Nathan delivered the total program just as he had proposed and promised. He is very professional in his approach and his work, but also very personalble.... a very nice person. Always made me feel that my job was important and needed to be handled properly. At the final "settleing up", Nathan remembered that I had found him using Angie's List and volunteered a substantial discount. More importantly, he urged me to take the time to write a review "because that is what will make the whole system work. You need to take the time to write the review or Angie's List simply will not work." I sense attention to quality and the importance of personal relationships at several levels.
Description of Work: Assessed my "raining crawl" problem. Explained the problem and recommended solutions. All very clearly and logically. answered all my questions, often anticipating them and then leading me to a better overall understanding. Explained how the work was to be done and why. I soon felt that I wanted him to do the work versus others I had contacted. He also knew that the work would need a city inspection (others did not) and offered to arrange for and corrodinate the inspection. I was urged to consider purchase of a dehumidifier which he would install. He oftered more than one alternative. He was continuously involved in the project from start to finish, making repeated visits to my home. I felt that my project was important. Whenever there was a "glich" it was acknolwedged and explained to my satisfication. Overall Nathan Rider and Peak Energy was very professional and extrememly knowledgeable about the topics of crawl space moisture, dehumidifiers and general home care concerns. I recommend Peak Energy and Nathan Rider

The original, dirty, smelly, damp/wet insulation bats and vapor barrier were removed, crawl space was cleaned of debris, stones, etc., raked smooth; these were all hauled away. A reinforced ground barrier with glued and taped seams was installed and run up foundation walls and piers for at least 12 inches. The foundation vents were sealed, crawl space access doors were insulated and weather stripping was installed to augment encapsulation. Then 2-3 inches average of closed-cell foam insulation was applied to outer foundation walls and sealed vents. A 3-4 inch termite inspection strip was left as per Code. Thereafter, the dehumidifier and duct work to improve air circulation within the sealed crawl space were installed. I intend to maintain the RH at 55 - 60%. The job went almost exactly as described in proposal and contract with any minor departures going my way. I plan to use Peak Energy again for an energy audit and cost effective insulation enhancements to attic insulation.
Description of Work: Peak Energy ( Nathan Rider, President ) installed a sealed crawl space complete with a tough, reinforced polyethylene ground barrier, foundation drain with backflow valve, and a quiet 60-pint per day dehumidifier (Santa Fe) with drained to the outside of the crawl space. I set the adjustable system at 55% RH and 76F (late summer) in the crawl space. Mr. Rider, an NCSU engineer, is very knowledgeable, innovative and tailored the solutions to the requirements of my crawl space reality rather than a one-size-fits-all approach by other companies that had many add-on solutions for issues that I did not have: with the resulting higher costs. The results: 1) corrected hardwood floor buckling; 2) smaller inside temperature swings; 3) decreased/eliminated squeaky floors; 4) smaller inside RH swings; 5) no more condensation and standing water on the ground and vapor barrier in the crawl space; 6)improved inside air feel; 6) protection against musty odors; 7) preservation of structural integrity of floor joists and subflooring.

He was on time, took his shoes off, and provided an excellent cost estimate of what it would take to complete the project with his company. The only reason we didn't select his company was price. We found another company on Angie's List that provided the same thing as Nathan was offering but at a lower price. I'd definitely recommend others at least contacting him to see what he could offer for your property.
Description of Work: Nathan provided me a free quote for sealing my crawlspace. He was honest, informative, and provide me tons of information around what best practices are, what our options were, etc.

A few months ago, I had a termite inspection performed by a reputable dealer. The termite inspector found no insects but said that my crawlspace was very damp and suggested that I get it checked out. Due to the very wet summer we have had this year, I was inclined to just let the matter go until the fall to see if the moisture abated. However, when I went underneath and checked, I could see where sections of the crawlspace did not have a vapor barrier, droplets of condensation were falling from the air conditioning ducts, the subfloor insulation was very wet and soaked in some areas and the wood beams were damp. I began researching the internet and found that all of those conditions led to mold, wood rot (requiring eventual replacement of the beams( and a reduction the effectiveness of the insulation. I then obtained 5 estimates from seemingly reputable businesses that dealt with excessive dampness in a crawlspace. To give you an idea of how damp my crawlspace was, the humidity level was around 70% and the dampness of the wood was above 50%. The quotes I received ranged from a low of $3,800 to a high of over $12,000. Two of the low bidders said that the wet insulation was fine and just recommended to put in a 10 ml vapor barrier with a dehumidifier. One bidder recommended that the insulation be removed and replaced with a solid sheet insulation that went around the walls, a 10 ml vapor barrier and a dehumidifier. The last two bidders recommended removal of the existing wet insulation, replacement with close foam insulation for the walls, a vapor barrier and a dehumidifier. In reading a fair amount of material on the subject, it was imperative to me that the wet insulation be removed and opted to go with Peak Energy for the reasons enumerated below:. (1) The reputation of Nathan, the President of Peak Energy, from the Angie's List reviews was very favorable. The only negative remarks involved failing to get back to a customer which I believe was an aberration for him. I reviewed the comments very carefully and found that his crawl space encapsulation system using "close foam" insulation coupled with a good dehumidifier and a 12 ml vapor seal was by far a better way to address my excess moisture problem than leaving the old insulation or using the sheet insulation on the walls. Peak Energy also provides an external monitor so that the homeowner can always tell what the temperature and humidity level is in the crawlspace. (2) Peak Energy provided a detailed explanation of the proposal in writing and gave me time to evaluate the proposal. Some of the other bidders provided very little information about the process. I was also given the opportunity to add/delete conditions in the contract. All of these changes (such as final payment subject to inspection approval) were agreed upon by Nathan prior to the commencement of work. (3) The price of $5700 was very competitive. Peak Energy gave me a $100 Angie's List Discount and a matching military discount. Nathan indicated that I could have used a major credit card but that he would have to charge me the fee that the credit card company charged him. The other contractors I interviewed did not say this though I suspect their prices may have been higher to cover that cost. This should be a consideration if an owner wants to use a credit card. I also did not discuss finance options with Nathan. Some of the other contractors offered no-cost financing deals where you could make monthly payments without incurring any interest or fees if the amount owed was paid off in 3 years. (4) The work was performed in around 3-4 days. Work was performed in an efficient and timely manner and the Peak subcontractors/contractors cleaned up after they were done. Nathan personally came by each day to inspect and to do final checks on the work. For example, after the close foam insulation had been sprayed, Nathan had the subcontractors come back and do some more work when he discovered a small area that needed a bit more insulation. (5) The work was permitted and payment was subject to approval by the City of Apex on the electrical and insulation work meeting code. I thought this was very important for resale purposes. Some of the low bidders said that an inspection permit was not necessary if the cost were under $5,000 and seemed to think this was an unnecessary cost. (6) The warranty for the work performed carries over to any subsequent owner of the property. For these reasons, I would endorse using Peak Energy for these types of moisture control issues in a crawlspace or basement.
Description of Work: Peak Energy removed old, wet subfloor insulation, put down a 12 ml moisture vapor barrier, sealed all the vents to the crawlspace, sprayed close foam insulation around the entire perimeter of the crawlspace and put in a dehumidifier.

Weeks have past. I gave some leeway for the Independence Day holiday, but began inquiring about the status of my bid via telephone and email early in July. Almost all of my messages have again gone unreturned. I did recieve one apologetic email claiming that they must be having problems with their email. That message did not mention the work that I need done or the status of the bid in any way. Therre has been no other follow up or inquiry regarding my job. I still have not recieved an estimate for the cost of the recommended work. I contacted this company only because of their A+ rating. I don't see it.
Description of Work: I first contacted this business through Angies List during the winter months because of the cold temperatures in our drafty old home. I remember only two emails with the company to try to schedule a visit, but they were widely spaced and disjointed. There did not seem to be any motivation or organized effort on behalf of Peak Energy to get intouch and schedule a visit to my home. I followed up with several unreturned emails. Fast forward to the spring, and I again contacted the company because my previous insulation problems remain, and there is dampness in the crawlspace after all the recent rain. I was able to schedule a meeting, a knowledgable gentleman came to my home, made some recommendations, and promised a quote for the cost of the work.

Nathan and his staff did a great job -- Nathan gave me a thorough quote and adjusted the work scope when I asked about some less expensive options, & answered all the questions I had as the work progressed. His team got the work done quickly and carefully and with minimal disruption to the rest of my home. And they somehow maintained a cheerful manner even though they were working on the one very warm day this past Spring --which meant the attic was really hot to work in!
Description of Work: Sealed my attic to meet Progress Energy rebate requirements, including wrapping my skylight in insulation, replacing insulation that had fallen off a vertical wall, covering up open holes from the attic that extended down behind walls in my living room and into my utility closet, and adding insulation throughout the attic.

Peak Energy Inc did an excellent job. Nathan Rider, owner of the company, is very professional, honest, and knowledgeable about energy efficient homes and the proper procedures for installing a closed crawl space system. He completed the job on time and exceeded our expectations. We also like that Peak Energy is a local, small business. Our ranch style home is less than two years old with hardwood flooring throughout. When the house was built, our crawlspace was constructed according to the conventional, wall vented, vapor barrier specifications. Our hardwood floors started cupping throughout the summer months and we became very concerned about permanent damage to the floors. After conducting research on causes and solutions to this problem, I became aware of the studies completed on the benefits of closed crawl spaces in controlling humidity levels in residential homes. I spoke with Advanced Energy, a Raleigh NC based corporation that participated in many of these studies and they provided me names of companies that were trained by them in closed crawl space systems, Peak Energy being one of the companies. Nathan Rider visited our home free of charge, analyzed the problem, and provided us the solution for correcting the problem. Upon our first meeting with Nathan, we were very comfortable with his analysis and recommendation and the reasons for completing the many components of a closed crawl space system. We believe that Peak Energy provided us the best quality, workmanship, and cost competitive system in comparison to the other six companies that we contacted. Since the installation of the closed crawlspace system in our home in December 2012, our hardwood floors have already started to level. The humidity in our crawlspace and in our home is now always less that 55%. Prior to the installation of the system, the humidity levels in our home were frequently higher than 65% and the humidity in our crawlspace over 70%. Our floors are much warmer and we can comfortably walk without shoes even on the coldest days. An added benefit is the cleanliness of our home. There is noticeably less dust since the system was installed. We highly recommend Nathan Rider, Peak Energy.
Description of Work: Installation of a completely closed crawl space system with insulated walls as defined by the NC Residential Building Code. Services included: cleaning out and preparing the crawlspace, sealing and insulating foundation vents and walls, weather stripping and insulating access doors, installation of a heavy duty reinforced floor liner and wall liner along bottom of walls and piers, sealing openings between crawl space and conditioned living space, installation of supply air inducer devices on the HVAC supply ducts, installation of a wireless thermo/hygrometer to monitor the temperature and humidity of the crawlspace from inside the home, installation of a inside water detection alarm to detect water leaks in the crawlspace, and obtaining the required building permits.

They are keeping my humidity down. I was given a dehumidifier to keep this down as well. They did a very good job. Nathan, the president, gave us the quote. He spent a lot of time recommending various things and gave me a couple of options as far as getting this done. He came up with an option that wouldn't cost me a lot of money. They agreed to come out a day and got the job complete in one day. I was very pleased and would highly recommend this company. They did exactly what they promised to do! I was given 3 other estimates and went with this company.

Several repairman working in the crawl space to fix electricity and HVAC issues from a lightning strike let me know I had signficant puddles and moisture pouring off the main beams. I did my research on the internet around problems/solutions for such issues. I then went onto Angies List and asked 3 companies do evaluation/estimates. I found Peak Energy to provided the most comprehensive proposal that was in keeping with 'best practices' in the industry. Nathan directly answered all my questions, the materials list was of a superior quality than those offered by other contractors, and his quote was competitive. The work was performed as promised, on budget and on time. Nathan followed up to make sure the humidity was staying below acceptable levels and that I was fully satisfied. I could not ask anything more of a contractor, pure Excellence. Peak Energy offers best in class service and materials. Nathan is very conscientious and cares very much that I was satisfied with his work. I recommend Peak Energy highly and when more family relocates here, I have no doubt we will be calling Nathan to waterproof that basement too. It solved the moisture issues that were critical to health of beams and avoidance of mold but it made the crawlspace an unwelcome place for all the ants and other bugs that thrive in moist areas.

We had been trying to find (for several months) the right business to perform this home improvement. Nathan provided the most thorough and understandable proposal letter of any of the other businesses. He was very knowledgeable of the products and over saw the work himself. He also gave us the best price.

We had a really good experience with Peak Energy. The president, Nathan, is very knowledgeable and offered us two solutions for our humidity problem in our crawl space. We went with the more complete solution that involved completing sealing the crawl space with spray foam insulation. While it took a little while to get the quote and finalize the contract, once the work was started it was performed efficiently in 4 days. There were some issues finalizing the inspection, and Nathan worked hard to sort out and resolve the issues for us in a timely manner. It is important to note that the issues were with the inspector's lack of knowledge of sealed crawl spaces, and not at all with the work performed. In addition to the crawl space, Nathan also sealed several cracks we had in our vents/ductwork that were causing unconditioned air to leak into our home. Nathan reminded me about the Angie's list coupon as I was paying the final invoice, which was extremely kind of him. I would highly recommend Peak Energy based on the exceptional level of customer service and quality of work performed.

The work was flawless. Nathan, the owner of Peak, stayed on site throughout the insulation application process. He was even in the attic during the mid-summer heat making sure the foam was being installed properly by his men. Even inspecting and crawling through to those hard to reach crevices, and nooks, that had to be hotter than the devil's playground. Much respect from me, for going the extra step. Nathan also worked with Town of Cary inspections, to get make sure all questions were answered by the inspectors. He basically dotted the "i's" and crossed the "t's" with all the regulations so I didn't have to worry about a thing. I appreciate the thoroughness.
Description of Work: While Finishing my Attic, we noticed using standard Fiberglass insulation that would be needed to pass inspection would have made the room all but unusable with ceiling being as low as 6.5" in some parts. So a friend recommended I look into Spray Insulation. I checked Angies List, and quickly located Peak and two other contractors. One contractor failed to even make the visit for an estimate, and the other, a very reputable company in the Triangle area, came in with a mind warping quote of $8300. This was close to double the cost, for the same amount of square foot spray coverage for the same Icynene product. What made Peak a more standout company was not just that the Attic needed Foam. But he did a quick audit throughout my house, and solved a problem that was causing a temperature issue in my daughter's room. He noticed the duct was 6 inches instead of 8 inches throughout the house. He suggested what needed changing, and what kind of duct to look for. Couple of days later I had my Handyman (Hammer Handyman) replace the duct, which we bought at Home Depot. Solved the heating/cooling problem in that room. Peak didn't charge for the fix. Albeit, I did pay handsomely for the Attic Foam. So the insulation cost seems high, but I am now a true believer of Foam insulation. Previously we were planning to only Insulate the living area of the attic (with Fiberglass). But what we ended up doing was to completely seal the whole roof. Meaning every thing from the roof peak to the eave Soffit was foamed in. So what this did was not just moderate the Finished attic space, but also kept the duct work leading to the 2nd floor at a more moderate level. So my ducts were not boiling at 130F in the hot summer, and at a more moderate 90-95 during peak daytime heat. Yes there really was that much improvement in the heat reduction during the mid-summer day. Now imagine how effieciently the 2nd floor AC works when the duct is now 30F cooler. In fact, I was planning on replacing the 2nd floor unit to a higher tonnage since my 2nd flr unit was working constantly. The unit is fine, just a bit undersized by the original builder. But now with the foam in place, my 2nd floor is much cooler as well. That in itself will save me $2000-3000 for a new 2nd flr unit. Of course annual climate fluctuates. But it seems like I am saving about $25-30 a month compared to 12 months prior. And by looking at my "Smart" Thermostat, it seems like I am averaging about 5-7 mins per hour of less "On" time. (YES, I am that nerdy) That doesn't seem like much. But that is a lot if you think that your HVAC system when "on" could be over 2000 watts of power. I think in the future, after I recover from the cost of finishing my attic, I will call Peak again to figure out a solution for sealing my crawl space.

I want to thank Peak Energy for doing an outstanding job on my crawl space encapsulation at a reasonable price. Not only did Nathan and his team pull appropriate permits, show up on time, act professional and complete the job to my high standards, Nathan took the time to point out a sewer line leak, a major leak under the master bathroom shower that had been going on for years (he even provided me with names of general contractors to fix the problem), issues with my water drain, and provided guidance on needed maintenance with my furnace. Nathan not only knows what he is doing, but did all of the little things that made my experience with Peak Energy one of the best in my 20+ years of home ownership. Thanks Nathan.
Description of Work: Sealed crawl space including removal of old insulation, cleaning existing mold, adding a sealed liner system, spray foam insulation on all walls, installing a supply air inducer device, installation of two combustion air ducts (since we have a gas furnace in our crawl space), installing a new sump pump, and obtaining all necessary permits.

Extremely well. No complaints at all.
Description of Work: My only complaint is that I did not find Nathan sooner! My home was built in 2011. My husband and I noticed that our room over the garage stayed 15 to 20 degrees cooler or warmer depending on the season. We spoke to several companies about the issue and they all said this was a common issue in most homes and we basically had to live with it. After speaking with the company that originally installed the whole house insulation, they came to our home and said the incorrect insulation was installed over the garage and did not meet code. It was not caught during the insulation inspection. The company admitted the error and was willing to fix it, however the dry wall in our 3 car garage would need to be removed to gain access which they were unwilling to pay for the removal and replacement of the dry wall. Peak Energy was recommended to us so we called for an assessment. Nathan came to our home and by looking into our access doors was able to see that it was improperly insulated. Rather than a big demolition project, he recommended individual holes be cut out of the garage ceiling so that he could fit a hose into the ceiling a blow in more insulation. It took him and one other person 2 days to complete the job. They were both very polite, extremely clean leaving our garage and the room in the house as they found it. There was no mess to clean up! Nathan saved the dry wall holes which were easily replaced by our drywaller. Our room is on average 5 to 10 degrees different from the remainder of our upstairs and is much more comfortable. He was extremely inventive in his solution to the problem which in turn saved us a lot of money.

The overall process went smoothly. From the estimate through completion of the project Nathan was very professional in all his dealings with us. Completion of the work took a little longer than anticipated as a part that was needed was out of stock, but Nathan communicated this to us and was apologetic about the delay. After completion of the work, the humidity level in the crawl space did not drop as anticipated. We communicated this to Nathan and he quickly came back to install a dehumidifier. I would recommend Nathan to anyone that is considering sealing their crawl space.

After several estimates were received, we chose the Peak Energy Inc. company to perform the job. Nathan Rider came to my daughters house and provided us with a written proposal as well as a few other documents of recomended work. I called Nathan several times to discuss cost, type of materials, service date, etc. He answered every question and returned missed calls promptly. Peak energy was not the lowest estimate but they were the only company that would provide the service requested without trying to sell more than what was requested. They also provided a $100.00 coupon from Angie's List. Once the job was scheduled, they arrived on time and completed the work in a timly maner. Nathan provided oversight on the work during the entire process. My daughter is satisfied with the work and would use this company in the future and would recommend them to others.

Peak energy sealed my crawl space to create a dry and healthy crawl space with a moderate temperature year round. Removed and dispose of existing fiberglass floor insulation above crawl space. Eliminate existing vents and seal all penetrations in the foundation walls Remove debris and large rocks from crawl space ground. Removed surface mold on floor joists by wet wiping with an EPA registered biocide. Create a moisture and vapor barrier. Now I have a clean and healthy crawl space. Thanks
Description of Work: All work was done as stated in contract and on time. Nathan was very professional and courteous at all time.

I feel that the work done was appropriate for the price paid and it was a good experience. When and if I need work done in my attic I'll be sure to call Nathan for a consult.
Description of Work: Nathan provided a sealed an insulated crawlspace on my home. I found him and his crew to be exceptionally professional, prompt and clean. My crawlspace has been an issue for me since before I bought my home. Prior to moving in there was a small bit of mold noticed on the front wall of my foundation by our home inspector. The company brought in to do the french drain and dig the front of my foundation was Shamrock Waterproofing. The part they did was done well, but two years later I noticed more moisture in the crawl and their recommendation for fixing the problem didn't take care of the issue. So I decided to get multiple opinions on my crawl before having the work done. In all I received five estimates from the top five waterproofers recommended on Angie's List. The estimates and type of work to be completed varied from very low estimates $800 - $9,000. Because of this it left me confused, that's when I stumbled upon a report done by Advanced Energy (a non-profit group based out of Raleigh) that did a workup on sealed crawls done many different ways (some they didn't seal) and looked at the results a few years later. I was impressed. This is what really sold me about Nathan. He took about an 30 minutes after giving me an estimate to talk to me on the phone and we spoke back and forth about the recommendations given by Advanced Energy and what he thought. Based on the estimates I had, some of the other contractors told me that after they pulled the insulation from under my house (which was damp) it did not need to be replaced or have the exterior wall of the foundation insulated. Mainly because the ambient temperature from the ground will regulate the temperature to a nominal 60 - 75 degrees and water can't get in once the crawl is sealed. This is wrong and if you go this route it may save you money, but it will cost you down the road if you try and sell your house. North Carolina code states that your crawl needs to be insulated either on the joists or on the exterior of the foundation. Once I confirmed this with someone from Advanced Energy and Nathan it immediately rejected about three of the estimates I had received. That left two and the other estimate used a new technology to insulate my foundation with a spray on ceramic coating rather than closed foam insulation like Advanced Energy report recommended. They also wanted to instal a fresh air vent and a few other items that seemed over the top and unnecessary. I chose to go with Peak because their best plan for my crawl matched the best option from the Advanced report and was a reasonable quote, not the best, but it seemed like he knew what I wanted. To me, that was worth the extra money. Peace of mind is always worth a little more to me. What he did: Removed all the mold from the crawl manually, sprayed a mold inhibitor around my whole foundation, removed rocks and debris and regraded the dirt floor towards my already installed crawl pump, secured anything loose to the foundation or joists(wires, HVAC runs, etc.), sealed every crevice to the living space or outside with fire resistant foam spray. Layed a 12mil reinforced liner along the piers, walls, floor and secured it to the wall about a foot up the foundation. Then sprayed a good 3-6 inches of closed foam insulation around the foundation. Hooked up a damper to my HVAC system to provide 60 cfm of conditioned air to regulate the moisture in my crawl to avoid the expense of a dehumidifier and gave me a monitoring device to keep upstairs that gives me the temperature and humidity of my crawl and compares it to my living space. Results: I find that my allergies have improved since the crawl has been sealed and the mold removed. The humidity fluxuated for a good month in my crawl the first month after installation. Which Nathan came back to my house to do a monitoring of the crawl after the work was complete. We attributed the flux in humidity levels to my crawl entering a drying phase, which I now believe is correct. The temp is always between 62 - 68 degrees and humidity is always in the mid 40's - lower 50's. The real test in going to be this summer when the humidity outside kicks up, but I'm feeling confident that the work done will more than handle the challange. However, if it doesn't, I'm also confident that Nathan will stand up for his work and help fix the issues. I feel that if you do your homework and at least get a quote from Nathan you will feel that he is one of the best contractors out there currently sealing crawlspaces.

Nathan Rider was always prompt, professional and courteous. He did what he said he was going to do and he did it when he said he was going to do it. My husband is a HVAC engineer and he had A LOT of questions for Nathan beginning with his proposal through project completion. Nathan satisfied all of my husband's questions with technical details. Nathan was very knowledgeable about technical aspects of the installation as well as building code related issues. He aquired all of the necessary city permits and inspections for the project. We highly recommend Nathan, and we would use Peak Energy again. Nathan included a wireless inhome monitoring device for the temperature and humidity levels of the crawlspace. (The device also measures temperature and humidity in our home). We recently had an 85 degree day and our AC unit did not run for as long as it would have before the work was completed.
Description of Work: Peak Energy sealed our crawl space by insulating walls, sealing crawl space vents, installing a combustion air fan, sealing floor penetrations, and installing a floor drain.

Nathan Rider, President of Peak Energy, Inc. arrived on time to provide an estimate. After we agreed upon the scope of work and price, the project was scheduled for the following week. Again, Nathan and his employee arrived on time. The work quality was superior and the price reasonable. They cleaned up afterwards and I now have a space that is more energy efficient which can be utilized for storage. I intend to have similar work completed in my attic and I wouldn't think of using anyone other than Peak Energy.

We called Peak on a weekday asking them to come by for an esitmate after our HVAC company said we needed additional insulation in our attic. We also wanted the garage insulated and finished which was something our HVAC could not complete, plus their prices seemed very high. I called Peak on Tuesday 2/27 and he said he would coordinate with his drywall company and call me within 24 hours. I had to call him 4 days later, he said he did not write down my phone number. I could have lived with that, we all make mistakes. I made an appointment for the esitmate on Tuesday March 6th at 9am, he arrived almost 20 minutes late without a phone call. During the inspection he saw a tear in the duct work in the attic that our HVAC company had missed, he also stated that additional attic insulation was not needed at this time. He said that if the insulation was needed it would cost around $300, our HVAC company quoted us $685 and said we needed 8 inches of insulation! We appreciated his honesty, not trying to upsell us on unneeded work. He emailed us the photo of the tear that same day and said he would get back to us on the garage insulation and finishing prices, we haven't heard a word from him since. My husband emailed him a week after the estimate (3-13-12) and we still have not heard anything. This company is very highly rated on Angie's List so I was very surprised to see such terrible customer service. We will continue getting estimates, and we will not be going with Peak Energy. April 2012 update: Nathan contacted us concerning our estimate. He apologized for taking longer than the 10 days he normally takes for getting estimates to customers and explained that he was very busy. The expectation was never set that the estimate would take 10 days, which may have stopped some of this confusion. He also explained that the email he used to send us a photo of the tear in our duct work is not an email he uses, which is the email we responded to, hence why he didn't receive. We did receive an estimate from Nathan for our garage insulation and drywall and his prices are comparable. Overall we appreciate Nathan not trying to "sell" us on unneeded insulation, and though there was a lot of miscommunication, we appreciate him getting us our estimate. We are continuing with the project, but we are going with someone else. We would call on Nathan again for future projects.

Response from Peak Energy Inc
Unfortunately, I believe there was an obvious misunderstanding between the client who wrote this report and her husband who I met at their home and discussed this proposed project with. Surprisingly, I did not receive an email or phone call from either of them regarding their concerns. I am not a high pressure salesman and try not to both customers with multiple phone calls prior to sending them a proposal nor while I am patiently awaiting their decision. I will attempt to contact this customer and see what we can do to resolve this issue. Our goal is to completely satisfy all of our customers and continue to provide excellent customer service.

Nathan arrived at 0745 with a planned start time of 0800. He was on time everyday and made accommodations for my family's schedule. He was one of the few people who suggested pulling a permit..actually he insisted and was there to protect my interest. Area was clean after the job and I can already tell a difference in the humidity and warmth in the area.
Description of Work: I have nothing but excellent things to say about Nathan Rider and his company Peak Energy. After having some 10 contractors give me bids from $2k to 9k I was absolutely frustrated with getting my crawlspace encapsulated. I had already done quite a bit of research on getting it done prior to the estimates. Nathan was not the cheapest but did not try and snowball me with b.s. myths and suggestions. He gave me all the answers I expected from someone who knew what they were talking about. From day one of the job, he was prompt and courteous. He made accommodations to work around my kids nap times and supervised and worked every piece of the project. He built a professional door to the front steps crawlspace and rebuilt the existing exterior door. His company left a professional looking and quality job behind. Bottom line he cares about the job and his customers. Nathan completed a totally encapsulated crawlspace with spray foam insulation, new drains and doors. his follow up and attention to detail have been unmatched. I would recommend him to anyone who is need of his services.
