The initial problem was, according to Nathan, that Angie's List put out the coupon when they shouldn't have - during the hot summer months when insulation is already in high demand! They were backed up heavily because of this which caused us some frustration. But, we stuck with it because I believed this insulation was really better than the traditional. So, after many appointment changes, mostly on our part, we finally had them come in and do it. I need to say that this takes two days because of the work involved. So, in the summer, you will have to put up with no AC for one day in the rooms below the attic. Other than that, things went smoothly and we are happy.
Description of Work: They install foam insulation, which does a better job than traditional insulation and is permanent. First, they remove the existing ductwork and take out the old fiberglass insulation, or whatever it is you have. Then they spray on the foam directly on the attic roof in this case. They Also spray paint the foam for safety reasons that I can't seem to remember now. We now no longer have to worry about going into the attic because it is much cooler due to the foam. No more itchy insulation to worry about getting on you. Long story short, we experienced the difference the next day! Our master bedroom, which was never as comfortable as the other rooms, was now as comfortable as the rest! Nathan, who I believe is the owner, goes out of his way to make sure you are happy. He is such a nice guy to deal with. You will not go wrong with this type of insulation or with Nathan.

Wanted to get a sealed crawlspace since the insulation I had was ineffective (had open-web truss joists which are impossible to insulate as they leave air gaps everywhere -- considered spray foam, but was expensive, messy, made it difficult to access the floor in the future, plus had some environmental concerns). Contacted Nathan at Peak Energy to discuss options and what they do. Nathan showed an excellent knowledge about properly sealing crawlspaces (both he and I have engineering backgrounds, and he was able to answer all my detailed questions and concerns). His work crew was prompt and efficient, and they appeared to be skilled and performed careful, quality work. We ran ran into a couple of snags with venting the furnace (and also with acquiring permits in my area), but Nathan was extremely accessible, responsive, persistent, and creative in effectively resolving each problem (and minimizing any additional costs). I was impressed by the attention to detail, such as Nathan later spray foaming around each vent on the main floor to ensure no air gaps (even though they had already sealed all of them from underneath the floor). Nathan's also been very good on any followup questions or concerns, quickly responding to texts or emails and coming back to look at things himself. Overall, I've been very satisfied with the work performed and would strongly recommend Nathan and his company.

Nathan came out fir a quote. I talked through our problem and asked lots of questions based on what other contractors told us. I trusted Nathan's opinion. The quote he offered was higher than others but I believe still in a reasonable range. We ultimately decided to go somewhere else but I think we would have also been happy with this contractor as well.

Our home was built in 1995 and over the years we've had several HVAC folks in to advise us how to maintain the temperature in our bonus room over the garage. Each one advised us to add another unit, or to get a "zoned" system. When I called Peak Energy and Nathan came over, he knew right away what the problem was and what it would take to fix it. He had the tools to detect where the cold air was coming from, and provided an estimate quickly. Nathan was professional & knowledgeable, and in addition to that, you can tell he likes what he does! A rare trait these days! Prior to having the insulation added, the bonus room was cold in the winter & hot in the summer. Now, the temperature is the same as the rest of the second floor. We are very pleased with his work, and highly recommend Peak Energy.

Nathan Rider was a real pleasure to work with. I asked him to come out for an energy assessment, which he did for free. He spent about an hour going through my house and making recommendations. Many of his recommendations were for services he didn't offer and was not trying to sell. There was no pressure, and it was a very valuable experience. I actually took his advice on a couple other HVAC jobs in efforts to improve the air quality in our house. He helped us figure out how to triage the various jobs so we decided to do the most important parts of his overall recommendation. I got two other quotes, which unprompted had recommended almost the exact same set of recommendations, and Peak Energy was in the middle. I had a good feeling about Nathan, and additionally he worked with me on a couple minor things that lead to an adjustment of the quote. He was accessible via email and text, which in today's world tells you that you are dealing with savvy and organized person. He and his crew were punctual and worked very hard all day without taking a break. Throughout the work, Nathan continued to point out his findings to me, some of which was critical such as finding some mold inside some of my duct work which I later had fixed as well as finding some huge leaks in my HVAC systems. It ended up being more than a one-day job for them, and so he came back and finished up. I assume the job may have even been more difficult, but he honored his quote. His crew was clean, and they did not smoke which I appreciated. I was very happy with the quality of the work. Several things ended up significantly better than I had anticipated. I can already tell that it made a difference. I would recommend Peak Energy whole-heartedly to anyone who is looking for quality home energy improvements.

I was looking for someone to encapsulate our crawl space and found some very reviews for Peak Energy. I called and Nathan (very friendly person) came out and explained how he could do the encapsulation as well as the benefits we would gain. He then did the work within my budget and it looked great! He also recommended we have a contractor get rid of the mold problem we had and that was done also. It turned out there was more mold then we had realized. It looks great now. He also did the encapsulation so that termite/bug inspectors could easily check for any problems. He explained why we needed a sump pump to meet Durham City code and installed that. It was a good thing because a couple days later (before the sump pump was hooked up), there was a heavy rain and we found several inches of water in the space. Nathan literally came out the night and spent several hours hooking up the sump pump to get out the water out. Then he cleaned up the space. He did that even though it turned out that his work had not caused the problem. He also recommended a company (Energeyes) because we needed a ditch dug next to our outside foundation wall down to the sump pump. It turned out that another heavy rain came just after Energeyes had dug the trench and everything worked very well. We have since improved on the gutter system which caused both problems. Just a couple days ago, Nathan literally built a door above our attic ladder which now seals and insulates our crawl space to over a 20 R value. In addition, he took off each vent that goes to the attic and sealed all the holes and put the vents back up properly. He explained that each time the heating or air conditioning is on that air (not good) from the attic is sucked into the house and heat/ A/C is less efficient. His price was very reasonable. RESULTS: Duke Energy sends out a graph every so often that shows how our energy efficient our house is by month. In Jan 2014, the energy usage in our house was just below "Average". In March 2014 (the encapsulation was done in late March), it was just below an "Efficient Home". Nathan said we would notice the largest difference in the summer. Just yesterday my wife said "why is it so cool downstairs". I said that the A/C was not coming on much so it must be the crawl space temperature which is hovering between 66 and 68 on the temperature/humidity gage that Nathan gave us. Based on that gage, we noted that the humidity was above 70% which can allow mold to grow. Nathan asked if we had the A/C on and I said it didn't need to come on because it was cool. He said that we needed a de-humidifier to offset the A/C not coming on. (He put A/C vents into the crawl space to provide dry air to keep the humidity down.) We went to Lowe's and bought one for under $250 which is working just fine. Nathan could have sold us one for $1,500 but he didn't think it was necessary. Nathan also gave us some good advice on saving energy (he has a degree in home construction engineering from NC State) and recommended a Sloan Electric who turned out to be excellent. He also recommended a contractor (Energeyes) to fix a drainage problem and they did excellent work too. All Nathan did was excellent and professional and I would go back to him in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Peak Energy encapsulated our crawl space, installed a sump pump, installed a small inexpensive de-humidifier, built and installed an insulated attic space door above the non-insulated door and plugged up the holes around the HVAC vents going into the attic.

The entire project went very, very well. Estimator & Project Mgr., Nathan Rider was a real pleasure to work with. He was very responsive, professional & a very good supject expert. Nathan's inspection report was very complete and easily understood. His quotation was broken down like I had asked and the price was very fair. When the crew arrived to do the work they were very prompt. They were very polite and extremely hard workers. They kept the site clean and left no debris. The workmanship of the work performed exceeded our expectations. Peak Energy is a company we would recommend.

I recently purchased an older town home. It was very uncomfortable this winter, and my electric bills were sky high. Nate came and did a complete inspection and made several recommendations. Nate, the owner, was very professional and punctual. I was amazed the amount of energy my home was loosing. As Nate performed the infra-red energy test, he walked around with me and discussed the cause/sources of each loss, as well as, solutions to solve the problems. Some problems had simple solutions that I could repair myself. After testing each room, Nate provided me with a break down of estimates with options to repair all issues down to pinpointing only the repairs I wanted completed. There was never any pressure to purchase any additional work. I would highly recommend his service. The cost I quoted included $199 for Angie's list special for the home energy test and 250 sf of attic installation.

From an Angie's List advertised Deal, we purchased 500 sq ft of blown-in fiberglass insulation for $99, with additional square footage at $1 per square foot. Before purchasing the deal, we checked Nathan Rider's reviews at Peak Energy, and were pleased that his work was so well reviewed by others. And they were absolutely right! Nathan is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of energy conservation--from insulation to heat loss to radiant barriers and crawl space air quality and dehumidification. He came to the house and did a close inspection of our walk-in attic, as well as measuring for and bidding on a possibly basement vapor barrier later this year. We were very grateful that Nathan was flexible in his schedule. We bought the advertised deal in December, but with some other projects and a family illness, it was several months before we could actually schedule the insulation work. I emailed Nathan, and quickly got a reply that let us know: "Just let me know when you're ready!" That kind of quick and flexible response means a lot to customers, and it was clear that Nathan knows that a good customer relationship is at least as important as the quality of the work done--if not more so. While much of our attic is already floored and the existing insulation covered, there are many areas where the existing insulation could usefully be supplemented and brought to R-38 or better with blown fiberglass. Nathan and his crew arrived exactly on schedule and did all work quickly, neatly, and quietly. My wife actually continued working in her bonus-room office while Nathan and his crew worked behind her and in the next room. The crew cleaned up every stray speck of insulation, and Nathan did a walk-through with me before leaving to make sure I was satisfied with the work performed and with every aspect of the work. The installation was terrific and the final price reasonable, especially considering the expected savings in both our heat and air conditioning bills and general comfort in the living areas of the house. Both my wife and I were impressed with the friendliness and skill of Nathan and his crew, and would welcome them to do work at our home anytime. We recommend him without reservation.

Do hire him. I know my utility bills will be lower and my comfort level higher after following his findings and implementing his suggestions.
Description of Work: Nathan was quite thorough and knowledgeable. He had an array of equipment that allowed for accurate measurement of air leaks. He was concerned about keeping my home as clean as it was when he arrived. He removed his shoes and used another pair when he viewed the crawl space. He recommended some simple fixes such as clear safety socket covers to block the cold air coming through the unused ones. He also found major leaks. I learned that my bathroom exhaust fans, while making noise, were not working as they were not connected correctly. I took notes on his findings and he then told me the top ten that should be solved first. He can also provide the service to fix the problems he found. He was quite professional and personable...a wonderful combination.

We spend a lot of money on phone services that track every incoming and outgoing call from our business to help us better serve our customers. After being notified of this review I was very concerned and decided to look into this deeper. According to our records we received one call and one voicemail from this customer. The voicemail was recorded and all the customers information was entered into our CRM log. I contacted the customer first thing on March 20th and he told me someone from our office had already contacted him and scheduled an appointment. He also told me he called us three times and left only one voicemail. I am not sure what the expectations were that lead to such a negative review but this customer will be getting a FREE atttic insulation assessment and estimate from us.

Nathan responded to my telephone call and setup an appointment to come by an perform the requested tests and independent evaluations. He arrived on time and was very professional and knowledgeable of spray foam insulation installation and sealing attics and crawl spaces. He performed the blower door tests to check for air leaks for cold air coming in. Numerous areas were identified. He also checked for depth of insulation for R value and a lot of other things. I truly valued his opinion and his knowledge of this type of work and would not hesitate to call him when I wanted something done right the first time. His evaluation saved me a lot of money and time.

Nathan showed up on time and did a full analysis of the home. He set up the vacuum fan and went through the whole house looking for cold air leaks. He documented them with the sensor and a photograph. He crawled into all three of my attics and checked the insulation. He also when through the entire crawl space checking the insulation. He spent approximately 3 hours gathering data. Here's the problem. He completed all this work on a Friday in mid-January and told me he would have the completed report and an invoice by the next Friday. As of this date I still do not have the report or an invoice. I have left a voicemail that was not returned and an email that he did answer. In his email on the 21st of February he said he would have the report for me by the weekend. Still no report. I find the situation strange that Nathan would put so much effort into gathering the data but then will not complete the report. I just sent him an email to break ties and inform him I will have another company come in and start over. I was hoping to implement recommendations long ago so the value of any report provided now is negligible. UPDATE: I just received an email from Nathan. He said he emailed the report on the 22nd of Feb. The attachment was 127mb so there's no way I could have received it. Seems like he hasn't done this previously. He said he could mail it. We'll see how it goes. Final update: It's been several more weeks and still nothing in the mail or email from Nathan. I guess this ends our business relationship.
Description of Work: I contacted Peak Energy based on their Anige's List recommendation. This is my first winter in this house and I'm burning through propane at a rate that seems excessive. I also need some insulation fixed but wanted a professional opinion so I don't waste money in the wrong areas. Nathan recommended an energy audit of the home to make sure we target the correct areas. The cost of the energy audit was supposed to be $375.

It turned out very good. They did a great job. So far the dehumidifier is working really well. They lived up to all their commitments. They came out when they said they were going to come out and they did what they said they were going to do. They worked in a professional manner and they got the job site clean. The final product was very professional looking. They gave a lot of good recommendations on how to do things that we talked about outside of the work that he did. Overall I was really satisfied. I thought their service was fairly priced.

I had an uninsulated garage. It is attached to the house, so in the summer time the heat would work its way into the house and in wintertime the cold. I also worked in there at times and I was very uncomfortable all of the time. I purchased the angies list deal. I was called to verify my selected days. They showed up set up and were finished in less than one hour. Very quick and professional. They cleaned up after themselves. I was surprised on how easy it went. I plan on insulating the walls of my garage and will use peak energy inc for the job. I am 110% satisfied with the job.
