably average I don't think we got a really good deal or a really bad deal. Once they are here they try to sell you everything under the sun. I don't appreciate that. They try to upgrade things that really don't need to be upgraded. I am sure they are trained to do that and how the system works but it is not something I appreciate. They were non responsive when they did the heating. I will never use them again.
Description of Work: I used Weather Master Heating & Air Conditioning and we are not really happy with them. We had them service out heating and air conditioning. They did the heater last fall and the air conditioning a couple of months ago.

My brand new HVAC used to go out 4-6 times per year (no heat, no cooling) and each time I called Weathermaster they would spend 5 minutes getting it up and running and 30 minutes trying to sell me upgrades and service contracts. After having no heat during the holidays for the third time in a row, I asked for a root cause analysis why my heat kept going out but instead got an irritated technician who could not even explain why the system had gone out in the first place. That was it. I now have an independent contractor working on it. Don't waste your money with these guys. They are out to make a buck and not to make your home heat or cool reliably. Most of these guys seem to work on commission on selling more services that you don't need. You would do much better with a smaller company that has the owner coming out to do the work himself.
Description of Work: Gas heat furnace.
