We had serious issues with our second (half) story being consistently warmer than our first story, bringing with it very high electric bills. Peak Energy performed an energy audit that identified the issue and then sealed our attic (in the middle of a summer heat wave, no less) in 2 days. The team was professional and punctual and the discrepancy in our temperatures between the two floors went from >5 degrees to <2 degrees.

We are very pleased with the result. The smell is gone; the humidity and temperature is very well controlled - less than 50% humidity and a constant temperature around 68 degrees which makes our living space much more comfortable in winter and summer. Nathan is very knowledgeable, professional, and customer oriented. He answered all of our questions, and provided support during the installation process, arriving with his crew, monitoring progress, and inspecting the final product. His crew was very professional, friendly, arrived promptly each day, answered our questions, and maintained a clean worksite.
Description of Work: Our crawl space smelled like ammonia (cat/animal urine), and was very damp and musty. Nathan and his team 1) removed old insulation; 2) treated joists and sub-flooring with anti-mold disinfectant; sealed all penetrations in subfloor; installed R-10 foam-board on foundation walls and R-19 batts in band joists. To address the odor, Nathan installed a radon type exhaust fan with Nathan also installed 70 pint dehumidifier and installed a new crawlspace drain.

Great! I had a sealed crawl space at my previous residence. This was a far better job. Materials were top-notch and installation very well done. Knowledge of code compliance was very helpful as other quotes did not mention. Nathan was a pleasure to work with.

Excellent. Nathan Rider went above and beyond. My wife is sensitive to toxins so Nathan had to use nontoxic products and special procedures to reduce effects on my wife. He helped come up with ideas to reduce toxins. Also, came at night on multiple occasions to install fans and check on the project making sure all was going smoothly. My wife came out fine. Nathan is a very sharp guy. We highly recommend Peak Energy.
Description of Work: Mold remediation and enclosing crawl space. Removed old insulation. Treated the mold with a nontoxic cleaner. Insulated the walls of crawlspace. Leveled out the ground in crawlspace and covered with heavy plastic. Installed a fan and dehumidifier. Clean space is dry, mold free and clean as a whistle.

The audit went even better than we expected. Nathan is very knowledgeable, professional and personable. He was clear in his explanations and his answers to our questions. And he summarized with a prioritized list of practical steps that we can take to improve our energy efficiency. On top of all that, he found that our thermostat was misconfigured and he fixed it -- the savings to us will exceed the cost of his visit after 2-3 cold-weather months.

This is a great company with hard working employees. Nathan is knowledgeable, explains the process, and he is great to work with. We highly recommend his company. In this area we feel it is a requirement to take care of the crawl space.
Description of Work: Our crawl space was awful. It was so humid it seemed like it was raining there was so much water dripping. We now have a wonderful clean crawl space. Several trades have been in the crawl space since the work and they are amazed. Nathan and his company encapsulated the crawl space and installed a dehumidifier. Cost around $7000. Well worth it.

Great! Nathan Rider came over, and we both went under the house. He showed me how the drain could be cleaned out with the brush. He installed a new filter, emptied the pan, and poured in a little bleach. It's been running perfectly and keeping the humidity level where it should be. I've got a reminder to have it checked again in six months or so. I have to give Peak Energy an A+.
Description of Work: The dehumidifier in the crawlspace, which had been installed by Peak Energy, had stopped working after the huge rain storm associated with hurricane Matthew and consequently the humidity level had risen. There was water in the pan/basin that the dehumidifier sits upon.

Nathan and his company Peak are super. He worked with me on exactly what I needed in crawlspace, plan to provide services, reasonable pricing (even though more than I wanted to invest in the project) and delivered big time. With the new insulation underneath our house went from a fairly efficient house to one of the most efficient houses as per power company review. I strongly recommend Nathan and Peak. Beautiful work, above and beyond!!

Nathan Rider and his crew did a great job. They put some seriously long, hard hours in our unbearably hot attic. Everything went smoothly, from the initial estimate to the end of the job. They were on time and did everything they said they would - and more. For instance, Nathan spent a lot of time looking at our air conditioning system and taking measurements to see if the blower speed should be lowered to help with humidity. He didn't charge me anything for that extra work. Also, the bathtub insulation and sealing turned out to be much more difficult than planned (very difficult to get into the un-insulated space behind the tub), but they stuck with their original cost estimate. Overall, I was very impressed as to the thoroughness and quality of the work. I definitely recommend Nathan and his company.
Description of Work: Air sealing and insulation of attic, room over garage, bathroom. This included air sealing of top frame plates and penetrations in attic floor, sealing HVAC grill and return leaks, air sealing knee walls in the finished room over the garage, blowing insulation under the floor (and then air sealing the floor) in the room over the garage, and insulating and air sealing behind our master bathtub that is against an exterior wall and has always been cold in the winter. About a day and a half of work.

Nathan's attention to detail was very good. I used the three quote method and had two others come out to the house and give estimates for the work being done and Nathan was able to provide a more detailed quote for the work that actually needed to be done as well as come in about 10% cheaper than the other two guys. Nathan's crew that performed the work was efficient and friendly. They worked quickly and even did a few extra things that weren't in the quote like remove an old water heater that was in the attic and carry some stored items downstairs. I have Ecobee3 smart thermostats that have the ability to log inside and outside temperatures as well as how long the A/C is running. Following the work that Nathan did to the house it has been hotter than ever and the A/C is running less than half as much despite the higher outside temps. This has resulted in about a 40% increase in cooling efficiency and I fully expect it to be even better in the winter. Nathan also even did a few extra things that weren't in the quote in order to fully qualify me for the $500 rebate from the electric company.

Nathan is excellent. The work he did significantly reduced the energy consumption of our home. The humidity levels are now monitored and controlled to acceptable levels. He even identified a problem with our geothermal heat pump and researched a possible solution. When he could not fix it, he referred us to a local geothermal HVAC contractor and the system is now working properly. Nathan goes above and beyond in the work that he preforms. He is extremely knowledgeable and talented. We will definitely use his services again and recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: We built our home with a geothermal system for heating and cooling to realize energy savings on our 100% electric home. After several years of living in the home we experienced much higher energy bills than what we expected with a geothermal system. We were also having trouble controlling humidity levels in both the sealed crawlspace and inside the home. Nathan Rider did the following: He installed a home energy monitoring system which monitors all the circuits in our home in order to identify areas where excessive electricity was being used. He immediately identified the hot water system recirculating pump and the heaters in the master bath as large consumers of electricity. Nathan replumbed the water heater recirculating pump and installed a wireless remote that allow us to turn on the recirculating pump as needed for instant hot water. 2) There was an existing fresh air intake ducted into the HVAC return. Nathan identified that it was not installed properly and was not operating. He removed the existing system and installed an energy recovery ventilator to provide ventilation to the home thru the existing HVAC duct system and remove stale air from the home. The ERV transfers heat and humidity between the fresh air and exhausted air for improved energy efficiency. 3) Nathan installed an Aprilaire Steam Humidifier to deliver humidity in the form of steam to the home through the existing HVAC system. This significantly improved the indoor comfort during the dry winters months. 4) He installed a Santa Fe Advance 2 dehumidifier in the sealed crawl space to help maintain a lower and more steady humidity level in the crawl space year round. 5) Based on his recommendations, we had him upgrade our thermostats and install a wireless outdoor temperature and humidity sensor. This allows for better operation and control of HVAC equipment and indoor air quality products. 6) As Nathan was working with us on these issues, he noticed the hot water generator on the geothermal heat pump was not turned on and as a result we were not getting the virtually free hot water that the system generates into our storage water tank. Nathan tested the system per the manufacturers instructions but could not get it to work properly. He referred us to a local geothermal HVAC contractor to further diagnose the problem.

I can't say enough good things about my experience of working with Nathan Rider of Peak Energy. He examined the crawlspace and clearly explained the problems that needed to be addressed. He provided photos and outlined the steps that he felt should be taken. Once I signed a contract for the work, he let me know when his crew would be arriving and what work they would be doing. The work took several days, and the workers cleaned up and removed any mess. Nathan also let me know when to expect an electrician and when the dehumidifier would be installed, a multiple step process. The final step was inspections by Wake county. I am so glad that my crawlspace issues have been dealt with by such a professional and thoughtful person as Nathan. I would be delighted to recommend Peak Energy to anyone.
