the unit froze over night and by the time they arrived in the morning we had turned the unit off to defrost, they discovered that the valve covers where the leak was had a small plastice peice inside the cover that came from the factory they remosed the peices and the indicater was showing no leaks we hope that this would the last call

We came home from vacation late Sunday afteroon to find that the A/C wasn't working and it was over 90 degrees in our house. I called Air Central of the Carolina's at about 5pm. They answered right away and said that they could be here within the next few hours. Wesley called back within the hour to tell us that he was on his way. By 6:45pm, he had come to the house, checked out the system, replaced the capacitor and had it up and running again. He didn't charge any extra for coming out on a Sunday evening - they are open 24/7. Other companies that I called said that they couldn't guarantee that they could come out tonight at all and that if they did the price would have been double their usual rates for after hours service. We were so impressed by Air Central that we asked for information and are going to sign up for their regular Spring/ Fall service.
Description of Work: Came out on a Sunday evening, diagnosed the problem and replaced the capacitor within 2 hours of our initial phone call.

Our 18 year old gas pack stopped blowing cold air on Friday night over the Labor Day weekend. I called ACOTC at 6:00 pm and Wesley was there by 8:15pm. We were hoping to just add Freon to get us through the rest of the summer; we had already added freon earlier this year. Wesley charged the unit but immediately determined the feeder lines were leaking and could no longer be repaired. He did not charge me for the service call that night and told me he would be back the next morning with quotes on a new unit. We asked Wesley to quote replacing the duct work under the house since it was 18 years old also. He arrived at the stated time with all the information for a new unit and duct work and explained the time frame it would take to replace the duct work under the house and install the new unit. We had done some research on a new unit and his pricing was competitive with other estimates we had received. We are relieved to have cool air again and were very impressed with the work done and the willingness to get everything completed in a timely manner. We will recommend this company and use them for our yearly maintenance.

In the past we observed AC repairman adding freon during diagnosis. But the Air Central repairman added 5 lbs of freon without providing an estimate, then charged us $386.06. Fearing a mechanics lein I paid by check. The next day I called them to complain that I only ordered a diagnosis not a repair because we were trying to determine if we should repair or replace our 16 year old lower AC unit. The owner and son admitted that their office got our call "mixed up" and the repairman was told by their office to repair not diagnose our AC. They said they would return the check or credit it to a new system if they got the job to replace the system. We tried to work with them regarding a new system. But, other Angie's list contractors had lower bids and they objectively stated the leak was too large and the system needed to be replaced, Within 5 weeks the freon ran out and we had to obtain more estimates to replace the AC. I informed Air Central they were not the lowest bidder and we had selected another contractor. I asked for a refund and the owner now refuses to return the check. We feel we deserve our money back as Air Central never gave us a free estimate nor authorization from us to put in that much freon and Air Central admitted the miscommunication between the office and the repairman regarding the work request to provide an estimate not repair. 9/15/2010 Response: Initially, the other company was providing an estimate to repair the AC. Dwayne did not ask me if he was to repair or provide a repair estimate and I thought he was diagnosing the problem by adding freon like other companies have done in the past. I am not trying to trick them into giving me freon for free as the response implies. I wanted to know if I should repair or replace the AC. Later on, the owner of the company , Vance,admitted there was a "miscommunication" between the office and the tech and they told him to repair the AC. When Wesley and Vance came to give a replacement estimate, Vance also said he would hold the check and refund it if they didn't get the replacement job. If I appeared happy ,it was because I was not going to have to waste $386.06 on freon and then have to replace the system on top of the freon cost, which only lasted 5 weeks not 3 months. I was on travel during most of the 5 weeks and couldn't obtain replacement estimates. When the AC quit working in June I began to obtain more estimates. Just because I had paid for the freon I did not feel it is right to get trapped into going with Air Central for a replacement. Air Central did leave messages but the first one was garbled and the second one did not say they were going to cash the check that they were holding. I didn't return the call because I was obtaining estimates and I didn't know who I was going to select. In the contractor's response the second and third to the last sentences are not completely what I said. Because we also have an AC sytem upstairs we were willing to wait for the other estimates and make the best decision for us even though June and July were very hot. There is no confusion on my part as Wesley and Vance said at least five times that they would refund the check because their Angie's List rating is important to them, even if they didn't get the replacement job. Now, they refuse to refund our money. 9/21/2010 Response: Clearly, we called Air Central for a free repair estimate only as we were getting another repair estimate from another company while Dwayne waited on 5/10/2010 as noted in Air Central's response. We never made arrangements for Air Central to repair. Again, Vance said there was a miscommunication in his office to Dwayne telling him to repair not estimate. We had no idea that 5 pounds of freon would be put into our system especially after we were told by previous repairman that the leak was large and to add freon was a waste. We were calling other Angie's list repair companies to confirm the diagnosis and estimate repairs. We assumed that perhaps a small amount freon would be added for diagnostics, however pumping 5 pounds of freon into our AC without our consent seems unfair.

HE SCHEDULED A NO COOLING CALL WITH AIR CENTRAL OF THE CAROLINAS OFFICE. WHEN OUR SERVICE TECH, DWAYNE, ARRIVED HE HAD TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING COMPANY (HVAC COMPANY) TO LEAVE. DWAYNE QUESTIONED HIM TO CONFIRM THE NATURE OF THIS CALL. HE WAS OUR ONLY CONTACT AND HE TOLD DWAYNE TO FIX IT. HE STAYED AT DWAYNE'S SIDE THE ENTIRE 1 1/2 HOURS, NEVER ONCE QUESTIONING WHAT HE WAS DOING. HE HAD JUST HAD ANOTHER HVAC COMPANY THERE GIVING HIM AN ESTIMATE, WHY DID HE NOT STOP DWAYNE FROM REPAIRING THE UNIT? THE PREVIOUS HVAC COMPANY DID NOT REPAIR OR ADD FREON. AIR CENTRAL OF THE CAROLINAS GAVE NOT 1 FREE ESTIMATE BUT 2, ONE IN MAY AND ANOTHER IN AUGUST. THEY WERE TOLD THAT IF WE DID THE REPLACEMENT, THEN AND ONLY THEN WOULD THEY GET A REFUND. (THIS IS PRETTY MUCH A STANDARD POLICY FOR HVAC COMPANIES) WE HELD THEIR CHECK FOR A MONTH. WE PLACED NUMEROUS CALLS TO THEM AND NONE WERE EVER RETURNED. WE TEMPORALLY REPAIRED THE OUTDOOR UNIT, 3 HOT MONTHS LATER ALL THE FREON HAD LEAKED OUT AND WE WERE BACK FOR OUR SECOND FREE ESTIMATE. IT TOOK HIM 2 DAYS TO BECOME UNHAPPY ABOUT THE CALL AND 3 MONTHS TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM. NO HVAC COMPANY GIVES FREE FREON ON AN ESTIMATE. WE DO NOT INTEND TO REFUND THE $386.06. WE FEEL THIS MONEY WAS JUSTIFIED IN THE LABOR AND MATERIAL WE PROVIDED. IT APPEARS THAT THE MISCOMMUNICATION WAS NOT BETWEEN AIR CENTRAL OF THE CAROLINAS AND THE MEMBERS BUT BETWEEN THE MEMBERS THEMSELVES. DEBORAH BREECE-OWNER THE ONLY CONTACT WE HAVE HAD WITH MRS. We used this company before and we were very pleased with them. This time they worked on our downstairs unit. The problem was that it was extremely low on freon. System was re-chard and coils were washed. This problem occurred because unit has a small leak. Once again we were serviced by Dwayne who works for his family owned business. Very honest, reliable, knowledgeable, professional and had the best price of any A/C & heating company that we ever used. I can't say enough about this company. Keep up the good work!!!!!! I have recommended this company to two of our friends who have since used them.

Our unit had a blown capacitor that they replaced, also had our freon checked and our coils washed. Wonderful service by Dwayne who works for his family owned business. Less than a month ago my York air conditioner stopped working. A technician from another company came out, unclogged the drain, advised me not to put any more money into repairs ( a six year old unit) and said that I'd be better off replacing the unit in the near future. On Saturday evening, I returned home after several days out of town to find that the unit was again not working and an indoor temperature of 89 degrees. Waiting until Sunday morning, I searched Angie's List for a new company. Air Central Of the Carolinas was rated highly and they definately deserved the rating. The father and son team made room in their busy Sunday schedule to drive an hour to my home, quickly diagnose my air conditioner problem and promptly correct the issues with unit. They were very professional and definately fair in their pricing. I would recommend them and use ttheir services again with any a/c issues.

Our AC system received some damage due to a lightning strike. Air Central came out within 24 hours of our call, checked the system, and had the parts on the truck we needed to fix the problem. Great customer service on the phone as well as from the technician who called to let us know that he was going to be delayed due to a traffic accident by about 10 minutes.

My AC stopped working on a Thursday night. I called the company on Friday morning. It was a very hot day, and the 4-5 companies I called said they were very busy. Air Central said that they could not promise to come out that day, but would try to work me in. They called back a while later, and we agreed on an afternoon appointment. Everything went smoothly. The technician showed me what needed to be done and answered my questions. Great job!

ACOTC did an outstanding job. They kept to their estimate and I feel I received superior, top quality service without paying too much. BRAVO Air Central of the Carolina's! BTW, I mentioned I found them on Angies List and Wesley gave me a free estimate. And I was not charged traveling charges.
Description of Work: Our AC went out and it was a very old unit so we knew it needed replaced. I had researched replacing the unit within the year so I knew more than the average consumer. Also, being aware of the cost and importance of replacing an HVAC, we were very selective with whom we called for estimates. I researched on Angie's List and picked 10 company's that rated well in all the areas that were important to us. I created a spreadsheet with pertinent questions to ask on the phone, documented the result of the call, documented the timeline of call back and or actual appointment. After completing the calls, I knew by the first interaction/ impression, it was down to 3 companies. Not only was ACOTC, the first to call me back, Wesley was at my house by 6pm that evening. He looked at the equipment (we already knew there was no point in repairing a unit from 1978), made suggestions on repair and cost, then gave us some options for replacement. I did have a couple other estimates, but the tech's were not as sharp as Wesley, he answered questions quickly, without hesitation and was very well informed. The decision was made to go with Wesley and we were not disappointed. He and his team worked over 10 hours to make sure we wouldn't go another day without AC. His estimate was exactly what we paid, the quality of work was wonderful and I highly recommend them.

Wesley and his crew were punctual, polite, easy to work with, etc. Wesley also met with my contractor and they talked over some details together to ensure a smooth project. Before starting, Wesley asked me several questions to get an understanding of where to run the ductwork based on how I wanted my basement to look. He explained all aspects of his work to me. He also zoned our 3rd floor unit because the heat and a/c was completely unbalanced. One side of the house would be much colder or warmer than the other. The A/C is running much more efficiently now. I think Air Central did a great job and I would hire them again! I would much rather hire a family-owned business than a large company.
Description of Work: We upgraded our A/C and Heat unit and Wesley installed it and zoned it between our new basement and 1st floor. Wesley also zoned our 3rd floor unit between the master bedroom/guest room and our children's bedrooms on opposite sides of the house.

The date and time were sent in their books for 4/27 @ 5:30 pm. We called the office at 6:30 pm, stated that we had an appointment at 5:30 pm. Secretary said, "He must have gotten held up". The Serviceman (Vance) called at 6:45 pm after their dispatch called him and stated that he got tied up with another customer and forgot about us. They didn't offer to rectify the problem. I canceled the appointment. Punctuality and Professionalism - F, Responsiveness - D, because they finally called. Overall I gave them a D - to be nice.
Description of Work: We set up an appointment for a quote for a new HVAC system. They had a great rating on Angie's List with no complaints.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion. We are a small business and sometimes we get held up. We did call and apologize and tried to reschedule but customer would not have it. He said "better luck next time" and did not want to reschedule. We understand the customers time is very valuable and hate this happened. We would have given the customer a discount to compensate for our tardiness and their time that we wasted.

Outstanding service from beginning to end. Almost 90 degrees out and came within 3 hours of first phone call, diagnosed problem immediately, had to come back with parts and found and solved another problem while they were here. Professional and courteous throughout. Very pleased.

Vance and his crew did a great job. They were punctual, professional, and pleasant to work with. They showed up when they said, protected our house from the dirt of the job, and cleaned up everything afterwards. They caught all the details and did everything they said they would do right down to the smallest items. They spent alot of time with us trying to figure out the best solutions to our problems before even giving us a quote or getting the job. The job went smoothly with no problems or surprises, and the installation they did is neat, clean, and professional. They also succeeded in getting rid of our smelly heat problem, which had frustrated us for the past 3 years. I would definitely use Vance again and would recommend him.
Description of Work: We had a leaky indoor a/c coil on our central air conditioning, and a simple replacement was complicated by the recent mandated phase-out of R22-refrigerant equipment. In addition our 9-year-old furnace had zone-control problems and the ducting work from the previous installation was a hack job of patches, tape, and glue. Finally we had a vexing problem of a persistent smell to our heat in one of the zones that we had been unable to solve. Many people that we talked to about figuring out the smell looked at us like we were nuts, but Vance and his crew took all of our concerns seriously and worked to address all of them. They were very astute at quoting a job that was appropriately sized to our needs. They quoted a new furnace with a new a/c coil, new zone control, and they replaced the plenums and ducting that were suspect in our smell problem. I felt that they quoted us the things that were really needed without inflating the job with unnecessary bells and whistles.

Our furnace stopped working on a Friday night, On Saturday we called Air Central for service. (note: Vance told us we didn't have to wait until Saturday as we could have called Friday night). We were told someone would be there within the hour. We were pleasantly surprised that someone (Vance the owner) could come out so soon especially since it was the weekend. Upon arrival they diagnosed the problem immediately.. They were courteous, friendly, efficient and professional. They replaced the motor and did some minor maintenance (no charge). Because we are Anglie List members we got a discount on the part AND they did not charge us extra for coming out on a Saturday. We will call Air Central for all our heating and air conditioning service going forward. We had a great experience with Vamce and Air Central of the Carolinas!!!!

My furnace stopped blowing air completely just when it got cold in October.. I called Air Central midday Saturday and Wesley quickly agreed to come out and look at my furnace. He was very honest about his rates and quickly diagnosed a bad blower/draft motor. He recommended replacing it under warranty, since the unit was just 3 years old. Then he went the extra mile and drove to another city several times to coax a pretty incompetent Heat/AC dealer into get a new part for me quickly. I highly recommend Air Central of the Carolinas.
Description of Work: Air Central came to my home diagnosed a bad draft motor in my 3 year old gas furnace. Replaced the motor under warranty and just charged me labor.

I called that morning, and they came out early evening. I appreciated that they were family-owned and operated. Team was father & son. They fixed the problem and advised us on what we could expect in the future. We paid $85/hr. + $45/lb for freon plus tax. I assume there is a minimum of 1 hour, which is understandable.

I called sometime around noon. My message was relayed to Wesley Breece. He and his helper arrived around 5pm. They looked at my air conditioning unit and discovered a wire had been disconnected. They reconnected it after feeding it through some new sheathing and checked all the readings. They charged me for the service call only, not the materials. They were friendly and professional. Except for a little unanticipated delay getting to me, everything went very smoothly and quickly, so much so that I waited to file this report until I was sure we'd been in cool air for several days.
Description of Work: Identified and fixed problem with our air conditioner's lack of cooling.

The experience went very well. Air Central came out the day I called. Two other companies I called prior to Air Central told me it would be at least 5 days until they could come out to my house. It turned out that the issues was minor and was able to be addressed very quickly. I was impressed with Air Central's reponsiveness and punctionality. I plan to use them as my HVAC provider going forward.
