Response from Peak Energy Inc
We have attempted to contact this customer to find out more details but have not been able to speak with them yet. We aim to make sure they are completely satisfied with our work. At the start of this project I gave the customer my cell phone number and asked them to please call me if they ever have any questions or concerns regarding our work. Peak Energy provided duct sealing for two systems, installed a nice custom built cover over the attic pull down stairs, installed insulated radiant barrier on an exposd wall in the attic and installed blown insulation. We actually installed quite a bit more for no extra charge. I was personally told several times by the customer that they were very happy with our work. When we were finished the customer inspected our work and said they were very pleased with it. We just started using PayPal's credit card swipe on our phones and I accepted payment from this customer before we left. I immediately sent him a payment receipt via PayPal and he told me right then he received it. Apparently he did not receive it and I am assuming this is what caused him to be upset. Later, I responded to his email and emailed him the receipt and filled out the Duke Energy Progress rebate form. I wish he had of called me directly on my cell phone and I could have handled this minor problem promptly for him. I beleive we provided exceptional service and excellent quality of work for a bargain of a price. We voluntarily got this customer a $380 rebate that they did not even know about. I will update my response after speaking with the customer.

His crew then returned as scheduled and started the project. They were very thorough with all the details. All the debris was removed at the end of each visit. I was impressed with the final outcome, a clean, encapsulated, and fully sealed, ie. caulked around the perimeter, filled all openings in the subfloor and added rigid insulation to the foundation walls. The wireless monitor indicates a constant temp of 63-64* - even on the cold and windy 10* nights. humidity around 50%. Nathan is great at answering any question.

Nathan was responsive and flexible to our schedule and changes. They came out for a pre-assessment. They didn't try to sell us anything extra or add surcharges. His crew was clean, punctual and polite. They ensured to cover/guard the carpet and windows while using their equipment, since the blown-in insulation had to come from the outside through second story and into attic. We didn't have an attic cover/door for the small opening into the attic; Nathan built one for us on the spot to maximize the benefits of the new insulation. For my next townhouse, first thing I will do is call Peak to do an attic assessment. I encourage everyone to go up into your attic and make sure you got at least 14 inches high of blown-insulation, if not call Peak Energy.

The initial evaluation meeting went well and the estimator was professional and thorough. I had requested bids for additional work (besides the pre paid Big Deal) and the contractor was to submit an estimate. After approx 10 days I called the contractor and emailed him, and finally sent him a message via Angie's List, and he responded to that. message I scheduled just the Big Deal work, which was blowing in 500 sf of insulation, and this work was done as promised.

Extremely professional, knowledgeable, personable , excellent value and patient are all attributes I'll use to describe the service and work performed by peak energy. The owner and his crew were in constant communication and highly professional and knowledgeable. The work ahead of them around removal of the existing insulation and complete cleanup, duct sealing of both hvac units, air sealing and re-insulation was a large complex task on a nearly 100yr old home! I was most impressed with the attention to detail throughout the project and ingenuity used to build a custom insulated box for the whole house fan in the attic as well as the walkup attic door. The quote and details around all work to be performed were professional, accurate and extremely fair. All requirements were met to take advantage of the progress energy rebates and the owner walked me through the process and paperwork required. The difference in the home was immediately noticeable and I look forward to a comfortable living space with energy savings to boot. If you have any home energy needs, do not hesitate when contacting Peak Energy as your provider. I will certainly be using them again on my upcoming crawl space insulation and sealing projects.
Description of Work: I contacted Peak Energy around a progress energy insulation and duct sealing rebate program as they appeared on the approved contractor list. I combined the blown insulation deal on Angies list with additional insulation and air sealing the attic to meet the progress energy rebate program requirements.

Nathan came to check the job requirements. I had an Aglie's deal for 500 square feet. The job required more and he provided me with a very fair estimate for the additional work. They came a few days later as promised at the time promised and did an excellent job. Nathan's staff were very professional and he came toward the end of the job to check everything and help them finish. This is a company that I would not only use again but would recommend to others.

All throughout the process, Peak Energy and Nathan Rider were very easy to work with and professional. When they arrived to do the work, they took care to be neat. I was impressed at how careful they were not to leave screeches or track in dirt. They did the work quickly, but efficiently. Mr. Rider also was very helpful in answering my questions, providing potential solutions, but not being pushy or trying to "sell" me more work. Over all, working with Peak was as good of an experience as I could want, and I would gladly use them or recommend them.

Mr. Rider called after I had purchased the 99$ Big Deal. We then set up an appt., but he was unable to keep it, so he phoned & set it up for later that night. I never expected him to work so late, but was very appreciative that he followed through on his commitment. After checking my attic, he said that there was no insulation in the area so the next day (a Sat.), his workers came over to blow the insulation. It took less than an hour & the men were very poiite. The older man even cleaned up the insulation that has fallen into my hallway. Because I have to close my bathroom door closed to keep the room warm, Mr. Rider came over today w/his thermal camera to check if there was a problem. The room registered around 72, so it seems that I need an exceptionally warm room. After that. he went outside & took pictures. The contractors of the building put a large vent directly over my bath. (A very poor choice on their part.) Mr. Rider then returned to my attic & partially covered the vent.e also cleaned up my hallway. We parted on excellent terms & I was told to call if there was anything else he could do. He also wrote a letter to explain the problems to my HOA. I would not hesitate to use his services again or to recommend him to others. He is very personable & willing to help in any way he cab.

I had asked this provider to give me an estimate. I had to call him several times to get him to come and look at my attic space for insulation purposes. He finally showed up and seemed very uninterested in providing service. He said he would send me an estimate, but it never came. I even called and left him a voice mail. When he arrived this time and asked if he had already been out here, I realized that he had and who he was. He then gave me a story about how his cell phone had died and he never got my voice mail and had no idea why I hadn't gotten his estimate. This is just plain bad business practice and seems like nothing but a very lame excuse. He gave me an estimate about $2,000 above another provider who came out for a different Angie's List deal but provides similar services. I do not want to work with this provider as it is my perception that he either doesn't want the work or wants to take advantage of me.

Response from Peak Energy Inc
I am very sorry this customer feels like she had a bad experience with Peak Energy. We try very hard to satisfy every customer and potential customer and we obviously came up short. However, I believe this review was very inaccurate and somewhat dishonest. I do remember coming to her home earlier this year because I remember her asking me to do her a big favor and set up my extension ladder and check to see if a window high up in her foyer was closed. I remember gladly doing this for her and not charging her a penny. I am sorry she was not able to get in touch with me when she tried calling my cell phone. I certainly do not think it was a lame excuse that the digitizer and lcd on my new Galaxy S4 cell phone broke. Verizon would not help me, Samsung had over a one month lead time on replacement and CPR at Briar Creek in Raleigh fixed it after about a one week wait. I am sure I missed a lot of calls and messages that Verizon could not recover. On November 25th this customer purchased one of our Big Deals for attic insulation. On the very same day we promptly sent her a message and confirmed we could come to her house on her requested date of December 2nd. The next day she confirmed and we showed up on December 2nd as scheduled. We took our measurements and left the customer a written quote just over $2000 for the items she requested. She told me she would have to look it over and call me later and after 11 days I still have not heard back from her. There is no way another company would do the work we quoted for $2000 less, like she claims. Our work quality and materials we use are among the best and our prices are very competitive in this market. I definitely wanted this customers business or I would not have drove 45 mins to meet her at her house and spent over 30 mins assessing her two attics. I am not quite sure what this customers goals are but it definitely does not appear to be improving her homes energy efficiency.

A cancellation had left a hole in their schedule that day that allowed me to get a great deal on the work. They were very clean, courteous ,and professional. Workers removed shoes before entering the house, and covered all areas near the attic access that could've been affected by the work. They worked fast but thorough. The owner, Nathan, arrived near the end of the job and inspected the work, and helped with clean up. I couldn't have been more pleased with everything, and highly recommend Nathan and Peak Energy.

Scheduling was a little "dynamic," but that was to my favor and the service was completed within 48hrs of the initial attic assessment. Nathan was knowledgeable and clear in his recommendations, with practicality rather than profit margin seeming to be a motivating factor. The install went very quickly (less than 2hrs) and without incident.
Description of Work: Installed baffles at eave vents and brought attic insulation up to R-38 from ~R-15 with blown fiberglass in our 1,000 sq. ft. 1950s home (price includes Angie's List Big Deal: $100 for $500 worth of installed insulation).

Nathan came to my home to evaluate and add some insulation that was needed but he also found some items that needed addressing of which I was previously unawares. I appreciated his engineering expertise and when he took out his lighted extended camera to view several areas that were inaccessible to the naked eye I knew he was a professional. As a business owner it was obvious he takes his job and reputation seriously. I will heartily recommend Peak Energy to my neighbors! A job well done by Nathan and his team of insulation experts.
Description of Work: Nathan exceeded my expectations by inspecting (and finding) some areas that were poorly insulated in my home. His quote was reasonable and his expertise at evaluating my home's needs was obvious...and he was not intimidated by the many questions that I asked.

Nathan and his staff are great - I can't say enough about how professional they are. Always showed up when they said they would, and were very responsive to my calls/emails when I had questions. They also did a thorough job and the quality of their work really showed. Nathan--who is the company president-- did alot of the work himself, even things like taking some old paint cans to the hazardous waste disposal site for me. He also installed extensions to the downspouts to move water away from the house for my elderly neighbor --for just the cost of the materials. Nathan also suggested alternatives to his original proposal to reduce the cost when I asked. And he was quick to come back after a few months when we couldn't get the moisture levels low enough in the crawlspace, probably due to the fact that the space is below the grade for the soil around my house. Now that it's getting colder, I see the real benefits of enclosing my crawlspace - the floor inside are much warmer and I'm sure my heating bills will be lower. Plus, I now have a new clean, dry space to store items that I don't need to keep in my house. The guy who services my heat pump recently told me "boy, it's really nice in your crawlspace!" and I completely agree with him. I highly recommend Peak Energy for this kind of work, and for insulation work too (I've written a separate review for that).
Description of Work: Nathan and his staff cleaned out my crawlspace, removed insulation and some mold on joists, and installed a vapor barrier on the floor and walls of the space. Also repaired the crawlspace door, installed a vent to move some of the air from my heat pump into the space, and installed humidity & moisture sensors. That work was done in May 2013, and then Nathan came back in November to install a dehumidifier in the crawlspace because the moisture levels were still a bit too high.

The work was completed six months ago and the house is drier, the musty smell is gone, and the utility bills have been noticeably reduced. The crawlspace is now so bright, dry, and clean, we have no concerns now about accessing it and storing important items there. The humidity inside the home is much more stable, and the over 3000 square feet of floors show no signs of movement. We are very please with the work done by Peak Energy and Nathan Rider.
Description of Work: When we bought the home the solid wood floors were badly cupped and had to be removed, and the house smelled musty. Peak Energy totally sealed the crawlspace and insulated the walls, sealing off the source of moisture that was damaging the home.

Nathan and his crew were very prompt and responsive to any concerns and questions. They began by removing the old insulation from beneath our floors within our crawl space and sealed any openings between the crawl space and the first story of our home. They then installed a 12 mil bright white reinforced liner along the crawl floor and sealed it to the piers and foundation walls. After sealing the linear to the piers and foundation walls the walls were then covered with spray foam to insulate the walls and totally seal the crawl space. Two small dampers were also installed to the air handler to condition the crawl space. The crawl space doors (3) were also insulated and sealed. During the installation process Nathan discovered that our water heater which was located within the crawl space was leaking. He was very easy to work with and waited until the water heater was relocated to the garage before completing the crawl space. Several service men including the plumper and pest control technician have commented on how well the crawl space was completed. I would recommend Nathan's services to anyone.

I had been having ongoing moisture problems in my crawlspace, particularly in the summer months, where I was getting a ton of condensation dripping from my duct work. This was causing potential issues with my termite control contract, and of course, the termite control company wanted to correct the situation themselves, at an exorbitant price, so it was time to get some other opinions... A few google searches related to crawlspace moisture, as well as the reviews here on Angie's List, make it pretty clear that Peak Energy's owner, Nathan Rider, is an extremely well-respected expert in his field. We spoke on the phone, and he was very accommodating in scheduling a time that would work for me, for him to come out and inspect the crawlspace. He showed up on time, calling a few minutes in advance, and spent some time assessing the problem before discussing my options with me. One thing that stood out was that he came up with a solution that would solve my particular issue, without trying to sell me additional things that I wouldn't necessarily need. And the price was very fair compared to the other 2 estimates I had received. He then emailed me a detailed proposal, which I of course agreed to, and he was back a week later to complete the work. When I saw the finished work, I was super pleased with what a thorough and neat job they did!! The moisture level is already way down, and a few follow up questions that I had were promptly answered. To me, any time you can find someone that's trustworthy, an expert in his field, does meticulous work, and charges a fair price on top of it all, it's a no-brainer on whether to select him. I would definitely recommend Peak Energy to anyone having crawlspace moisture issues!
Description of Work: Solved my crawlspace moisture problem by installing a new vapor barrier and dehumidifier. Included was a remote monitor so that I can track the moisture levels.

After receiving the appraisal we have not heard anything back. When Nathan came to give the appraisal the first question out of his mouth was, "How much money do you want to spend?" I felt like me nor my home mattered to him. The loss of air we have going out of our none insulted attic makes my children's rooms extremely hot or cold depending on the season. After explaining all of this to him he said, "Well it feels cool enough in your home." I am glad to know there are other companies out there. Going two weeks with no regard to my appraisal and knowing I had to waste my time is very disappointing. Even if the company is busy they could at maintain their communication. Otherwise how are you able to run a business.
