Description of Work: Removed popcorn ceilings(LR+DR), installed crown molding & bigger baseboards (LR,DR,foyer). Resurfaced one wall in LR which included walling in upper half of brick fireplace. All new surfaces were finished & painted. Our older home threw them some curves (ie old popping nails and a seam - remnant of a wall that once had run down the center of the LR but had been removed years ago - required structural work thru the attic). This and a few other problems threw their schedules & time estimates off. This was frustrating to all of us but they were determined to leave us happy. We believe their willingness to hang in there and keep coming back, and later, calling back to ensure we were still satisfied was a mark of their professionalism.

Description of Work: Really liked Eric but he was not timely in anything they did. He would tell me to expect a price in a day or 2 and then take a week to get back too me. I will try to use them again but they just seemed too busy to be able to provide timely responses several times. I did not feel like I could depend on them to provide a timely installations for house closing required repairs.

We are sorry that your situation would not allow you to wait for a thorough and detailed price. As we explained we do not give "ballpark" or "guestimations". We give you a price. That takes time. Time to consider all of your requirements and also time to consider all the requirements that you did not know applied to your particular situation. We do our best to think for you which protects your environment and also protects your investment. Best to you, Eric Cook of Home Renu

Hi folks, you must give a general contractor time to thoroughly construct a price. We at Home Renu do not give "estimates" or "ball park figures". We give you a price. We are professional enough and experienced enough to know what it takes to build a project and this takes a little time to put together. There are many companies out there that just throw numbers together and hit the customer at the back end with "surprises" or "upcharges" due to "oh, we couldn't see that". Being patient and thorough eliminates these common errors. We wish you all the best on your project. Best to you, Eric Cook Oof Home Renu

See above summary comments.
Description of Work: We contracted with HOME RENU to power wash the wood trim on our brick house, the rain gutters, the brick walkway, the driveway,a brick retaining wall and the back deck, and to re-stain the back deck. The job, once started took, 5 days. The overall quality of the power washing was good with the exception of our back deck. The thoroughness (quality) of the power washing of the back deck was poor, as was the re-staining quality poor. HOME RENU said that they guarenteed their work, and if we were dissatisfied with any part of it, they would come out and redo what was necessary. However, in between the powere washing of the deck and the re-staining, I had already personally re-washed areas of the deck that were missed or not cleaned well enough. Then after the re-staining had dried for about 36 hours, I personally re-stained the entire deck to my satisfaction, rather than wait for HOME RENU to schedule another date. In conclusion, I would certainly use HOME RENUE again for power washing my house, etc, but I would get someone else to do the deck in the future.

Thank you very much sir, for the opportunity to improve your environment. We would have been perfectly happy to address, fix, redo, re-clean, re-stain anything you were not completely satisfied with as our comprehensive and unlimited guarantee states. BUT we need to be told what you are unhappy with while work is ongoing and before you pay us. Please don't CHANGE work done, PAY us MORE than we charged and expected and then leave us an unhappy review. Everyone makes mistakes but show us where you are unhappy first so we can go "oh yeah, we can fix that". Good reviews are very important to us and we take our work and your satisfaction very seriously. Thank you for your kind words. Best to you, Eric Cook of Home Renu

Description of Work: After checking this company out on Angie's list having great reviews and happy customers we scheduled a time for Eric to come by our home and give us an estimate based on his service area that he has listed for the company and our family was very excited to probably getting our new deck built. After just one day and also the day before Eric is scheduled to come out he calls back and says it is too far can't do it. In addition to this we were using the deck project to determine whether or not to have additional work done by this company. This was a bad experience and I would make sure if you aren't in the Greensboro area to think twice about calling this company for work.

It is always unpleasant to disappoint a family who really wants Home Renu to improve their environment. We try to make everyone happy but there are some great people who fall outside our travel radius and this creates uncomfortable business decisions that leave potential customers out. There are many fantastic, reliable, competent and honest builders local to Winston Salem who are closer and able to accommodate this family. Best to you, Eric Cook of Home Renu

I'm back! I realized that it was likely I could add more reports based on the fact we were so happy with the work that we brought HomeRenu back for more work (look for more reports after this one since we had more work done over the years). The garage extension started as a potential small shed on the back of the garage. As HomeRenu worked with us on the proposal to the Homeowners Association, we found out quickly that they don't allow 'sheds'. We revised it and I decided that we may as well go all the way and make it big enough to house another car and really make it part of the house.. as opposed to just an 'addition'. As usual, HomeRenu was instrumental in giving me ideas for how to implement my vision as we had some parts of the exterior of the house that would need to be moved (electrical service) as well as figuring out a few other things to make this dream happen. HomeRenu set about pulling it all together, was very specific about the exact size since it would run close to the allowance of available building space the city would allow in proximity to our lot line. The foundation was built (it took us a bit of time to find the exact brick the current house used as required by the HOA), the concrete poured and framing stood up. The workers were there when expected and the project was completed in a timely manner. All parts of the build were to spec (which I appreciate since we had to live in house during the build) and the building crews were professional. Once again I was delighted with the process and the price was competitive. We knew HomeRenu would be back for future projects since I had found our new builder! Thanks for the great garage extension and the great service!
Description of Work: The services performed included taking the rear wall off an existing garage, laying a foundation for the garage extension and building the extension on to the back of the existing garage (making it look like it was part of the original build).

I contacted the company due to the excellent reviews near my area. They answered the phone immediately. Very polite and professional. Since I did not view the work I had in mind as terribly extensive and I saw that they only had a Greensboro address listed, I asked to be sure that they would still be interested in the work even though Durham and Raleigh were listed clearly in the service area with no caveats. As it turns out, they only do large jobs in Durham and Raleigh. I completely understand the distance issue relative to the size of the job but I would recommend that they make some distinction, or some sort of qualifier, in the Service Area section of their Angie's List profile (this is the only reason why I am giving the B grade of Good). Given the quality of the work they have done nearby to my own home I would certainly contact them again if I have any major projects/remodeling to do. It is very difficult to find good, reliable companies such as this. My impression is that they are a quality company that I would feel quite comfortable working on my home.

I was pleased with Eric during every step of the job. I received a call from him about an hour after I left a message with him requesting an estimate, and he came over about an hour later. He sent us a detailed estimate via email, which was wonderful. In addition to being a skilled carpenter, Eric is also a good businessman. He's professional and easy to talk to. Once the work started, he came when he said he was going to come and finished in a similar fashion. The job took parts of three days, and on the second day, when we figured he would finish up, I gave him the check. Eric didn't finish that day. Some lesser-quality carpenters might have just decided to take the money and run. Not Eric. He came back and finished some odds and ends, which were mostly cosmetic. Now - I never for a second doubted Eric would come back. But it is worth noting, because you want to hire someone trustworthy. As for the actual work, it's exactly what we wanted. He used good quality lumber. The landing is great. I can even spread some laundry on it on these warm, sunny days. We'll give the wood a few weeks to dry, then we'll probably stain it. We live in one of Greensboro's historic districts, and Eric was familiar with the red tape we had to cut through in order to get the project approved. He was quite patient. I'm going to ask Eric to do some other projects at our house - the biggest of which is replacing our stairs going from the main floor to the basement. I wouldn't hesitate to ask him to do other things, as well.
Description of Work: Eric built some back steps for us after we dismantled our deck. He gave us a few options during the estimate, and we decided to have him build a landing, then three steps down.

Finally! It's good to see you listed on Angie's list.. I have had to send your number/website around when people asked, but now I can send them to Angie's list and they can see all your glowing reviews The services requested were the addition of a screened-in porch where we had an existing deck. We had just finished building our brand new house within less than a year and we realized we wanted a screened-in porch. I figured that this would require completely removing the existing deck, ripping up part of our brand new sodded yard to do it, and spending a ton of time 'in construction' after we had just spent a year getting the house built. I had a few companies in to estimate the work and only 1 (HomeRenu) had the great idea of using the existing deck as the foundation. The rest of the companies wanted me to spend extra money to tear down a brand new deck foundation and rebuild it. HomeRenu went the extra mile in checking with an engineer who told him the existing foundation would work fine. The original builders had built it well enough to support a porch. It was then I knew I had a contractor that cared was interested in getting me the best porch without forcing me to pay for additional items that weren't necessary. I knew this was going to go well. Once we got the initial details out of the way, they went to work on the removal of all existing deck-work except the foundation and the flooring. The blueprints were shown to me with the requests I had put in and he went over all the steps to building this on our new home. HomeRenu came back, day after day, and worked diligently to satisfy not only my concerns, but the concerns of our Home Owners Association. I think this was one of the areas that concerned the most at first. Our house is in the Brier Creek Country Club and they have extremely strict guidelines on what can be built, how it is to be built, right down to the colors and architectural styles. HomeRenu worked with me and the HOA to ensure it met their criteria as well as met mine. As the build continued, the walls went up, the framing was set and he was heading in to do the roof next. That is when Eric's (HomeRenu) colors started to shine. We realized as the structure was coming up that we hadn't thought about the light that we were cutting off by covering one of our kitchen windows. So we asked if it were possible to put in some skylights in the new porch roof to add some more light. Eric took some time to check if he could redesign it and whether we could afford the additional cost to buy the skylights we wanted. The fact that he could stop mid-stream to include a change order was a life saver. They continued on with the roof (adding the new skylights) and we were extremely happy with the light after it was complete. We, of course, were very skeptical that the new porch might not flow perfectly with our new home since it wasn't built by the same crew, but to my surprise, it looked like it was meant to be there. The colors matched the house perfectly, the shingles matched perfectly.. it was a fantastic build. Once the porch was built, the 1 year old deck was power washed and then stained to a nice dark brown to match the insets of the ceiling. The interior look like it was out of a magazine. So, to say the least, I am very satisfied with the work HomeRenu did.. and all within my budget. If I had gone with one of the other builders, not only would I have spent more money, but based on their 'portfolio pictures', I am confident their finished result wouldn't have look as beautiful! Way to go HomeRenu. A++ in my book. PS. Thanks for letting me use the pics from your site to upload for the report.. I couldn't find mine from my old camera!
Description of Work: The services performed were to estimate, blueprint, construct and build a screened-in porch for our brand new house in the Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh. This included tearing down some of our existing decking, building on a new porch, and matching all the stringent requirements set forth by our Home Owners Association. All, by the way, done to perfection!

I almost cant wait until i need more work done.
Description of Work: I was glad to see that Home Renu was on Angie's List. I used this company back in January and want to let others know about the fantastic experience i had with Eric and his guys. I purchased a condo in the historic district of downtown and needed quite a bit of updating and cosmetic repairs to the place. After several consultations with Eric, we came up with a beautiful fireplace wall, kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, paint colors, light fixtures, building of 2 loft areas and even some amazing art work (paintings and neon art), all designed by Eric himself. I was extremely impressed by his 'outside the box" thinking and also the way he listened to my desires and restrictions of the HOA. He could take my partial ideas and expand them beyond my expectations. The work was done in a very professional manner by Eric himself, as well as his crew. The communication was also pleasing. I was so proud of the transformation that Eric's company gave my home that i opened it up to the public at the Christmas Showcase that the city puts on every year. I told everyone who toured my home about Home Renu and even left his business cards for people to take. I have had many of the residence of the building comment "Oh you live in that really cool condo?" "Who did your work for you?" I will definately use Home Renu again! Thanks Eric.

I would not recommend this company to anyone who lives in Clemmons, though it is close to Winston, he (Eric) would not come do the work. I had a lot of work to be done, roofing, siding, deck, wrap around porch, flooring, windows, basement flooring, interior painting, pressure washing, and retaining wall. Lots of money to be made but he passed bc of the distance. So, don't waste your time calling this one if you live in Clemmons, Advance, or anywhere near here.

This is absolutely unconscionable! A person is allowed to leave a company and "F" when we had absolutely nothing to do with them except politely decline their business due to the fact that it was out of our travel range. This is infuriating. An intelligently based business plan includes qualifying customers due to certain criteria and distance is certainly one of them. Reports must be based on BUSINESS DONE with a client. The relationship that was experiened through the process of work completed or not. I suppose we would receive "F's" for turning down work in Tennessee or Michigan or how about New Zealand!!

Eric Cook, a general contractor, owns and quot;Home Renuand quot; and works out of both the Triad (Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem) and Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill...) areas. I asked Mr. Cook if he could fix some problems in my small home in order for me to turn it into a rental property. (I was a single mom and had purchased a 2-bedroom house before I remarried and we moved into my husband's house.) Mr. Cook offered a free estimate that was easy to understand, thorough and reasonably priced. Mr. Cook even helped me work out an agreeable payment plan (win-win) that enabled me to do the work. Mr. Cook began work in February of 2011 and the house was ready to rent mid-March. I was able to get my house rented for more than my original rent rate by April 1st! The response was overwhelming! Several couples who were interested in renting the house said it was one of the most beautiful rentals they had seen. I had 2 renters in line in case the first couple did not qualify! Mr. Cook did a really quality job bringing out period details (the house was built in 1947) in his choices of neutral paints for the walls and moulding, painstakingly repairing and cleaning the mozaic tile floor (tiny, square tiles in an intricate black and white pattern) in the bathroom, and fine-tuning the landscaping to help the boxwoods and pre-established garden stand out along the main walk. You always hope you can find a and quot;service providerand quot; that will treat your project with care and detail. I know I have a hard time choosing someone from a list in the yellow pages, internet searches, etc. that I can trust to do the whole job, a good job, not overcharge me, and someone you can count on. I have complete faith in Mr. Cook and Home Renu after seeing what quality work looks like. Also, knowing that Mr. Cook can be a resource for all things home improvement-related, I won't go searching again!

He can do it all. Eric is always personable and helpful. He is a nice person to have on site and easy to work with. I have referred Eric many times. We were so happy with his work and creativity, that we referred him to friend who hired him to build a master suite in a garage. It is beautiful. Friends and business constituents were pleased with his work as well. I guess I have referred Eric a couple of dozen times and you will not be sorry.
Description of Work: It is hard to supply one date - Eric Cook has completed several jobs for us. My husband is a college coach and used his summers to remodel two studio spaces for myself and business partner in his spare time over the last three years but difficult construction problems surfaced with both. Eric was called in to tackle them. He removed rotten structural floor joists and struts, replaced them and repaired the floor in two days. He also restructured hand-made garage doors that had become warped and rotten. He even did some nice landscaping and concrete repair to that space. Earlier he had put in a skylight. He has removed / replaced doors, windows, walls and added moldings and trim, and laid ceramic tile all in the time allotment promised. Eric is quite capable of doing the whole job - turn-key -from the design work, procuring materials, hiring and handling a crew, construction, finishing/painting to the final clean-up. Day by day, Eric never leaves a mess in your work or living space. I have known Eric for many years and trust his work. He is dependable, competent, trust worthy and stays within budget. He even strived to find ways to save us money by scouting materials. For our friend he found a stored antique claw foot tub, recycled glass block and added neon inside the block. Creative! Eric has created stunning curved features and brings artistry to any project. We have hired him recently to build custom cabinets and install an oversized range hood over a new gas stove. He also diagnosed a serious condensation problem under the building and put in a French drain to avert water away from the structure. Eric has installed a garden window with struts supported outside, helped with a deck and has helped me prep a building for painting a mural by power-washing and repairs. If I ever have a problem with any structure, it's Eric I call. If he can't do the job, he will find someone who can.
