He did one of the sorriest jobs imaginable. The new construction walls are not square. One of the walls is bowed. The floor has air pockets in it. He left a gap between the foundation and the part he added on where bugs, crickets, and mice can get up into the house. That we now have to fix. We have to go back and redo a lot of what he had done. The problem is that we have paid him. He had told me that he had ordered all of the countertops, but then came and told me that one came up short so he was going to order another one. When he put the kitchen countertops in, he didn't seal them. On one end there was a gap so wide that I could put my fingers in it up to my knuckle. He said it could not be fixed and he would not even attempt to do so. My husband asked him to just unbolt it and that he would then fix it. Mike just packed up his stuff, took all of tools, the paint and stain that we had paid for and left. I asked him to bring the stuff we paid for back. He said he would bring it back, but he didn't. He then called when the countertop came in and claimed he hadn't quit. He wanted to put it in and collect an additional $900. I told him I wouldn't pay the $600 that he offered to drop it down to. His wife then called to see if she could get things worked out. My husband let her know that he did not want Mike working in our house anymore once he had already packed up and left. Mike's attitude was bad. When I would ask him to see receipts; he would say and lsquo;he knew what it was all about' and then would hang up on me. I never saw receipts for anything. I would not recommend him. We have a slanted ceiling in our kitchen. He broke the sheetrock a little bit; a slight bend. The line is now just as crooked as you could have ever seen. There is another spot they didn't sand down that also sticks out. They didn't put the stain on some of the wood that they replaced. The door we supplied in the bathroom was not cut level, so there is about a 3/8 inch gap at the bottom and a and frac14; inch gap at the top. You have to almost slam the door to get it to latch. Had I known, I never ever would have done anything to my house. I would have been happier leaving it as it was. He wanted to make sure we got a bull nose countertop. Once he installed the countertop, I noticed it was not a bull nose. I had never heard of a bull nose till he told me about it originally. I even called Lowe's and they stated they do in fact make a bull nose. I thought that maybe it wasn't an option, but they do. I couldn't believe he had the audacity to lie to me and tell me what he installed was a bull nose when it wasn't. My husband took the countertops off and noticed more issues on how they didn't install the sink correctly. He tried to tell me the floors that aren't level were the old part of the house; but it was the new part that he added on. When he was putting in the sink, he cut both lines to the dishwasher. It was just one thing after another. When we originally talked to him, he told us it would be mid-may before he could get started. It was sometime in the first of June when he got started. At no time did we call and complain or ask when they would get started. They would work a few days, then nobody would show up and it continued. The week of July 4th, he was groaning about missing time with his family and I gave him a pass. When they were almost done, they just got into a big hurry. They didn't put down a half round on the floor. They left a piece of molding out. They got paint on my navy blue carpet that I still haven't totally gotten off. It was horrible. We have to redo it all again, ourselves.

Thus far thru 3 visits everything has gone very well. Scheduling can be a little problematic since her primary clientele are real estate companies and they may contact her in a panic to have a house cleaned for next day move-in...so a little flexibility is needed but it is NO problem for us. They are very good about contacting us if there are any delays. They use all their own supplies and equipment.

We were promised the windows in 2 weeks. Instead Mike got the windows and actually got them to us in 10 days. He brought his ladders to our house the day before and called to say he would be by in the morning and get the job done. As promised, by 8AM, he and his work crew were here and started working on the removal and installation of the windows. The crew all worked together in harmony. The job was done in less than 5 hours. We noticed there was a trim problem on several of the windows and Mike promised he would be back at the end of the day with the material needed and he showed up around 5 PM with his whole crew and they finished up the project. There was no sign that they had actually even been here. Job site cleaned and restored as it was before they started.
Follow-up report/status:

After the work was finished on the windows, we noticed there were two areas of damage to the vinyl siding. The siding that edged next to the front door was cracked and breaking. When it was replaced after the installation of the windows, it was placed incorrectly. The damage was obvious. My husband then went around the house and checked the areas around the windows that were installed. Off the back deck we noticed a major break in one piece of siding. The damage was obvious and should have been fixed before the project was completed. Had we been informed of the problem and told it would be repaired, we would not be upset by the quality of installation. However, I had to call Mike on the phone and ask him to come by. He said he was busy with a project but would come over soon. Four days later he showed up on a Saturday morning, by himself, and fixed the siding in the front. He said he didn't have enough siding to make the repair in the back but would be back on Monday after he went and purchased more siding. Monday came and went. Tuesday it rained and he called to say he would come by on Wednesday. He showed up with another workman and they repaired the siding but it is still not completely repaired. If you know where to look, you can see that one piece of siding is broken where it installs next to the house. I am very disappointed.

I emailed Mike recently and asked him for a copy of the warranty for the windows. He gave me the name of the company and where I could go to see the warranty online. He said that he would go to the business where he purchased the windows and get me a copy. Two weeks passed, I emailed again asking for the warranty. To date, I have not heard from Mike.

On another note, I said that the crew cleaned up well. We found a few large nails under the windows that had been dropped and not picked up. One nail we found in the rear tire of my Honda which caused a leak that we had to have repaired.

Because of the above difficulties, I have revised my evaluation of Hancock Home Solutions.

She charged us $100 per week and was only at our house about 2 hours a week. It's hard to clean a 2500 square foot house in 2 hours working by yourself! She didn't empty the trash from the bathrooms, etc. She didn't make the beds. She didn't straighten the hand towels hung in the bathrooms. We were expecting someone to come in weekly and leave our house neat and spotless. That just didn't happen.

Angela and her mom both came the first day and did routine housework (vacuum, mop, dust, baths, etc). She started on the heavy stuff (washing baseboards and chairrailing, spot cleaning walls, etc). They did a great job.

Very fast and accurate estimated. Owner and crew started job on schedule, and worked through poor weather for exterior work. Very polite and professional crew. Quality work. Would recommend and certainly use for future projects around the house, large or small.

I needed my house cleaned for company coming over the weekend, and had an injury which prevented me from doing it. Hancock Home Solutions promptly answered my call, came to give me an estimate, and fit me into their schedule. Because of hurricane Irene the windows were a mess, so I asked to include them. The house was spotless, and had a clean, healthy smell that didn't smell like product. If I could afford to use this service all the time, I definitely would.

Extremely professional, and fairly priced. Not only did they do a great job cleaning my gutters, but they answered a bunch of questions I had regarding other projects around my home. As a first-time home owner, I was extremely happy to find a trust-worthy and courteous "handy-man" for all my home repair needs.

We've had work done in the past and it was nothing like him -- he was on time every time every day, did exactly what he said he would do and always cleaned up after himself. He documented what he did with pictures so that I could see exactly what he had done. He had great communication. He had a price-matching guarantee and he honored it!
