"I contacted KitchenTuneUp/BathTune-Up to get an estimate to remodel my master bathroom and kitchen. Tom Taube came to my home and listened to what I disliked about the current spaces. We discussed ways to make a bigger shower and gain more storage space in the bathroom. In the kitchen, I had dark cabinets I wanted to update but stay affordable. I also wanted to keep my granite countertops. I disliked my "closet" pantry. I received very comprehensive proposals listing out not just what labor was to be performed but also budgeted items for materials so that I would have a full understanding of how much the remodels would actually cost me. I started these remodels right before the pandemic started in March of 2020. And even though there were a few delays caused by the virus, my projects went very smoothly. I was provided an online schedule of activities so that I would know who was coming and what they were doing (when my dumpster would arrive, drywalling, plumbing work, painting, tiling work, etc.). I liked that there was a final walkthrough before final payment was made so that I could address any issues I saw after the work had been completed. I love my new bathroom and kitchen now (after 20 years of hating them). I find that the bathroom is part of my sanctuary to relax and renew myself. My kitchen is now updated and beautiful with exceptional storage. I no longer have to store appliances and dishes in my bedroom closets. Bathroom: $37,000 (new shower, freestanding tub with tub filler, new vanity with new countertop, fixtures and sinks, new toilet, new cabinet over toilet); Kitchen $30,000 (cabinet redoor with box painting and new cabinets along with a custom island to house a drawer microwave). I was so impressed with the company, its employees and craftmanship, after being offered a position with them in 2021 as a sales rep for bathrooms, I am a happy employee now creating happy customers."

We do anything from electrical to plumbing, pressure washing, fencing (new, current, repairs and replacement,) appliance installation, we do marine and RV work as well. Fence work is at $150-$200 per post. This includes materials and haul out and rails or panels to be installed.
"I keep Alex on proverbial speed-dial. He’s the best. This time he built me a rock solid, and aesthetically perfect split-rail fence. We have two small dogs, so gaps where the fence meets the ground are unacceptable, and Alex delivered exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended."

"This was and still is a horrendous experience though no service has been done. On January 2nd, 2020, I gave Alicia Malatesta and Andrew Woford dba Wofford Homes/Wofford Home Remodeling a check for $7,994.89 as a deposit for a Bathroom remodel in my basement. The check (#1967) was made out to Alicia Malatesta and then deposited into her account on January 3, 2020. The deposit was to cover materials and supplies, get me on their schedule, etc. Unfortunately, there was no work done whatsoever, no materials/purchased at all since. Our first meeting was November 20, 2019 and this nightmare continues still today. I am extremely disappointed in not only this so called also in HomeAdvisor/Angie's List for promoting them as a contractor. They are a prime example of the "bad" contractor perception often associated with this industry, (in which I work as well) This makes me ashamed of the industry. I met with Alicia Malatesta and Andrew Wofford with Wofford Homes on several occasions to discuss and design a new basement bathroom. The communication was open and free flowing with calls, texting and emails, of which of course I still have them all. On January 2nd, 2020 we met and decided to proceed at which time I wrote them a check for materials and supplies for the job, get on schedule, etc. for $7,994 based on what I thought was a normal business transaction. Much of this decision was made with my heart because I wanted to help them grow their business by giving them my business in good faith. Now, let me preface all this by saying that I work on a daily basis with home improvement contractors in all 50 states. My company, a FDIC bank that has approximately 17,000 contractors that we partner with, offering payment options for their residential projects for their customers. I and we have been at numerous trade shows over the years with HomeAdvisor/Angie's List, etc. Like IBS/KBIS, Remodeling and Deck Show, on and on. I've also been a contractor myself. I say all this to show in my 30 plus years of being around the business, I've never had such a terrible experience that I've had to take time to so negatively write about it. There were numerous misrepresentations. I feel conned by Wofford Homes and here are just some of the reasons why. -The meeting on January 2nd, 2020 as I mentioned, I gave them a check for materials and supplies,to get on their schedule, etc. for $7,994 which was promptly cashed by Wofford Homes (Home Improvement). With the start date of the project scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2020. When I reviewed the numbers closely, their were numerous math errors that was blamed on a new software. Of which I determined by using a calculator with simple math. I let them know immediately that with all the obvious overcharging on the invoice/estimate that I wanted to cancel the project with them immediately. I was apologized to and another invoice was submitted that was also obviously wrong again. I was told that they were overcharging me because they didn't think I minded. Wow. Then another invoice estimate that was incorrect again. After far too much time spent on these simple issues. We decided they would make it right and to proceed. and I can show you all the emails, texts about why the job continued to be moved. At this point, I don't know what were truths and what were lies. With many that again pulled on my heart and I gave them many more chances than normal. Of which I feel like a fool. It went on and on and on. I thought I was being punked - for which I guess I was. The communication became more and more non-responsive from Wofford. At last they agreed to come to my house on Sunday, February 16. At that point I had done all I could do and told them at the meeting that we would not be moving forward. In addition, if any materials/supplies were purchased, give me the receipts and materials and I would pay for them. They hadn't purchased anything. They refunded me $1k at the table because "Zelle" wouldn't let them do anymore than that and they didn't have another way with them to refund the money. They hadn't purchased anything. So the thought was they would and should have had all my deposit since nothing had been purchased. And now as you have guessed the communication has been non-responsive and no other part of my refund has happened. As of today I haven't received another penny and I need help in resolving this issue."

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:
Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew
Provide realistic cost estimates
Develop construction timelines
Ensure deadlines are met
Acquire permits as needed
Purchase supplies and materials
Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:
Which types of insurance do you carry?
Can you provide a list of references?
What is the expected timeline for this project?
How will my project be supervised?
Will you hire subcontractors for the job?
What is the best way to communicate changes?
Will you obtain all of the required building permits?
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
