Description of Work: We returned from a short vacation to find that our upstairs air conditioner unit had malfunctioned and filled the water collection pan to the point that it was overflowing. Ironically, our downstairs unit had stopped working as well. I called several HVAC contractors that evening and Comfort Wizards is the only one that has a live person to speak with. In fact, the owner, Harlie, was on call that particular weekend and was extremely helpful. He took the time to listen to me and walked me through several steps with the controller (our controller is like a small computer) to try and troubleshoot for the problem. We scheduled for the next day. He was late getting out, however, it was an extremely hot weekend, and as Harlie explained, they had gotten a lot of calls. When he left that evening, our upstairs unit was running and the problem was determined with downstairs unit. I was informed that a part had gone bad but it may possibly be under warranty. He called the next day, as he said he would, and informed me the part truly was under warranty. He then offered me a couple of options in proceeding. End result, both units were taken care of by Comfort Wizards and we have not had any more problems.

He said the primary problem was the original system being setup incorrectly but suggested that adjusting the amount of air going into various branches of the ductwork in the attic could help. He then gave me the choice of him doing it or showing me how to do it, which I appreciated. On my own, I asked for possible solutions and he gave me a rough cost for doing dual zones. But there was no pressure and I decided to wait on making such a big investment.
Description of Work: They came to check heat because there was such a huge difference in temperature between the first and second floor.

This company was very pleasant and dependable. They came out right away to service the unit, so that I didn't have future problems, or worse yet, a fire. I thought they did a nice job fixing the air conditioner, and it ran fine after that. I would gladly recommend them to other people.
Description of Work: They replaced a high voltage wire that burned up in my air conditioner.

During the first hot weather of the spring, the air conditioning in our house was not cooling sufficiently. The Comfort Wizards technician, sent by First American Home Warranty, told us the system needed Freon, so he added Freon. I asked if this meant there was a Freon leak, and he said no. When the problem happened again, First American Home Warranty sent a different company, who also added Freon. When the problem happened yet again, Comfort Wizards came again. We paid another $45.00 home warranty co-payment for this technician to insist there was nothing wrong and write on the service ticket ''system functioning as designed.'' Hmmmm. It used to work, now it doesn't work, but there's nothing wrong with it. We finally did find someone who purports to know what's wrong with our air conditioning, but not from this company, and not anyone sent by First American. Big surprise, it's leaking Freon.
Description of Work: Our home warranty company, First American, sent Comfort Wizards to troubleshoot a problem with our air conditioning system. The $45.00 we paid was the co-payment required by First American.

Overall the experience was good. Their promptness in regards to returning calls was inconsistent. In general the office staff was not as prompt as I expected in returning my calls related to working with the warranty company. For a few days I was not sure if or when they were going to return to complete the work. But at the end of the day they got the job done well.
Description of Work: They assessed an air conditioner unit in my attic that was not blowing cold air. They determined that the old evaporator coil was rusted out and needed to be replaced. They worked with American Home Shield to get the item covered and replaced the unit in a very workmanlike and professional manner. The tech explained what he was doing and worked to minimize any additional costs to me. The techs covered their shoes when in the house and did their best to clean up after themselves (replacing a rusty coil is a dirty job).

I would like to relate my dissatisfaction with Comfort Wizards out of Benson, NC. On Monday November 14, 2005 they were contacted about servicing my heat pump they advised that they could not get out to service me till Friday and they would be at my house between 08:00 and 09:00am. At ten o clock today I called to ask when they were coming. The lady advised me the service rep was on an emergency call but would get to me today. At 1:00pm I called to ask where the service rep was as she advised he was not coming because when they called I did not answer my phone. They never advised me that they would call prior to coming out. I again asked her if they were going to provide service today and she hung up on me. I called back and asked for the owner, who was out, I asked her to have him call me and have never heard from him. Now I waited four days for service, called when they did not show up on time. This to me is a company with very poor judgment in servicing customers.
Description of Work: They were called to service my heat pump.

They were polite, honest, and on-time. This is a wonderful company. They were recommended to me by a supply and parts company who said "They aren't the cheapest, and they aren't the most expensive, but they are one of the most honest." I once managed a heating and AC company and recognize good workmanship. You feel safe and confident while they are working in, or around your home. They clean up afterwards and leave everything neat and tidy. I would highly recommend them to anyone for new installations or repairs. You can count on their honesty and good work. I received a discount on the coil due to being elderly and disabled, but I don't think that is a regular thing. Overtime pay does factor in nights and weekends. They take charge cards if need be.
Description of Work: This company came out to service my outside heat pump unit. It was low on coolant due to a loose fitting when it was installed by another company that later went out of business. Comfort Wizards serviced, cleaned, and filled it with coolant. It leaked down overnight, so they came back and found that the inside air handler coil was bad. It was 14 years old. I'm familiar with the tester and knew when I heard the noise, there was a bad leak. I asked if I needed to replace the entire unit due to it's age, and he assured me he could fix it without that expense, and he did by replacing the coil only. About 6 months later, the AC wasn't cool enough, so they came back again filled it with coolant at no charge. They were honest and said there was a tiny pin hole leak from which the coolant had escaped over time, and they missed that when they were servicing it the first time. They apologized for missing it earlier and actually came back twice more at no charge to me.
