Description of Work: Called provider, got immediate answer. He had a very good idea of the damage I caused to the side of the house (hit it with backhoe, pushed the wall in and broke the window.) Gave me the quote of $1500 off the top of his head. I agreed, suspecting the price was in the right range and also expecting the work to be done fairly quickly, since we had to tape a plastic bag over the window. | |It was approximately 30 days before he finally "got the window from his vendor." I was there when he unloaded his truck and the window wasn't in any box, crate, any kind of packaging. Looked like he'd taken it from another job site. | |The plus side: He removed the damaged siding and two, I suspect, subcontractors got started with the window and drywall. Everything was replaced and the drywall was repaired, mudded and dried very quickly, it looked pristine and there was no trace of dust in the room. This is why I ranked the Quality at an 'A'. | |However, the window had a blemish, a scrape if you will, on one of the panes. He swore he would have his vendor replace it ASAP. Also, there was another single run of siding that he'd agreed to replace. It had a hole in it likely from a rock thrown from a lawn mower. | |This original job was performed November 25, 2015. After weeks of waiting I began calling. I left multiple voicemails over the span of 3 months. | |I finally had a lawyer send him a letter demanding he finish the job. He was there within a day or so of when he likely received the letter. | |I ranked the price as a 'C' only because it's "in the middle" and I didn't get any competing estimates, but I felt the price was appropriate. I should probably rank it lower since part of my expectation was that the job would be completed much sooner than it was.

Response from Hancock Home Solutions
We apologize that this client feels that there has been any disservice. That is not what we are known for and our reputation is very important to us and feel that reviews, to hold weight, should be based on fact and reality. After reading the review however, we feel we simply need to clarify a few points. First, thanks for the A on quality. We feel that our crew did an excellent job on this project as well. Concerning the crew, this project was not sub-contracted you can see the same guys on one of our projects right now today. We are also happy to know that you felt the price for this project was in line. The price. however, was not off the top of our head, we have been doing this for 25 years and know what it will take for any given project. Not just small ones like this, but any project. We'd also like to remind you that we said it could take 2 to 3 weeks to order and receive a replacement window unit, we're certain that if you ask any contractor, worth their salt, how long it takes to get a custom window they will state the same. Then just like we stated to you, since we never know exactly what day a special order product may arrive, we always inform the client that it will be put on the schedule as soon as we receive the materials, but it would be within a week of receiving the product/material. Therein lies the reason for the 30 day process. As for the window being a "used" window, we are more than happy to visit our supply center and show you first hand that none of the windows come in a box, crate or any kind of packaging. They are only wrapped with cellophane. So when we pulled it off the truck, the cellophane was in the bed where we had cut it off and you simply didn't walk close enough to the truck to take notice of that but I wish you would have expressed that concern that day instead of making it sound, here on AL, as if we'd do such a thing. We believe you also failed to notice the manufacturer stickers all over the glass, that we removed on installation. You can also look at the info tag on the unit and see the manufacturing date. Had it come from an old job, it would be dirty, dingy in the tracks and have sealants still stuck to the frame. We know because we have done that for many clients on request. You were also informed of the blemish the window sash had on the lower right corner of the glass, that, by the way, we'd like to remind you, we pointed out to you before we even installed it. You were given the option to wait for a new window or carry on and you agreed that it was better to go ahead and have it 99.9% repaired and wait for a replacement sash than to not have it in at all. This "blemish" was about a 1/4" long and 1/32" wide which we suspected could be a scratch on the glass. Again we were the one to inform you and your mother as you had no idea it was there even after you looked at the finished work you didn't notice it. We did immediately order the replacement sash, which was and is under warranty(which you don't get on an old job window) and as we explained, warranty orders take longer to receive than standard orders and that was explained to you every time you called for an update over the next couple of months. Then, you were informed when the unit arrived but that the horrible weather wasn't allowing us to get to it in a timely fashion. Might we remind you again of the kind of winter storms, snow, downpours, freezing, etc etc etc that was preventing us from coming by to pop in the new sash and put on 1 piece of siding. We say remind you again because it was stated to you every time you called. We even verified a few times that you live within an hour of the job site to make sure you were experiencing the same kind of terrible weather for as long as we had been because we received calls from you during times of severe weather and didn't seem to believe it was far to bad to go out. Had we known that you would threaten to sue us for trying our very best to get to you, above all of our other clients who were experiencing emergencies, to put in the sash that was, according to you the first day, not an emergency and was performing as intended. Also, the vinyl siding that you speak of was broken because the siding on the house is old and cracked on removal to fix the damage. Vinyl siding is notorious for cracking and breaking in very cold temps. Again, please feel free to verify that fact with other contractors or google. So the siding we replaced was bought by us and repaired at no additional charge even though technically we should have billed you for time and material because it was something that had nothing to do with us. But we try to treat folks fairly and do what we can to make each experience with us a pleasant one. Also, we have the receipts and order confirmation forms for BOTH times the windows were ordered that prove they were brand new and done in a timely fashion. So in closing, we understand that some folks like to use AL as a kind of soap box to vent frustrations, real or imagined, but we feel, in this situation, that we were unfairly graded especially given that we: were fast to respond to your initial request, on the low end of costs, fast to perform all the work we could to put you in a good place, pointed out the damage to you, informed you of the process up front and the kind of time that would take, were able to take a credit card payment on the spot, always answered your calls or called you back and kept you abreast of the weather situation NC was experiencing at the time. We also feel it is important for you to know that we didn't go back out to the job because you had some lawyer make threats against us for something that was underway and out of our control but rather because the sash was in, the weather had broke and the schedule permitted it. It just aligned in such a way to make it look like we jumped because of the letter. Which we also responded to immediately. Lastly, I'd like to point out that what we thought was a scratch on the glass turned out to be a bit of stray glue from the factory build so there was actually no damage at all and nothing to be concerned about. We still have the sash at our office should you wish to verify the legitimacy of that statement as well. In light of this fact backed information, it is our hope and request that you change our grade to, if not an A, then at least something that more accurately represents your experience based on the facts and not feelings. We just don't feel that what you've said is correct or reflects the actual situation and what you have done has a seriously negative impact on our reputation on AL and elsewhere for complaints that aren't justified. Thank you for your time and best wishes to you.

Description of Work: The owner came and checked my door. I told him it was oversized. He quoted me a price for a storm door. A few days later, a man came to my door at 9:00, waking me up. I was not notified that anyone was coming and not prepared for this. He measured the door and said it was not standard size, and would cost more than the original estimate. He left and I never heard from them again.
Rating CategoryRating out of 5

Response from Hancock Home Solutions
We were only doing our job. We didn't mean to wake anyone up at 9am. We were there to confirm the measurements and complete the quote. We had been out the previous day to look at the project and informed the client we would have to check with the supplier. We did give a tentative estimate and yes when we got the quote it was a bit more than what was quoted. We did offer a cheaper alternative which was to frame in the door opening a little so a standard storm door would fit and if it needed to be replaced down the road it would be standard therefore less expensive. The client did not respond to the offer. We did not call the client back after that as there is nothing more we could offer. We want everyone to be satisfied, however, you cannot please everyone all the time. I will say I think that an F is extremely unfair as we did answer the call, show up on time for our appointment, gave excellent advice, came back and double checked measurements and followed up with more affordable alternatives.

The only portion of work that had to be gone back to was the ceiling painting. It didn't cover well on the first coat. The client called and made us aware and we came back out the very next day and painted that ceiling again and it was perfect. There were never any damaged materials reused. This house was getting some touchups for marketing purposes as the owner was leaving the state. She had the opportunity to review our work before payment and she said she was satisfied and paid the bill. This is the first I've heard of anyone not being happy with this little patch job.

Description of Work: Mike Hancock and his work crew did an outstanding job at our home. Mike ordered new replacement windows and installed all 13. They also vinyl sided around windows, doors, soffit and eavesof our brick home. There was some rotted wood on our home and Mike repaired those before vinyl siding. Mike had his painters clean, sand, and paint our wooden shutters and front door. The job probably could have been done quicker, but November weather held the crew back. We will use Mike and his partner, Mike again.

Dear Members I hope this note finds you and yours doing well. As someone who cares, quite deeply, about each and every client's experience with me throughout, and beyond, our time together, I'd first like to offer an apology for how you feel your project has been handled. I'd truly like to make it right for you. Let me try to explain the situation as I saw it in hopes for your understanding. I was truly under the impression, from our meeting, that you, and speaking to Member just last week, that you guys were in no hurry to complete this project. Which if I recall was to remove your hall laundry bi-fold doors, remove the t-molding, that is liquid nailed to a concrete slab at the hardwood floor, remove the brackets and hangers, color match paint and Install 2 arch top regular swing doors which I was to chisel out and recess new hinges on the door and frame, repair old screw holes, install wooden door stop, caulk and color match paint and paint casings, hang doors, install bolts, handles and hardware, install new matching t molding on hardwood floor. Remove all trash dust and debris. I also remember throwing in replacing your stoppers and tail pieces in your two vanity sinks if you would buy the parts and also trying to repair your lack of water pressure in your kitchen sink. Having written all that out surprises me that I at didn't at least get an A on price given that I was doing all that for $100. As for Punctuality, I feel I should have achieved an A. I remember the first day I came to give the estimate. I was actually a bit early as you had said you'd be home all day. I rang and waited as long as I felt satisfied that, given the small size of the house, you would know I was ringing. I left and you called before I got to the end of the road and said you were home and if I recall correctly you were pretty upset that I was a few minutes early, to the point that I jokingly said to you that I had never had anyone be so upset with me for being a little early that it's usually the other way around. Also I let you know that I was on a tight schedule and couldn't promise the exact day that I could come to do the work, as I often do with small jobs less than a few hours, and I'd try to squeeze you in as soon as possible and that I'd call you in advance to confirm. I also spoke with your husband just recently and told him that Lowes in Greenville said they would have to order the door and he said he already had the door. I told him I'd try to get by in the next few days, which again was just last week. We have been punctual and on time for everyone so far even with the bad spots of weather setting us back a few days. It's also such a pitty that you'll never believe this but I had planned on calling you tomorrow to schedule for Friday, as you were grouped with a "punch list" or group of smaller jobs, to be done over the rest of the week to not forget anyone and be prepared for the major work week coming up on Monday and lasting through December. I had even already made plans to have lunch on the waterfront with an old friend who lives in Hyde County, since I was going to be up that way. Which also reminds me that I do live about an hour and a half from you. This leads me to feel that I should also at least have an A- on responsiveness. According to my records, I only got one call from your husband so I honestly couldn't have put you off twice and it was a pleasant conversation as I recall. I wish I would've known you were becoming aggitated, before it got to this point as I assure you, had I known, I would've made the time to complete that project for you and done all I could to earn your trust and satisfaction. All of that being said, I am very happy and willing to do just that. Make it right. We can still come out as I had planned, if you haven't already found someone local, on Friday. I plan to still have lunch with my friend, so I'll be in the area. Just give me a call. I sincerely hope this has helped you understand that it was not my intention to neglect your project needs in any way and that I am again, deeply sorry for your feelings. I have a long list of impeccable references of very satisfied clients and I would be very happy to reconcile this misunderstanding and add you to the list. Thanks for the opportunity, I wish you and your husband all the best and I hope we can work together very soon.

I needed my house cleaned for company coming over the weekend, and had an injury which prevented me from doing it. Hancock Home Solutions promptly answered my call, came to give me an estimate, and fit me into their schedule. Because of hurricane Irene the windows were a mess, so I asked to include them. The house was spotless, and had a clean, healthy smell that didn't smell like product. If I could afford to use this service all the time, I definitely would.

We've had work done in the past and it was nothing like him -- he was on time every time every day, did exactly what he said he would do and always cleaned up after himself. He documented what he did with pictures so that I could see exactly what he had done. He had great communication. He had a price-matching guarantee and he honored it!
